当然了,能够支撑这些玩家在游戏中发挥自己的奇思妙想,《天谕》手游自身极高的可玩性也是关键,毕竟不是每款手游都能像它这样拥有如此多样化的玩法内容的~ Oscar-winner Taika Waititi and his Jojo Rabbit producing partner Carthew Neal are back on the Indie Fresh List with a new hilarious rom-com about a pair of reluctant millennial parents. Matthew Lewis and New Zealand comedian Rose Matafeo play a long-term couple who become pregnant and choose to embark on a baby bucket list of things they want to do before they become boring parents. Matafeo, who previously starred in another Neal Waititi production, The Breaker Upperers, is a revelation in this hilarious star-making vehicle, and Lewis gives one of his most captivating performances as her earnest partner who, despite not carrying the child, seems to be the only one to grasp the reality of the imminent birth. We recently chatted with Lewis about working in his generation s push to delay parenthood, what s on his Baby Bucket List, and what it was like working with Matafeo.Jacqueline Coley for Rotten Tomatoes: How did you get involved with the project and why did you want to sign on?Matthew Lewis: I read the script before I even knew about anybody involved with it. I loved the story and thought it would really resonate with a lot of people. I especially enjoyed the gender reversal, in that typically it’s the men who are running away from responsibility and having a baby and want to selfishly get on with their lives and leave the woman to carry the burden both metaphorically and physically. This movie is the opposite; it’s Tim that is desperate to be a good dad, the kind of dad that he never had, whereas Zoe is trying to stay independent and is scared of having to move on to the next stage of her life and motherhood. Not to mention I really felt that I “got” Tim, I understood him. Sometimes you read a script, and even if you like it, it feels like it’s going to be an effort; you’re going to have to work to discover this character and create something. Other times, like this, it’s all there on the page. You just get it, and you know exactly who he is, who you want him to be, how he talks, etc. That’s always nice. They’re both fun in their own way, and it still works, but it’s a lot less work.Talk about Rose Matafeo. Why is she such a great person to fall in love with on screen?Rose is incredibly talented. People already know her for comedy, but she’s got a real instinct for drama, and it’s incredibly natural and charming, and being able to fuse both is not easy, but she just knows how to do it. She loves film and so has a keen understanding of its structure and what works and what doesn’t being a master of improv helps too. It’s impressive to see somebody instinctively understand how to be a leader both on-screen and off despite never having done it before. There has been a lot of talk about Millennials and Gen Zers waiting longer to have kids. Do you think this movie speaks to that?Yeah, absolutely. My generation and especially the one after, at least in the western world, live in this weird sort of limbo where so many simultaneously struggle to survive, to get a job, to earn a living wage, to get by, and yet also live in a world of opportunity, a world where you can fly around the world. You can live and work in other countries. Or at least that’s the idea we’re sold. We have more opportunity than any generation in history to do so many things the world is smaller than it’s ever been and there’s a worry that if you have kids and settle down before you’ve seen and done everything, then you’ve failed. You’ve wasted your life. But then also, nobody has any money and can’t pay their rent. I feel like so many people are putting off having kids in the hopes they can do all this stuff they’ve been promised they can do, but then they end up not being able to afford it, so they just go out drinking at the weekend. But you know what? That’s fine, isn’t it.Having kids, I’m sure, is a beautiful, wonderful thing, but you don’t have to. And anyone who chooses to is being entirely selfless, and that’s amazing. But it’s also not an indictment of a person to not want to. There’s f ing loads of humans on earth; we don’t really need more. But I guess the point is that we’re all led to believe that we can do all this cool stuff, but if we don’t and just have kids, then our life sucks and we’ve missed out. But a lot of (most?) people can’t even do those things anyway, but we because follow billionaires Instagrams we get annoyed we have kids instead of yachts. Or something? But yeah, this film is about that. Sort of.What would you put on your Baby Bucket List? I’ve been lucky that I had a few things I always wanted to do in my life and I’ve managed to do them. Not to sit here and chat about the cool s t I’ve been lucky enough to do, but I always wanted to swim with great whites, skydive, and bungee jump, and I’ve managed to do all three, the latter of which was achieved on this film! I’ve been trying to think in lockdown what I’ll do when we’re allowed out. It’s quite basic: Go out and see people. Go to a pub. An arcade? Play football. I’ve always wanted to go watch England play Ashes cricket in Australia. I suppose that’s a dream. Yeah, I could try to do that. I want to see Leeds play in the Premier League. They’re back there now played 20-odd games and nobody can go. That’s rubbish, so I’d like to go watch them when we’re allowed.Baby Done is available to rent or buy on VOD.

2. 公平游戏环境
Just when you thought that the DC Extended Universe was sunk, that not even Wonder Woman could save it, here comes Aquaman. With Jason Momoa reprising his role as the Atlantean superhero, James Wan’s partly underwater adventure is a blast, according to the first wave of critical reactions flooding social media. It’s apparently nuts in a good way, with spectacular visuals, and you’re going to want to see it in theaters. Here’s what the critics are saying:So Aquaman is good?Aquaman is a buckwild movie… it’s completely unafraid to just go for it. Meg Downey, CBRIt’s unabashedly melodramatic and over the top with the largest, most ambitious sense of scale imaginable. Germain Lussier, io9Wait, those are good things? It’s so inherently bonkers that you’d have to be an utter killjoy to not get caught up in it.  Jim Vejvoda, IGN MoviesJames Wan has made an unapologetically bold superhero flick, mixing adventure and fantasy elements with stunning visual effects.  Carly Lane, SyFy WireIt’s a good adventure movie that acknowledges exactly what it is from the start, which is a meal made almost entirely of ham.  Spencer Perry, ComingSoon.net(Photo by Warner Bros.)So it s fun, then?Goofy in spots, but it s rollicking fun. Sean O Connell, CinemaBlendIt’s at its best when it’s having fun and not taking itself too seriously. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmAmbitious, campy and so much fun. Scott Menzel, We Live EntertainmentHow does it look?Aquaman is breathtakingly beautiful.  Andrew Dyce, ScreenRantJames Wan and company put a lot of care into designing this corner of the DCEU. Atlantis looks gorgeous. Mike Cecchini, Den of GeekIt is a relentless visual spectacle that knows what it is and doesn’t hold back. Scott Menzel, We Live EntertainmentWhere does it rank among DC movies?Aquaman is the best DC movie since The Dark Knight. Tom Jorgensen, IGN Movies2nd best DCU movie. YEEEAAHH! Germain Lussier, io9It’s definitely one of the best DC Universe movies thus far. Dorian Parks, Geeks of Color(Photo by Warner Bros.)What does this film do for the DCEU?It s another step in the right direction for the DCEU and shows how different/distinct the tones of these movies can be while still existing together. Mike Cecchini, Den of GeekA great step for the DCEU. Eric Eisenberg, CinemaBlendWB should be handing the DCEU reins to James Wan, he s proven he can, ahem, right the ship. Tom Jorgensen, IGN MoviesHow is Jason Momoa? It [has] a great hero arc/performance from Jason Momoa. Eric Eisenberg, CinemaBlend[Has] a terrific lead in Jason Momoa (who s clearly having the time of his life).  Carly Lane, SyFy WireAnd his chemistry with Amber Heard?Jason Momoa and Amber Heard are fantastic together, both bringing a ton of humor.  Jimmy O, JoBlo s Movie EmporiumAmber Heard and Jason Momoa are great together. They bounce off each other with such ease. Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment(Photo by Warner Bros.)Does it have a villain problem?Black Manta is great villain that comic book fans will love. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmBlack Manta was a dope villain and his suit looked incredible. I just wish he got a bit more love. Dorian Parks, Geeks of ColorDescribe the movie in a nutshell.Feels like a Marvel phase one movie, in a good way. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmImagine 80s Schwarzenegger starring in Hideo Kojima’s Avatar and you re most of the way there. Andrew Dyce, ScreenRantAquaman is like an 80s cartoon, with all of the fun and the problems that come with that. Spencer Perry, ComingSoon.netDid it surprise you?Aquaman is better than expected. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmAgainst all odds, I really dug Aquaman, which offers thrills chills and a whole lotta adventure for the whole family!” . Scott Wampler, Birth.Movies.Death.It was exactly what I was hoping for and I can t wait to see it again! Jenna Busch, Legion of Leia(Photo by Warner Bros.)Does it get better as it goes?Second half s one cheer/laugh after another. Andrew Dyce, ScreenRantThird act battle that doesn’t devolve into the typical comic book movie blah trap, and is surprisingly ambitious. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmAre there no complaints?Parts of it are kind of bad but they are not the majority and, oddly, still fit in with the cartoony tone. Germain Lussier, io9A lot of the aspects I didn’t like can probably be traced back to decisions Snyder made that were inherited by Wan. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmIt s flawed, but fun. Mike Rougeau, GameSpotSeriously, though, it s good? It’s one terrific adventure. Jimmy O, JoBlo s Movie EmporiumAn absolute blast. 3.84.9 5月喜迎This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Borat 2, Freaky, and He s All That. This WEEK S TOP STORYSECRET BORAT SEQUEL ALREADY FILMED VERY NICE?(Photo by ©20th Century Fox courtesy Everett Collection)Most of the film industry operates according to a well-publicized pipeline of long-term development deals, casting announcements, and release dates, often months or years in advance. Because of that, it s rare that a movie can be filmed in any sort of cloud of secrecy, though it has happened, even for sequels to major box office hits. The latter scenario is particularly relevant this week, as it has been revealed that British comic actor Sacha Baron Cohen has apparently secretly filmed a sequel to his 2006 hit comedy Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan ( Certified Fresh at 91% ), which earned over a quarter of a billion dollars worldwide from a budget of just million. Social media reports earlier this summer first hinted that Cohen was up to something with his Borat character, and reportedly, Cohen has already started screening the sequel for industry insiders. Although there has been no official announcement just yet, the rumor is that in the sequel, Borat is now world famous, so he has to go undercover as other characters, which means the comedy is basically Cohen-as-Borat-as-Cohen s other characters. The Borat sequel does not currently have an official distributor (so we don t know if it will be theatrical, streaming, or otherwise), and therefore, there s also no release date. We also don t know if Sacha Baron Cohen will have any celebrity co-stars in the sequel.Other Top Headlines1. NEW RULES ANNOUNCED FOR THE ACADEMY AWARDS(Photo by Getty Images)It has now been five years since the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag first became viral. Since then, the Academy has gone through a series of moves to increase diversity, which has included inviting new members who as a group have more diverse backgrounds. This week, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences unveiled their next change, which is a set of rules for the Best Picture category that will take effect in 2024. As of that year, a feature film will need to meet qualification in two of the following four categories: #1 On-Screen Representation, Themes and Narratives; #2 Creative Leadership and Project Team; #3 Industry Access and Opportunities; and #4 Audience Development. Broadly, the first two criteria apply to the actual film, and the second two can be met by the studio or production company that make the movie. There has been some concern online that recent nominees like The Irishman or 1917 might have been challenged by these new rules, but in both cases (and many others), it s likely that the studios would have qualified under the third or fourth categories (especially by 2024). It s also important to point out that these criteria only apply to Best Picture, so a film could potentially be nominated in other categories without matching these specific new rules. Also this week, a recent study of the top box office hits from the last few years reportedly shows that straight, white men still dominate the film industry.2. WONDER WOMAN 1984 DELAYED AGAIN, CANDYMAN POSTPONED TO 2021(Photo by Warner Bros.)The COVID-19 pandemic has obviously delayed almost all feature films that were scheduled for release in the summer of 2020 (which had a domino effect through the rest of the ear). One of those films was Wonder Woman 1984, starring Gal Gadot, which had already been rescheduled months before the pandemic even began. The film was first announced for two different dates in late 2019 (December 13 and then November 1), before being delayed six months to June 5, 2020. The pandemic pushed that date first to August 14, 2020 and then most recently to October 2, 2020. Finally and most recently, Warner Bros announced that Wonder Woman 1984 will now come out theatrically on December 25, 2020, just a week after Dune (also distributed by Warner Bros.) comes out on December 18, 2020. Although there was some speculation that the move was a reaction to the disappointing box office of Tenet, an inside source told Collider that it was not a factor in their decision. Instead, Warner Bros. appears to be reacting to about 35% of the screens in the United States still being closed. Other movies currently scheduled for late December, 2020 include the comedy sequels Coming 2 America and The Croods: A New Age, and Stephen Spielberg s West Side Story remake. Additionally, the Jordan Peele-produced horror reboot Candyman announced late on Friday afternoon that it will also abandon its October release date (on the 16th, to be specific) and instead opt to open in 2021, though a new date has not been set.3. NEVE CAMPBELL OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED TO RETURN IN SCREAM 5(Photo by Phil Bray/©Dimension Films courtesy Everett Collection)Soon after we learned that the creative team behind last year s Ready or Not (Certified Fresh at 88%) would be taking on the long-in-development horror sequel Scream 5, one of the first names to be mentioned was Neve Campbell as franchise regular Sidney Prescott. Although both David Arquette and Courteney Cox were also announced earlier this year as returning, both times, Campbell was described as still being in talks, which led some to question whether she would return at all. After all of that trepidation, Spyglass and Paramount did announce yesterday that Neve Campbell is indeed signed to return as Sidney Prescott in Scream 5. Campbell, Cox, and Arquette will be joined by several franchise newcomers, including Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Kyle Gallner, Mason Gooding, Mikey Madison, Dylan Minnette, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, and Marley Shelton. Savvy horror fans can probably already start guessing who among the young ensemble cast will be the film s victims, the new final girl (or boy), the Ghostface Killer, and probably one or two red herrings as well. Because, twists. Scream 5 is currently scheduled for release on January 14, 2022.4. ANNE HATHAWAY TO STAR IN PANDEMIC-ERA ROM-COM LOCKDOWN(Photo by Giles Keyte/Focus Features)As the world honors the tragedy of 9/11 on this 19th anniversary, one might remember that it led to a wave of film and TV projects that collectively are now called post-9/11. Coincidentally, we are absolutely in the middle of seeing the same thing happening with the COVID-19 pandemic, with the horror film Host (Fresh at 100%) and Michael Bay s upcoming film Songbird, which was one of the first films to return to production this year. Director Doug Liman made the news earlier this year, as he will be reuniting with his Edge of Tomorrow star Tom Cruise for what promises to be the first feature film actually filmed (partially) in outer space, but before that happens, Liman is now set to direct Anne Hathaway in a low budget (less than million) heist movie/romantic comedy called Lockdown, to start filming in London later this month. No premise has been announced yet, but one has to assume from its title that it probably involves a heist during the pandemic. Just a hunch.5. HARRY STYLES JOINS FLORENCE PUGH IN DON T WORRY, DARLING (Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)It will be a few years (at least) before we ever see the results of this year s announcement that Booksmart (Certified Fresh at 96%) director Olivia Wilde will be directing a Marvel movie for Sony (speculated to be Spider-Woman), but in the meantime, Wilde is keeping the scope of her second film closer to the real world, or at least a version of the 1950s. Florence Pugh (Midsommar, Black Widow) will star in Don t Worry, Darling as a 1950s unhappy housewife who slowly begins to question her own sanity when she starts to notice strange occurrences in her small, utopian community in the California desert. Her husband was to have been played by Shia LaBeouf, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, so her character s husband will be played by Harry Styles instead. In addition to co-starring in Dunkirk, Styles has been eyeing several roles in the last few years (including Disney s The Little Mermaid), but it appears that Don t Worry, Darling will succeed in wooing him. The film s other co-stars will include Dakota Johnson, Chris Pine, and Wilde herself.6. TIKTOK SENSATION TO STAR IN SHE S ALL THAT REMAKE (Photo by Miramax)Nowadays, Rachael Leigh Cook mostly stays busy with her Vineyard movies on the Hallmark Channel, but in the 1990s and early 2000s, she was one of the most successful young female movie stars, and one of her most recognized roles came in the 1999 hit She s All That (Rotten at  41%), co-starring Freddie Prinze Jr. It was basically a Pygmalion or My Fair Lady ugly duckling story as a teen rom-com, but that combination proved a successful one. Director Mark Waters (Mean Girls, Freaky Friday) is getting ready to film a gender-reversed remake called He s All That, and TikTok star Addison Rae Easterling will take on what is basically the female version of Prinze s character, as she will be attempting to turn one of her nerdy boy classmates into the school s next prom king. Presumably, the title character will be cast soon, and we can probably expect that some of the parents or teachers will be played by comedy vets (a guess just based on Waters other films).7. HAPPY DEATH DAY DIRECTOR RETURNS WITH FREAKY BODY-SWAPPING COMEDY (Photo by Universal Pictures)One of the weird things about title trademarks is that sometimes they can be applied very broadly, while other times, they are pretty specific. For example, although Walt Disney Pictures absolutely owns the Freaky Friday body-swapping franchise (whether it be Hayley Mills or Lindsay Lohan), they don t own the exclusive rights to the word Freaky (or for that matter, Friday ). So, Universal Pictures and the director of Happy Death Day were able to team up for a body-swapping comedy called Freaky (11/13/2020), which effectively reads as a dark take on Freaky Friday without actually being directly related to it. The twist in Freaky is that instead of mother and daughter, the body swapped pair are a serial killer (Vince Vaughn) and one of his intended victims (Kathryn Newton). The result we seem to see in the first trailer is a serial killer comedy that also sort of brings to mind Rob Schneider s The Hot Chick.8. A TROOP BEVERLY HILLS SEQUEL IS IN THE WORKS(Photo by Columbia Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)Hollywood loves making sequels to 1980s movies almost as it loves remaking 1980s movies. They do, however, have an inherent problem, as there were only so many movies actually made in the 1980s that are available for sequels or remakes. One has to guess that s the best possible explanation for the news this week that someone is now actively developing a sequel to the 1989 Shelley Long kids comedy Troop Beverly Hills (Rotten at 25%). Basically, Shelley Long played a rich lady who decides to become the troop leader of a fictionalized Girl-Scouts-But-We-Can t-Call-Them-Girl-Scouts to show that she is a capable adult. Israeli director Oran Zegman will direct the Troop Beverly Hills sequel from a screenplay by television writer Aeysha Carr (Born Again Virgin, Everybody Hates Chris) and Tamara Chestna, who adapted last year s After (Rotten at 19%), and speaking of which 9. AFTER SEQUELS ALREADY IN THE WORKS BEFORE SECOND MOVIE EVEN RELEASED (Photo by Quantrell D. Colbert/©Aviron Pictures)One of the most lucrative movie trends of the 2010s decades was the young adult franchise, during which every studio did their best to imitate the success of the Harry Potter franchise. Part of the reason why these movies were so profitable was that they could be produced affordably, but that also led to a glut in the marketplace, which possibly combined with audience preference shifts meant that within a decade, the trend was on its last legs. Of course, that doesn t mean that there aren t still young adult movies being made (especially on Netflix now), and one such film was last year s After (Rotten at 19%), based on the 2014 novel that reportedly began as a fan-fiction novel inspired by the music of Harry Styles and One Direction. The sequel After We Collided only just this week got picked up for distribution on PVOD on October 23, 2020, but already the producers are also developing two more sequels: After We Fell and After Ever After. Josephine Langford and Hero Fiennes Tiffin are expected to reprise their roles in all of them.
In a mirroring of the comic book status quo, a new Hellboy film starring David Harbour as the title character is slated for release on April 12th. Nestled between Shazam! a week earlier and Avengers: Endgame later in the month, the release schedule once again pits Mike Mignola s creation between the big-budget titans of the Big Two comic book publishing companies. And as Mignola told Rotten Tomatoes Thursday night, Hellboy fans are going to see Hellboy. It s the same attitude that kept the Hellboy comics alive and kicking against the forces of evil for 25 years.Nonetheless, Lionsgate released a new red band trailer full of new material to entice audiences with a mix of humor, dark visions, and blood-splatter. They also invited us to see the trailer and briefly talk with Mignola and star Milla Jovovich, who could not be more excited for the film. I thought it was amazing, she said, revealing she has seen the finished film. It s so sweet. I don t want to use the word cute, but David is so adorable. You come off very well, also, added Mignola.Their insights helped us take a good look at the trailer and glean some interesting things about the film and how it is differs from the comic book and the earlier Hellboy films. Here are five things we learned.Hellboy s Origin Is Teased Throughout(Photo by Lionsgate)The trailer opens with another telling of Hellboy s origin. Summoned by Rasputin and his Nazi allies near the end of World War II, Hellboy came to Earth as the intended destroyer of worlds. But when Trevor Bruttenholm (Ian McShane) and the US Army arrived on site, they found an adorable demon child. Bruttenholm decided to raise the lad himself, leading to the creation of the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (or BPRD). Though covered in great detail in the first Hellboy film, it is an important detail referenced in just about every long-form Hellboy story. And if you re an avid watcher of Guillermo del Toro s Hellboy, you ll notice certain differences in the new film s telling of the character s arrival on Earth. [Director Neil Marshall] wanted to do his version [of the origin], said Mignola. He also mentioned scenes of Hellboy s early days will be sprinkled throughout the film, as opposed to the way del Toro opened his film with Hellboy s arrival. He did not, however, confirm the presence of pancakes a key moment in Hellboy s development fans definitely want to see on screen. The Film Introduces A New Set Of Characters(Photo by Summit Entertainment)One thing fans will notice immediately is the lack of certain key characters like Abe Sapien (played by Doug Jones in the del Toro films), Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), and Johann Krauss (voiced by Seth MacFarlane in Hellboy II: The Golden Army). It was a conscious decision from the moment it was decided to reboot the film series instead of soldiering on with a del Toro-less Hellboy III. And once the choice was made, Mignola felt it was important not to repeat too many ideas from the earlier cycle.Instead, the film introduces Ben Daimio (Daniel Dae Kim), a stalwart BPRD character despite a certain affliction. As seen in the trailer, he can go from man to were-jaguar with just a hit or two from Hellboy s Red Right Hand an ability that will definitely come in handy when they fight that rhinoceros creature. We also get a few glimpses of Sasha Lane s Alice Monaghan in the trailer. Introduced in the classic Hellboy story The Corpse, she has mysterious connections to the fairy realm that ultimately allow her to become its queen. But for the purposes of the film, she is Hellboy s traveling companion and not his love interest, as Lane noted at New York Comic Con last year. And it is always possible she will fulfill her destiny by the film s conclusion.(Photo by Lionsgate)The Baba Yaga, glimpsed in her chicken-legged house, has a long history with Hellboy. Hopefully some of it will be touched upon as she was an early advocate of the wave of destruction Hellboy is supposed to bring upon the world.Another character introduced in the trailer is Lady Hatton (Sophie Okonedo). In the comics, she is a member of the Osiris Club and yet another person excited for Hellboy to embrace his destiny which includes him fulfilling the prophecy of King Arthur s return to England. It is, of course, unclear how closely the film s version of Lady Hatton will skew to the comics, but considering she is seen telling Hellboy about his origins, we re going to guess she is interested in his destiny. And while Thomas Haden Church is reportedly set to play 1940s adventurer Lobster Johnson, Mignola declined to confirm his presence, saying instead that more Hellboy films means more chances for the fan-favorite character to make his debut. It Follows The Wild Hunt Story From The Comics(Photo by Lionsgate)The film is primarily based on the 2008-2009 story The Wild Hunt. In it, an unemployed Hellboy answers an invitation to join a group of British nobleman known as The Wild Hunt glimpsed in the trailer as the people riding on horseback with Hellboy who immediately betray his trust because, as they put it, the devil shall never sit on the throne of England. Meanwhile, the death of the Irish Fairy king leaves the Fairy folk anxious about the resurrection of the Blood Queen Nimue. Once she rises, she will lead the folk into a war against Hellboy and the world. Also, that bit of business about Hellboy s connection to King Arthur? It could either save the world or lead Hellboy to embrace his destiny.Considering the prominent shot of Hellboy picking up a sword and it bursting into flames, we re going to assume that aspect of the storyline will be part of the film. In the comic book, he is faced with the choice to take hold of Excalibur. According to Mignola, There s an arc that mimics the comic. But as he explained, Marshall wanted to add aspects of other tales as well. Del Toro did the same thing incorporating much of The Corpse into the first Hellboy, but deleting Alice s role in it. This is why Bruttenholm, long dead by the time of The Wild Hunt in the comics, appears in the film. And as The Wild Hunt ends on something of a stalemate, elements from the subsequent tales, The Storm and The Fury, will no doubt help the film reach a more final conclusion. We also expect some of Daimio s backstory, explored in the BPRD comic books, will factor in as well.Nimue Is Not A Clear-Cut Villain (Maybe)(Photo by Lionsgate)If there is one thing Jovovich is sure of about Nimue, it is that she started from a good place. She was a witch in Arthur s day who became involved with the wizard Merlin. She eventually learned all of his secrets and imprisoned him. Fearing her power, the other witches of the day murdered her. At least, that s how it went down in the comics. Jovovich would not confirm anything about Nimue s past in the film except that she was betrayed, but she did offer this appraisal of her character: She s the only sane person in this movie. From the trailer, we get the sense that her grudge is with England itself Bruttenholm says as much which would suggest Arthur and his descendants would be prime targets. But it is also clear she adores Hellboy. Then again, who wouldn t? He s muscley, red, and fated to end the world. Not that Hellboy is interested in any of her ambitions, but at least it will lead to some cool, apocalyptic scenes.London Gets Trashed(Photo by Lionsgate)While neither Mignola nor Jovovich spoke to this point, we can t help but notice the damage London takes throughout the trailer. A hellacious storm brews above the city skies and a creature which may or may not be Nimue herself demolishes the Tower Bridge. Hellboy comics typically avoid that level of destruction Mignola leaves that to the BPRD spin0ff series but it is nice to see some big stakes realized, even if Hellboy quips that they are not relatable. Then there s that shot late in the trailer of Hellboy riding a dragon across a hellish landscape. The river of fire sure looks like the course of the Thames to us. But as Hellboy fans know, any shot of the character with his horns and crown is probably a prophetic vision and not reality. But it is always possible Nimue will tempt him into embracing his apocalyptic destiny. Or, alternatively, the capital of Hell looks just like London.Hellboy opens everywhere on April 12.Like this? Ryan Fujitani for Rotten Tomatoes: You have this reputation for being one of the nicest people in Hollywood, but that s gotta be tiring, isn t it? Is it difficult for you, just having everyone sort of expect you to be the most charming person they ve ever met?Hugh Jackman: [laughs] No. What you ve got to understand is most people assume people in movies are dicks, and arrogant, and expect everything. And I actually think I m being a slightly watered down version of the way I was brought up, as in my parents would expect me to be nicer, more polite, more appreciative, never allow anyone to do anything for me. So I kind of get away with it, I think, in a way. People go, Wow. I always feel what they re saying is, For a movie star, you re kind of nice. RT: It s not, He s a nice guy. It s, He s a nice guy for a movie star. Jackman: For a movie star. Exactly. Like, people say to me, Oh, that was so sweet. You remembered my name. And I m just like, You just told me three seconds ago. You know? Anyway If you re a parent, you go up and you say, Oh, hello, Mrs. Lacey. And they say, Oh, you remembered my name.  And it s like, Yeah. I m looking after your stinking kid all this time. Of course you remember my name. RT: So that works to your advantage.Jackman: Oh, totally. Expectations are low. Easy to deliver.RT: Well, so far, you re a pretty nice guy for an actor.Jackman: Right, thanks man. For an actor. [laughs]RT: So, let s talk about The Front Runner. Obviously the Gary Hart story was a big one here in the States when it happened, but I m wondering how much of it you were aware of before you took on the role.Jackman: Oh, I really was not aware. In fact, I was like most people. Most people would say to me, Oh, yeah, Gary Hart. Monkey business? What was the name? And, Didn t he tell them to follow him around? And it would usually happen in that order. I was probably I would know even less than that. I didn t know the follow me around. I think I d heard of Monkey Business.I think what s really interesting about this film Jason s highlighted something that s been pretty much forgotten. It feels like a blip in terms of political history, right? But actually, when you look at that moment, you really get an idea of how and why we got to where we are today. And I think that s what makes Jason such a great storyteller. And also, I m proud of the way he kind of treats everybody in the movie, and every character, and someone who might ve been, What was her name, that girl on the boat? You know? But by the end, you really feel and understand and empathize with her story as much as the woman at the Washington Post, or the campaign worker who has to take care of Donna. You see it from so many perspectives.RT: And the actors playing all of those characters. It s a fantastic cast you re working with in this film.Jackman: Oh yeah, a phenomenal cast. And Jason had this technique which was really interesting. He really wanted a very believable atmosphere. He used to grab extras. So I d be doing a scene, and an extra would be He would just say, I want you to go and interrupt, and I want you to go and do this, and so they would just come in and interrupt. We d have to deal with it.When we did the press conference [scene], we didn t know what order the questions were going to come in. They were just sort of being fired. He just said, Can you see that? He would point they were all in there, and I wasn t allowed to go in. We re peeking through the door, and he says, Can you see that white cross on the floor? And I said, Yeah. And he goes, If you stand around there, and go for it. I m like, Like now? Like go? And he goes, Yeah. So we just sort of walked in. So it was really interesting what he did.RT: The film paints a complex portrait of Gary Hart, because it builds him up as this superstar candidate, but it doesn t shy away from his faults. It must have been a challenge to portray someone who is so charismatic and charming and seemingly upstanding, but also has these big gaping flaws, because you had to show how he was so likable at the same time that he was, in a sense, morally compromised. How did you strike that balance?Jackman: It was a definite challenge for me on many levels because I m more of an open book. We ve only spoken for ten minutes. A lot of the characters I play have their heart beating out of their chest, and this is someone who will allow you close. He is very charismatic and enigmatic some people called him elusive. He was hard to get to know. He would let you get close to a point, but then not, and he never really felt comfortable personally letting everybody in. It just wasn t his personality, nor did he think that was important for the job he was going for, and thought it was distracting. He thought about things very, very differently than any other politician, and this is really the turning point. After this point, it s very clear to every political candidate that there is your personality, your ability or willingness to entertain, to be an entertainer, is part of the process. There was a reason why, I think, Clinton played saxophone on Arsenio Hall, whereas that wasn t happening before. Things certainly did change in this era, and I think the challenge for me was having the restraint to not let people in fully, because that is my instinct.Of course, I had to have that inner life, and you needed to see that, but there s moments of kindness, which are actually true. Like on the plane to the reporter who was going through that fright with a fear of flying.RT: That was a real thing that happened?Jackman: Yeah, that actually happened. Yeah, you know, he would hand books to people, and he would buy drinks for the press. But, at the same time, you never really fully felt that you got to know every part of him, and that was the challenge. It was a big challenge for me, and I really relied and leaned heavily on Jason for that.RT: You touched on this already, but while this film is certainly about the rise and fall of Gary Hart, it s clearly also about how journalism and especially political journalism changed at the time, particularly with respect to the privacy of candidates running for office. I think the film lets the audience decide where they stand, between the press should be free and candidates deserve their privacy. Where do you stand on that?Jackman: Look, it s a far more important job than probably anything else out there, so I do understand that people need to feel like they know the character of all these candidates. I learned this this is a new world prior to 1970, there was no primary system. So now you re expecting everyone around the country to judge 12 people that are running for a Republican ticket. So there is a responsibility of the press to get to know these people, and to let us know. You don t have time to do it.I think the question more for rather than putting it all on the press, and it s the press s job, and have they gone too far or not, I think if we as voters or citizens, whichever country we re at, have a very strong sense of what is important to us, what do we need to know, because that is different for everybody. And I don t judge it, the film doesn t judge it. Some people will judge a person on how they are in their marriage, you know? I m not, except for the person I m married to, but that s not me. But I do judge someone s character. I want to know that they are smart enough to see problems that I can t see coming, and that they have the conviction to follow through on what they say they re going to do. So that is a character judgment. So on some level, I do want to know them. I would like that to be uncovered. I don t need to know if they wear boxers or briefs, or their dog s name, whether they played piano in school, or what their girlfriend s name is, or whether they smoke marijuana. I don t really care about that. But that s different for everybody.RT: Before we go, I feel like I have to ask this. There s obviously been a lot of talk about the whole Disney-Fox deal and the fact that Bob Iger confirmed that Marvel s Kevin Feige will be the new caretaker of the X-Men franchise. If and I know this is a big if at some point, if they figure out a way to incorporate the X-Men into the existing Marvel Cinematic Universe, and they come knocking on your door, would you be willing to come back in some capacity, whether big or small?Jackman: Now, in terms of opening windows, you just left a crack so small. Like, Would you like to just smell what is going on in the room? I love what you did there. For many, many years, I often thought how cool would it be to have Wolverine in a scene with Iron Man, or Hulk, particularly Hulk, and all of that. I totally get that. It frustrated me that that was not And I, for many years, thought that that was an impossibility. But, mate, I think the ship has sailed. You know, when you get into a party, you leave the party, all is good. You re in the cab. You re just about to get home, and someone goes, You ve got to come back, dude. Such-and-such has turned up, and you go, You know what? I m going to bed. The Front Runner opens in limited release on November 7.

60 Essential Adventure MoviesThe adventure is one of the hardest kinds of movie to define, but like certain other genres:  You know it when you see it. Adventures are grand, exciting, and often epic tales, usually focused on people on a mission, whose purposes include fame, fortune, and glory. The best adventure movies can run on the thrill of exploration and discovery, treading deep into jungles, stalking across arid deserts, or sailing across open oceans. The casts of characters feature rambunctious pirates, lordly counts, mercenaries and bounty hunters, big whales, and even bigger apes. And adventure movies can invite their other genre buddies along for the ride, too, including fantasy and science-fiction.Now we re embarking on our own journey, plundering gem after gem for a guide to what we re calling the essential adventure movies if you love the genre. Listing these best adventure movies in chronological order, we begin a century in the past, when the adventure genre was defined by the swashbucklers of Captain Blood and The Three Musketeers. At the same time, the fantastical elements introduced in King Kong and Wizard of Oz marked adventure movies as the spot to introduce the latest in dazzling special effects. After World War II, the adventure genre entered its prestige era, with historical epics like Lawrence of Arabia and The Man Who Would Be King, and tales of derring-do in The African Queen and The Great Escape. Here it should be said there is a certain Western-centric viewpoint that cannot be denied as inherent to many adventure movies, one that others different countries and cultures. And hopefully what elevates these movies above that are their swaggering sense of playful optimism and lighthearted fun. That s certainly evident in Raiders of the Lost Ark, whose retro serial action and intrigue established the adventure formula for a new generation, which marched on through Indiana Jones sequels, Romancing the Stone, National Treasure, and The Mummy. During the same 80s Indy decade, the adventure genre opened itself back up to sci-fi and fantasy, along with spotlighting younger protagonists, leading to The Goonies, The NeverEnding Story, Labyrinth, and more.Around the turn of the century, the adventure movie successfully aided the resurrection of other genres that common Hollywood wisdom had deemed box office poison: swashbucklers (The Mask of Zorro), high fantasy (The Lord of the Rings), and even the pirate movie (Pirates of the Caribbean), which had been sent to Davy Jones Locker after Cutthroat Island sank Carolco Pictures. And since 2012 s Life of Pi, there s been another adventure resurgence with The Jungle Book and more Kong and Jumanji movies. Now, continue on and discover the 60 best adventure movies to watch now!
The Fox serial-killer procedural drama, Prodigal Son, already had one Welsh actor headlining is cast: Michael Sheen plays Martin Whitly, a former skilled doctor who is now imprisoned at the Claremont Psychiatric Hospital because he was also skilled as a repeat murderer (his nickname was, of course, The Surgeon ).The show just welcomed another Welsh talent when Oscar winner Catherine Zeta-Jones (Chicago) joined the cast as a series regular with the March 2 episode. Zeta-Jones, whose credits also include playing Olivia de Havilland in FX s Feud: Bette and Joan, explained her interest in the part during the first of Fox s two winter Television Critics Association press days. The all-virtual press days also included panels for The Moodys, The Great North, and The Masked Singer.TOP STORYProdigal Son s Catherine Zeta-Jones on Questioning Her Character s Motives(Photo by Phil Caruso/FOX)Zeta-Jones plays Dr. Vivian Capshaw, a doctor at the medical facility that houses Martin, whose son, Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), is a criminal profiler who consults for the NYPD and taps into his father s unique perspective to help solve crimes. The actress told journalists that she signed on to be a series regular on Prodigal Son the same day that she watched Whoopi Goldberg praise the Fox drama on The View. She said she was particularly interested in her character s motivations. I knew that there was a fundamental interest [and] intrigue, Zeta-Jones said, explaining that the question became Why is she in the Claremont Psychiatric Facility? What got her there? She should have surely known who The Surgeon was [and] admired him from afar and now she’s sequestered in the bowels of this facility with that very person. And it was intriguing to me, she said. The series is one of several new and returning shows that deal with serial killers, be it Showtime s revival of Dexter or CBS s Clarice — and not to mention all the true-crime documentaries and podcasts about murder. So what makes people interested in something so gruesome?Co-creator Chris Fedak told journalists that I think that it speaks to the age we live in. We live in dark and seemingly scary times. He added that, I think, for our show, the way we come at it is we look at it as a family show. We also have a sense of humor. We have this incredible cast that’s really charming and fun, and so, deep down, it’s also a comedy. So, in some ways, it’s a bunch of different things coming together. Prodigal Son airs Tuesdays on Fox.The Game Has Changed in The Masked Singer Season 5(Photo by Michael Becker/FOX)Fox s smash-hit The Masked Singer returns for a fifth season on March 10. And, in the name of keeping things fresh, there will be some changes to the celebrity-studded singing competition. For one, this season will introduce wild card performers, who will appear at the end of an episode on the chance that they might take a current contestant s place. Executive producer Craig Plestis told journalists that, like other competitors, these new entrants will come with story packages and clues as to who they really are. It just adds freshness to the whole show and it just grooms a whole new life to the series, Plestis said. So, we are really excited by it. And I think, honestly, the viewer is going to connect with some of them, and it s really just an amazing format. Another change? Niecy Nash will be temporarily taking over hosting duties from Nick Cannon, with Cannon returning toward the end of the season. All the judges praised Nash s dedication during the TCA panel, with Nicole Scherzinger saying Niecy is the boss. She s a queen. She s so fast but fun, relatable. The Masked Singer season 5 premieres March 10 on Fox.The Great North Casting Is Not Ironic(Photo by FOX)The Great North, the new animated Fox series from sisters and Bob s Burgers executive producers Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin and Wendy Molyneux, focuses on a single dad (Nick Offerman’s Beef Tobin) and his offspring living it up in the Alaskan wilderness. It also happens to star musician Alanis Morissette as herself — well, a version of herself who is the imaginary friend of Jenny Slate’s teen-aged Judy and who appears to her via the Aurora Borealis. Alanis was always our dream for Judy’s friend. We wrote her in in the hopes that she would do it. I think, from our end, we’d hope she would be into it, Molyneux-Logelin said while her sister joked that there is no backup plan and you can’t send it to Jeremy Irons. The show is also striving for authenticity when it comes to depicting people indigenous to the area. Our casting department reached out to Alaskan community; Alaskan Native actors living in Alaska, when the started the project, said Molyneux.Dulcé Sloan, who plays Honeybee Shaw — the fiancé of eldest son Wolf (Will Forte) — added that the producers seek out her input for how her character should react and look situations (such as the fact that her character would have a head scarf on while she was in bed).“I think sometimes when you’re a person of color that’s in a predominantly white show or white area, I think sometimes white people try to make you comfortable by acknowledging your race all the time, Sloan said. Honeybee’s not there because she’s Black. She’s there because her and Wolf love each other. I do like that they do acknowledge her family and they do talk about her family. But at the end of the day, she’s in love and she’s getting married. Plus, she added, her character met somebody on the Internet and it worked and she didn’t get murdered. And, much like Bob s, the series is very family-centric. It’s a very wholesome and kind show, said co-star Paul Rust, who voices middle son Ham. And the other benefit is that there are no celebrity pot-shot lines. So I don’t have to worry about, like, bumping into Ray Liotta and having him be mad at me. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premiered Monday night to a crowd of celebrities and critics, and if you thought Star Wars: The Last Jedi was divisive, wait until you see the first reactions to this one. Actually, much of the disagreement on the new movie, which concludes the primary narrative of the franchise, stems from opinions on the previous installment. Still, even the more disappointed have some positive things to say about old and new characters. As for those who love the latest episode, they really love how returning director J.J. Abrams wrapped things up. Here’s what critics are saying about the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker:Is it a worthy end to the Skywalker Saga?OH MY GOD! I am absolutely blown away! I’ve never been so satisfied by a film… This did [the franchise] justice in a way I didn’t imagine it could. Jenna Busch, Legion of LeiaIt’s an immensely satisfying and MASSIVE end to the saga. Rob Keyes, ScreenRantStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is TRULY a satisfying conclusion to the saga. It answers practically everything you want to know and more. Mansoor Mithaiwala, ScreenRantJ.J. Abrams nailed it. He was able to bring a cohesive arc to this trilogy that feels like a fitting end to the saga as a whole. Star Wars fans will be very happy. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmAnd how is it as a conclusion to the new trilogy? It is the big adventure, lightsaber adventure I hoped for…a very satisfying end to this new trilogy.  Kristian Harloff, Schmoes KnowIt somehow addresses issues, problematic characters, and most unanswered questions from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.  Rob Keyes, ScreenRantI had some issues with The Last Jedi. This movie fixes most of my problems and creates a cohesive story… For me, in the new trilogy, it’s #2.  Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmThe WEIRDEST trilogy of films I ve seen in my lifetime. None of them fit, and they all seem to actively dislike each other. Truly, head-scratchingly bizarre.  Sean O Connell, CinemaBlendIt didn’t work for me, but fans of Force Awakens are going to love it.  Scott Menzel, We Live Entertainment(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)And compared to The Last Jedi? It’s amazing. Last Jedi haters will be very pleased. Ryan Parker, Hollywood ReporterIf you LOVE LOVE Star Wars: The Last Jedi, you may have some issues with The Rise of Skywalker. Rob Keyes, ScreenRantIf you loved The Last Jedi, I have some bad news for you. If you didn’t, then you might be pretty stoked. Joanna Robinson, Vanity FairBottom line: If you like Last Jedi, you probably won t like The Rise of Skywalker. If you didn t like Last Jedi, you ll love this. Mansoor Mithaiwala, ScreenRantIt felt like an apology for The Last Jedi in some ways and a sequel to The Force Awakens in many, which I found frustrating. Terri Schwartz, IGNSome choices feel like an unnecessary course-correct from The Last Jedi and some just plain don’t make sense. Laura Prudom, IGNThe Rise of Skywalker could only have been ruder to Rian Johnson if they had motion-smoothed it. Kyle Buchanan, New York TimesWill die-hard fans apreciate it?Full of the right kind of fan service. Dan Casey, NerdistThrives on moments designed for big fans. There’s a lot of cause for cheer throughout and they went for some really big ideas. Brandon Davis, ComicBook.comHas some great surprises in store for fans that will make you gasp and cheer. Scott Chitwood, ComingSoon.netLOTS of emotional fan service… Yes, all of your questions are answered if not immediately off the bat. Griffin Schiller, The PlaylistAt times I felt too much fan service was given, but The Rise of Skywalker is everything and nothing that you re expecting. Yolanda Machado, The WrapStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has everything you want and more. Which I don’t necessarily think is a good thing. Germain Lussier, io9Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the ultimate Star Wars movie for Star Wars fans who want more of the same. Its 100% fan service and a collective hodgepodge of all Star Wars films combined. Scott Menzel, We Live EntertainmentIn the end, it was Star Wars ‘fans’ that killed Star Wars. Scott Mendelson, Forbes(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)How big of a movie is it?The Rise of Skywalker is a lot. It’s a big, giant movie with a lot of spectacle and high stakes and it’s definitely going to start a conversation. Brandon Davis, ComicBook.comBrings the serial feeling back to Star Wars. A lot happens, there is constant forward momentum. There seems to be a lot for future Expanded Universe to explain. Dave Gonzales, ThrillistCertainly the most convoluted Star Wars… the first half gets so bogged down with exposition and new plot and doodads and beacons and transmitters. Mike Ryan, UproxxI have some quibbles with some of the plot, it gets a bit convoluted but I’m not sure it matters in the end because of the emotional payoff. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmFelt a bit more concerned with plot than character, tad rushed, good not great. Griffin Schiller, The PlaylistI was not expecting a genuinely bad movie with video game plotting, thin characters, weak action and endless exposition of no consequence. Heartbreaking. Scott Mendelson, ForbesSo moviegoers will get their money s worth? The Rise of Skywalker has a ton of content packed into one movie as well and wastes no time. It’s like two Star Wars movies in one. Rob Keyes, ScreenRantIt feels like it should have been three movies on its own. Mike Ryan, UproxxThe Rise of Skywalker is a lot. It’s like nine movies of plot in one. Going to take me about nine days to process. Chris Taylor, MashableHow is the pacing?Man does The Rise of Skywakler MOVE. This film hits the ground running and doesn’t let up. J.J.’s energy is all over this thing. A Last Crusade style adventure. Griffin Schiller, The PlaylistStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits the ground running and rarely lets up. There’s a LOT going on.  Scott Chitwood, ComingSoon.netThe Rise of Skywalker has a bumpy start but finds its footing, and when it does, it flies — especially the third act.  Perri Nemiroff, Collider(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)Will there be any middle ground for fans?I loved parts, I didn’t love others, and I’m leaving the theater very, very conflicted about it. Germain Lussier, io9Overall I would say I liked it but had some big problems with it. Can’t say I loved it but there’s still a lot to unpack. Jim Vejvoda, IGNThere is good in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker. But there is more that is disappointing. There are a number of choices that just don t track, fan service that doesn t work, and ignored details that are missed. I m bummed. Eric Eisenberg, CinemaBlendI will say that I think the more casual of a Star Wars fan you are, the happier you will be. Chris Taylor, MashableWho are the standouts this time? The bromance between Poe and Finn steals the film. Griffin Schiller, The PlaylistThe best thing I can say about Rise of Skywalker is that Daisy Ridley gives her best performance. Gregory Ellwood, The PlaylistLando rules…The Emperor stuff is so weird. Mike Ryan, UproxxAll hail Babu Frick and Zorii Bliss, who are my favorite things from the second they show up. Dave Gonzales, ThrillistI’ll say this I fricking looooove Zorii Bliss and Babu Frick. Love. Joanna Robinson, Vanity FairI wanted to see more of the new characters in The Rise of Skywalker. They were solid additions. Scott Chitwood, ComingSoon.net(Photo by Walt Disney Studios)Will The Rise of Skywalker leave fans in tears? You WILL cry….bring tissues. They stuck the landing. Also, Leia! My entire heart! Jenna Busch, Legion of LeiaWhat a lovely send off for our General Leia. Angie Han, MashableI’m emotional, overwhelmed, surprised, shocked stunned.  More than anything, I’m happy.  Thanks for coming through one more time, Star Wars. Mark Ellis, Schmoes KnowI’m so emotionally drained. Star Wars fans will be very happy. Peter Sciretta, SlashfilmThe emotional highs are spectacular. Laura Prudom, IGNStar Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is in theaters December 19.

AG体育注册 In a mirroring of the comic book status quo, a new Hellboy film starring David Harbour as the title character is slated for release on April 12th. 借着这样的契机,TapTap也开启了一次了不起的尝试:第一次将付费正版手游带给了国内安卓玩家,以1元的特价,将国风独立游戏《说剑》在国内第三方安卓市场上一周卖出去2万份。 Few industries enjoy taking really, really long extended holiday vacations quite like Hollywood, and when we get to this time of the year, there s rarely much in the realm of movie development news to discuss. Last week, we covered the year s biggest Fresh news stories, and this week, we re looking at the ones we deemed most Rotten instead.JANUARY: KEVIN HART PASSES GO, WILL COLLECT (AT LEAST) 0, IN MONOPOLY(Photo by Warner Bros.)Kevin Hart s Tomatometer has been getting better in the last few years, starting with his partnership with Dwayne Johnson in Central Intelligence (which carried into their Jumanji movies), and including his voice role in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (Certified Fresh at 88%). Before 2016, however, his track record mostly carried a broad series of Rotten splotches, with only a few Fresh tomatoes, and most of those were for his comedy concert films. Hart had several new movies announced in 2019 (including Black Friday, Extreme Job, and remakes of Scrooged and Uptown Saturday Night), but it all started in January with the long-in-development board game adaptation of Monopoly. The idea of a movie based on the classic Monopoly board game has been kicking around for over a decade, including a time when Ridley Scott was attached, but the Monopoly movie we ll actually get sounds a drastic switch. Kevin Hart will star in Monopoly for Lionsgate and Hasbro, with his Ride Along director Tim Story also on board.FEBRUARY: BRAD PITT S ZOMBIE FIGHT ENDS WITH SCRAPPING OF WORLD WAR Z SEQUEL   (Photo by Jaap Buitendijk/Paramount Pictures)If you were a big fan of Brad Pitt and director Marc Foster s zombie movie World War Z, February brought some bad news. After years of near-starts and delays, Paramount Pictures finally, apparently definitively, pulled the plug on a World War Z sequel. Pre-production was reportedly already well underway for a six month shoot in Atlanta and other nations around the world, but that also meant the budget exploded to over 0 million, and that was the breaking point for Paramount. Technically, it sounds like World War Z might come back, even with a sequel, in the future, but if it does, it would be with a much lower budget, without Foster directing, and possibly without Brad Pitt as well. [Editor s note: an earlier version listed David Fincher as editor of World War Z. This has been corrected and we regret the error.]MARCH: DISNEY/FOX MERGER LEADS TO SHELVING OF PROMISING X-MEN PROJECTS (Photo by 20th Century Fox Film Corp.)In March, Disney finalized its .3 billion deal to acquire the entertainment assets of the Fox film and TV studios. The deal was widely applauded by Marvel Comics fans who are eager to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters and properties now available for Marvel Studios in their future movies (though probably not until after 2022). However, that also meant that some/many of the projects that Fox had been developing would be shelved, including X-Force, X-23, Kitty Pryde, and Madrox the Multiple Man. We ll never know what those movies might have been like, and it s definitely possible some would have been Rotten (given Fox s record on recent X-Men movies). They re good examples, however, of the wide scope of Marvel movies we would have gotten if Marvel and Sony also had Fox developing movies every year. How long will it take now for Marvel Studios to go deep enough into their catalog to greenlight movies like Kitty Pryde and Madrox the Multiple Man?APRIL: THE BAD MOMS MOMS TO GET THEIR OWN MOVIE(Photo by STX Entertainment)After Bad Moms earned 3 million globally in the summer of 2016, it was followed by the sequel A Bad Moms Christmas in 2017. That second film introduced grandmother characters played by Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon, and in April, we learned that they re going to get their own movie called Bad Moms Moms. It s not yet known if Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, and Mila Kunis will reprise their roles as well, or if the third movie might introduce the next set of older great-grandmas (who could then get their own movie called Bad Moms Moms Moms). Both Bad Moms and A Bad Moms Christmas earned Rotten Tomatometer scores at 58% and 30%, respectively.MAY: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG TRAILER BACKLASH SPARKS REDESIGN (Photo by @ Paramount Pictures)Some of the year s most Rotten stories represent missteps that were eventually corrected, but we are looking at these stories as they were at the time. In this case, Paramount appeared to get the message within the same week, but still, at the time, the reaction was very negative. After all, Paramount Pictures should ve seen this one coming. In April, the first Sonic the Hedgehog trailer debuted, and the collective fan backlash against Sonic s design was even louder this time. (The eyes are too small, the nose is at the wrong angle, and the teeth. Where to even begin on the teeth?) The Sonic the Hedgehog missteps were only accentuated by the timing of the trailer in the same week as the first Pokemon Detective Pikachu reviews, as that film has not one but dozens of video game characters that look pretty much exactly like they do in the games. The good news, however, is that Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler quickly responded on Twitter, The message is loud and clear you aren t happy with the design you want changes. Those changes came later in the year as we got a new Sonic the Hedgehog trailer in which he did indeed look a lot more like he does in the games. Sonic the Hedgehog is now scheduled as a Valentine s release on 2/14/2020.JUNE: SECURITY CAMERAS TO BE HAUNTED AGAIN IN PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 7 (Photo by Paramount Pictures)It s now been over four years since 2015 s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension earned the franchise s lowest box office to date, domestically earning one fifth less than the first film. The Paranormal Activity movies were also relatively affordable to produce, so it was probably inevitable that Paramount Pictures would want to start making them again. Producer Jason Blum (of Blumhouse Productions) is now developing Paranormal Activity 7 for Paramount, although the premise isn t yet known (though it seems obvious that it will probably be another found footage horror film). The Tomatometer scores for the last three films (24%, 39%, and 15%, respectively) don t offer much hope for the next installment, unfortunately. Since this news broke in June, Paramount has scheduled Paranormal Activity 7 for release on March 19, 2021, up against the second Tomb Raider movie starring Alicia Vikander, and the week before The Boss Baby 2.JULY: LOOK WHO S REMAKING LOOK WHO S TALKING(Photo by TriStar Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)One of the oddest examples of movies that ended up getting two sequels to justify it becoming a trilogy might arguably be 1989 s Look Who s Talking (Rotten at 59%), which was followed in 1990 by Look Who s Talking Too (Rotten at 14%), and in 1993 by Look Who s Talking Now (Rotten at 0%). John Travolta and Kirstie Alley starred in those movies about talking babies, and in the third movie, talking dogs. Despite those critical drubbings, Sony Pictures is now developing a Look Who s Talking reboot to be written and directed by Jeremy Garelick, whose 2015 comedy The Wedding Ringer earned a Rotten score at 27%. It s not yet known if Bruce Willis or any of the other voice actors might return for the reboot (but they probably won t).
