With Christmas as a backdrop, we will discover th Ask the cast and creator of Hanna if the show s protagonist is a hero, and you ll get diverse answers. Series creator David Farr labeled the genetically-modified 15-year-old trained assassin an existential heroine, self-aware and making her own choices about who she is and what she wants in life.Ask star Esmé Creed-Miles if her character is an existential heroine, and you get another perspective. Existentialism, to me, is a common application of meaning or needing meaning. It s not something Hanna is, actually at her core, searching for,  Creed-Miles explained to Rotten Tomatoes in a chat about the new season of the coming-of-age/espionage thriller. How those two views diverge is an example of the generational dynamics that make Hanna resonate so profoundly today.(Photo by Christopher Raphael/Amazon Prime Video)In season 1, Hanna was searching for truth. But her drive to find out where she c

5.47.4 6月喜迎This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Animorphs, Attack the Block 2, and new roles for Oscar Isaac, Will Smith, and Kristen Stewart. This WEEK S TOP STORYWILL SMITH, ANTOINE FUQUA TEAM UP FOR SLAVERY-ERA THRILLER EMANCIPATION(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)In 1863, the still experimental new science of photography gave the world one of its earliest and most shocking demonstrations of the adage that a picture is worth a thousand words when an escaped slave named Peter was photographed to reveal his back scarred by countless whip lashes. And now, Peter s story will be told on the big screen, thanks to Will Smith who turned down the opportunity to star in Quentin Tarantino s slavery-era revenge flick Django Unchained  and director Antoine Fuqua, who normally works in the action-thriller genre with movies like Training Day, Olympus Has Fallen, and The Equalizer. Smith will produce and star in the film, called Emancipation, which will be a biographical thriller about the life of the slave named Peter as depicted in that early photograph. Smith and Fuqua expect to start production of Emanciation in early 2021, after Fuqua finishes filming the drama Infinite and after Will Smith wraps filming of King Richard, about the life of Richard Williams, the father of future tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams. The announcement of Emancipation is timely this week as the Juneteenth holiday has its origins in the commemoration of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas on June 19th, 1865.Other Top Headlines1. ACADEMY AWARDS DELAYED TO APRIL OF 2021(Photo by Getty Images)As this year s COVID-19 pandemic has continued to delay the releases of dozens of films, there has been a steady number of articles wondering online how this year s shortened release calendar will impact the Academy Awards. The issue at hand was not only that there will be fewer films released in 2020, but also that the later months will be crowded with films originally scheduled for earlier in the year (i.e. when will the awards season movies be released?). This week, the mystery was (at least partially) addressed, as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has indeed delayed the 93rd Academy Awards until April 25, 2021 (pushed back two months from Febraury 28, 2021). As part of this delay, the window for eligibility will also be extended all the way to February 28, 2021. This delay potentially will have a particularly strong impact on the Sundance Film Festival, which is annually held in January after the end of awards season, as this new delay means Sundance will now be held a month before the deadline instead of after. (The Berlin and Cannes Film Festivals have already announced that the change will not impact their scheduling.) In (very) related news, the BAFTAs have also delayed their next ceremony until April 11, 2021, just two weeks before the new Academy Awards date.2. EDGAR WRIGHT LINKING UP WITH X-MEN: FIRST CLASS WRITER FOR THE CHAIN(Photo by Wilson Webb/©TriStar)For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, one of the still mysterious What If ? scenarios (not to be confused with the upcoming animated Disney+ series What If ?) involves the version of the first Ant-Man movie that would have been directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead), who eventually dropped out of the production. Well, this week s news isn t exactly that, but we did get confirmation of a movie called The Chain that will effectively align Wright with a screenwriter, Jane Goldman, who actually has worked on some Marvel movies (X-Men: First Class, X-Men: Days of Future Past), as well as the non-Marvel comic book adaptation Kingsman: The Golden Circle. Goldman and Wright will deliver the adaptation of Adrian McKinty s 2019 novel The Chain for Universal Pictures, who picked up the project after it had previously been eyed by Paramount Pictures last summer. The Chain tells the story of a mother of a kidnapped 11-year-old daughter who discovers that the only way to get her own child back is to kidnap somebody s else child (hence, The Chain). Wright s next film before The Chain will be Last Night in Soho, starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Jojo Rabbit star Thomasin McKenzie, which is now scheduled for April 23, 2021 after its 2020 release was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic.3. JOHN BOYEGA MAY GET HIS ATTACK THE BLOCK SEQUEL AFTER ALL (Photo by Liam Daniel/©Screen Gems courtesy Everett Collection)During a recent protest event, Star Wars star John Boyega wondered aloud, I don t know if I m going to have a career after this, but several directors and studios were quick to respond online, saying that they would indeed be eager to work with Boyega on future projects. One of those filmmakers appears to have been Joe Cornish (The Kid Who Would Be King), who not only like Wright above worked on Marvel s Ant-Man, but also gave John Boyega one of his earliest leading roles in the 2011 science fiction film Attack the Block (Certified Fresh at 90%). Speaking recently on the Script Apart podcast, Cornish revealed that he has met with Boyega to discuss ideas for an Attack the Block sequel, although he didn t reveal what it might be about (except that the setting would have to acknowledge the 10+ years since the events of the first movie). Cornish is currently also developing a TV movie adaptation of the cyberpunk novel Snow Crash for HBO Max, and Boyega s upcoming films include Naked Singularity and Rebel Ridge.4. THIS WEEK IN OSCAR ISAAC NEWS: ARMAGEDDON TIME, LONDON, THE CARD COUNTER (Photo by Melinda Sue Gordon/Netflix)Speaking of John Boyega, one of his Star Wars co-stars has, like Boyega, had to dedicate much of the last several years to the Star Wars franchise, but that s all over now, so he s back to beefing up his other credits. That co-star is Oscar Isaac, and in addition to co-starring in Denis Villeneuve s highly anticipated upcoming adaptation of Dune (12/28/2020) (which will soon resume filming for reshoots), Isaac will also continue filming his lead role in Paul Schrader s The Card Counter in Mississippi in early July. On top of that, Isaac also joined two other new projects this week, one of which is Armegeddon Time for director James Gray (Ad Astra, Certified Fresh at 84%), an ensemble drama set at a prestigious private school in the 1980s in which his co-stars will be Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Donald Sutherland, and Cate Blanchett. Isaac s other new project is a thriller called London based on a short story by Norwegian author Jo Jo Nesbø and directed by Ben Stiller, which is quite a departure for him. The premise London is being kept under wraps, but it s adapted by Eric Roth, whose previous films include Forrest Gump, Ali, Munich, the 2018 version of A Star is Born, and soon, the aforementioned remake of Dune.5. KRISTEN STEWART TO STAR AS PRINCESS DIANA SPENCER (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)In Season 3 of Netflix s The Crown, the cast changed to introduce Olivia Colman as the older Queen Elizabeth and Ben Daniels (Emma.) as a young Prince Charles. Although the new additions also included Emerald Fennell as Camilla Shand, the future Duchess of Cornwall, fans of the show will have to wait until Season 4 to see Emma Corrin join the series as Princess Diana (though you can see some set photos of her in costume here). The Crown will soon have competition, though, in the form of a new feature film about the life of Princess Diana, as Kristen Stewart is now attached to star in the film called Spencer (after Princess Di s maiden family name). Spencer will be directed by Pablo Larrain, who is probably best known for directing a biographical film about another influential female political figure, Jackie (Certified Fresh at 87%), which starred Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy in the period immediately after JFK s assassination. Similarly, Spencer will not be a biopic about Princess Diana s entire life, but will instead focus on three of the final days of her troubled marriage to Prince Charles. This is not the first time Kristen Stewart has starred in a biopic, as she also played the young Joan Jett in 2010 s The Runaways (Fresh at 70%) and actress-turned-activist Jean Seberg in last year s Seberg (Rotten at 34%).6. TENNIS STAR ARTHUR ASHE BIOPIC FROM DA 5 BLOODS SCREENWRITER (Photo by Harry Dempster/Getty Images)Decades before Venus and Serena Williams ever picked up a tennis racket, Arthur Ashe made sports history as the first African American man to win a singles title at Wimbledon, the U.S. Open, and the Australian Open, among other accomplishments. Following a heart bypass surgery in the 1980s, Ashe was diagnosed with AIDS, which led to his founding two different health organizations before his death in 1993. A biopic about the life of Arthur Ashe is now in development, to be produced by Hyde Park Entertainment (Blue Valentine, Machete) and Warner Music Group. The film will be adapted by screenwriter Kevin Willmott, who won a Best Adapted Screenplay Academy Award for co-writing 2018 s BlackKklansman (Certified Fresh at 96%), and who also wrote 2015 s Chi-Raq (Certified Fresh at 82%) and the recent Netflix film Da 5 Bloods (Certified Fresh at 92%), all of which were directed by Spike Lee. Arthur Ashe is survived by his wife, photographer Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, and their daughter Camera, named after her mother s profession. Warner Music Group is expected to help secure music for the Arthur Ashe biopic from the extraordinary works of the era by such artists as Aretha Franklin, Prince, Curtis Mayfield, and others. 7. TESSA THOMPSON TO STAR IN TRIPPY THRILLER BALESTRA(Photo by Marvel Studios)In the sport of fencing, a balestra is a leap forward usually followed by an aggressive lunge attack. Balestra also happens to be a pretty cool-sounding title for a movie, specifically one starring Tessa Thompson, whose profile has risen in recent years thanks to roles in Marvel s Thor: Ragnarok, HBO s Westworld, and Boots Riley s Sorry to Bother You, among other things. Thompson is now executive producing and will star in a psychological thriller called Balestra, playing a disgraced competitive fencer hoping for an Olympic comeback who receives a new device designed to help her train while she s lucid dreaming, until she gets caught in her own web of subconscious desires and unfulfilling reality. Balestra will be an independent production directed by Nicole Dorsey (Black Conflux) and will co-star Marwan Kenzari, A.K.A. Sexy Jafar from Disney s recent live-action remake of Aladdin.8. SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE STARS COLIN JOST AND PETE DAVIDSON (Photo by NBC/Getty Images)Staten Island may be the smallest borough of New York City (by population), but it s also currently the hometown of two current Saturday Night Live cast members, namely Colin Jost and Pete Davidson. Davidson also recently starred in Judd Apatow s The King of Staten Island (Fresh at 70%), which had its streaming debut last Friday (6/12/2020). Soon, though, Jost and Davidson will have something else in common, as they are now both signed to star in the Universal Pictures comedy Worst Man. As the title suggests, Worst Man will be a wedding-themed comedy about the family dramatics that ensue just weeks before the wedding, but it s currently unclear what roles Jost and Davidson will play presumably one of them will be the groom, and the other will be the best (worst?) man, and you get no points for guessing which of them is most likely to play which role. Colin Jost s next movie will be the live-action/CGI hybrid comedy Tom and Jerry (3/5/2021), and Pete Davidson will have a supporting role in next year s soft reboot of The Suicide Squad (8/6/2021).9. ELIJAH WOOD TO STAR IN TED BUNDY DRAMA NO MAN OF GOD(Photo by Daniel C. McFadden/©IFC Midnight courtesy Everett Collection)In 2012, Lord of the Rings franchise star Elijah Wood played against type by starring as a serial killer in the Maniac remake (Rotten at 53%). For his next film, Wood is stepping around to the other side of the interrogation table, quite literally, as he will star as serial killer Ted Bundy s FBI analyst Bill Hagmaier in the crime thriller No Man of God, based on the real life transcripts of their conversations from 1984 to 1989. (The real life Bill Hagmaier was also featured in episode 4 of Netflix s 2019 mini-series Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes). Indie filmmaker Amber Sealey (How to Cheat, No Light and No Land Anywhere) will direct No Man of God from a screenplay by screenwriter C. Robert Cargill (co-writer of Sinister, Sinister 2, and Doctor Strange).10. 1990s NOSTALGIA CONTINUES WITH ANIMORPHS (Photo by Nickelodeon courtesy Everett Collection)Starting in June of 1996, Scholastic started publishing a series of over fifty children s science fiction novels known as the Animorphs series. Hollywood s penchant for capitalizing on the nostalgia of decades 20 to 30 years in the past means the 1990s are currently super en vogue. That s pretty much all you need to know not to be surprised by this week s news that development has started on an Animorphs movie. As in the books, Animorphs will tell the story of a group of five teenagers with the ability to transform into various animals who then have to use their super powers to prevent a secret alien invasion of Earth. Scholastic Publishing has, to date, published over 35 million copies of Animorphs books, and there was also a Canadian Animorphs TV series in the late 1990s. The Animorphs movie is being developed by producer Erik Feig, whose credits include the Step Up dance franchise, the Wrong Turn horror franchise, and the spy movies Mr. and Mrs. Smith and The Spy Who Dumped Me.
Similarly, it is unclear what to expect from Black Hole itself. Their comic book counterpart specialized in using the Speed Force to create weapons, but it remains to be seen if this will be the case on television. That said, we know they can make weapons which accentuate meta-abilities, as illustrated by the new Dr. Light, Kimiyo Hoshi (Emmie Nagata) and her light-focusing disintegrator gun.The character is another pull from DC Comics lore; in fact, she had a splashy debut in the original Crisis on Infinite Earths maxiseries. But Wallace assured us her absence from the television Crisis was not the primary reason she debuted in this week s episode.“It was always separate for us and we said let us use Dr. Light in our back half because she s important to us,” he explained. “We ll learn about her more and more as the season goes on.”As long-time DC readers will note, a Dr. Light who takes pride in following orders is quite a change, but, Wallace said, we ll learn what her relationship is with Black Hole and obviously with Carver and what it means to follow Carver s orders and things like that. He also pointed out that Earth-Prime offers latitude in changing some personality traits of the comic book characters they adopt into the show.(Photo by Dean Buscher/The CW)And since Hoshi is now the official Dr. Light of Earth-Prime, what does that mean for the previous Dr. Light, Linda Park (Malese Jow, pictured), who arrived from Earth-2 in The Flash’s second season to aid Zoom?“Linda Park on Earth-Prime is still around,” Wallace said. “But in this new Earth-Prime, Post-Crisis world — the way history was written — Linda Park never became Dr. Light. Hoshi did.”For fans of the character, and her relationship with Wally West in the Flash comics of the 1990s and early 2000s, the change in her history may mean a version of that story is to come. Or, at least, the option exists.“It s one of the things that we ve discussed and it s one of the things that I thought was important; it s like ‘what if we want to go there someday?’” Wallace explained. “We need to be able to do this. Now we can.”As “Crisis on Infinite Earths” producer Marc Guggenheim previously told us, the crossover and its world-changing events offered the producers the opportunity to make tweaks and fixes — like Linda’s new Earth-Prime life — to the various series. For Wallace, the “fixes” for The Flash include things like this, a repaired exterior for S.T.A.R. Labs, and one he found the most vital to the show Post-Crisis.“I think the coolest thing is now all of the heroes and their families and friends from all the different shows can communicate with each other on a more casual basis,” Guggenheim said. “It used to be that Flash could only talk to Superman or Supergirl if it was the end of the world or an apocalypse or a Crisis. Now, there s no reason why Iris and Kara can t get coffee sometime.”(Photo by Katie Yu/The CW)That sense of the characters dropping by in a more casual manner is on display in “Marathon” with John Diggle (David Ramsey, pictured) stopping by Central City to deliver Barry’s inheritance from the late Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the journey both go on as a consequence.“I think as all the shows move forward over these next one, two, three seasons that proceed — hopefully we have those many seasons, Wallace said, you ll be able to see another side of the characters, and we ll be able to get deeper into character relationships because they ll be able to meet up under non-Crisis circumstances. And that s really where friendships are really born: just hanging out, having a cup of coffee, playing ping pong, or whatever.”That sense of camaraderie definitely set Post-Crisis comics apart in the ’90s, particularly in the pages of The Flash, where Wally West benefited from the friendship and experience of Golden Age Flash Jay Garrick. And it seems some form of this bond will exist between the television Jay (John Wesley Shipp) and Barry.“Without question, Jay Garrick is definitely alive and well with his wife Joan,” Wallace said. “I told John Wesley Shipp that because he s like, ‘Whoa, my character s dead, dude. You killed me in Crisis.’ I said, ‘No worries.’ As soon as we can get to it, we will see those two characters again played by John and Michelle Harrison.”Granted, the Black Hole situation may keep the Garricks from organizing a barbecue anytime soon.(Photo by Katie Yu/The CW)As seen in “Marathon,” other Post-Crisis changes or anomalies are already being cataloged by Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes). His glass marker boards offer eagle-eyed viewers the geographic positions for Supergirl’s National City and Black Lightning’s Freeland, which previously only existed on other Earths. The boards also indicate some of the changes to previous events and crossovers, like “Crisis on Earth-X” involving time-traveling Nazis clones instead of an invading army from a world where World War II never ended. Both the map and the timeline reflect charts and graphs the writers came up with while trying to understand the changes they wanted to make to Earth-Prime, but Wallace said they no longer exist in a physical space as much of this information has been “internalized” by the writers — although the actual documents remain on file with the staff’s writing assistant.Sadly, Cisco’s journey to put all of the changes into his “Who’s Who” binder means the character will be absent for the next little while.“It is a pause for the character [because Carlos is] not available,” Wallace explained. “But don t worry — he is integral to the upcoming graphic novel No. 2 in ways that are really going to test him. He s on a really great journey.”The producer also suggested he will be a “different man”  when he returns.“His world has kind of been rocked,” he teased. “And it ll be really interesting to see over the course of the season how he deals with the self-revelations. Not the revelations about Earth-Prime or having hush puppies with Black Lightning or whatever he does [in the world], but what he experienced emotionally. When he comes back, it s all about how it changes him.”(Photo by Katie Yu/The CW)In the meantime, Cisco has left Nash (Tom Cavanagh) to watch out for Team Flash. But as teased at the end of “Marathon,” the last remaining version of Harrison Wells will have a story of his own to consider; in fact, you may be wondering if Nash is the only Harrison Wells to have ever existed on Earth-Prime. Wallace said his status in the world is a story point and you re going to get the answer to that literally in Episode 611.”The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on The CW. Like this? Austen s mastery of irony combined with her scintillating insight and ability to mine for humor in relationships has made her novels resonate well past her lifetime and into the cinematic medium that would rise 100 years after her death. The first significant (and surviving) adaptation was 1940 s Pride and Prejudice, starring Greer Garson and Laurence Olivier, with the screenplay co-written by Aldous Huxley. Pride has been adapted the most out of Austen s books, including as the Bollywood-style Bride Prejudice, and most recently in 2005 with Keira Knightley. Sense Sensibility, Mansfield Park, and Lady Susan – a.k.a. Love Friendship – have had one theatrical movie adaptation each. Meanwhile, Emma has had two direct adaptations: The 1996 version starring Gwyneth Paltrow, and this week s Emma., starring Anya Taylor-Joy.Before we see where Emma. (note the period) lands on our Tomatometer on Monday, we ve ranked all Jane Austen movies by their score. You won t find the famous BBC miniseries of Pride and Prejudice in this list – we re sticking strictly to theatrically releases. But we are opening it up to modernizations and looser adaptations, including Clueless (based on Emma), Material Girls and From Prada to Nada (both borne out of Sense and Sensibility), and Bridget Jones s Diary (based on Pride and Prejudice). And because Austen fandom has evolved into a lifestyle and state of mind, we re including movies like Austenland, The Jane Austen Book Club, and Becoming Jane. So, get ready to dive into a world of sharp tongues and full hearts with our guide to every Jane Austen movie, ranked by Tomatometer.
CanadaSteaming on ShudderWhat is it? A zombie movie with a twist, Blood Quantum centers on an outbreak in which the non-Indigenous locals are turning into the undead and the Indigenous population finds itself immune.Mi kmaq director-writer Jeff Barnaby’s second feature is an exploration of indigeneity and the ongoing effects of colonization. The film is set in 1981, which is a reference to the Alanis Obomsawin documentary Incident at Restigouche, about the raids on Listuguj Mi gmaq First Nation by Quebec police over salmon fishing rights, an act Barnaby witnessed as a 4-year-old. This film is layered with history like this throughout – including some eerie use of undead fish! – and also features zombie film references and animated interludes.

ror体育实用APP下载 Spoiler warning: The following contains giant spoilers for Avengers: Endgame. So if you don t wanna know what happens, stop right here. Sony Pictures released a new Spider-Man: Far From Home trailer on Monday, coinciding with the end of Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo’s online spoiler ban. And it is no surprise as the trailer is a huge spoiler for anyone who has not seen the recent Avengers movie. Although, considering that film continues to destroy box office records, we would be very surprised to discover someone who hasn’t seen it.As the trailer is a spoiler, it is filled with useful information for those tracking the progress of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a few lingering plot points from Endgame, and info on the upcoming Phase 4 of the MCU. So let’s dive in and examine some of the things we learned from the trailer. It Is Set After Endgame(Photo by @ Sony Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)This one might sound obvious, but considering the span of time between Spider-Man: Homecoming and Avengers: Infinity War, there was a suspicion the movie might take place prior to the Snap. Many noted Nick Fury s (Samuel L. Jackson) nice to meet you, Spider-Man in the previous trailer, despite both being at Tony Stark s (Robert Downey Jr.) funeral. Also, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige recently reframed the film as the last Phase 3 story instead of the first taste of Phase 4. Add Endgame’s five-year time-jump and you get a recipe for a potential Far From Home set sometime in 2017 or 2018.But thanks to its opening moments declaring the passing of Tony Stark and the heart-to-heart between Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau), it is clear the film is indeed set after Endgame. That means the film, even if it is the last Phase 3 chapter, will offer audiences a glimpse into the post-Endgame world. In the previous trailer, we saw notable parts of New York being rebuilt, which suggests the Snap survivors left many of the parts of the world to ruin after half the world’s population disappeared. Beyond those background details, though, the Snap and the five-year gap will have a very personal effect on Peter as he adjusts to the world. Most Of Peter’s Friends Disappeared With Him(Photo by @ Sony Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)MJ (Zendaya), Ned (Jacob Batalon), Betty (Angourie Rice), and even nominal high school bully Flash Thompson (Tony Revolori) are all the same age as Peter – which means they all disappeared in the Snap. That might seem minor, but every single one of them has lost five years. It remains to be seen how many of them returned to a stunned family – in fact, we’re still not clear if Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) lived through the five year gap – or the effect that may have on them going forward. The summer trip to Europe may be as much a chance for them to re-acclimatize to the new world as it is a school activity. But as Laura Harrier and Michael Keaton are currently on the cast list, we expect Liz and her father Adrian experienced the full five years of Endgame. You have to wonder how that changed them We re in the Multiverse Now, and Mysterio Is From A Tangent Reality … Well, Maybe(Photo by @ Sony Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)It seems the Ancient One’s (Tilda Swinton) fears were founded after all as Fury tells Peter the Snap tore a hole in “our dimension.” Peter is also introduced to Quentin Beck (Jake Gyllenhaal), a man who claims to be from an alternate Earth. We’re assuming he is from one of the tangent realities the Ancient One warned Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) about in Endgame. We’re also assuming that “hole” is how Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) managed to get back from the tangent reality he created to have a life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).Of course, it is always possible Beck is lying. He is Mysterio after all, a guy who faked an alien invasion back in the comics just to rob a bank. If he’s anything like his comic-book counterpart, he could using the Snap to win Fury’s trust. Alternatively, he could be a dimension-hopping bad guy with an interest in ending Spider-Man across the multiverse. Or should we say “Spider-Verse?” There is also the possibility that he is telling the truth and the MCU will give us a 100% noble Mysterio. But that seems quite unlikely. Peter almost always gets betrayed by the people he lets into his confidence, and we expect this to be no different.Captain Marvel is Carol Danvers’ Superhero Name(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)OK, this is a small one, but considering no one in Captain Marvel or Endgame refers to Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) by her superhero codename, we’re clocking this as the first time anyone officially refers to her as Captain Marvel. We also expect the scene in which Peter asks about Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain Marvel will be a little longer and hint at what Bruce, Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), and some of the other heroes are doing during this latest crisis.Nick Fury Is In Charge(Photo by @ Sony Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)Also, isn’t interesting to see Nick Fury in charge of an organization again? The manpower and equipment we see in the trailer suggest S.H.I.E.L.D., but S.H.I.E.L.D. patches appear to be absent on the people manning the various work stations surrounding Fury, Peter, and Mysterio in the trailer. Either they have been removed digitally to maintain the surprise or Fury has a new organization entirely. Is it time for S.W.O.R.D. to make its MCU debut? In the comics, their mandate is to keep Earth safe from alien incursions. Would their MCU jurisdiction include alternate Earths? At the same time, the whole notion of tangent realities makes it really easy for Fury to resume his post at S.H.I.E.L.D. while the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. television series gets its own world to play with. It still makes them connected, just in a less immediate way.Peter Has A Great Iron Man-level Responsibility, And Could Be Phase 4 s Lead Hero(Photo by @ Sony Pictures, @ Marvel Studios)Considering Phases 1-3 were led by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), the Far From Home trailer seems to position Peter as the key hero going into Phase 4. Or, at least, that seems to be Peter’s perception. That talk with Happy early on literally puts the weight of Iron Man on him. And the subsequent scene with the NYPD officers raises the question with Spider-Man s reality: is Peter the next Iron Man?Since he still has the Iron Spider suit, signs should be pointing to yes. But it also seems likely that the film will confront this key question: Is Peter a kid, playing at being the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, or is he a man ready to lead the superheroes? It is entirely possible he will walk away from the film knowing he is not the next Iron Man, putting someone else in the hot seat. Then again, the film could see this whole Spider-Man “Home” story cycle in a new light as he accepts the mantle, and the great responsibility which comes with it.Should Phase 4 see Peter s friendly neighborhood grow to the size of a galactic quadrant – or a multidimensional band of realities – Far From Home may set him on this path. At the same time, it may also illustrate for him that he still has a lot to learn before he can lead the Avengers – or whatever they re calling themselves now – in the MCU s bold future.Spider-Man: Far From Home is in theaters July 2, 2019Like this?

With the success of series like The Terror, The Haunting of Hill House, and American Horror Story, television has never been a better medium for creators interested in telling spooky stories on a regular basis. The latest entry into the genre is Creepshow, a TV anthology version of the Stephen King/George A. Romero horror film that debuts today on genre-focused streaming service Shudder.Spearheaded by The Walking Dead boss Greg Nicotero, the series pays tribute to its roots by telling frightening stories of many ilks (gory, suspenseful, silly, unsettling). The first episode features the installments “Gray Matter,” based on the King story of the same name about an alcoholic whose booze of choice might affect him in more nefarious ways, and “The House of the Head,” about a girl who discovers a killer severed head in her dollhouse.Earlier this year, Rotten Tomatoes visited the series’ Atlanta set, where we walked through blood-soaked sets, saw creatures being made, and saw a werewolf decapitate a Nazi. Here are six things we learned about the show while we were there.1. It’s in good hands with superfan Greg Nicotero(Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)The Walking Dead boss is a lifelong horror fan who got his start working on special effects makeup with Romero and Creepshow’s effects mastermind Tom Savini on Romero s Day of the Dead. With this Creepshow reboot, “I want to embrace the spirit of the original movie,” Nicotero said from his windowless office in an Atlanta production facility. “I’m not rebooting anything. It’s not like, ‘Oh we’re going to upgrade it and retell it.’ It’s really like you’re picking up another issue of Creepshow, and these are the stories.”The stories include works from King, one from King’s son, Joe Hill, plus more adaptations of existing stories and a few original tales. Nicotero was so dedicated to the project that he began working on it during The Walking Dead, taking just a week off before flying back to Atlanta to begin pre-production on Creepshow.2. The series was filmed in an uber-short time frame(Photo by Shudder)Each of the six episodes contains two stories, and each story has just three and a half days to film.“You can’t stop filming for 12 hours. You can’t eat, you can’t go to the bathroom, and you’ve just got to keep filming and go crazy,” Nicotero said in a short break while filming the final two installments. On one stage, special effects experts prepared a dummy for its impending decapitation — the fake blood spurting everywhere meant they had just one take (or risk spending hours cleaning up the blood only to set it all up again. On the other, the production team used a forklift to place a massive monster they created on the set of the story they’d begin filming the next day.Originally, Nicotero wanted to film even more stories, but with a packed production schedule spanning from the beginning of January through the end of March, it wasn’t enough time to fully realize that many tales.“I was pretty greedy at first. I was like, ‘We should do three stories per episode, and each story should be like 17 minutes,’ and then we got into production and I was like, ‘What the f was I thinking? We should do two, ” he admitted.3. For practical effects, Nicotero brought in the experts.(Photo by Shudder)Special effects guru Savini worked closely with Romero on many of his films, including the original Creepshow. So it was only natural Nicotero would hire him to helm a story of his own (Joe Hill’s “By the Silver Water of Lake Champlain”).“It’s 98 percent practical effects — all the creature work, all the makeup, the werewolves, the puppets,” Nicotero said.Evidence of that mandate is strewn about the production spaces that once held Gabrielle Union’s BET drama Being Mary Jane — cardboard boxes loaded with fake animal carcasses are piled next to busts of various creatures. (And sets from s

ror体育实用APP下载 Today s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news, covering titles like Salem s Lot and Tom and Jerry, and new roles for Ben Affleck, Peter Dinklage, and Jennifer Lopez. This WEEK S TOP STORYLEONARDO DICAPRIO JOINS GUILLERMO DEL TORO S NIGHTMARE ALLEY REMAKE(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection, Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Getty Images)The dark 1947 carnival drama Nightmare Alley is not as famous as other examples of film noir, but it remains a dark, creepy film worth seeking out. The film s profile is about to rise much higher in the next year or two, though, because Guillermo del Toro has decided a Nightmare Alley remake will be his next film as director, after the Academy Award-winner The Shape of Water. Leonardo DiCaprio will headline Nightmare Alley in the lead, a carnival showman who rises to fame by pretending to talk to the dead as a medium, taking over the role played by Tyrone Power in the original. The 1947 movie was an adaptation of a 1946 novel by William Lindsay Gresham that did take some liberties with the story (especially the ending), so it s possible that GDT s adaptation will be closer to the source material. Nightmare Alley will start filming in late 2019, and will probably be released sometime in 2020. Speaking of remakes, Guillermo del Toro also talked this week about his former plans for remakes of classic monster movies like Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein, saying, I don t think it s going to happen. Fresh Developments1. JAMES BOND 25 EVENT CONFIRMS RAMI MALEK, AND MORE (Photo by Well Go USA Entertainment)MGM and Eon Productions, the companies behind the James Bond franchise, staged a big event yesterday at Ian Fleming s Goldeneye estate in Jamaica to promote James Bond 25. Some speculated that the event might reveal the title (it didn t), but there were several casting revelations. As had been previously reported, Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) was confirmed to be the film s villain. The biggest new news was that Jeffrey Wright, who skipped Skyfall and Spectre, will be returning as CIA agent Felix Leiter, joining Daniel Craig s Bond on an international adventure to rescue a kidnapped scientist. Whatever it s called, the 25th official James Bond film will be directed by Cary Joji Fukunaga (Beasts of No Nation, HBO s True Detective) when it s released on April 8, 2020.2. STEPHEN KING S SALEM S LOT VAMPIRES FINALLY STALKING THE BIG SCREEN (Photo by Warner Bros. courtesy Everett Collection)This year marks seven years since the release of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2, which was, for the most part, the last successful Hollywood movie featuring traditional vampires (2014 s Dracula Untold, not so much). Sony and Marvel are now filming Morbius (starring Jared Leto) for release next summer (7/31/2020), so that s at least a vampire movie coming out soon. A new project that will be further out is an adaptation of Stephen King s Salem s Lot, which was previously adapted twice as a TV mini-series in 1979 and 2004. Producer James Wan and screenwriter Gary Dauberman previously collaborated on The Conjuring spinoffs Annabelle, Annabelle: Creation, The Nun, and the upcoming Annabelle Comes Home, and are now reuniting for Salem s Lot. Stephen King s original 1975 novel is about an author who returns to his hometown to discover that a spooky mansion is now home to a European vampire and his brood. (Note: The proper title of Salem s Lot starts with an apostrophe, because it s an abbreviation of Jerusalem s Lot, which is the town.)3. PETER DINKLAGE LEAVING WESTEROS FOR THE THICKET (Photo by HBO)HBO s Game of Thrones has an extended cast of dozens of actors, so with the show ending, we re in the early stages of an expected deluge of post-Game of Thrones casting announcements. Many of them are European and mostly work outside Hollywood, but one of the stars who very much is a Hollywood star is Peter Dinklage (for example, Avengers: Infinity War). Dinklage s next film will even be produced by Hollywood Gang, which is the company behind the dark and twisted thriller The Thicket. In it, he will star as a fierce bounty hunter named Reginald Shorty Jones, who is hired by a boy in Texas after his sister is kidnapped by a serial killer known as Cut Throat Bill.4. WHO S BEN AFFLECK GONNA CALL? GHOST ARMY (Photo by Universal Pictures)Before he signed on to play Batman in 2013, Ben Affleck s career as director was moving pretty quickly, with three films in five years (Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo), all Certified Fresh. Affleck had to delay filming Live by Night for a while (it eventually came out in 2016), and now it s been another three years since that film. This week, we finally heard what film he will direct next, for what will effectively be only his second film over the last seven years. Affleck will direct and star in Universal Pictures Ghost Army, which will be adapted from the book The Ghost Army of World War II: How One Top-Secret Unit Deceived the Enemy with Inflatable Tanks, Sound Effects, and Other Audacious Fakery. (The great thing about non-fiction books is how they can relate the whole premise in a subtitle.) One can draw a pretty obvious correlation between Ghost Army and Affleck s Argo, which was also a fact-based drama about how moviemaking techniques were used to carry out a mission (in that case, the liberation of diplomats during the Iran Hostage Crisis). The Ghost Army was also adapted as a PBS documentary in 2013.5. ANGELA BASSETT TO DRINK YOUR GUNPOWDER MILKSHAKE (Photo by Phil Bray/Fox Searchlight Pictures)Although they re mostly supporting roles, Angela Bassett has been racking up an impressive series of high profile films recently, including Black Panther (as his mom), Bumblebee (as the voice of the villain Shatter), and Mission: Impossible Fallout (as the CIA director). This week, Bassett signed on as one of the leads in an action thriller called Gunpowder Milkshake, as one of the unassuming leaders of a massive armory.  She joins two already-signed actresses who are also coming off very popular franchises: Lena Headey stars in HBO s Game of Thrones as Queen Cersei Lannister, and Karen Gillan plays Nebula in Avengers: Endgame (and also co-starred in 2017 s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle).6. COLIN FARRELL, CYCLOPS, AND BRAN STARK ARE VOYAGERS (Photo by Jaap Buitendijk/Warner Bros.)After an early career that included The Illusionist (73% Certified Fresh) and Limitless (69% Fresh), director Neil Burger ( ) is currently coming off two films below 43% Rotten (Divergent and The Upside). For his next film, Neil Burger has cast the male lead ( ) from The Lobster, Colin Farrell, along with a young cast that includes Tye Sheridan, Lily-Rose Depp, and Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Bran Stark from Game of Thrones). The movie will be a science fiction thriller called Voyagers and show what happens when a spaceship with 30 young people sent to populate a new planet experiences a surprise disaster.Rotten Ideas3. BRITNEY SPEARS GETTING MUSICAL, ONCE UPON A ONE MORE TIME (Photo by Jason LaVeris/Getty Images)This summer, we ll finally get the ninth feature film directed by Quentin Tarantino, the 1960s period piece, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but it won t be the only movie in the next few years (or so) that borrows that naming convention, because Sony Pictures has won the screen rights to an upcoming Broadway musical called Once Upon a One More Time. As you might be able to guess, it will be a fairy tale musical using classic songs by Britney Spears (was Spears career long ago enough now to be considered classic ? #thiswriterisold). The golden oldies that will be featured in the musical will include Circus, Lucky, Toxic, and Oops I Did It Again. There is not yet a writer or director for this movie, or an idea of who might star.2. JENNIFER LOPEZ SAYS MARRY ME TO OWEN WILSON(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough, Priscilla Grant/Getty Images)The romantic comedy has almost vanished from the big screen (except for rare films like Isn t It Romantic?), but the genre is starting to enjoy a comeback, thanks in large part to streaming sites like Netflix. The distributors that are probably going to commit most fully to something like this are the indies or smaller studios that mostly focus on fringe or counterprogramming genres anyway. One such company is STXfilms, and this week, they moved forward with the romantic comedy Marry Me with Jennifer Lopez and Owen Wilson. Lopez will play a pop star who flees from her cheating groom at the altar and picks a random guy (Wilson) from the audience and marries him instead. Marry Me will be directed by Kat Coiro, whose three previous films all received Rotten Tomatometer scores.1. CHLOE GRACE MORETZ TO STAR IN TOM AND JERRY(Photo by Shane Mahood/Focus Features)Although their long-in-development sequel to Space Jam is the project that gets the most media attention (thanks to LeBron James), Warner Bros. is also moving along with their plans to reboot Tom and Jerry in just under two years (4/16/2021, to be precise). We ve known for a while that Tom and Jerry will be a live action/animation hybrid (in the tradition of 1945 s Anchors Aweigh), with the title cat and mouse being mute characters (so they won t have any voice actors). The lead human, we learned this week, will be Chloe Grace Moretz, who will play a hotel worker who hires a cat named Tom to get rid of a pesky mouse named Jerry who has taken up residence there. Tom and Jerry is the week s most Rotten Idea not because of Moretz, but because it s going to be directed by Tim Story, who hasn t directed a Fresh movie that wasn t a Kevin Hart comedy concert film since 2002.Like this?
