1. Bob竞彩
The sight of full-sized adult man Fred Savage tucked into bed, being read a children s story by the world s filthiest superhero not enough reason to watch Once Upon A Deadpool? Then how about the fact your ticket of this PG-13 redo of Deadpool 2 will help in the fight against cancer? Yep, of every ticket purchase will go to Fudge Cancer, the non-profit and charity that promotes prevention and early detection of cancer, and creating support networks for those diagnosed. They ll even take Canadian money! That s how vital this fight is. Learn more, or even donate directly, at Fudge Cancer s site.So even if you ve got a heart as warped as Wade s face, Once Upon A Deadpool is giving you a minimal-effort way to show the world you care! And in this topsy-turvy mixed-up world, isn t pretending to care just as good as actually caring? The answer is no. But give anyways!

This week s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news (the stories about what movies Hollywood is working on for you next), covering such titles as The Batman, Venom, and The Matrix 4.This WEEK S TOP STORYZOE KRAVITZ POUNCES ON CATWOMAN FOR THE BATMAN, PAUL DANO RIDES FOR RIDDLER(Photo by Gregorio T. Binuya/Everett Collection)Going into this week, the only actor that we had heard was in talks to play a villain in The Batman (6/25/2021) was Jonah Hill. Now we have two people confirmed, and none of their names is Jonah. Zoe Kravitz is Catwoman. On Thursday, the news broke that Hill had dropped out of talks to play a Batman villain, potentially because Hill had asked for million, twice what Warner Bros. was paying Robert Pattinson to be Batsy. Whatever his role was, The Riddler is now on the scene, who has signed on Paul Dano. Meanwhile, the search is still on for the third villain: Penguin. In related news, Robert Pattinson also made a surprising revelation this week, saying that his version of The Batman is not a hero.    Other Top Headlines1. MATRIX 4: NEIL PATRICK HARRIS IN, JADA PINKETT-SMITH IN TALKS(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)Last week, we learned that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta from Aquaman) had been cast in a new lead role (AKA not Morpheus, etc.). And this week, we heard about two other possible new additions, plus a returning cast member from the two sequels. Let s start with Jada Pinkett Smith, who is now in talks with Warner Bros to reprise her character Niobe, the ship captain. Jada Pinkett Smith s recent roles have included Bad Moms, Girls Trip, and this summer s Angel Has Fallen. One of the new characters will be played by Neil Patrick Harris; various guesses online include a Mr. agent, the adult Spoonboy, or a younger version of The Architect. The third name in play this week is Jessica Henwick, who is probably best known for playing Colleen Wing in Netflix-Marvel s Iron Fist series. 2. ROBERT EGGERS  VIKING EPIC THE NORTHMAN ATTRACTS THE WITCH AND THE LIGHTHOUSE ALUM(Photo by A24/courtesy Everett Collection)This month s spooky black-and-white drama The Lighthouse is only director Robert Eggers second feature film (after 2015 s The Witch), but already the guy appears to be developing his own regular cast of actors. Eggers next film will be a Viking revenge film set in 10th century Iceland, and stars both previous and new to his troupe have been announced. Let s start with the new: Nicole Kidman and brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgård. The previous: Anya Taylor-Joy and Willem Dafoe. In related news, Willem Dafoe also this week officially joined Guillermo del Toro s Nightmare Alley remake. 3. GAL GADOT TO PRODUCE AND STAR IN WORLD WAR II POLISH UNDERGROUND BIOPIC(Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)It has long been a Hollywood tradition that when movie stars get to a certain status, the opportunity opens up for them to guide their own careersand potentially, those of others) through their own production company. Gal Gadot, whose next major film will be next summer s Wonder Woman 1984, has formed a company with her husband Jaron Varsano called Pilot Wave. The first announced film for the new company will be Irena Sendler, a historical thriller about the life of Polish Underground leader, whom Gal Gadot will also portray. Sendler s organization worked in the Warsaw ghetto of World War II to save over 2,500 Jewish children, among other anti-Nazi efforts.4. JOHN KRASINSKI AND RYAN REYNOLDS TEAMING UP FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS(Photo by Paramount /Courtesy Everett Collection)After two indie films (Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and The Hollars), actor-turned-director John Krasinski had a surprise blockbuster hit with his third film, the sci-fi thriller A Quiet Place (in which he starred with his wife, Emily Blunt). Krasinski quickly moved ahead with a Quiet Place 2 sequel (3/20/2020), but with this week s news, Krasinski appears ready for another original movie. Krasinski will both direct and costar in the comedy Imaginary Friends, with Ryan Reynolds. The high concept comedy will tell the story of a man (Reynolds) with the magical ability to see other adult people s imaginary friends, some of which, lacking love and friendship, turn to the dark side. 5. JURASSIC WORLD 3 RECRUITS NEW STARS FROM SHE S GOTTA HAVE IT AND SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS(Photo by Netflix / courtesy Everett Collection)A few weeks ago, one of the big stories of that week was that original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill were all returning for Jurassic World 3 (6/11/2021). This week, Universal Pictures appeared to be focusing instead on casting new roles. The first announced was Mamoudou Athie, who is probably best known for his role in Facebook Watch s Sorry For Your Loss, as well as in The Get Down and Patti Cake$. Then, earlier today, Variety also reported that DeWanda Wise of Netflix s She s Gotta Have It is now in talks for a leading role. It s not yet known what sort of roles either Athie or Wise will be playing when Jurassic World 3 is released on June 2021, the same month as Micronauts, Sesame Street, and The Batman.6. THE ADDAMS FAMILY SEQUEL ALREADY IN DEVELOPMENT FOLLOWING MILLION OPENING WEEKEND(Photo by MGM / courtesy Everett Collection)MGM probably had ideas in the work for a sequel to The Addams Family far before its release last week, but following its million opening weekend, it s go time. MGM has scheduled The Addams Family 2 for October 22, 2021, which is the weekend after Halloween Ends. It s not yet known if the original voice cast is also signed  to return for the sequel. 7. NAOMIE HARRIS JOINING WOODY HARRELSON S CARNAGE IN VENOM 2 AS SHRIEK(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)We ve known since the ending of Venom that Woody Harrelson would be costarring in next year s Venom 2 (10/2/2020) as the crimson symbiote-powered serial killer Carnage. It wasn t until this week that it was revealed that Tom Hardy s Venom and Woody Harrelson s Carnage would actually be joined by a third symbiote-possessed character,  in the form of the female villain Shriek. Sony Pictures didn t delay much after letting that news out, however, as just before we went to press today, we learned that Shriek will be portrayed by British actress Naomie Harris (Moonlight, Skyfall). 8. DANIEL KALUUYA WANTS TO GIVE THE WORLD A NEW BARNEY THE DINOSAUR MOVIE(Photo by Polygram Filmed Entertainment/courtesy Everett Collection)Last year marked the 20th anniversary of Barney s Great Adventure, which attempted to take the then-popular kids TV show, Barney Friends and turn it into a movie franchise. The plan didn t work and the TV show went off the air in 2009. Even so, Barney Friends obviously is remembered with some nostalgia by the now-adults who watched the show during its 90s heyday. And so perhaps it s not surprising that a Barney reprise is now in development. British actor Daniel Kaluuya, who is probably best known for both Get Out and his role in Black Panther, has teamed up with Mattel Film (via his 59% production company) to start development on a live-action Barney movie. It s not yet known in what form Barney will be depicted in this movie, but three possible options are: #1 a big purple foam costume like the original TV show, #2 a computer animated (but still cartoony) purple dinosaur, or #3, a full-giant-sized purple Tyrannosaur Rex (the original dinosaurs stood anywhere from 12 to 20 feet tall).

3. 激战团竞模式
Chris Evans took a break from his Marvel superhero duties in 2013 to star in Bong Joon-ho s sci-fi movie Snowpiercer. Based on the 1982 French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, the story followed a high-speed, non-stop bullet train filled with the final remnants of the human race as a second Ice Age turned the planet into an unlivable, post-climate change wasteland. The inhabitants on-board the locomotive represent a sampling of a society that was all but wiped out. The overcrowded back-end of the train is where the underprivileged exist, forced to follow the various orders handed down by militia, while they eat gelatinous blocks of protein for every meal. Contrasting this gritty despair is that of the passengers residing in the front of the train. Here, it s like a high-class vacation every day, where the elite are pampered with all sorts of perks like sushi, pedicures, and lavish nighttime parties.Bong s film was widely celebrated, so it wasn t too surprising when it was announced two years later that a Snowpiercer TV series was in development. A pilot was ordered in 2016, and TNT ordered the series in 2018.It s been four years since the news hit, though. During that time, the project has been hit with a flurry of setbacks. Behind-the-scenes creative disputes and the shuffling of the project — it was moved from TNT to TBS, and then back again — has kept the series stuck in development hell. After all this time, it is looking like the small-screen adaptation of this futuristic dystopian tale is finally on a hopeful trajectory. So let s get into the nitty-gritty and explore everything we know about the upcoming Snowpiercer TV series.A STELLAR CAST IS ON BOARD(Photo by Monica Burns/Turner)For such a high-concept TV series, one would expect a collection of top-notch actors to come along for the ride, and the ensemble brought together for the TNT series is pretty impressive. After 19 years, Academy Award-winner Jennifer Connelly (Alita: Battle Angel) returns to television — anyone remember the short-lived procedural, The $treet? — to play first-class passenger and head of hospitality Melanie Cavill. Tony Award–winner Daveed Diggs, who is best known for his roles in the musical Hamilton and his feature writing debut Blindspotting, plays former police detective Layton Well, a man who lives in squalor in the back of the train.Other actors featured in the show s cast include Mickey Sumner (American Made), Tony Award-winner Lena Hall (Hedwig and the Angry Inch), Annalise Basso (Slender Man), Steven Ogg (The Walking Dead), and Timothy V. Murphy (Sons of Anarchy).EXPECT MORE CLASS STRUGGLES, SOCIAL POLITICS, AND SOME EPIC WORLD-BUILDING(Photo by TNT)In the new series, the constantly-moving, self-sustaining train that is known to its inhabitants as the Rattling Ark will still be there. But while we re getting the futuristic visuals of this post-apocalyptic version of Noah s Ark — along with the similar themes of class, race, and social politics featured in the graphic novel and movie — the mechanics of the Snowpiercer world will be expanded. As a fan of the film and reading the scripts, it broadens the world exponentially. And that s one of the advantages of TV: you have time, series star Diggs previously told IGN. So the politics that are hinted at in the film are explored in much more depth, and the mechanism of the train [is explored further] — just the little things that create a world, world specificity. During a panel at the 2017 Television Critics Association press tour, TNT boss Kevin Reilly teased a central mystery that would be the throughline in season 1, saying it would focus on characters stuck together in an intense environment in a game of survival. Diggs further touched on the class commentary featured in the series at the program s NYCC panel.“Anyone who’s from a marginalized community knows there’s a kind of togetherness that comes out of necessity, and a feeling of family and lack of lying from having to band together,” Diggs said. “So there are some good things, but no amenities. It’s pretty bleak; it’s hard to raise children with no resources. They’re dealing with truly extreme circumstances, so the idea that there’s something to fight for is pretty intense.”A SHOWRUNNER SHAKE-UP SLOWED EVERYTHING DOWN (Photo by Michael Kovac/Getty Images)A year after TNT ordered Snowpiercer to series, Josh Friedman (War of the Worlds) was brought on to run the show. Just weeks later, after production officially began, Friedman was replaced by Orphan Black co-creator Graeme Manson (pictu

4. 呼朋唤友 随心所欲
This Week s Ketchup brings you seven headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Hercules, Space Jam: A New Legacy, and the animated Transformers prequel.  This WEEK S TOP STORYDISNEY IS DEVELOPING A LIVE-ACTION HERCULES REMAKE(Photo by Walt Disney Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)Of the 10 animated features that Walt Disney Pictures released between 1989 and 1999, three have been remade in recent years (Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and The Lion King), two are currently waiting to be released or in the works (Mulan and The Little Mermaid), and still one more just entered development last year (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). We re probably never going to get a live-action Rescuers Down Under, so that only leaves Pocahontas, Tarzan, and Hercules, one of which is now also officially in the works. Walt Disney Pictures is now developing a live-action remake of their 1997 mythological animated musical Hercules (Certified Fresh at 84%), and it will have two direct connections to Marvel Studios in the form of producers Joe and Anthony Russo (the directors of Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame) and screenwriter Dave Callaham, who is currently working on Marvel s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings (5/7/2021). It is reportedly unclear if the remake will have musical songs from the original, or if it will be a non-musical remake like Mulan, and we don t yet know who will direct it (although there have been some rumors). Another question left to be addressed is where this puts Marvel s own version of Hercules, who is one of the earliest members of the Avengers (#11, just before Black Panther and Vision), and one of the longest-running team members as well (his longest stint was in the 1990s). Hercules also has the distinction of being one of the few Marvel Comics characters to receive a popular Internet meme as the COOL STORY, BRO guy without also appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Could the Hercules remake end with someone like Nick Fury inviting him to join the New Avengers Initiative?Other Top Headlines1. MAJOR FILM FESTIVALS UNITE FOR WE ARE ONE ON YOUTUBEThe COVID-19 pandemic has obviously had an impact on all sectors of society, but some of them didn t necessarily present obvious alternatives within a stay-at-home strategy. For example, yes, movie studios could reschedule their theatrical releases or release some of them on VOD, but the world s various film festivals are designed to bring people together from across the globe into spaces where they would breathe the same air for two hours in close quarters. So what s going to happen to the dozens of movies that would have premiered at those festivals in 2020? YouTube and Tribeca Enterprises appear to have found a solution, which will be an event called We Are One: A Global Film Festival that will be presented on YouTube from May 29th to June 7th, 2020. The event will feature programming from 20 major film festivals including Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, New York, Toronto, Tribeca, and Venice. One of the festivals that will not be participating is SXSW, because they are already partnering with Amazon for a separate event now streaming (4/27 to 5/6).2. TRANSFORMERS GETTING ANIMATED PREQUEL FROM TOY STORY 4 DIRECTOR (Photo by De Laurentiis entertainment Group courtesy Everett Collection)Although the 2018 solo Transformers spinoff Bumblebee did very well with critics (Certified Fresh at 91%), the box office numbers were relatively disappointing compared to previous Transformers films. For that reason, Paramount and Hasbro have yet to announce plans for any further solo movies for other Transformers characters, even if they continue to develop other Transformers-related projects. With the latter in mind, one of the new Transformers films Paramount is working on is an animated prequel to be set on their home world of Cybertron. That project is now being developed by director Josh Cooley, who made his feature film debut last summer with Toy Story 4 (Certified Fresh at 97%), which went on to earn over billion at the global box office and win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.3. JOSH BROLIN AND PETER DINKLAGE TO STAR IN TWINS-ESQUE COMEDY BROTHERS(Photo by RCF, Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)After starring in several acclaimed indie dramas (notably Blue Ruin, Certified Fresh at 96%), Macon Blair moved on to directing with his debut film, Netflix s I Don t Feel at Home in This World Anymore (Certified Fresh at 89%). For his next film, Blair has signed with Legendary Entertainment to direct a Twins-esque high-concept comedy called Brothers. Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger starred in Twins as a pair of odd couple brothers, and the brothers in Brothers will be played by two Avengers: Infinity War stars. Those stars will be Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister from Game of Thrones) and Josh Brolin (Marvel s Thanos and Cable), but the comedy angle besides them being Brothers isn t yet known.4. DAISY RIDLEY SHOULD WATCH OUT FOR THE ICE BENEATH HER  (Photo by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)Now that the Star Wars Skywalker Saga  is officially done, Daisy Ridley is one of the recent franchise stars who has a lot more time on her hands. We re still awaiting the release of one of those projects, the post-apocalyptic Chaos Walking, and this week, she started negotiations for  another. Ridley is now in talks with STXfilms to star in the psychological thriller The Ice Beneath Her, which will be produced and directed by the people behind last year s Ready or Not (Certified Fresh at 88%). The Ice Beneath Her is an adaptation of a 2015 novel by Swedish author Camilla Grebe which has been compared to both Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train.

ttle in the way of unforgettable moments, they re always intriguing enough to keep curiosity burning about what will happen next (or, for those who know the book, how the series will stage or reshape it). — Keith Phipps, TV GuideIs Now the Right Time for Another Apocalyptic TV Series?(Photo by Photo Cr: Robert Falconer/CBS ©2020 CBS Interactive, Inc. Whether the world needed another TV adaptation of The Stand (there was a 1994 version with Gary Sinise and Molly Ringwald) is a fair question, particularly when the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage around us. If it was just a reminder of the world around us, the answer might be no. But approached as an intriguing diversion, it works. — Bill Goodykontz, Arizona Republic The apocalypse isn t the point – it s simply the backdrop for what is unabashedly an epic modern fantasy. — Joshua Sargent, San Francisco Chronicle In a year ravaged by a far different virus, The Stand carries a different significance as it closes out a year terrifyingly similar to the story on screen. Told over nine episodes, including an all-new ending written by Stephen King and his son Owen, this new version of The Stand is a very uncomfortable story to watch while the world is mired in a real pandemic but still manages to be a faithful adaptation of King s masterpiece with timely updates that more or less work. — Alex Maidy, Jo Blo s Movie NetworkAny Final Thoughts?(Photo by Robert Falconer/CBS ©2020 CBS Interactive, Inc. This adaptation of one of Stephen King’s most dense, sprawling works never quite reaches the epic scope illustrated so clearly in the 1978 novel. — Roxana Hadadi, Variety It s a sometimes overstuffed, sometimes overly simple book, but also one whose vision of a fantastic America whose potential for greatness and moral clarity is always at war with its self-destructive impulses. Even if many missed it at the time, King found a way to express an underlying truth about the place he calls home. The best parts of this adaptation channel that well. — Keith Phipps, TV Guide The performances are strong, the set pieces are cinematic, and, most importantly, the commitment to King’s prose is stonier than a man’s heart. — Michael Roffman, Consequence of SoundThe Stand premieres on Thursday, December 17 to CBS All Access. On an Apple device? While serving as an emotional coda to The Infinity Saga, Spider-Man: Far From Home still offered a few glimpses into the Marvel Cinematic Universe following the events of Avengers: Endgame. In the new movie, the Avengers have gone to ground or to space, but the world is looking for a hero to rally around. That is the burden Peter Parker (Tom Holland) finds himself carrying throughout the film. But with the constant reminders that he is an Avenger while the rest of the team is unavailable, it may leave you wondering if they really left the defense of the planet to a lone 16-year-old boy.The post-credit stinger scene seems to offer a clue to what is really going on. And be warned: This next bit contains a big spoiler for Far From Home. We learn Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) was Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), the shape-shifting Skrull from Captain Marvel, serving as Fury’s proxy throughout the adventure. The real Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), was stationed elsewhere – a space station and/or staging ground for a number of Skrull ships. The whole thing was a killer surprise and left us wondering what it means for Phase 4 of the MCU. So let’s take a look at a few ideas from the pages of Marvel Comics to see what all this could mean for Fury, his Skrull allies, and their plans in a world without Tony Stark. The Forging of S.W.O.R.D.(Photo by © Columbia / © Marvel Studios/ Courtesy Everett Collection)Early in Far From Home, Talos-as-Fury mentions he is without a team despite clearly having one when he co-opts Peter in Venice. The implication: Fury has not reclaimed or reformed S.H.I.E.L.D. For the moment, we’re going to assume Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. occurs in an alternate timeline and the organization completely disintegrated after Captain America: The Winter Solider even if Coulson (Clark Gregg) and his team helped the Avengers find the Hydra base in Sokovia and aided Fury in securing the helicarrier seen in Avengers: Age of Ultron. But with them out of the picture, S.H.I.E.L.D. died away. Or, Talos was laying it on thick because Fury spent the time since Endgame building a new organization: S.W.O.R.D.Created by Joss Whedon and John Cassady in the pages of Astonishing X-Men, S.W.O.R.D – Sentient World Observation and Response Department – was introduced as a counterpart to S.H.I.E.L.D. and ran by Agent Abigail Brand. Its purpose, as the name suggests, was to face outward into space, detect threats, and deal with them before they made planetfall. The department operated from an orbiting space station known the Peak. With the Infinity Saga at an end, a complete replacement for S.H.I.E.L.D. within MCU films makes a certain amount of sense. And as Phase 4 is said to be more about intergalactic matters than heroes back home, a group with a space station and FTL-capable ships is exactly the sort of thing Fury would build to replace S.H.I.E.L.D. You can almost hear the conversation he had with Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) about the topic during Tony’s funeral. It may also explain why so many Avengers are off-world.And while it seems clear that the Skrulls are building some version of the Peak, S.W.O.R.D. may not be the group inhabiting it in the end.A Secret Invasion After All?(Photo by © Marvel Studios, © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)We’ve talked about Secret Invasion before – the 2008 event miniseries in which a newly radicalized Skrull attack force infiltrated all levels of Marvel Comics primary Earth, taking key positions inside superhero teams, governments, and S.H.I.E.L.D. It looked like a good idea for Phase 4 s overarching story. But following the release of Captain Marvel – in which the Skrulls emerged as a sympathetic and persecuted species – we were prepared to set aside any thoughts of an MCU Secret Invasion. Captain Marvel allied with them and volunteered to help them find a new homeworld. But what if the “five years out of date” Fury has sided with a covert alien taskforce? Could they be looking to conquer Earth after all? Then again, considering the way Captain Marvel changed the antagonistic nature of the Skrulls, their infiltration of Earth may not necessarily be to conquer the planet. Perhaps the plan is to build the Peak, a S.W.O.R.D.-like organization, and, potentially, a new Avengers team led by Spider-Man to counterattack an invasion force they know is en route. In this situation, the most likely antagonistic candidate would be Kree Empire. Also, now that all the X-Men properties are back at Marvel Studios, it could be an attack of the Brood – an alien life form with more than a passing resemblance to 20th Century Fox’s Alien franchise, which Disney also now owns – or perhaps something like The Builders, an ancient species which directed evolution across the cosmos and various realities. Also, there is always the possibility Talos went rouge and, much like Quentin Beck s (Jake Gyllenhaal) illusions, convinced Fury of a phantom menace to further his own plans for an invasion and occupation of Earth. Twenty-odd years have passed since he proved to be a sympathetic alien attempting to locate his family. It is possible whatever he encountered out in the universe made him another power-mad warlord. The cosmos is full of them, after all.Perhaps Fury Is In A Secret War(Photo by © Marvel Studios, © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)The Nick Fury of Marvel Comics is not above manipulating the superheroes to get a desired outcome on the geopolitical stage. This was the theme of 2004’s Secret War miniseries, in which Fury recruited Spider-Man, Captain America, Luke Cage, Black Widow, Wolverine, and Quake to covertly invade Latveria and prevent Prime Minister Lucia von Bardas from funding and training a team of minor super villains to carry out terrorist actions across the globe. The op is seemingly successful, but Fury alters the memories of his strike team to forget the whole affair. A year later, Von Bradas retaliates and Fury is forced to reveal to the heroes their part in his black bag mission. He steps down as director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and several members of the group – Cap , Spider-Man, and Luke Cage to name a few – end up founding a new Avengers team sometime later. Now, if Fury is conducting a secret war in the MCU, Latveria may not necessarily be his target – although anything is possible with Doctor Doom screenwriter Noah Hawley saying his plans for the film may yet fit into the MCU tapestry – but his insistence on giving Peter the EDITH glasses suggests he is covertly preparing Spider-Man for something very specific. And if that is the case, will we see him or his Skrull allies lead new characters like Shang-Chi, the Eternal Sersi, and returning characters like Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) toward becoming the strikeforce of Fury s dreams? And if this is a way to assemble the New Avengers, it could also lead to Wolverine s MCU introduction without the X-Men. Logan had a life before he joined that team and who wouldn’t want to see him re-enact his debut tussle with the Hulk from The Incredible Hulk #181?But if all this effort is just to get the New Avengers, why all the skullduggery? Sure, Fury is accustomed to keeping people in the dark, but maybe there’s something larger at work. As it happens, Secret War set off a series of stories culminating in Avengers vs. X-Men, but we suspect the threat the MCU Fury is planning for will come from space. The Coming of Galactus(Photo by © Marvel )The Devourer of Worlds is one of our favorite possibilities for a new MCU big bad. We’ve been predicting his arrival since the moment Disney first announced plans to buy 20th Century Fox. His MCU debut, whether it happens in 2020 or 2030, is inevitable. But even if we don t see him on screen for another 10 years, he still serves as the sort of threat which ties all of these ideas together.Imagine, for a moment, that Captain Marvel and the Skrulls found a world to settle within a year or two of the events depicted in Captain Marvel. But after a decade or two of peace and prosperity on the planet, the herald of Galactus appeared to tell them their new home was scheduled to become dinner. Carol – and maybe even the herald – helped evacuate the planet, but they also realized Galactus s path would eventually lead to Earth. In the wake of Endgame, most of Earth’s heroes were too weary or grief-stricken to hear about the coming of Galactus. And even if they were hale and ready for battle, Talos and Carol would go to their friend Nick Fury first. Either way, he would advise developing assets to take on the ancient being in secret, preparing them for a day when they must combine their strengths and face the impossible. And if Peter is destined to be “the next Iron Man,” he will end up speaking for the people of Earth once Galactus arrives in Manhattan. Well, provided he clears his name before that time.Of course, it always possible Fury is putting together a new defense apparatus simply because he wants to. The Skrull involvement gives him a jump on large-scale orbiting space stations and a fleet of ships – two things still beyond the ability of Stark Enterprises and bad actors on Earth – and since he devised the Avengers Initiative in the first place, a superhero like Spider-Man would be part of his new design. But as we enter a long period without a Marvel Studios release – no new films until sometime next year – we’ll keep speculating on what Fury’s pact with the Skrulls means and how it will impact forthcoming films like The Eternals and Shang-Chi. Will a common enemy unite them sooner than anyone suspects?Like this? Subscribe to our newsletter and get more features, news, and guides in your inbox every week.

Bob竞彩 (Photo by Everett Collection, Imaginal Disc and Labocine, and Touchstone Television)Four years ago, Rosa Parra wasn’t nearly as well-versed in film history as she is now. She’d just seen Wonder Woman, which sparked her interest in – now a love for – cinematic spectacles and women’s representation on- and off-screen. That was the launchpad for Parra’s film education and career in criticism – and her star just keeps rising.Parra’s passion is palpable. She’s driven not just by a love of visual storytelling, but by a desire to uplift Latinx stories. She started out writing movie reviews on a site she ran herself. In 2020, she co-founded the Latinx Lens podcast with her co-host Catherine Gonzales, where the two discuss history, icons, and recent releases. She’s also earning a bachelor’s in Film and Media Studies from Arizona State University. And that’s all on top of her day job as a lab technician. (In addition to her love of movies, she’s a self-identified “science person.”)“Everything I do with writing and preparing for podcasting, I do it after work,” Parra told Rotten Tomatoes. She dedicates her work commute and weekends to learning about film, too – sometimes with her kids, who she lovingly calls her “movie buddies.”“Having to balance it all is not easy, but if you are determined and you plan out, literally to the last minute of the day that you re awake – like, I have five minutes to do this in the morning – it s doable.”Rosa Parra is the co-host and co-founder of the Latinx Lens podcast. Find Rosa on Twitter: @rosasreviews.Have you returned to theaters? What was the first film you saw? Yes, I did. The day they opened! I had to go in there and watch something that deserved to be watched on the big screen, so I went in and watched Tenet. Man, that was an incredible experience.Do you have a favorite snack while you re watching movies?Ooh. I would probably say nachos. I love nachos. Are you pro- or anti-note-taking when you re reviewing?I will if I m at home because I have the ability to pause the film and actually take notes, and try to analyze what I just watched. If I m in the theater, I probably won t, because I don t want to miss anything that I m seeing.Do you read other people s reviews before you write your own?No, I try to do my own thing before reading someone else s thoughts. What is your favorite release of 2021 so far?So far, my favorite movie of the year is Identifying Features. It s a Mexican film that follows a mother who is seeking the whereabouts of her son who decides to cross the border and come to the United States. But then she doesn’t hear from him, so she takes it upon herself to go in search of him. It’s a smaller independent film, but it s so moving, it s so touching, and it s so riveting that it’s haunted me since I watched it.And actually, not that long ago, I watched Pig… I was like, oh, it might become my favorite of the year. But just by a little bit – by thin a margin, like a hair – it didn t make it. It s my number two, but Identifying Features still holds my top spot. What makes a good movie? It s going to differ from people to people. Because at the end of the day, film is subjective. It s an art. What I think is good, other people might not. It is a subjective medium. To me, a good movie is one that leaves me thinking about it hours, days, after I ve seen it – a movie that s re-watchable… But also that makes me feel something, whether it s sadness or it takes me back to my childhood, any childhood memories, or just makes me cry, or just overwhelms me with any form of emotion. I think that s certainly my definition of a good movie.

(Photo by Syfy; BBC AMERICA; Netflix/Courtesy Everett Collection)The past year has offered 12 TV seasons Certified Fresh at 100% — including The Good Place, Cobra Kai, Vida, and Dear White People — of 110 overall that are Certified Fresh. A voracious TV consumer could simply work their way down the list of every Certified Fresh TV show of 2018, or have a look at Rotten Tomatoes staff picks. Our editorial staff has considered the year in television and curated a list of series that may not have met the criteria for Certified Fresh, but nonetheless have captured our imaginations and earned our recommendation anyway. The Expanse 94%What It Is: In the 23rd century, after colonizing the solar system, humans make first contact with an alien race. But rather than meet face-to-whatever, the interaction occurs via the ancient, extinct race s super-advanced A.I. technology, which humanity struggles to understand, communicate with, and ultimately control. Why You Should Watch It: It s been 10 years since Syfy s Battlestar Galactica remake from Ronald D. Moore (Outlander) went off the air. The series, which topped our list of the 100 best sci-fi series of all time, won worldwide fans through its gritty space-opera storylines about the human struggle with and against intelligent machines. The BSG world felt lived in, and its characters, both human and machine, presented a seemingly viable space-based future. The Expanse, which Amazon dramatically rescued from cancellation this year, is BSG s very worthy successor in offering a similarly complex sci-fi tale with engaging characters and award-worthy production design. It stars Steven Strait, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Dominique Tipper, Cas Anvar, Wes Chatham, Frankie Adams, and Thomas Jane. Why the show hasn t enjoyed the same level of worldwide appeal is one of the series greatest mysteries.Where to Watch: Amazon, Syfy (season 3)Commitment: around 25 hoursPicked By: Debbie Day, TV Features EditorBarry 99%What It Is: In this dry, sometimes unexpectedly somber HBO dark comedy, a professional killer for hire from the Midwest travels to Los Angeles for a hit and stumbles into an acting class, where he not only discovers a community of aspiring actors who welcome him but also begins to imagine a quieter, more normal life. Why You Should Watch It: Thanks to his up-for-anything enthusiasm and easygoing charisma — not to mention his impeccable comedic timing — SNL and Documentary Now alum Bill Hader has earned a sizable fanbase over the years. Those fans were always going to show up for Barry, no matter how good (or bad) it was. Fortunately, the series does a magnificent job balancing Hader s natural boyish charm and his less frequently utilized — but still incredibly effective — proficiency at communicating deep pathos (see: The Skeleton Twins), and he s aided by a stellar ensemble that includes Stephen Root, Anthony Carrigan, Sarah Goldberg, and Henry Winkler in one of his finest roles in years.Barry begins with a funny idea, infuses it with real emotional investment, and tosses in a few Oh, sh ! moments just to keep you on your toes. Hader and Winkler have already taken home Emmys for their efforts, and they re both up for Golden Globes next, so now is as good a time as any to see what all the fuss is about.Where to Watch: HBOGOCommitment: A little over 4.5 hoursPicked by: Ryan Fujitani, Sr. EditorBabylon Berlin What It Is: While investigating a pornography ring, Inspector Gereon Rath (Volker Bruch) discovers a web of conspiracies with huge implications for Germany as a whole. Why You Should Watch It: The idea of the Weimar Republic (the era of German history that spanned from the end of World War I until the rise of the Nazis) has exerted a powerful fascination to this day. It was a time that produced a flowering of artistic expression — from the Bauhaus Movement to The Threepenny Opera, not to mention such cinematic masterworks as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu, Metropolis, and The Blue Angel — and a moment of (relative) tolerance for LGBTQ people. It was also a time of political upheaval, during which a democratic government attempted to hold together a nation struggling with extreme economic insecurity, a time when communists and fascists brawled in the streets. Historians dispute some elements of this narrative as myth, but while Babylon Berlin may be imperfect history, it’s exhilarating entertainment. Its Berlin is all bright neon and dark shadows, decadent parties and sudden outbursts of violence, mysteries and underground plots. We all know the horrible ending to this story, but the characters in Babylon Berlin don’t, and seeing this tumultuous period through the lives of regular people living in the moment gives the whole thing an air of haunting pathos.Where to Watch: NetflixCommitment: Just shy of 16 hoursPicked By: Tim Ryan, Review Curation ManagerKilling Eve 89%What It Is: This badass British spy thriller follows two female leads — MI5 intelligence officer Eve (Sandra Oh) and international assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) — who become obsessed with tracking each other down. Why You Should Watch It: There’s a reason Oh is getting finally getting her long-deserved award recognition for this role: She’s phenomenal as a mild-mannered government employee who heads up a task force to find a female assassin (an also-phenomenal Comer), beginning a deadly cat-and-mouse game between the two women. The BBC America series is also frequently incredibly funny, thanks to sharp writing from creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag).Where to Watch: Hulu, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, iTunesCommitment: About 5.5 hoursPicked By: Jean Bentley, Assistant TV EditorPeaky Blinders 92%What It Is: A raw mob epic set in 1919 Birmingham, England. Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy), a World War I veteran and leader of the “Peaky Blinders” gang, has started the family business of running a bookie service as well as providing local muscle. Why You Should Watch It: This gritty crime drama will keep you glued to your screen as Tommy tries to build his empire and cement his legacy, all while facing the ever-changing landscape of the new century post-WWI. Guns, gambling, influence, politics, and the streets — this show has it all. Great costume and set design lure viewers into 1919 England to experience the region s post-war trauma. See how far Tommy will go to make a buck and gain power and the collateral damage his family must endure because of it. The series did not offer a new season to U.S. audiences in 2018, but with season 5 coming in 2019, now is a perfect time to binge it.Where to watch: NetflixCommitment: About 24 hoursPicked By: Shane Crocker, Motion Graphic DesignerChilling Adventures of Sabrina 81%What It Is: This comic book–adapted Netflix series from the creator of Riverdale is a dark reimagining of the Sabrina, the Teenage Witch story. Half-witch, half-mortal Sabrina (Kiernan Shipka) refuses to sacrifice her human relationships in order to keep her witchy powers and must navigate the boundaries between the mortal and supernatural worlds. Why You Should Watch It: If you’re the kind of witch who wishes Halloween could be a year-long holiday, look no further than Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. This show has plenty of campy magic and glamorous gore, but it’s more than flashy spells and Satanic references. Each of Sabrina’s allies — her aunts, cousin Ambrose, human friends, and demonic frenemies — has their own depth and intrigue, which makes their world colorful and worth a deep investment. It’s ultimately a coming-of-age story: Watching Sabrina come into her own, and change minds to do so, is exciting, empowering, and fun. She makes some big mistakes along the way, but who can blame her? She’s only just learning to play with hellfire.Where to Watch: NetflixCommitment: About 11 hoursPicked By: Sophie-Marie Prime, USC’s Rotten Tomatoes FellowForever 95%What It Is: Maya Rudolph and Fred Armisen star as an ordinary married couple tethered to routine until a freak accident changes everything they thought they knew about themselves and the world. Why You Should Watch It: Much has been written about how Better Call Saul is an ode to the everyday (crime and dubious legal practices notwithstanding). They couldn t be more different, but if you re a fan of BCS, 2018 s Forever will appeal just as well. Created by Alan Yang of Master of None and featuring prolific comedic actors Rudolph and Armisen (do they ever sleep?), the show poses big questions while simultaneously offering tiny details for viewers to chew on long after the final episode of this compact series ends. Avoid spoilers as much as possible before indulging in this series, which somehow marries banality and longing to great effect.Where to Watch: AmazonCommitment: 4 hoursPicked By: Sara Ataiiyan, Review CuratorSchitt's Creek 93%What It Is: Schitt’s Creek is an amalgam of everything that is good and holy about Canadian entertainment. Why You Should Watch It: Led by Eugene Levy, his gorgeous son Dan, and their beautifully thick eyebrows, Schitt’s Creek follows the Rose family, their fall from grace, and their new life in a tiny town surrounded by some of the most wonderful, eccentric, and underrated characters on TV. The series is a rare bird: both funny and heartwarming, while completely insane and totally relatable. In watching, I have laughed so hard I cried, but I have also cried so hard that I had to laugh (specifically, season 4, episode 6). The relationships, the chemistry, the number of wigs Moira owns, Alexis’ vocal fry, and so on — everything about this show is so perfectly curated that you would be hard pressed to find anything else like it on television.Where To Watch: Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube, Google Play, iTunes, VuduCommitment: About 20 hoursPicked By: Zoey Moore, Community ManagerManiac 84%What It Is: Loosely based on a Norwegian show of the same name, Cary Joji Fukunaga’s mindtrip of a miniseries delves into the depths of the human mind with humor, heart, and just the right amount of heady conversations to keep you thinking. Why You Should Watch It: It’s the kind of show that can delicately explore the fragile folds that are the human mind and mental health, while still provoking a fully belly laugh (usually followed by a cathartic cry). Between Emma Stone and Jonah Hill’s melancholy chemistry, the singular force of confidently neurotic nature that is Sonoya Mizuno, and Justin Theroux and Sally Field s “special” parent–child relationships (truly something to behold), you feel for each character you meet. For a show about anxiety and depression, it’s refreshingly present. There are no endless flashbacks or flash forwards, even with some of the more cerebral elements. You share moments with the characters as they have them, making for an engaging, emotional viewing experience. Oh, and there are elves, therapy robots, tons of wild accents, unexpected mammals, and a neat retro futuristic feel that’s at once nostalgic and current. It may sound kind of heady, but trust us, it’s worth the trip.Where to Watch: NetflixCommitment: 6.5 hoursPicked By: Haña Lucero-Colin, TV Curation LeadTerrace House: Boys & Girls in the City What It Is: A reality series documenting the real lives of six roommates in Japan. Why You Should Watch It: For those who hate traditional reality TV and want insight into Japanese culture, this is your show. Don’t worry, there’s plenty of love triangles and conflict, but it’s more civilized. It’s the ultimate comfort watch! When you catch up with this season, there’s previous Terrace House series (“Boys and Girls in the City” and “Aloha State”) to enjoy!Where to Watch: NetflixCommitment: There are 42 episodes available from the most recent season, all around 30 to 40 minutes each — and it runs through 52! The time commitment is A LOT, but SO worth it.Picked By: Eileen Rivera, Sr. Director of ProductionHappy! 84%What It Is: Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Nick (Christopher Meloni), a degenerate hit man and ex cop, gets beaten up by mobsters only to wake up in the hospital seeing a cheerful blue unicorn named Happy (Patton Oswalt). Nick learns Happy is the imaginary friend of a kidnapped little girl named Hailey, who is being held captive by a demented Santa Claus. Happy won’t stop bothering Nick until they find Hailey and bring her to safety. Nick’s harsh, aggressive behavior clashes with Happy’s childlike mentality, creating a blend of violent dark humor living in each episode. Why You Should Watch It: Happy! is a solid mix of dark humor and violence — all set in a Christmas-centric world. It is the true opposite of everything we usually watch during the holidays. Through the season Nick gets into trouble with the mob, his former police partner, and his previous romantic partners, but it’s the absurdity of all these scenarios that keep you hooked. One of the most rewarding aspects about the show is the deeper you get, the wilder it becomes, from murderous side characters to a Willy Wonka-type corporate overlord. Happy! is not for the faint of heart and is truly made for fans of antiheroes. The casting is also particularly fun, as Meloni is the polar opposite of his Law Order: SVU character. Think: the crazy cook in Wet Hot American Summer, but darker and more twisted.Where to Watch: Netflix, SyfyCommitment: About 6.5 hoursPicked By: Jason Blagman, AssistantElite 97%What It Is: Rich, sexy Spanish teens clash with working-class students at their elite private school, leading to murder. Why You Should Watch It: Gossip Girl meets Big Little Lies meets Skins meets Cruel Intentions meets The O.C. meets Veronica Mars meets well, basically every single other of the very best teen dramas for this Spanish-language soap-to-end-all-soaps. The eight-episode season features overachieving teens doing teen things like vying for a scholarship, having sex, doing drugs, blackmailing, and murder. The private-school uniforms evoke Gossip Girl, the class clashes evoke The O.C., and the murder-mystery at the center, featuring flash-forwards to the teens being interrogated by police, is very BLL. Elite is addictive and pulpy and  will most certainly keep viewers up late trying to figure out who killed [spoiler]. Pro tip: If you don t speak Spanish, Netflix will usually default to the dubbed version. To avoid that travesty, and make sure you select the European Spanish audio track.Where to Watch: NetflixCommitment: About 8 hoursPicked By: BentleyHappy Valley 98%What It Is: A kind of Fargo for the South of England, Happy Valley focuses on policewoman Catherine Cawood’s (Sarah Lancashire) personal and professional lives in the struggling, drug-ridden town for which the series is named. Each season comes with a different mystery, extended across that season’s six episodes, and while they’re dark and twisted fun, the show’s true focus is Cawood’s past – particularly the rape and murder of her daughter by the convict Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) – and its refusal to stay buried. Why You Should Watch It: There is a reason Lancashire was at one time Britain’s most highly paid TV actress: her Cawood is one of TV’s great creations. She’s tough as nails at work, and at home, and yet is only ever barely holding it together, and Lancashire’s performance is revelatory for those unfamiliar with her work. She’s as compelling a TV anti-hero as any of the guys you’d find on AMC or HBO. Lancashire is well matched by a supporting cast that includes Siobhan Finneran (Downton Abbey s sinister O’Brien) as her sister Clare, who is coping with sobriety, and James Norton as the menacing Royce, whom anglophiles might recall swooning over in Grantchester and War and Peace, and who is rumored to be in consideration to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond. It can be dour, nasty stuff, but series creator and writer Sally Wainwright infuses it with just enough heart, humor, and quirk – this is small-town-TV-England after all – to make it utterly bingeable. Happy Valley is another Netflix title that didn t release a new season in 2018, but will in 2019, making now a great time to binge.Where to Watch: Amazon, Google Play, iTunes, Netflix, YouTube, VuduCommitment: 12 hoursPicked by: Joel Meares, Editor-in-ChiefPose 98%What It Is: A look inside the underground ball scene in the 1980s, made famous by the documentary Paris Is Burning, in which competitors from various “houses” walk, dance, and/or perform in drag to win big trophies and bigger boosts social stature. Why You Should Watch It: That Pose is genuinely groundbreaking – it features a largely transgender cast, many of whom have not acted professionally before – was reason enough for many to tune in when the Ryan Murphy series premiered on FX in 2018. That it was genuinely thrilling, romantic, and ultimately moving was the reason most stayed on for all 10 episodes. Murphy’s series plays out like Fame at times, and like an episode of Drag Race at others. Which is to say there is as much new-to-New-York excitable pluckiness as there is shade being thrown around. The ball scenes are dynamically staged, with outrageous costumes (the pilot’s royalty-themed ball is a particular treat), and dangerous levels of fierceness. But what makes Pose something special are its softer moments, away from all that voguing. Moments like when Elektra, played by Dominque Jackson, who was a genuine house “mother” during the 1980s, grapples frankly with whether to undergo sexual reassignment surgery. Or when Billy Porter’s Pray, who hosts the ball nights, keeps bedside vigil for his ailing lover. Porter, nominated for a Golden Globe this year, is a series standout, along with Indya Moore, whose complex relationship with married boy from the ’burbs Stan (Evan Peters) will break your heart.Where to Watch: Amazon, Fandango Now, FX+, Google Play, iTunes, Vudu, YouTubeCommitment: 10 hoursPicked by: Meares Stranger Things: Season 4 (Netflix) Starring: Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Caleb McLaughlin, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Millie Bobby Brown, Noah SchnappRelease Date: TBDWhile David Harbour s Hopper did not meet his end in the climactic battle of season 3, “It’s not all good news for our ‘American’; he is imprisoned far from home in the snowy wasteland of Kamchatka, where he will face dangers both human… and other,” creators the Duffer Brothers revealed in a press release announcing the start of season 4 filming. “Meanwhile, back in the States, a new horror is beginning to surface, something long buried, something that connects everything.” Read more: Everything We Know about Stranger Things Season 4.
