BOB软件下载app采用百度引擎8(Baidu 2)Although the consequences of COVID-19 made New York Comic Con cancel its usual convention experience, ReedPOP, the organization behind the annual celebration of geek chic, still managed to corral some of its energy with NYCC Metaverse. The four-day event featured plenty of video panels on NYCC’s YouTube channel, a handful of exclusive merchandise for those who go to cons to shop, and even an attempt at a virtual dealer’s room that may give you some idea of the madness involved in navigating a real one. That said, the event was still muted in comparison to a full-fledged weekend at New York’s Javits Center. The film industry s continuing need to push back release dates means no high-profile movies to promote and even the comics industry itself is preparing for a lonelier, digital future. Lucky for us, television still offers a lot to NYCC – in fact, the 2019 convention felt like the show for TV. And even with fewer events, the virtual 2020 show still felt like a huge showcase for broadcast networks, streaming services, and cable outlets. Here’s a rundown of the big reveals and updates TV shows offered to fans over the course of NYCC the past few days.Star Trek Universe Panel Reveals Captain (?) Kathryn Janeway Set to ReturnWith Star Trek: Lower Decks ending its first season and Star Trek: Discovery about to begin its third, the Star Trek Universe panel dedicated its big news to the return of a welcome friend: Kate Mulgrew and her Star Trek: Voyager character Kathryn Janeway. Mulgrew will once again play the part in Star Trek: Prodigy, an animated series being developed for Nickelodeon. It will focus on a group of teenagers who commandeer a decommissioned starship. And from Mulgrew’s comments, it seems Janeway will be mentoring the young starfarers in some way. “How thrilling to be able to introduce these young minds to an idea that has elevated the world for decades,” she said. The announcement, of course, sent Trek fans into a tizzy as they debated Janeway’s role and even her rank – last time we saw her in Star Trek: Nemesis, she was an admiral, but the Prodigy press release referred to her as “captain.” Her real position on the show will, no doubt, spark more debate. On the other shows, Discovery is preparing to send viewers the far-flung future of 3187 and the Lower Decks gang teased Boimler’s (Jack Quaid) new position on the Titan will not change in the second season. Well, at least not at first. Sadly, overall Star Trek creative director Alex Kurtzman offered no updates on Star Trek: Picard’s second season or the in-development Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, but he did tell one outlet he has enough ideas to keep Discovery on the air until 2027.Star Trek: Discovery returns this week.Doctor Who Set to Go Back Into Production, Plus New Details on this Year s Holiday Special COVID-19 even kept The Doctor (Jodie Whittaker) sheltering in place this year, but the Doctor Who star was thrilled to mention cast and crew are preparing to go back into production on Season 13 soon. In fact, you can hear someone in the Zoom call say they may be back to work in the next couple of weeks.”The program is no stranger to long production breaks – it took nearly 15 years off, after all – but there will be at least one episode of Doctor Who in 2020: the holiday special “Revolution of the Daleks.” Whittaker teased The Doctor will be in an intergalactic prison for a long time and “has no idea what’s happening on Earth.” The TARDIS Team (or “fam”), meanwhile, try to get on with their lives. Yaz (Mandip Gill) has the hardest time re-acclimating to the slower pace of Sheffield, but any sort of domestic tidings are obliterated when a Dalek comes to town. Somehow, Yaz, Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh) have to deal with the genocidal alien without The Doctor.“Talk about being thrown in the deep end,” Walsh said of their predicament. The group offered two preview photos of the special, but scheduling for the episode has not been finalized.Amazon Gives First Look at Invincible, Starring Steven YeunAfter what seems like an eternity, Amazon and co-creator Robert Kirkman finally unveiled footage from the upcoming animated adaptation of Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s Invincible. The series stars The Walking Dead’s Steven Yeun as the son of an alien superhero. At age 16, his powers finally manifest and he must learn the family trade. That seemingly innocent brief hides the mature themes and extreme violence the comic and the series will explore. Beyond a cast which includes Yeun, J.K. Simmons, Sandra Oh, Mark Hamill, and more, Kirkman announced Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Michael Dorn will lend his voice to Battle Beast – a former planetary guardian with an addiction to combat. The show is expected to premiere sometime next year. The Expanse Promises Most Epic Season Yet Season 5 of Amazon’s beloved science-fiction series The Expanse will be its most epic and the most personal season,” according to showrunner Naren Shankar. Centering on the notion that “you reap what you sow,” seeds of revolution and interpersonal conflict planted as far back as Season 1 will finally bear fruit. “It’s taking the people we’ve fallen in love with over the last four years and peeling back the layers,” he added. The story will also ask if they can “survive the most high-pressure situations they’ve ever been through” with their principles intact.Like Amazon’s superhero hit The Boys, The Expanse will offer the first three episodes of Season 5 on December 16 with the subsequent episodes releasing on a weekly basis.Snowpiercer Shares First Look At Season 2, Shares Details on Sean Bean s New CharacterSnowpiercer came to NYCC with a teaser for their upcoming season and a discussion of new characters Mr. Wilford (Sean Bean) and Alexandra Cavill (Rowan Blanchard). Both have key connections to Jennifer Connelly’s Melanie Cavill and it sounds like life will not be easy for her as Wilford’s train, Big Alice, barrels toward Snowpiercer. It also means profound troubles for Layton (Daveed Diggs) and his fledgling democracy aboard the titular locomotive. Showrunner Graeme Manson teased Big Alice’s society as something decidedly more authoritarian and the preview suggests Wilford and Layton are on a collision course all their own.Season 2 debuts on January 25The Watch Set to Take Some Liberties in Adapting Terry Pratchett s City Watch NovelsThe most important takeaway from BBC America’s panel for the upcoming series The Watch: Wendell Pierce is now part of the very small fraternity to voice author Terry Pratchett’s version of Death! Matt Berry will also appear as a talking sword called Wayne in the punk rock fantasy inspired by Pratchett’s City Watch novels (themselves set within the writer’s larger Discworld).Executive producers Richard Stokes and Simon Allen were quick to admit the show takes some liberties with Pratchett’s world and characters – nary a plate of armor to be found anywhere! – but it still sets out to honor the sarcastic and anarchic worlds Pratchett created, right down to the Watch being hamstrung by the city’s quasi-legal organized crime guilds. His books are full of rich characters and wonderful environments, Stokes said.Allen, who also serves as showrunner, went one step further in his admiration of Pratchett, telling viewers, Go read the books. They will change your life! The series features characters like Constable Carrot (Adam Hugill), a six-foot, broad-shouldered man who grew up believing he was a dwarf; an actual dwarf who moved to the city to escape the race s rigid unary gender system and uses “queer magic a conflicted werewolf with concerns about Carrot’s devotion to the Watch; and Watch captain Sam Vimes (Richard Dormer), a “dissolute” alcoholic according to the actor. Other characters include a noble turned vigilante with a pet dragon, a city ruler who “uses sarcasm more than anything else,” and recurring antagonist Karcer Dun (Sam Adewunmi), who the producers said may prove to be less of a villain as time goes on.The Watch comes to BBC America in January 3rd.The Walking Dead Panel Teases Crossovers and a Whole New Element to Its UniverseThe Walking Dead might be ending (eventually), but the zombie universe shambles on with two additional series on the air right now and plans for a further spin-off and anthology series in development – then, of course, there s that feature film with original star Andrew Lincoln on the way. It was so much content, AMC had to split its NYCC Walking Dead panels across two days. On the first day, a Showrunners Summit saw TWD Chief Content Officer Scott Gimple refer to a “far-flung story” which may see characters from the newest series, The Walking Dead: The World Beyond meeting up with favorites from Fear the Walking Dead or the original series. Considering World Beyond s focus on CRM, its story and Rick s (Lincoln) could intersect.Meanwhile, Fear will introduce a new sort of bounty hunter who specializes in locating people even if they ve become Walkers. Also, Morgan s (Lennie James) weird red eyes (as glimpsed in a clip shown during the panel) will be explored throughout the season as his new situation will lead to a whole new element of the Walking Dead universe.Back on the original Walking Dead, the Commonwealth and Maggie s (Lauren Cohan) reaction to Negan s (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) new place in the community will become the focus of the bonus Season 10 episodes currently in production. The 24-episode final season will occur sometime afterward, proving there is still plenty of life to The Walking Dead.Fear The Walking Dead and The Walking Dead: The World Beyond are currently airing on AMC.Syfy s Resident Alien Reveals First 10 MinutesSyfy brought the first 10 minutes of its new series Resident Alien to NYCC. Based on the Dark Horse comics by Peter Hogan and Steve Parkhouse, the show stars Alan Tudyk as an extraterrestrial on a “diabolical” mission who must disguise himself as a country doctor in a Colorado backwater when his ship crashes. According to showrunner Chris Sheridan, “he’s getting to know what it’s like to be human.” That exposure to humans is an element straight from the comic, although his drive to recover a lost tool to complete his mission is a new concept from Sheridan. Will becoming Dr. Harry Vanderspeigle alter his sense of duty? We’ll find out next year.Resident Alien debuts on Syfy in January.American Gods Adds New Characters As It Moves LakesideArmed with a trailer, American Gods confirmed it is finally making its way to the Lakeside portion of author Neil Gaiman’s book. Star Ricky Whittle said it was a “comfort” to know where the story is going – especially as Lakeside gives his character, Shadow Moon, a whole new status quo while he ponders the revelation about his father. Gaiman referred to Lakeside as a “little Twin Peaks-y story of its own.” Nevertheless, new showrunner Chuck Eglee forced Gaiman to consider what the other characters are doing while Shadow soul-searches and the stories they developed as a consequence will take the material in new directions.Besides introducing a clearer motivation for the new gods via Bruce Langley’s Technical Boy, the series will introduce a brand-new character, Cordelia, to the mix. Played by Ashley Reyes, Gaiman called the character, who takes Shadow’s place at Mr. Wednesday’s (Ian McShane) side, an “astonishing” addition.“For a human, she knows what she’s doing,” Reyes said of Cordelia, adding she “brings the humanity” out of the old god. Having no family of her own, she clings to him quickly. It may lead to some initial conflict with Shadow when they meet, but they have quite a strong bond” as the season wears on.And though it sounds like the characters will spend a lot of time apart, the trailer suggests a reunion between Shadow and Wednesday is set for sooner rather than later.American Gods returns in early 2021.Marvel’s M.O.D.O.K. Will Be Unlike Any Other Marvel Series We ve Seen Offering a few clips during their NYCC appearance, the cast and producer of Hulu’s upcoming M.O.D.O.K. series unveiled a glimpse into the home life of Marvel’s Mental Organism Designed Only For Killing. Patton Oswalt, who also serves as a producer, voices the beleaguered Marvel supervillain. Forced to sell his company to a competitor, he’s now a workaday Joe facing a destiny he no longer controls and a wife, Jodie (Aimee Garcia), whose home business is now more successful than he is. Then there’s his “queen bee” daughter Melissa (Melissa Fumero) – or M.E.L.I.S.S.A. depending on who you talk to – who wants to follow in M.O.D.O.K.’s footsteps, and his super-happy son Lou (Ben Schwartz), whose interests in magic and Judaism set him apart from the rest of the family.Realized by Stoopid Buddy Stoodios – the crew behind Robot Chicken – using stop-motion animation, M.O.D.O.K. looks like no other Marvel series. Indeed, it won’t be like any other Marvel series as it is one of the handful of idiosyncratic projects Hulu greenlit before Marvel Studios took over all of Marvel Entertainment’s creative endeavors.M.O.D.O.K. is coming soon to Hulu.Helstrom Shows Off First 10 Minutes, Future Remains Uncertain One of the other final Marvel Television projects for Hulu, Helstrom, screened the first 10 minutes of its first episode, in which Dr. Hastings (June Carryl) faces another tough night at the asylum and Daimon (Tom Austen) discovers his exorcism for the evening is nothing of the sort.Somewhere between family drama and horror TV show, Helstrom shares that “like no other Marvel show” vibe with M.O.D.O.K. And like that animated program, its future is unknown.Helstrom debuts this week.Shadow and Bone Reveals Musical Theme, Promises Ocean s 11 and Game of Thrones HybridAuthor Leigh Bardugo and executive producer Eric Heisserer offered a genuinely odd preview of the Grishaverse series Shadow and Bone. Thanks to COVID-19 and the lead-time needed to complete special effects, the pair offered no trailer. But they did convince Netflix to let them preview composer Joseph Trapanese’s “Grisha theme.” Heisserer described the series as “Ocean’s 11 in a Dickensian/Game of Thrones world” and promised he is trying hard to avoid putting the VFX crew into a grueling crunch period. Consequently, it may still take some time for any footage from the show – which stars Kit Young, Jessie Mei Li, and Ben Barnes as The Darkling – to materialize.Netflix Charmer Hilda Gets Epic and Introduces A New AntagonistOne of the most charming comic book adaptations on a streaming service is set to make its Netflix return this December. It follows Hilda (Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsey), a young girl who moves from the wilds to the relative metropolis of Trollburg. Her spirit of adventure never wavers, and in a world filled with monsters and secrets, that tenacity is a strength and a weakness. So much so, in fact, Ramsey revealed a song she wrote about Hilda’s inability to learn from her mistakes will be featured during the end credits of a Season 2 episode.Comic book creator Luke Pearson and head writer Stephanie Simpson teased the show will become more epic with the arrival of a genuine antagonist for Hilda – the chief of Trollburg’s safety patrol – and a further exploration of the city’s stranger quarters, like an old mill and a rumored witch’s tower which both moves from location to location and descends into the ground instead of building into the sky.Director Andy Coyle called Pearson and Simpson’s plans “big ‘scope’ ideas, especially for a TV show.” Although he was quick to add the biggest challenge of Hilda, the more subtle emotions of abstracted cartoon characters, remains the same. “It sounds counter-intuitive, but that’s way harder to pull off than a hoard of giant monsters in a kinetic set-piece.”Hilda returns to Netflix in December.Stargirl Will Face Off Against Eclipso In Season 2 (Which Is Still A Long Ways Off)Make no mistake, Stargirl’s second season is a long way off. Officially slated for The CW’s nebulous 2021 midseason, executive producer Geoff Johns told his cast during their NYCC session that the writers are in the midst of putting Episode 4 together. Nonetheless, they convinced him to offer some answers about the marathon of teases included at the end of Season 1. The major villain will be Eclipso, a creature of darkness who killed both Yolanda Montez and Beth Chapel in the pages of his own short-lived DC comic book. Both actors Yvette Monreal and Anjelika Washington hope to avoid their counterparts fate. Johns added Eclipso is a “scarier” threat than the Injustice Society and it will be quite a journey for Stargirl (Brec Bassinger) and the Justice Society of America to defeat him.Though once a member of the ISA, it is unclear if The Shade – another character teased at the end of Season 1 – will be a friend or foe. Johns was quick to credit fellow series producer James Robinson with making the character compelling in his 1990s Starman series. In Robinson’s book, the character merely dabbled in villainy as it suited his own purposes and it seems he may do the same here. The biggest of the teases was, of course, the revelation that Starman (Joel McHale) is still alive. Johns said his reason for showing up now will become clearer by the end of Season 2’s first episode. He also mentioned the other objects Stargirl stole from the old JSA headquarters will find new owners while Yolanda (Monreal) comes to grips with killing someone.Stargirl returns sometime in 2021.Pennyworth Sets December Premiere for Season 2Though the COVID-19 pandemic delayed Pennyworth’s second season, it is still making a 2020 debut. Set for a December 13 premiere on Epix, the program will air four episodes into the early part of January before taking a pause to complete the remaining six episodes. It sounds like it will be worth the wait.Show creator Bruno Heller and stars Jack Bannon, Ben Aldridge, and Paloma Faith offered NYCC viewers a brief preview of events. Set one year after the conclusion of Season 1, the war everyone worked to prevent has broken out and Thomas Wayne (Aldridge) is back in London looking after the CIA’s interests. Martha (Emma Paetz) is ready to fight for order, but Alfred (Bannon) wants nothing more than to earn enough money to move to the United States. Confusing matters, though, is Martha’s pregnancy. Though the child is presumably Thomas’s son, Aldridge and Bannon talked over each other to suggest things may not be so clear cut. Further complicating the issue: Thomas is engaged to a fine woman back in the States, although Heller characterized her as a part of the “old world” Thomas wants to escape. He event went to far as to call her a “throwaway gag.”Perhaps more solid are the new additions to the cast: Simon Manyonda as Lucius Fox and Jessica de Gouw as Melanie Troy. The former is a well-established member of the Batman supporting cast, although he will be “working for the bad guys” at the start, according to Heller. Troy, meanwhile, is the wife of Alfred’s wartime commanding officer. Nonetheless, they will have an “immediate connection.”Bet’s (Faith) loyalty to Lord Harwood (Jason Flemyng) will be rewarded with a position in his new regime. And as Faith put it, “She’s the sort of person who gets carried away in the uniform.”On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News.Photo thumbnail courtesy of The CW, Starz, AMC

Fans of the Ghostbusters franchise have been waiting for decades for another true sequel to the 1984 paranormal comedy and its 1989 follow-up. Regardless of whether you enjoyed the 2016 reboot, Ghostbusters: Afterlife has a lot to live up to. Fortunately, the first reviews of the new movie agree that the devoted fanbase will be pleased, and they’ll find a young new star to follow into more installments. There are some disagreements on just how much Afterlife works as both a sequel and as a movie overall, but it seems you don’t need to be afraid of this effort. Here’s what critics are saying about Ghostbusters: Afterlife:Is this the Ghostbusters sequel fans have been waiting for? “Ghostbusters: Afterlife emerges as a wildly successful next installment… An utter joy to take in.” Joey Magidson, Awards Radar“This new spin gets it soooooo right… A warm, funny, exciting, nostalgic, emotional, and altogether winning return to the pure joy of that 1984 classic.” Pete Hammond, Deadline“In terms of being a Ghostbusters movie, what Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan achieved with this film is incredible. This is the Ghostbusters sequel that I have been waiting my entire life to see.” Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment“Make no mistake, this is a Ghostbusters movie through and through.” Rosie Knight, IGN Movies“It’s not quite the same as the Ghostbusters we know, but it entirely feels like Ghostbusters.” Olly Richards, Empire Magazine“The good news for Ghostbusters fans is that Afterlife does nothing to tarnish what has come before.” Peter Debruge, Variety“When it’s good, it’s very good.” Germain Lussier,“One of the best sequels in recent memory.” Marya E. Gates, Nerdist“You go from caring about these characters to being distracted by all of the references, and that’s a real shame.” Germain Lussier, io9.comDoes it bring anything new to the franchise?“Very new in all the right ways.” Pete Hammond, Deadline“Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a more grandiloquent approach than the original flick… It mostly works because of how winning the new elements are.” David Crow, Den of Geek“It’s rich with affection for its source but excited about new ways to play with it. ” Olly Richards, Empire Magazine“Plenty here is shiny and new… It shines brightest when Reitman finds new ways to spin these callbacks, rather than just repeat them. ” Marya E. Gates, Nerdist“It’s endearing to see [all the] props back in play, and refreshing to see how Reitman uses them in drastically different fashion than his father did. ” Sean O Connell, CinemaBlend“Afterlife succeeds precisely by not messing with the formula… This is a movie that feels like a product of the ’80s in a good way. ” Jane Crowther, Total Film“The story these characters are sucked into is so directly tied to the original… Ghostbusters: Afterlife feels like a film scared to be its own thing. ” Germain Lussier, by Columbia Pictures)What if you’ve never seen Ghostbusters?“You can go into this movie without seeing any of the previous movies, and you ll like it just as much as a fan will.” Kaitlyn Booth, Bleeding Cool“It manages to balance that fine and financially lucrative line between pleasing fans of the original and creating something accessible for new audiences.” Rosie Knight, IGN Movies“This film will open the doors to those who may not have seen the original. I can see this film becoming a massive hit and generating a fan base.” Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment“It s hard to imagine Ghostbusters: Afterlife minting a new generation of fans.” Christian Holub, Entertainment WeeklyDoes it have broad appeal?“There is plenty here for everyone to like. King of the Crop: “Original” Us Takes Records For Horror, March and “R”-Rated Films(Photo by Universal)Let’s lay out some pretty amazing facts about Us’ million weekend. That is the highest opening ever for an original “R”-rated film. The 11 “R” films to open higher were either sequels or adapted from popular books. Us is also the biggest opening ever for an original live-action film in March and an original horror film in any month. Only It and last year’s Halloween opener higher. But…can it outgross Get Out s 6 million?Us has already doubled Get Out’s .4 million opening. A good start indeed. It is the 142nd film to open with million or more. Of those previous 141 films, do you know how many failed to reach the 6 million earned by Get Out? Six. (Fifty Shades of Grey, Halloween 2018, Fast and Furious, Quantum of Solace, X-Men: Apocalypse, 2012). That is already 95.7% in favor of Us besting Get Out’s total. The number to watch next week when Dumbo knocks Us back to second is whether its second weekend is over or under million.Rotten Returns: Captive State Takes A Dive(Photo by Focus Features)In its second week, Focus Features’ Captive State could not remain in a Top 10 where four finishers made less than million this weekend. That is because it took an estimated 70.7% drop to only 8,000. The million production that has grossed all of .2 million in 10 days of release is the second film of 2018 to have a 70% drop or higher. (Replicas fell 81.5%.) In 2018 there were six wide releases that dropped as much in their second weekend – Mortal Engines, Assassination Nation, Gringo, Super Troopers 2, Kin, and Once Upon a Deadpool.Top 10 and Beyond: Captain Marvel Hits Top 10 Of MCU(Photo by Disney)One film already carving its path amongst the all-timers at the box office is Captain Marvel. With another million this weekend its total stands at 1 million, the 21st-best total for a film after 17 days of release. Its worldwide total currently stands at 0 million – or – the 7th highest-grossing film based on a Marvel property ever.Among other victories in the Top 10 this week we have How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which is up to 8 million worldwide, just million behind the original (which is still the series’ domestic champion with 7.5 million.) If estimates hold on A Madea Family Funeral it will officially be the third highest-grossing film of Tyler Perry’s directorial career. Finally while the numbers are not giant for Five Feet Apart, a 34% drop from last week means the million production has now grossed over million and should get itself at least over million when all is said and done. This Time Last Year: Pacific Rim Led, But Would Soon Fall(Photo by Warner Bros)One of the biggest bombs of 2018, nevertheless, opened to no. 1 this weekend. Pacific Rim Uprising began with .1 million and later finished with just under million total domestically. Black Panther was finally knocked back to second place with another million as it had amassed over 1 million after six weekends. Also opening with Sherlock Gnomes (.6 million), Paul Apostle of Christ (.1 million), Midnight Sun ( million) and Steven Soderbergh’s Unsane which missed the top ten with .7 million. Leading the per-theater-average charge was Wes Anderson’s Isle of Dogs (,011 on each of its 27 screens for .62 million.) Fifty Shades Freed also managed to finally cross the 0 million mark.On the Vine: Elephants and a Beach Bum(Photo by Dumbo)Disney releases the first of their 2019 live-action remakes with Dumbo. Tim Burton’s 2010 adaptation of Alice in Wonderland was the biggest success of his career and Dumbo could very well end up being his second highest global success. Also opening wide is PureFlix’s abortion drama, Unplanned, the first “R”-rated release for the Christian-based company. Finally, Neon releases Harmony Korine’s The Beach Bum with Matthew McConaughey. The Full Top 10: March 22-24Us (2019) 93% – .25 million (.25 million total)Captain Marvel (2019) 79% – .02 million (1.49 million total)Wonder Park (2019) 34% – .00 million (.47 million total)Five Feet Apart (2019) 53% – .75 million (.46 million total)How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) 90% – .53 million (5.75 million total)Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral (2019) 11% – .50 million (.88 million total)Gloria Bell (2018) 91% – .80 million (.49 million total)No manches Frida 2 (2019) 13% – .78 million (.62 million total)The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part (2019) 84% – .13 million (3.32 million total)Alita: Battle Angel (2019) 61% – .01 million (.87 million total)

ast, except for Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, and Phoebe Waller-Bridge (whose 1960s-style costume was revealed online this week). The same is true for the latest star to join Indiana Jones 5 (7/29/2022), which is Antonio Banderas, whose role in the film we also know pretty much nothing about. Nevertheless, the Indy 5 cast is shaping up to be an impressive one, so here s to hoping the end result is worth the wait.Other Top Headlines1. WANDAVISION DIRECTOR TO BOLDLY GO TO STAR TREK (Photo by Michael Germana/Everett Collection)The Disney+ mini-series WandaVision (Fresh at 91%) was many things, but it began as a decade-at-a-time love letter to the sitcoms of classic television. It should perhaps not come as a surprise then that WandaVision director Matt Shakman is moving on to a movie franchise that got its start as an adaptation of a classic 1960s TV show. Matt Shakman has signed with Paramount Pictures and J.J. Abrams Bad Robot to direct their next Star Trek feature film, working from a screenplay by Lindsey Beer and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (co-writer of Captain Marvel, Tomb Raider), whose involvement makes this Star Trek the first of the franchise s films to be written by female screenwriters. The premise of this Star Trek film is still being kept secret, including whether it will feature previous Kelvin Timeline stars like Chris Pine, Simon Pegg, and Zachary Quinto. This project should also not be confused with the Star Trek to which Quentin Tarantino was once attached. In related news, Lindsey Beer is also currently filming her directorial debut, which will be a prequel to the 2019 remake of Stephen King s Pet Sematary (Rotten at 57%).2. BILL MURRAY JOINS WES ANDERSON S NEXT (Photo by ©Fox Searchlight Pictures)Although Bill Murray did not appear in director Wes Anderson s very first movie, Bottle Rocket (Certified Fresh at 85%), beginning with Rushmore, he has been in all of Anderson s films since. Two weeks ago, another of Anderson s frequent collaborators, Tilda Swinton, was the first to be announced for his untitled next film, which is described as some sort of love story possibly set in a desert landscape (which is filming in Spain). Naturally, Bill Murray has now also joined the project, although we don t know anything about his character (or, for that matter, Swinton s). Both Murray and Swinton co-star in Wes Anderson s next film, The French Dispatch (10/22/2021), which just held its world premiere at Cannes earlier this week.3. THIS WEEK IN JOHN WICK: IAN MCSHANE RETURNING FOR #4 (Photo by David Lee/©Summit Entertainment)Some movies quietly get made with relatively little hullabaloo about casting, while other publicity departments turn the casting process into an ongoing campaign. One movie currently filming that has been consistently making the news because of its casting is John Wick Chapter 4 , which has been covered here at least three times recently (for the castings of Rina Sawayama, Donnie Yen, and, just last week, Lance Reddick). This week, John Wick Chapter 4 made the news twice, first for Chilean stunt actor Marko Zaror (From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series), and then for Ian McShane, who will be reprising his franchise role as Winston, the proprietor of the Continental Hotel, a neutral zone where assassins can come to recuperate but must refrain from conducting any business. 4. HENRY CAVILL IS LATEST TO TAKE ON THE ROSIE PROJECT (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)Plenty of movie projects take years and years to get made, but generally, these loops tend to affect certain types of films (remakes, sequels, etc.) the most. One genre that seems to be making a comeback, though, is the romantic comedy (partly because Hollywood doesn t make these as much anymore). The Rosie Project is a rom-com that has been bouncing around since 2014, with people like Jennifer Lawrence, Ryan Reynolds, and Jake Gyllenhaal potentially slated to star, and directors like Richard Linklater and the team of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller were once attached. Ultimately, it appears the film will be a vehicle for Henry Cavill, whose spy movie Argylle was just our Top Story last week, as The Witcher star signed on to The Rosie Project this week. Cavill will play an an unlucky-in-love university professor who creates an elaborate questionnaire in an effort to find a wife, but the woman he falls in love with doesn t match his criteria. The Rosie Project will now be the directorial debut of its screenwriter, Steve Falk.5. MICHAEL B. JORDAN S REMAKE OF THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR STILL IN DEVELOPMENT (Photo by JA/Everett Collection)For better or worse, some movies get seem to get remade for each new generation (A Star is Born, for example). Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway starred in the original 1968 art heist romantic thriller The Thomas Crown Affair (Fresh at 72%), which was then remade in 1999 (Fresh at 70%) with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. Back in 2016, we first reported that MGM had started development of a third version with Michael B. Jordan attached to produce and star, but since it s been five years, it would have been reasonable to assume the project was shelved. Instead, remaking The Thomas Crown Affair is reportedly still very much a high priority for MGM, which this week hired screenwriter Wes Tooke (Midway, Rotten at 41%) to adapt the concept for Michael B. Jordan.6. ANNA KENDRICK AND LOKI STAR ANSWER ALICE, DARLING (Photo by Jason Mendez/Everett Collection)Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air, Certified Fresh at 90%) and Wunmi Mosaku (Hunter B-15 from Loki) are now in Canada filming a psychological thriller for Lionsgate called Alice, Darling. Kendrick is playing the title character, who is behaving strangely, keeping secrets about her mercurial boyfriend (Charlie Carrick) from her two best friends (Wunmi Mosaku and Kaniehtiio Horn). Alice, Darling will be the directorial debut of Mary Nighy, the daughter of British actor Bill Nighy, Coincidentally, there is also an actress named Alice Darling, but she doesn t appear to be co-starring in Alice, Darling. Too bad.7. AMAZON S WHEEL OF TIME TO GET AGE OF LEGENDS TIE-IN TRILOGY (Photo by Tor Books)When fantasy author Robert Jordan died in 2007 at the age of 58, he left behind his popular Wheel of Time series yet unfinished, and another writer eventually finished it off. Wheel of Time is now being adapted as an Amazon Prime series to premiere later in 2021, but given exactly how big Jordan s series is, it might be unlikely that the Amazon show could ever adapt it all. With that in mind, Radar Pictures has hired screenwriter Zack Stentz (co-writer of Thor, X-Men: First Class) to adapt the screenplay of the first of a planned trilogy set during the Age of Legends as a prequel set thousands of years before Jordan s Wheel of Time series. The Age of Legends trilogy is being planned to compliment the Amazon Prime series.8. TOP GUN: MAVERICK DIRECTOR TO TAKE ON TALKING CAR CHARIOT  (Photo by ©Universal Pictures)The Fast Furious franchise has obviously become a box office juggernaut ( billion and counting, worldwide), but other attempts at adapting super fast cars to the big screen have frequently stalled. Specifically, movie versions of the TV show Knight Rider, the video game series Spy Hunter, and the toy line Hot Wheels have all been in and out of development over the last 20 years, but  none of them has been made yet. This week s news seems to promise another movie along those lines, as it s an adaptation of the indie comic book series Chariot, about a criminal who discovers a Cold War-era super spy s weaponized car, only to learn that the agent s consciousness now controls the car (hence our comparisons to Spy Hunter and Knight Rider). Warner Bros. won an auction for the rights to Chariot, with Joseph Kosinski (Oblivion, Tron: Legacy) attached to direct. Kosinski s next films will be Top Gun: Maverick (11/19/2021) and the Netflix movie Escape from Spiderhead, starring Chris Hemsworth.9. REVEALED THIS WEEK: CHADWICK BOSEMAN ALMOST STARRED IN L.A. CONFIDENTIAL SEQUEL (Photo by Marvel Studios)In addition to all of the stories that are officially announced each week, there are also things going on behind closed doors that we as the moviegoing public wouldn t normally hear about. The death last year of Chadwick Boseman has made the non-realization of one such project even more bittersweet. In an interview this week, screenwriter Brian Helgeland revealed that he and L.A. Confidential author James Ellroy had pitched Warner Bros. on a sequel that would have been set decades later in the 1970s. In addition to returning stars Russell Crowe and Guy Pearce, the sequel would have introduced a young L.A.P.D. police officer played by Chadwick Boseman (who had previously worked with Helgeland on the Jackie Robinson biopic 42, Certifed Fresh at 81%).On an Apple device? BOB软件下载app The holiday box office is still awaiting its best and brightest. For two weeks it has been filled with one underperforming title after another and that pile found some more company this weekend. Though the appearance of a success is certainly a smidge of good news this weekend for theaters, how far Ford v Ferrari will go to recover another extravagant budget remains to be seen. But it is the leader in spirit at the moment and could be a top five finisher for the next month to come.King of the Crop: Ford v Ferrari: Dawn of (box office) justiceJames Mangold’s Ford v Ferrari opened to million, and it checks a lot of boxes in box-office watching: Two major stars, a successful director and a November opening. Where it certainly stands out is amongst its very specific genre. Unless your racing movie involved Pixar, Will Ferrell, or was wedged into a faux Point Break remake advertising itself as “fast” AND “furious,” car racing is not a genre that has drawn great interest beyond its base. Renny Harlin’s Driven (.7 million), Ron Howard’s Rush (.9 million), not even the video-game inspired Need for Speed (.5 million) could make what FvF is going to make in its first 10 days. The star power certainly helps. Tom Cruise got Days of Thunder to over million back in 1990 and with a million head start, Bale and Damon may help this one go even further. (We ranked Ford v Ferrari as the likely eighth-highest–grossing film this season in our holiday box office preview.)Terminator: Dark Fate opened to million, dropping out of the top 10 in just its third weekend, and now looks like it will not hit million. (For those looking for some history, Terminator: Dark Fate is the first film to open numbr 1 and only spend two weeks in the top 10 since Texas Chainsaw 3-D in January 2013.) FvF is hoping to be more on the Creed/Murder on the Orient Express side of the equation, hoping to cross the 0 million finish line. Frozen II and A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will knock it back to third next weekend, then Knives Out will put it in fourth in what could still be a very nice five-day weekend for FvF over the Thanksgiving holiday. With little challenge over the December 6 weekend, Mangold’s film should be at worst in the top five and that helped get Wonder over 0 million in 2017 after starting with .5 million. Ford is still looking at a million production budget to overcome, but has also grossed an additional million internationally.Rotten Returns: Charlie s Angels grounded(Photo by Sony Pictures)There is no sugarcoating the numbers on Elizabeth Banks’ reboot of Charlie’s Angels. Scoring 60% with critics on the Tomatometer so far may be the best number it is going to see going forward. The 2000 big-screen version took in .6 million on its first day; the 2003 sequel made .6 million on Friday. The 2019 version grossed just .5 million in its first three days. The million production is not going to be the kind of disaster that Terminator: Dark Fate nor possibly Midway is headed for, but it is no question a major disappointment that has killed any hopes of it becoming a franchise of any kind. No film opening in November between million and million since 2000 has reached .5 million, which is less than Charlie’s Angels (2000) and Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle grossed in their opening weekends. The Top 10 And Beyond: Battle of Midway profitability, Joker crosses a billionLast week’s number 1 managed to win the battle against Charlie’s Angels but it is certainly losing the war. Dropping 51% in its second weekend to .75 million, Roland Emmerich’s Midway now finds itself between The Bone Collector and Harlem Nights on the all-time November chart after 10 days. That would give Midway a final estimate between -66 million, except its weekend is roughly -3 million behind either of those films, so even that low bar is in danger of not being passed. The 0 million production has grossed just .6 million internationally for a total of .7 million to date and is looking like one of the biggest losers of 2019.In the number 2 slot last week was The Shining sequel, Doctor Sleep. This week it is in sixth place after dropping 59%. With .03 million it is estimated right now to finish between million and million, below its million budget. It has made just another .8 million overseas to date and, domestically, is looking like it will ultimately fall behind all of its challengers from last week. The John Cena family firefighter comedy, Playing with Fire, is on pace for close to million and Paul Feig’s holiday-romance-with-a-twist, Last Christmas, could be looking at over million.Warner Bros. is probably not thrilled with Bill Condon’s The Good Liar getting started with just .6 million, but the thriller with Helen Mirren and Ian McKellen only carried a million budget. The film should at least gross that much but will need some overseas love to cover its prints and advertising. Thankfully, WB still has Joker killing it. Not only did it become the first “R”-rated film in history to pass a billion dollars worldwide, but it also passed the 2008 total of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight featuring Heath Ledger’s posthumous Oscar-winning role of the iconic villain. Joker is now the 43rd highest-grossing film of all-time with 2 million domestic and over 4 million internationally. (See our guide to the highest-grossing movies ever.)Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit added another 197 theaters (995 total) and made another .81 million in its fifth weekend. The Oscar-winning Spotlight made .8 million in its fifth weekend in 980 theaters and had .5 million to date. The Oscar-nominated The Kids Are All Right made .59 million in 994 theaters and had grossed .04 million. Jojo Rabbit currently has a .59 million total. A24’s release of Trey Edwards Shults’ Waves grossed 4,562 in just four theaters. If the estimate holds, its ,140 per-theater-average will be the 12th best of the year and the third best for A24 in 2019 behind The Farewell (,916) and The Lighthouse (,475). The latter lost 393 theaters this weekend and its total stands at .79 million.Meanwhile, the holder of the best PTA of the year, Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite (8,072) pulled in another .9 million in 620 theaters in its sixth weekend. That is better than Moonlight did in its sixth weekend in 618 theaters (.21 million). Barry Jenkins’ Best Picture-winning film had made .54 million in its first 38 days of release. Parasite is at .4 million, which is almost exactly on par with what Best Picture nominee Good Night And Good Luck had at the same point. This Time Last Year: A little grim for GrindelwaldThe prequel extension of the Harry Potter universe, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, opened atop the box office with .16 million, which was more than million less than the first film in 2016, and ultimately grossed around million less total domestically. The Mark Wahlberg/Rose Byrne comedy, Instant Family, opened in fourth to .5 million. And one of the bigger disappointments of the season, Steve McQueen’s Widows, opened in fifth place with .36 million. The Grinch held strong in second with .58 million in its second weekend. Bohemian Rhapsody was third with .04 million. In 10th place was the documentary, Burn the Stage: The Movie, about pop group BTS, which grossed .42 million in just 629 theaters. The top 10 films grossed 1.43 million and averaged 47.22% on the Tomatometer. (Burn the Stage still does not have an official score.) This year’s top 10 grossed an estimated .13 million and averaged 58.6% with critics. On the Vine: A Beautiful Day and a Frozen SequelParents are already making plans with their kids on when to see Disney’s Frozen II, the sequel to the studio’s highest-grossing animated film of all-time. Expect an opening in the nine-digit region and play throughout the rest of the season. While the children are engaged with Anna and Elsa, parents get a chance to spend some time with one of their childhood icons in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood. Tom Hanks plays Fred Rogers and may be looking at his sixth Oscar nomination and possibly his third statuette. Also vying for awards attention is the latest from Todd Haynes, Dark Waters, with Mark Ruffalo in a tale of environmental corporate malfeasance. From class action to just action there is also the oft-delayed cop thriller, 21 Bridges, with Chadwick Boseman. The film has was delayed July-to-September and then now to November 22.The Full Top 10: November 15-17Ford v Ferrari (2019) 92% – .03  million (.03 million total)Midway (2019) 42% – .75  million (.14 million total)Charlie's Angels (2019) 52% – .60 million (.60 million total)Playing With Fire (2019) 24% – .55 million (.49 million total)Last Christmas (2019) 46% – .70 million (.57 million total)Doctor Sleep (2019) 78% – .18  million (.03 million total)The Good Liar (2019) 63% – .65  million (.65 million total)Joker (2019) 68% – .63  million (2.59 million total)Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) 39% – .24 million (6.04 million total)Harriet (2019) 73% – .78 million (.88 million total)

This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering new projects for Jason Statham, Adam Driver, Jamie Foxx, Daisy Ridley, and more. This WEEK S TOP STORYADAM DRIVER JOINS NEW FILM FROM WRITERS OF A QUIET PLACE(Photo by ©Netflix)Adam Driver is coming off a monster 2019, during which he not only completed his run in the Star Wars sequel trilogy as Kylo Ren but also earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his work in Noah Baumbach s Netflix original film Marriage Story. Next up for Driver is Ridley Scott s historical drama The Last Duel, which just went back into production after initiating a hiatus due to COVID-19, and he s in talks for Scott s next film, the Lady Gaga-powered based-on-true-events crime drama Gucci, but he s also just landed what could be a very interesting new role. Deadline reports that Driver has signed on to a film called 65, which will be written and directed by Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, the duo who wrote John Krasinki s A Quiet Place. Sam Raimi will also be producing the film, which, combined with the presence of Beck and Woods, gives us some idea what kind of movie it will be, though no details on the plot have yet been released. There s also no indication when 65 will go into production, but considering Driver s busy schedule and in-demand status, it could be a while.Other Top Headlines1. JASON STATHAM AND GUY RITCHIE COLLABORATE AGAIN FOR SPY THRILLER(Photo by Gareth Davies/Getty Images)Before he transitioned to big-budget studio blockbusters, Guy Ritchie made his bones with a couple of slick and witty crime capers featuring a then-unknown Jason Statham (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch). After he turned in the live-action remake of Disney s Aladdin last year, he then returned to those roots with The Gentlemen, albeit without Statham. And while Ritchie and Statham are indeed scheduled to reunite for another caper called Cash Truck, which is currently in post-production, they ll be taking their talents international with a new spy thriller called Five Eyes. The story will follow an MI6 agent (Statham) who is recruited by global intelligence alliance Five Eyes to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapon that threatens to disrupt the world order. Including the yet-to-be-released Cash Truck (it s scheduled for January 15, 2021), this will be the fifth collaboration between Ritchie and Statham.2. UPCOMING ZACK SNYDER ZOMBIE MOVIE GETS A PREQUEL AND ANIME SERIES(Photo by ©Netflix)Zack Snyder made a big splash a couple weekends ago during the DC FanDome event when he unveiled the first trailer for The Snyder Cut of Justice League, which will air in four parts on the HBO Max streaming service sometime in 2021. In the meantime, Snyder has been working on a little zombie heist film called Army of the Dead, purportedly developed as a sequel to his 2004 remake of Dawn of the Dead. That film is slated to be released on Netflix, and although we don t yet know exactly when that ll be, the streaming giant has gone ahead and greenlit both a prequel film and a spin-off anime series. Prolific German actor Matthias Schweighöfer (Valkyrie, The Command), who will appear in Army of the Dead, will also star in and direct the prequel, which will center on his character, while Army of the Dead writer Shay Hatten (John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum) will write both the prequel and the anime series, the latter of which will be called Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas and focus on Dave Bautista s character from the film. No word on when we ll be getting those yet, either.3. JAMIE FOXX, TEYONAH PARRIS JOIN JOHN BOYEGA NETFLIX THRILLER(Photo by Dee Cercone, Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)Just a few weeks ago, Netflix released the superhero-themed Project Power to somewhat mixed reviews, further reinforcing their efforts to lean hard into genre entertainment. What set that film apart, like The Old Guard before it, from some of its lesser fare was the presence of A-list talent, namely Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jamie Foxx. Currently, Netflix is gearing up for another production with Star Wars alumnus John Boyega at the lead called They Cloned Tyrone, which will be the directorial debut of Juel Taylor, the screenwriter of Creed II, and Foxx is one of the two new stars who joined it this week. Ther other is Teyonah Parris (Dear White People, If Beale Street Could Talk), who will appear later this year (presumably) in Nia DaCosta s Candyman. The characters played by Boyega, Foxx, and Parris will be thrust onto the trail of a nefarious government conspiracy after a series of eerie events, evidently involving clones, if the title is any indication. In somewhat related news, Boyega also made headlines this week when an interview he did with GQ revealed that he was not a fan of how Disney and the Star Wars sequel trilogy treated its characters of color Finn in particular prompting renewed debate over the films.4. DAISY RIDLEY JOINS WWII DRAMA WOMEN IN THE CASTLE(Photo by Nicola Dove/©20th Century Fox Film Corporation)Considering the impact it had on the world, it shouldn t surprise anyone that we continue to see new films set during World War II, even despite the wealth of stories we already have about the era. The latest is a film called Women in the Castle, a drama adapted from the 2017 novel of the same name by Jessica Shattuck. The story revolves around three women whose husbands were killed in an assassination attempt on Hitler, and how their lives are individually affected by the event. This week we learned that the three women will be played by Daisy Ridley (Rey from the recent Star Wars trilogy), Kristin Scott Thomas (The English Patient, Darkest Hour), and German actress Nina Hoss, who earned widespread acclaim for another recent WWII film, Phoenix. Women in the Castle will be adapted and directed by Jane Anderson, whose 2017 film The Wife earned Glenn Close a number of awards and an Oscar nomination for Best Actress.5. CHLOE GRACE MORETZ JOINS SCI-FI THRILLER MOTHER/ANDROID(Photo by Shane Mahood/Focus Features)Like Zack Snyder, Matt Reeves made an appearance at DC FanDome to stoke anticipation for his upcoming film The Batman, for which he unveiled the very first trailer. As he continues to pull that film together in the face of unforeseen hurdles (more on that below), Reeves is also putting on his producer hat for a new sci-fi film that will be the directorial debut of Mattson Tomlin, who came on board to help Reeves write the script for The Batman and whose most recent script was for Netflix s Project Power. The new film is called Mother/Android, and it will star Chloe Grace Moretz (who appeared in Reeves Let Me In)as a young pregnant woman who flees with her boyfriend from a war between their country and a malevolent artificial intelligence in hopes of giving birth in a safe environment. Tomlin, who also wrote the script, based the story on his own parents who fled the Romanian Revolution. Mother/Android doesn t have a release date yet, but Tomlin has a number of big projects on the horizon, including the sci-fi drama Little Fish and a big-screen adaptation of the video game Mega Man, so it could be a while.6. DISNEY S HAUNTED MANSION IS BACK IN DEVELOPMENT(Photo by Walt Disney courtesy Everett Collection)While Disney has gotten mixed results from their films based on theme park attractions, most everyone agrees that 2003 s The Haunted Mansion, starring Eddie Murphy, was a tragic misfire. A few years later in 2010, there was some hope that longtime fan Guillermo del Toro would be able to craft something worthwhile as he set about developing a new take on the ride that would be scary and fun at the same time, but the scary will be scary. As the years passed, del Toro struggled to make much headway on the film, even with Ryan Gosling in talks to star at one point, and as recently as 2019, he expressed doubt that the film would ever be made, though he would love to see a Haunted Mansion movie by someone who loves it. That time may have come, as Disney recently announced they are moving forward with a new adaptation of The Haunted Mansion, this time written by Katie Dippold. Dippold s most recent credits include the Melissa McCarthy/Sandra Bullock action comedy The Heat, the 2016 reboot of Ghostbusters, and 2017 s Snatched, as well as episodes of Parks and Recreation. The next big movie based on a Disney ride will be Jungle Cruise, starring Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, which is scheduled to open on July 31, 2021.7. ROBERT PATTINSON, DWAYNE JOHNSON AMONG STARS WHO HAVE CONTRACTED COVID-19(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough, Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)As we ve mentioned frequently over the past few months, the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has resulted in film and television production delays across the board, but lost time is nothing when compared to the very real threat of illness, and famous people are, of course, no more immune to COVID-19 than the rest of us. Back in March, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson were the first two high-profile celebrities who revealed they had come down with the virus while filming Baz Luhrmann s Elvis Presley biopic in Australia (they re currently recovering),  and they were followed by others, like Idris Elba, Sara Bareilles, Daniel Dae Kim, Bryan Cranston, Lena Dunham, and Zoey Deutch, just to name a few. This week, we learned that two more of Hollywood s biggest stars have also contracted the virus. Dwayne Johnson took to Instagram to announce to his fans that he and his family had tested positive for COVID-19, but were currently on the other side of it and recuperating, while it was also revealed that Matt Reeves production of The Batman had to be halted just days after shooting on the film had resumed because star Robert Pattinson had also tested positive for the virus. The latter announcement comes just a little over a week after DC FanDome, when Reeves unveiled the new trailer for the film and offered fans the first look of Pattinson in action as the character. It remains to be seen how long the delay will be, but it serves as a reminder to the rest of us that nobody is above the pandemic. So please stay vigilant, stay safe, and practice social distancing protocols, so we can all enjoy The Batman together.8. HOLLYWOOD RESPONDS TO DEATH OF CHADWICK BOSEMAN(Photo by Marvel Studios)Last Friday, the world was stunned to learn that Chadwick Boseman, the actor who had portrayed such real-life luminaries as James Brown, Jackie Robinson, and Thurgood Marshall, as well as the Marvel superhero Black Panther, had succumbed to the colon cancer he had been battling since 2016. Part of the shock came because of what he represented to movie fans, but also because no one not even those he worked closely with was aware of his condition, even as he churned out critically acclaimed hits and record-breaking blockbusters. News of his death, as reported by his family on Twitter, resonated powerfully with fans, which resulted in an outpouring of emotion and inspired a number of tributes. In the wake of the announcement, the film Black Panther shot to the top of charts on Amazon and iTunes, while ABC aired the film on Sunday along with a tribute to Boseman anchored by Robin Roberts and TBS made space in its schedule to air the film twice. AMC theaters also decided to rerelease the Jackie Robinson biopic 42 in theaters, beginning this weekend, and after just one day, the tweet announcing his death became the most liked tweet ever. Boseman clearly had a massive impact on the world, and he will be sorely missed.
