With Sung Kang’s highly anticipated return to one of the world’s biggest franchises in F9, Fast and Furious fans may finally be getting #JusticeForHan. But what does the man who plays Fast favorite Han think of the fan campaign to bring him back and make things right? And how did he go about shaping the mysterious snack-happy drift king into one of the most beloved characters in one of Hollywood’s most beloved film series? We sat down with Kang to dig into just that.Recommended: Rotten Tomatoes Is Wrong About  Tokyo Drift (podcast episode)In this exclusive and extended breakdown of Han’s journey in the films, Kang reveals how he worked with director Justin Lin to bring a standout character from Lin’s indie hit, Better Luck Tomorrow, into the Fast world; how the duo had to convince the studio it was the right move to make Han a bigger player in Tokyo Drift; what it means to play an Asian-American character that has inspired so many fans; and, yes, why Han snacks so damn much. Plus, Kang reflects on the #JusticeForHan campaign and the fans that revved it up, and the moment he realized that the impact of this character “is way bigger than me.”F9 is in theaters Friday June 25, 2021. On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News. Harris appeared as Captain Francis Crozier in The Terror opposite Ciarán Hinds (Game of Thrones) as Sir John Franklin and Tobias Menzies (Outlander) as James Fitzjames. An esteemed sailor with personal demons, Crozier faces a largely invisible  force of — if not evil exactly — unrelenting and destructive nature. Harris lead performance throughout, on- and apparently off-screen as well, was impressive, contributing to the season s stellar Certified Fresh 95% Tomatometer score and a Golden Tomato for best horror series in 2018. Jared was very often trying to give some of his lines away to other characters to make sure that they would stay in focus for the audience, it was amazing, showrunner  David Kajganich told Rotten Tomatoes in May last year. He’s the height of generosity. I mean, we couldn’t have asked for a better collaborator than Jared, in every way.Chernobyl is on its way to Certified Fresh status, with a 100% score on nine reviews ahead of its release. The five-part miniseries also stars Breaking the Waves costars Stellan Skarsgård and Emily Watson, who echoed Kajganich s admiration — also noting that Harris is a giggle. “You can tell from his work that he has complete integrity and cares very deeply about the things that really matter, Watson told Rotten Tomatoes. Actually getting to work with him confirmed that 100 percent — and to my great joy — he doesn’t care about the stuff that doesn’t matter. Very similar to Stellan, but I knew that already. Jared is effortlessly truthful and works without ego. He can get very animated if he feels that we’re not getting to the bottom of the subject in hand — holding everyone around him to a very high standard.”The historical drama also boasts an unlikely creative team: director Johan Renck (Vikings) is well known for his work in music videos, including David Bowie s Blackstar and Beyoncé s Me, Myself and I, while writer and creator Craig Mazin s credits — including Scary Movie 3, The Hangover Part II,  Identity Thief, and The Huntsman: Winter s War — though often profitable, don t immediately suggest prestige TV. (Photo by HBO)A go-to British character actor for the moody everyman, Harris is anything but in real life; for one, he is the son of Welsh actress and socialite Elizabeth Rees-Williams and renowned Irish actor Richard Harris — famous to a younger generation as the Harry Potter film franchise s beloved first Dumbledore (the one fans had to say goodbye to when the actor passed away in 2002). To a more seasoned audience, the elder Harris is best known as Marcus Aurelius in Gladiator and for Oscar-nominated roles in This Sporting Life and The Field. In addition to his Chernobyl and The Terror roles, Jared Harris has distinguished himself as King George VI in Netflix s award-winning period drama The Crown, as hard-living Outer Planets Alliance leader Anderson Dawes in sci-fi series The Expanse, rogue scientist David Robert Jones in Fringe, and as Mad Men s tragic ad-agency partner Lane Pryce. And that s just TV. He s also appeared on film as Professor James Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, Andy Warhol in I Shot Andy Warhol, and Ulysses S. Grant in Steven Spielberg s Lincoln. We spoke to the actor before Chernobyl hit, and he told us about the joys of performing with Skarsgård and Watson, the status of Anderson Dawes in The Expanse, and, as a big fan of another HBO hit series, indulged us with some Game of Thrones talk.(Photo by Roy Rochlin/Getty Images for Tribeca Film Festival)Debbie Day for Rotten Tomatoes: The first episode, to me, plays like a horror show. And after seeing you in The Terror, I wondered what draws you to that kind of bleak material.Harris: I want to say yes to things that are really well written. Stories that grip me, and that excite me, and ones that where I want to flip the page and see what happens next. And definitely felt that way about this. For someone like me who lived through that period of time, I was surprised at how interested I was in seeing the story portrayed. You mentioned, in your interview with Seth Meyers, that you remember the time well.Harris: I do remember it well. I was living in London at the time, and I remember all the stuff on the news about it. And like I said, tracking the cloud, and I also remember that once the cloud had passed over, and sort of passed over the Atlantic, people stopped paying attention to it, and I was very surprised to find out from reading this that it was spewing toxic waste up into the atmosphere for another three months. You know, they didn t say that at the time. And again, it was the things that you d find out that you didn t know, and the reason why you turned the page and you keep reading. The sacrifices that people made, the heroism of unnamed people that didn t expect to be lionized by history in any way. And the suppression of the truth, that bureaucratic bungling, the irony of it being a safety test that stops the whole thing. It was incredibly well written and fascinating. This is an interesting time to do a series about out-of-control egos.Harris: Absolutely. There are lots of immediate parallels, aren t there, too, to what s happening. We re dealing with crises that people are ignoring, the scientific facts, experts are not being listened to, opinions are taking precedent over scientific inquiry. You know? And they have very little regard for the health and well-being of their people.(Photo by HBO)That s something that definitely resonated with me about the series.Harris: I ll tell you what I took from it: The Soviet state was the one where the suppression of the truth was taken over facts. The state lied, and no one expected to be able to hear the truth from the state, and the powers that be. And the population had become cynical about an expectation of being able to hear the truth or hold power to account. But that s when things get dangerous: when you no longer can — or expect to be able to — hold the powers, the governing bodies to a standard of truth. And that s when they can get away with it. So you ve got to be vigilant, you can t give up. You can hold their feet to the fire. One of your character s quotes is, “Every lie we tell incurs a debt to the truth.” That was very meaningful to me.Harris: That was Craig, and when you pitch a show about a historical event, I think one of the questions you get asked is, Why now? How is it relevant to now? And you have to have an answer for that before the commissioners will say, OK, we ll give you however many millions to go ahead and make it. And I think that was in the DNA of what Craig was interested in: truth. And one of the things that he said that was interesting, which, again, he said A line from it, is he said, You can lie all you want, but the truth doesn t really care. And the truth will do what it s going to do. And I suppose in that sense, as it relates to what s happening now, we can argue over climate change all we like, but at the end of the day, it s going to do what it s going to do.You see that happening around the world, and I think that the older generation is really failing the task. There was an obsession with the generation above us, with the Golden Generation; they were fighting for everybody s rights in World War II, and for freedom and liberty, and — we are not covering ourselves with glory, our generation. It s hard to get people to care about something beyond their front doorstep.Harris: Until it comes right up to their front doorstep, then floods their living room That s what Craig s saying: If that s what s going to happen, it will do it anyway, whether you believe in it or not. If you believe the science or not, you can start paddling around in your living room in a kayak.(Photo by Aidan Monaghan/AMC)You ve had a long career, and when I saw your name on The Terror, I thought, Well, Jared Harris is in it, it must be good.Harris: I like that association. And, yeah, all of the television that I ve seen you in, like from Fringe, and Mad Men, and The Expanse, it s all been such excellent work. What is it about television?Harris: Why TV, why is that happening? I think that s got less to do with me, and it s got more to do with the fact that the studios have given up on entertaining adults. And they are trying to get a certain age bracket to come in, and it s sort of 12-24 year old men, and they give you giant tentpole action/superhero films, which I really enjoy, I go and see, as well. But they ve given up on any other entertaining, any other kind of mindset. And for a while, there was a vacuum, and then television has stepped into that vacuum, because there s an appetite for complicated stories, and nuanced characters, and original stories, and taking risks, and there is an appetite out there, and television and now the streaming platforms have stepped into that, and there s a supply for that demand.I think that s why it s happening. And for me, I grew up loving the movies of the ’70s, and I really thought that if you had a career in cinema, that somehow you d be working in films like that, and they don t really exist in films anymore, but they exist in television. There still will be rubbish on TV, don t get me wrong. There s still a lot of rubbish out there, and I personally, I want to be in things that I care about, and at the moment, there s enough out there that you don t have to say yes to rubbish to pay your mortgage, you can say yes to things that you care about, and stories that means something to you, and that interest me or not, but are challenging.(Photo by Marvel Comics)You do have a big, kind of blockbuster-y movie on the horizon, with Morbius, yes?Harris: Yeah, I ve got another week on that. And I mean, that s not a big commitment on my side, you know? They don t want anything to be revealed about it until it s time for them to start trying to go out there, and tickle the interest of the public. So I m doing a Spiderman spin-off movie called Morbius, but beyond that — that s it. Yeah. There s Matt Smith, which is cool. And Jared Leto. Was it confusing having two Jareds on set?Harris: It wasn t confusing — I ll say that. You also have Carnival Row coming, yes?Harris: Yes, I believe that s coming out at the end of this year, but I haven t heard anything specific. There would be a lot of effects with that — they would be spending more time on it, yes?Harris: I believe so, but … once something wraps, once your part wraps, you re in the dark until it s time for the thing to come out, and sometimes they still don t tell you anything, and we find out about it once it starts airing. So I m not sure what their plans are specifically. I think I heard somewhere that it s coming out in October, towards the end of October.(Photo by Syfy)Where did we leave Anderson Dawes in The Expanse? Did he kind of just jet off?Harris: Yeah. Anderson pinched — he stole the scientist, yeah. And that was it — that was the last we saw of him, specifically. Is there any hope that we’ll see him again?Harris: I’m not sure. I haven t heard any more from them. At one point, they had called up, and they were seeing whether or not I d be interested in — it wouldn t have been coming back for season 3, but for beyond season 3 I don t know what their plans are [now that] Amazon picked it up. I haven t heard anything from anybody.I really enjoyed that character. It was a very satisfying character for me. I spent a lot of time talking with Mark Fergus about the character, and the idea of walking a very thin line with regards to keeping the audience guessing as to what side of the fence he was on: Could you trust him? Was he an agent of good? Was he just out for himself, for his own self-aggrandizement? Or was he really there fighting for the cause. And I loved it. I loved playing with that back and forth of it. But, yeah, I don t know what their plans are.I think some of those questions still exist when he leaves the scene. I really enjoyed watching the character, because of that sort of enigmatic behavior.Harris: Yeah. From my point of view, I consider him to be “ride or die.” … He s looking out for the interest of his people. And he was prepared to do whatever he needed to do to make sure that they were protected and got what they needed, you know? But you never quite knew whether or not he was looking just to promote himself or not, the way he was using other people. I liked that ambiguity. I loved the crazy looks of the character. I remember, we were talking about the identity because they were going to put the tattoos on me, and I asked him what they were, and what they represented. And I said, Well, since I m supposed to be this sort of, the original OPA Belter, let s invent the idea that they re scars and that the original suits burned you. And that s how people end up representing their connection to the original guys. And they asked me about the accent, and they said, It s up to you to decide what you want to do, the accents you can do. It was like curry: You can be mild, medium, or spicy hot. And I said, I want the hot, the most difficult, the most extreme version of it, I want to do that one.Are you a fan of the books?Harris: I started to read them, but, again, I have so much reading to do, that — if I was coming back, would do a deep dive into them. I was really enjoying them, but … I don t read for pleasure any longer, I have so much reading to do, and when you say yes to a project, you suddenly have a stack of books, you ve got weeks of internet diving, and — I don t find reading pleasurable anymore. It s work.(Photo by HBO)When the next Song of Ice and Fire book comes out, will you read that?Harris: I haven t read those at all.Really?Harris: I haven t read any of them.Ah. That s interesting.Harris: But what I know from talking to people is that they are, they re The show s very different from the books. There s no Night King in the books … someone told me [author George R.R. Martin] doesn t feature the character. And the person who s going to bring the wall down is Euron Greyjoy.I m looking forward to the last three [episodes], although I can t believe that they ve erased the existential threat. Somehow, I feel as though there s a twist in that tale. It just seems, that seems odd, that that was continually driving the undercurrent of the entire series, and that they fought back, and now — and without it ever getting to Cersei s doorstep, either, which, if anyone deserves to be visited by the army of the undead, it s Cersei. If anyone deserves to become the undead, it s Cersei. And I think from Dany s dream earlier on in the series, we thought —Harris: When she s captured by the warlocks. Yeah, the whole roof to the throne room at King s Landing is completely burnt away.Someone said to me, Well, winter is still coming. Just because the Night King is gone, doesn t mean winter s going to stop. Harris: What does this mean, in terms of sort of what s left on the table? If her army has been decimated, they don t have enough to take out Cersei s two armies, and now the two dragons are in play, and you re going to go and melt King s Landing. But then, of course, there s going to be objections of doing that amongst her team of advisors. I could imagine somewhere along the line of that there will somehow be, and that they will bring up the not the Night King, per se, but that threat, and then since they re supposed to represent death, how can you kill death? The only other thing I did think about, was that the red god is referred to as being the red god and also he s the god of death. So then, you can look at it, and see an entire battle between the new god of death, and the old god of death. And the new god of death has wiped out the old god of death. And who knows what the red god s got plans for anybody else, now. Melisandre s god, and also, they referred to the same god by [Jaqen H ghar]; he refers to that as being the god of death and the red god. The same god.Interesting theory – a sort of religious transition.Harris: Well, it s the “Song of Ice and Fire”; one god represents winter, and the other s the fire god, and there s a battle between these two deities, being acted out between these human agencies as to who s got ultimate power over the world, I guess. We should probably stop talking about Game of Thrones. I hope you have a question about Chernobyl.(Photo by HBO)That s OK. I appreciate it. One more Chernobyl question: How do you feel about being in a prestige project like this, in which there is so much talent in the cast, everyone brought their A-game, and it s so well done?Harris: The very first words out of my manager s mouth was, HBO is doing a mini-series about Chernobyl.” So, it s HBO — ding! — ears pricked up, that means it s going to be really high quality, they take risks, it s really, it s massive support for the whole production, and they give a tremendous artistic license to the showrunners and the storytellers. So right there, you go, OK, that s amazing. And then, yeah, I got to spend most of my days with Stellan and Emily, and what a joy that is. I am tremendously fond of both of them. And they re brilliant, brilliant actors, and there s no angst about it. They can sit and chat about whatever they need to chat about, and then when it s time to do the work, they just put their heads down, and they lock right into that space and focus on it hard and deliver.I learned a lot, I mean, I learned a lot watching Stellan and Emily on this. That s the idea: You work with really good people, and you learn something every single time, if you re lucky.Thank you so much for your time today, Jared. And good luck with the series. It s going to do well — it s already got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.Harris: Whoo! Yeah. I saw that, and speaking of your algorithm, The Terror was very, very high on Rotten Tomatoes, and The Expanse: highest audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes for any of the sci-fi fantasy shows. How about that?I m a huge fan. Harris: I got a question for you: Who do you think is going to sit on the Iron Throne at the end of the story, of the whole series?I don t think anyone s going to sit on the Iron Throne. I think it s going to be destroyed.Harris: Well, [Daenerys] said she s going to break the wheel, you re quite right. A confederation — a confederation of kingdoms.A democracy.Harris: Yeah.(Photo by HBO)Postscript: With Game of Thrones anything can happen, and most theories turn out completely wrong. With Chernobyl, at least, we already know the end of the story. The thrill of the portrayal, however, is learning how they got there.Chernobyl premieres on Monday, May 6 at 9 p.m. on HBO.

This week in TV news: a new Stephen King adaptation, a Marvel crossover, and casting updates for Joss Whedon’s HBO sci-fi project The Nevers, DC Universe s Titans, season 3 of The Sinner, and more.Stephen King s The Stand Gets a New Miniseries — and a New EndingCBS All Access has planned a limited event series based on Stephen King s The Stand, for which the author will write a final chapter not found in the book. The cast includes Westworld s James Marsden as working-class factory man Stu Redman, Aquaman s Amber Heard as the conflicted Nadine Cross, Odessa Young as the young, pregnant Frannie Goldsmith, and Henry Zaga as the deaf and mute newfound leader Nick Andros. The series takes place a post-apocalyptic world decimated by plague where the forces of good and evil, and the fate of mankind rests on the frail shoulders of the 108-year-old other Mother Abagail and a handful of survivors. Their worst nightmares are embodied in a man with a lethal smile and unspeakable powers: Randall Flagg, the Dark Man, per the official description. The Stand’s previous adaptations include a 1994 miniseries that starred Gary Sinise, Molly Ringwald, and Rob Lowe and a 2008 Marvel comic series. The Man Who Fell to Earth Series in the Works From Star Trek: Discovery Producers(Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)The Man Who Fell to Earth is turning into a TV series. Based on the novel of the same name and the 1976 film starring David Bowie, the series will follow  an alien who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine our future, per the official announcement.“Walter Tevis’ visionary novel gave us a tech god Willy Wonka from another planet, brought to life by David Bowie’s legendary performance, that foretold Steve Jobs’ and Elon Musk’s impacts on our world. The series will imagine the next step in our evolution, seen through the eyes of an alien who must learn what it means to become human, even as he fights for the survival of his species,” co-showrunners Alex Kurtzman and Jenny Lumet said in a statement. Kurtzman and Lumet are both producers on CBS All Access Star Trek: Discovery.Marvel s Runaways Meet Cloak DaggerMarvel s teen superhero shows are staging a crossover: In the upcoming third season of the Hulu drama Runaways, the main characters from the Freeform drama Cloak Dagger will meet up with the titular teen superhero team. Details about the story line have not yet been revealed.“It’s so fun being able to do something that revels in the Mighty Marvel Manner! Having these young heroes cross over allows fans of both shows to see the adventure everyone has been waiting for and we’ve only hinted at,” said Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb in a statement announcing the news.Season 3 of Runaways premieres all 10 episodes December 13 on Hulu.Evil Is More Than an Exorcism of the Week The CBS drama Evil, which follows a psychologist, a priest-in-training, and a carpenter who investigate the backlog of unexplained mysteries in the Catholic church, is — as seen in the trailer above — much scarier than any series the network has aired before. But just because it s a procedural doesn t mean the series will feel the same from week to week. We are trying to avoid exorcism of the week, co-creator Robert King told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer press tour on Thursday. The second episode is about miracles. It’s about those question marks in life that you don’t quite know how they happen — a school where all the girls at the school start laughing, and it seems to be almost viral. I would say the other thing is you’re looking at life and you’re seeing evil, not with a capital E but with a small e — the boss who throws things at his employees. Where does that fit in? So that is really what our people are [doing]: Just figuring out what is genetically based villainy, if you want to use that word instead of evil, and what is something that’s even bigger, something more supernatural? But also looking at hope. 0.99.9 9月喜迎The CW reshaped the status quo of its comic book–based programming on Thursday by releasing a bevy of information during its annual Upfront presentation to advertisers. Besides trailers for the upcoming Batwoman and Katy Keene series, it also unveiled a new fall schedule obscuring the prevalence of superheroes on the network and teased the coming of “Crisis on Infinite Earths,” the annual fall Arrowverse crossover which will prove to be the most epic yet devised. So let’s take a look at what The CW’s comic book future will look like in the 2019-2020 season. No Legends of Tomorrow Until 2020Starting with the saddest bit of news — no, not the imminent end of Arrow — the network has postponed DC’s Legends of Tomorrow until mid-season. We’re big fans of the scrappy, goofy, time-traveling series. Despite the roughest of starts for any of the CW superhero shows, it found its voice in humor and the wilder aspects of the DC Comics library – from the most unlikely band of heroes to recurring spots for characters like John Constantine (Matt Ryan), and the demon Neron. Then again, those qualities make it much more a CW mid-season series than a headliner like The Flash or Riverdale. Consider off-beat series like My Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie and the placement makes much more sense. While it proved to be a nice change of pace from the dour Arrow this season, it also doesn’t need the connection to the main Arrowverse series like it once did. Perhaps the series will flourish in iZombie’s place.Alternatively, we may soon be sad to discover Legends will take another cue from iZombie and plan for its fifth season to be its last.Batwoman Gets a Fall PremiereIn one of the bigger surprises, Batwoman will arrive on The CW in the fall. The series seemed destined to replace Arrow on the schedule, but giving it a big fall debut signals the network has a certain confidence in the program. The series stars Ruby Rose as Kate Kane, Bruce Wayne’s cousin. Three years after Batman disappeared from Gotham City, crime has once again run rampant, and Kate’s father Jacob (Dougray Scott) attempts to hold back the tide as the head of Crows Private Security. But with the Alice in Wonderland gang kidnapping his own officers, Kate returns to town only to discover Alice’s latest victim is her ex-girlfriend Sophie Moore (Meagan Tandy). Tired of this state of affairs, Kate learns the truth about Bruce and takes up the cape and cowl as her own – even if her father despises masked vigilantes. Also, it is entirely possible Kate has a closer tie to Alice (Rachel Skarsten) than she realizes. The premise continues a certain progression within the Arrowverse as it gets closer to the main DC superheroes. Also, Batwoman is a pretty great character in her own right thanks to a complex inner life and mythology devised by Greg Ruka, J.H. Williams III, and W. Haden Blackman. From the trailer released by The CW on Thursday, some of these elements are already on display; like Kate’s dishonorable discharge from military school and Alice herself. Sadly, some of the elements we love from the comic book – Jacob as Kate’s version of Alfred and a ongoing relationship with Maggie Sawyer – will not be part of the series, but knowing the love these programs have for the source material, we expect those things will be honored in some way.The series will be paired with Supergirl on Sundays, a move which seemed fated from the moment word of a potential Batwoman series first made the rounds last summer. This seemed like such an obvious pairing, we were shocked to learn in last year’s “Elseworlds” crossover that Kate lives on Earth-1 and not Kara’s (Melissa Benoist) Earth-38. But with the coming Crisis, their pan-dimensional addresses may change.Arrow Joins The Flash on Tuesdays(Photo by JSquared Photography/The CW)Though The CW has a bevy of superhero shows (and two more shows based on comic books), it makes an attempt not to be known as the comic book network. One of the tactics they employ to obscure its superhero reliance is doubling the shows up on two key nights. In fall 2019, Tuesday will once again serves as the anchor night for this scheme as Arrow spends its final days as The Flash’s lead-out.And based on the way season 7 ended, it seems the eighth and final year will see Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) on one last mission to not only save his city, but the entire Multiverse. In a way, it seems mind-boggling that a show once so grounded as Arrow would end with its lead character saving all of creation. Then again, it also seems like something Oliver would take upon himself even if he hadn’t made that deal with The Monitor (LaMonica Garrett) during last Fall’s “Elseworlds” crossover. Presumably, this last mission will take place within the Arrow context — that is to say, a grounded story without super-powered shenanigans — before the Crisis takes Ollie to the cosmos. We’re also going to presume Legends will take Arrow’s Tuesday night slot in 2020. Black Lightning, which has held the Tuesday 9 p.m. slot since it debuted, is moving to Monday’s following All American in the Fall.Katy Keene Also Gets a Mid-Season SlotWith Riverdale seemingly heading toward an endgame — at least, its season finale heavily suggested a series-ending twist for next year — its world will finally expand with Katy Keene, a series based on the Archie Comics character set for a mid-season debut. The network previously developed Chilling Adventures of Sabrina as a Riverdale expansion before it quickly found a new home at Netflix. Compared to that show, it is easy to see why Katy Keene is a better fit for the network.Starring Lucy Hale, Ashleigh Murray, Jonny Beachamp, and Julia Chan as four up-and-comers in a New York as magical and timeless as Riverdale is murky and corrupt, the series was initially pitched as a musical dramedy, but that terminology has disappeared from all official descriptions of the series. Music will still be a big part of the series as Murray imports her Riverdale character Josie McCoy to Katy Keene. In fact, supporting characters from the Josie and the Pussycats comics like the Alexander and Alexandra Cabot will feature regularly on the series in the forms of actors Lucien Laviscount and Camille Hyde. The series will also feature Zane Holtz as Katy’s longtime boyfriend KO Kelly – another Archie Comics import – and Katherine LaNasa as Katy’s “demanding” boss Gloria. While seemingly light as air, the show hints at a dark edge with Chan’s Pepper Smith described as a mysterious player in town with dubious connections and even more dubious wealth. Considering the series was developed by Riverdale and Sabrina executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the show is almost guaranteed to have a dark heart beating under that veneer of glamour. In the meantime, though, it looks like a near-perfect intersection of The CW’s most successful programs. It would just need a member of the Gossip Girl cast to show up as a speedster to be really perfect.Riverdale, meanwhile, will remain its Wednesday 8 p.m. time slot. We would not be surprised to see Katy Keene become its lead-out come winter. The Crisis Is Nearly Upon Us(Photo by The CW)But there was one key happening the network was excited to tease during its presentation: the 2019 Arrowverse crossover, “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” The title is borrowed from the historic 1985 miniseries published by DC Comics, in which the company celebrated 50 years of its rich history while also ending the DC Universe as it existed up to that point. As the marketing at the time stated, “Worlds will live, worlds will die, and nothing will ever be the same.”In calling the 2019 crossover “Crisis,” we expect it will have similar ramifications. As it happens, Barry Allen and Kara Zor-El famously died in that story – and in rare display of fortitude in comics, both stayed dead for quite awhile – a possible ending for their TV counterparts hinted at during “Elseworlds.” But more importantly, the story ended with several DC Comics Earths merging into one new Earth. Considering this was one of the original Crisis on Infinite Earths’ lasting legacies for nearly two decades, we would not be surprised to see Kara become a permanent resident of the same reality as Barry Allen. This may be why Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes) was so quick to give up his powers. In 10 months’ time, there will no longer be a Multiverse to vibe into.As a television event, “Crisis” will span for three episodes prior to the customary CW winter hiatus, then resume with two more episodes in January 2020. But considering the way the Arrowverse programs will be doubled-up on Sundays and Tuesdays, it is unclear how each of the five parts will air. The previous crossover were stripped across three-to-four days, so that will like be the case again, with Black Lightning switching nights with one of the other shows or taking part itself – though the network has made no suggestion the show will finally become part of the Arrowverse. In fact, its story lines are so tightly paced, we have no idea how it could pause to help Barry (Grant Gustin) save all of time and space. Nonetheless, we d still love to see the Pierces standing alongside the heroes of Earth-1 and Earth-38 when they face off against the single greatest existential threat to ever laugh at the DC superheroes.
Today we dropped a preview of a special program we re launching in 2019: We call it RT21, and its purpose is to mark 21 years of Rotten Tomatoes by celebrating the movie and TV moments we ve loved, the critics who have contributed to our growth and success, and, most importantly, the fans who ve been driving debate and discussion with Rotten Tomatoes for more than two decades. The centerpiece of RT21 will be a video series, The 21 Most Memorable Moments, for which some of cinema s biggest names will break down the most unforgettable moments at the movies since Rotten Tomatoes was born. And there will be much more than that (see our 21 Reasons We Can t Wait for 2019) – but we won t give it all way now.

5. TIFFANY HADDISH, WILLEM DAFOE JOIN PAUL SCHRADER S THE CARD COUNTER(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough, Jef Hernandez/Everett Collection)The latest film from writer and director Paul Schrader was 2017 s First Reformed (Certified Fresh at 93%), in which Ethan Hawke played a priest struggling with religious doubt and commitment to his faith. For his next film, Schrader will shift from the church to the casino (sort of). Oscar Isaac went into this week already attached to star in The Card Counter as a professional gambler who finds himself recruited into a revenge plot against a military colonel. This week, Isaac was joined by three more stars, including Tiffany Haddish (as a mysterious gambling financier ), Tye Sheridan, and Willem Dafoe (as the colonel). Martin Scorsese, who directed early Paul Schrader screenplays like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, also signed on this week to executive produce the film.6. MARGARET QUALLEY JOINS SCOTT COOPER S HORROR FILM A HEAD FULL OF GHOSTS(Photo by Daniel McFadden/©Warner Bros.)Margot Robbie obviously had the highest profile female role in Quentin Tarantino s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, but the film also boosted the careers of some of its other actresses (including child star Julia Butters, who is now 10 years old). Many of the film s female stars portrayed members of the Manson Family, and the actress with the largest role within that group was Margaret Qualley (The Nice Guys, HBO s The Leftovers), who played the young lady who brought Brad Pitt s character to the Spahn Ranch. One of Qualley s next projects will be a psychological horror film called A Head Full of Ghosts, which will be an adaptation of a Bram Stoker Award-winning horror novel. A Head Full of Ghosts will be directed by Scott Cooper (Crazy Heart, Black Mass, Hostiles), who will soon be releasing another horror film, Antlers (4/17/2020).7. LIAM NEESON TO STAR AS AN ASSASSIN FOR CASINO ROYALE DIRECTOR (Photo by Maria Marin/©Sony Classics) Last year, Liam Neeson starred in the thriller Cold Pursuit as a snowplow driver, and he also recently wrapped filming on another similar movie, The Ice Road, as a truck driver like the ones on Ice Road Truckers. After so much time spent filming those movies in Canada, Neeson apparently told his agents to get him into a movie that will send him to sunnier climes, because that s what his latest apparently is. Liam Neeson is now attached to star as a world class assassin  in the crime thriller Memory for director Martin Campbell, whose past films have included both Green Lantern (Rotten at 26%) and Daniel Craig s first movie as James Bond, Casino Royale (Certified Fresh at 95%).8. ORIGINAL FIRST WIVES CLUB STARS TO REUNITE FOR FAMILY JEWELS The BET+ cable network recently started airing a First Wives Club show adapted from both the 1996 movie of the same title and, ostensibly, the novel from which that movie itself adapted. This story has less to do with First Wives Club itself, however, and more to do with the three actresses who starred in the 1996 movie together: Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn, and Bette Midler. As that movie nears its 25th anniversary (next year in 2021), its three leading ladies are now preparing to co-star in another comedy together. The movie will be called Family Jewels, and it s described as a multigenerational holiday comedy about three women who are forced to spend the holidays together after the death of the man to whom all three women were once married. The multigenerational part hints at a larger ensemble cast, but no other cast members, or the actor who will play their recently deceased ex-husband, have been announced yet.9. ANIMATED KIDS SHOW PAW PATROL COMING TO THEATERS IN AUGUST OF 2021 (Photo by Nickelodeon courtesy Everett Collection)Some animated kids shows are able to appeal to adults as well (SpongeBob SquarePants), and others bridge both audiences over time (Dora the Explorer did this, arguably), but then there are shows that seem to pretty much remain kids shows. One that seems like it s still solidly in the just for kids category (after seven seasons) is Nickelodeon s PAW Patrol. The show centers on a young boy who teams up with a variety of different dogs (some of whom can fly or have other cyborg parts) for a wide range of different rescue-related adventures. Paramount and Nickelodeon are now developing a CGI-animated feature-length Paw Patrol: The Movie, which is being scheduled for release sometime in August of 2021. The only other movie currently scheduled for that month is James Gunn s The Suicide Squad (8/6/2021). PAW Patrol: The Movie will be directed by Cal Brunker, whose previous animated features include The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature (Rotten at 14%), Escape from Planet Earth (Rotten at 35%), and Arctic Dogs (Rotten at 13%).10. ORPHAN TO GET PREQUEL FROM DIRECTOR OF BRAHMS: THE BOY II (Photo by Warner Bros. courtesy Everett Collection)The review embargo for this week s horror sequel Brahms: The Boy II wasn t lifted until today, and the film s Rotten Tomatometer score might offer a hint as to why. Getting ahead of the film s release, director William Brent Bell was able to get two other projects in the news this week before the reviews hit. The higher profile project is another follow up to a horror movie from a few years ago, except that this one is a prequel, and the movie it s following is far longer ago than 2015 s The Boy. Bell will next direct Esther, which will be a prequel to the 2009 horror film Orphan (Rotten at 56%). That role will almost certainly have to be recast, because Isabelle Fuhrmann, who played Esther in Orphan, is now 22 years old, and unlikely to pull off playing a nine-year-old girl again (especially in a prequel). Filming of Esther is expected to start in the third quarter of 2020, which means it will probably be released sometime in 2021. William Brent Bell is also attached to direct Lord of Misrule, which is described as being a contemporary folk horror film in the style of Midsommar or The Wicker Man.

For 2021, DC FanDome was a nearly four-hour livestream updating fans on the latest DC films, TV series, comics projects, and video games. Even just watching it for the film and TV content was a task worthy of Earth’s Mightiest Mortal, and categorizing the announcements is the sort of thing you might set Brainiac 5 to do. Nevertheless, we tried to live up to Shazam and Brainy, watching all of it and compiling everything related to film and television at DC FanDome 2021 from the look of Blue Beetle’s costume to Ace the Bat-Hound’s drinking habits. To say there is a lot of DC Entertainment material on the horizon is an understatement. Just take a look at what we learned:DC’s Film Roster Is Amazing: The Flash, Black Adam, And The Batman (Oh My!)DC Entertainment made a big push with its feature film slate this time around. With two films shooting, one completing production, and two in pre-production, there was a lot to talk about even if only The Batman had a proper trailer to unveil during the event.FanDome began with a look at Black Adam, featuring a scene of the title character (played by Dwayne Johnson) being awakened from millennia of slumber by archeologist Adrianna Tomaz (Sarah Shahi). Of course, her team of explorers came with an armed detachment, so bullets start flying and Adam calls down the lightning. Literally. Combined with some behind-the-scenes footage, it at least confirms that the film – in development for over a decade – will actually come out next year.Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom also offered some behind-the-scenes footage and a first-look at Black Manta’s (Yahya Abdul-Manteen II) upgraded costume. Eagle-eyed viewers also spotted a black variant of Arthur’s (Jason Momoa) classic costume. Shazam: Fury of the Gods also unveiled a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel with co-star Asher Angel confirming the end of principal photography. The film sees Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu playing goddesses arriving in Philadelphia to tangle with the Shazam Family. It s due out in 2023.(Photo by DC)Over on the HBO Max side of things, the principal creatives and stars of Batgirl and Blue Beetle offered the briefest of teases, including design art of the title characters’ respective costumes and a broad sense of what the films will be. Batgirl star Leslie Grace said the character is a “girly girl, but she’s capable and strong and determined… She’s sincere and wants to prove herself.” Co-director Adil El Arbi also confirmed the character will have red hair and use a cowl as part of her outfit (some recent Batgirl costumes favor goggles instead).“It’s going to be crazy, but it also has feelings,” Blue Beetle screenwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer said of the project. “It contains all that’s great about Blue Beetle.” Things like the scarab, Jaime Rodriguez’s (Xolo Maridueña) costume, and his family were referenced as key elements Dunnet-Alcocer and director Angel Manuel Soto wanted to bring to the screen. “He’s a Mexican-American kid who wants to be a part of this world, but he’s hitting the same obstacles a lot of us face,” the screenwriter said. He also added that the closeness of family is part of what sets him apart” from other superheroes – noting he has no way of keeping his suit or powers a secret from his parents.(Photo by DC)And as for the suit? “I know for a fact we have the best suit, and I haven’t seen it yet,” Maridueña said. There is one animated feature on the roster, DC League of Superpets, which sees Johnson giving voice to Krypto the Superdog while Kevin Hart voices Ace the Bat-Hound. In a brief clip, Ace can be seen, well, relieving himself while Krypto looks on in dismay. The film will also feature the voices of Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Keanu Reeves. It is set for release on May 20, 2022.(Photo by DC)But perhaps the most impactful presentation outside of The Batman trailer was the first-look at The Flash. The long-in-development film which has missed half-a-dozen release dates at this point – genuinely looks amazing from the footage director Andy Muschietti compiled for FanDome. For one thing, Barry’s (Ezra Miller) new suit(s) looks incredible, and the teases of Supergirl (Sasha Calle), Batman (Micheal Keaton), and a second Flash (also Miller) provided some of the best moments of the whole four-hour event. Capping it off: a shot of Barry examining the Batmobile as it hides under a tarp.Curiously, though, director Patty Jenkins offered no updates on Wonder Woman 3 while chatting with Lynda Carter about the character s 80th anniversary, other than to reconfirm she is working on it.HBO Max Is The New Center Of The DC MultiverseIf there’s one thing this year’s FanDome made clear, it is that HBO Max is the new hubworld for DC’s expansive multiverse. Beyond Batgirl and Blue Beetle’s eventual debuts on the service, Pennyworth – previously an Epix exclusive – will be moving to Max for its third season late in 2022. The previous two seasons will become available to subscribers early next year.Additionally, most of the DC Universe orphans Max adopted  Titans, Doom Patrol, and Harley Quinn  will return for subsequent seasons next year with fourth seasons of Titans and Doom Patrol confirmed at the event. Harley Quinn will return “sometime in 2022,” according to Harley (Kaley Cuoco) herself. The last of the rescued DC Universe shows, Young Justice, debuted two episodes of its fourth season (subtitled “Phantoms ) on Max immediately after FanDome concluded. If all of those shows weren’t enough, Peacemaker’s premiere date was also announced during FanDome: January 13, 2022. Creator James Gunn also unveiled a teaser trailer which suggests Peacemaker (John Cena) may actually grow a little on his next adventure. That said, the star said the hardest part of playing the character is “becoming a super a hole. I’m usually a regular a hole.” Gunn wrote all eight episodes and directed five, extending his time in the DC Multiverse. In fact, Cena expressed a wish to continue playing Peacemaker in subsequent seasons, which may mean more of Gunn’s sensibility in the future.Although HBO Max’s focus is on the DC superheroes, it will also be the home of DMZ, a four-part limited series based on a comic published by DC Comics now-defunct Vertigo imprint. Ava DuVernay directs Roberto Patino’s adaptation of the book, which stars Rosario Dawson as an outsider who may tip the scales in the US’s second civil war.But for all the hour-long live action DC shows calling HBO Max home, Green Lantern was conspicuously absent from FanDome. The program, from Arrowverse mastermind Greg Berlanti, is set to star Jeremy Irvine as Golden Age Green Lantern Alan Scott and Finn Wittrock as 1980s fan-favorite Guy Gardner and sees the characters in their respective time periods facing social issues and weird space threats. Also absent: Berlanti’s Strange Adventures anthology series, first announced at HBO Max’s initial public unveiling, and any mention of J.J. Abrams’ live-action projects.Batman: The Animated Series Is Getting A Spiritual Successor(Photo by Everett Collection)One project Abrams did promote, though, is the upcoming Batman: Caped Crusader. Produced and developed by Abrams, Batman: The Animated Series’ Bruce Timm, long time DC animation executive producer James Tucker, and The Batman director Matt Reeves, the series will go back to what Timm called the “original principles” of Batman: TAS with fewer broadcast restrictions. Set in the early days of Batman’s war on crime, it will feature a version of the character who uses Bruce Wayne as a mask to hide his activities as the Caped Crusader.“It’s just Batman,” added Reeves. “No Justice League.”And because the series takes place so early on in his career, animated Batman audiences will see him in a lower-tech situation than usual. According to Tucker, “We find him discovering these things.” That means viewers may see several iterations of the Batmobile and, quite possibly, the trial-and-error involved in creating Batarangs. Tucker added that as the series begins, no one trusts the Batman and vice-versa. He also teased that some of the Dark Knight’s traditional relationships may not form. “Nothing is assumed in this series,” he said.Reeves and Timm agreed the series will lean heavily in to the 1940s noir style, but the characters will be more modern in terms of inclusivity. Timm also added that the program will be, overall “more Batman: The Animated Series than Batman: The Animated Series.” It is unclear when the series will debut, but it will be available on both Cartoon Network and HBO Max.Caped Crusdaer isn’t the only word on DC animation, though, with an HBO Max Superman animated series, My Adventures with Superman, in production, the preschool-targeted Batwheels preparing for release, the currently running Aquaman: King of Atlantis, and a stellar upcoming lineup in the dependable DC Animated Movie direct-to-video range.Indeed, DC FanDome was the occasion to debut a trailer for Catwoman: Hunted, an upcoming DC Animated Movie featuring Elizabeth Gillies as Catwoman and Stephanie Beatriz as Batwoman. The pair must team up to take down the organization known as Leviathan in a stylish, anime take on the characters. Other DC Animated Movies set for release in 2022 include Green Lantern: Beware My Powers, Battle of the Super Sons, and a compilation of the 2022 DC Showcase shorts headlined by Constantine: The House of Mystery. Matt Ryan will, of course, reprise his role as magician and con man John Constantine. Before all of that, though, is the release of Injustice, a DC Animated Movie based on the video game and comic book of the same name. During FanDome, a clip was released featuring Joker’s (Kevin Pollak) “masterpiece” – a brutal act of violence which sets Superman (voiced by Justin Hartley) on a dark path. The scene is surprisingly grim and offers those less familiar with the DC Universe Animated line an idea of the sorts of films available. Injustice debuts on home video platforms this Tuesday.Gwendoline Christie Leans Into The Bowie Look For Sandman’s LuciferAlthough not part of the HBO Max lineup, The Sandman received a little recognition via the debut of Gwendoline Christie’s Lucifer in a first-look photo. The image recalls the Bowie-esque appearance the Prince of Darkness assumed in his first Sandman comic book appearance. Its unclear if Christie will keep the look in subsequent appearances or evolve like her comic book counterpart. Curiously, though, Lucifer’s initial androgyny gave way to a more masculine countenance as The Sandman’s story wore on. Perhaps that will also be part of the changes writer Neil Gaiman and his collaborators have in mind for the adaptation of his comic book.Shortly after the Lucifer reveal, Gaiman took to Twitter to clarify that the series will debut on Netflix sometime in 2022. Initial messaging about the series suggested it could launch in late 2021, leading to some confusion and Gaiman’s exasperation in the tweet.DC’s other Netflix-based show, Sweet Tooth, was represented by star Christian Convery answering fan questions. The program, already renewed for a second season, will also remain on Netflix.Barry Will Finally Get Gold Boots On The Flash TV SeriesIn one of the earliest announcements of the event, The Flash TV series star Grant Gustin revealed Barry is finally getting gold boots like his comic book counterpart. “It’s always been the final element that I think has been missing from our suits,” Gustin said. “The suit we have now is the closest we have to a lot of the [comic book] iterations … but I always thought the gold boots would be the final touch.” DC released a close-up image of the boots and a look at the suit with the footwear added. As Gustin intimated, the boots have long been a running joke behind the scenes. They will debut when The Flash begins its eighth season in November.Beyond the long-awaited kicks, the Arrowverse was also represented at DC FanDome via an assortment of special videos. Batwoman stars Javicia Leslie and Rachel Skarsten teased Batwoman and Alice’s state-enforced team-up while the cast of Supergirl looked back their six seasons. DC’s Legends of Tomorrow celebrated 100 episodes in 100 seconds and the cast of Superman and Lois presented a tour of the Kent farmhouse. And although not technically an Arrowverse show (it takes place on the Post-Crisis Earth-2, after all), Stargirl took an extended look at this week’s upcoming episode, which sees Courtney (Brec Bassinger) trapped in the Shadow Lands, where she runs into the Golden Age Dr. Mid-Nite (Alex Collins). But to cap off the Arrowverse presence at FanDome, Naomi star Kaci Walfall debuted a first look at the program, in which she stars as a high schooler who discovers her connection to the DC Multiverse is more staggering than she can imagine. And as the scene shown during FanDome revealed, it all begins with a Superman sighting.Naomi will debut on The CW sometime in 2022.On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News.

It’s been 14 years since the release of Borat, which was among the most acclaimed (91% on the Tomatometer) and highest-grossing movies of 2006, as well as an eventual Oscar nominee, and now we’re getting an unexpected sequel. Sacha Baron Cohen is back as the titular fake reporter from Kazakhstan in Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, debuting this weekend exclusively on Amazon Prime. Is it very nice, as he would say? Initial reviews indicate that yes, the follow-up mostly lives up to the original in its shock and hilarity while actually surprising viewers with its tenderness and especially a scene-stealing newcomer who plays Borat’s daughter. Here’s what critics are saying about Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm:Does it live up to the original?Every bit as hysterically funny and shockingly outrageous as its predecessor.  Doug Jamieson, The Jam ReportA laugh-out-loud-funny sequel that s every bit the equal of — and arguably something more than — its 2006 predecessor.  Peter Canavese, Groucho ReviewsA hilarious endeavor not far removed from the hijinks and antics of its predecessor.  Nate Adams, The Only CriticA parody on par with the original… Borat has lost none of his bite.  Peter Debruge, VarietyThe rare comedy follow-up to equal the hilarity, and outraged power, of its predecessor.  Nick Schager, The Daily BeastIt doesn’t have the full capacity to land like the original did, but it’s most definitely a worthy follow-up.  Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendIs Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm as good as the original? No. It’s certainly not. It isn’t really in the same league. But is that even really a fair question?  Matt Oakes, Silver Screen RiotFalls short of its imperfect but zeitgeist-grabbing 2006 predecessor in several ways.  John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter(Photo by ©Amazon)Is it more of the same?Does Borat still say mai waif, and is it still funny? The answer, for the most part, is yes. Jon Dieringer, Screen SlateAll you want to do is see Borat cause chaos…. When he does so, it’s still pretty spectacular. Kyle Pinion, ScreenRexThe film is entertaining, but that’s what you’d expect from Cohen. However, the film can’t escape from its lack of originality. Dewey Singleton, AwardsWatchBorat 2 is largely the same design, slightly tweaked for a modern age, but never as politically or socially relevant as you’d expect. Rodrigo Perez, The PlaylistHow is it different? It’s applied more purposefully and selectively this time around, with a partisan political bent absent from the original feature’s free-for-all offending. Charles Bramesco, Little White LiesMore than half of the film’s gotcha scenes feature him donning cartoonishly American disguises… Even with this hindrance, Borat’s central gimmick continues to work astoundingly well. Nick Schager, The Daily BeastWhat elevates moments of the sequel above the original movie is that there are sketches that prove to be endearing. Ian Sandwell, Digital SpyThere is actual heart in this film… It adds a compelling tonal complexity to the piece that also enhances the themes without getting in the way of the comedy. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendUnlike the first movie, this outrageous sequel actually manages to show off the best [that humanity has to offer] as well. Charlie Ridgeley, ComicBook.com(Photo by ©Amazon)But is it different enough to convert new fans?Offensive, frequently shocking and often breathtaking… for Borat fans, that’ll be very nice. For anyone else, you need to stay as far away as possible because it s not for you. Ian Sandwell, Digital SpyThere are a couple of cringe-worthy moments, depending on how much of Cohen’s crude humor you’re willing to put up with. Matt Rodriguez, ShakefireIs it funny?I haven’t laughed this hard at a film in years… [It] contains one of the funniest sequences ever committed to film. Doug Jamieson, The Jam ReportIt s every bit as nerve-wracking as it is funny, and it happens to be one of the funniest films in years. Charlie Ridgeley, ComicBook.comThose on Cohen s wavelength will savor each of these 96 minutes, with a joke rate that blows even Airplane! out of the water. Peter Canavese, Groucho ReviewsThere’s no limit to how far Cohen will go, and while it’s funny, it’s also terrifying knowing that there are people out there who truly believe his character. Matt Rodriguez, ShakefireHow is Maria Bakalova as Borat s daughter?Maria Bakalova is everything that the movie needs. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendMatching Cohen for each pound of flesh, Bakalova is a revelation. Matt Oakes, Silver Screen RiotBrilliant… She brings a freshness that is sometimes lacking from Borat s repeated catchphrases. Ian Sandwell, Digital SpyOne of the most fearless performances in screen comedy history. Charles Bramesco, Little White LiesBaron Cohen’s film also contains a strong feminist message thanks to the introduction of the brilliant newcomer Marina Bakalova. Linda Marric, The Jewish Chronicle(Photo by ©Amazon)Are the unscripted segments satisfying? The film’s meat-and-potatoes candid camera stunts are more of a mixed bag. Jon Dieringer, Screen SlateScripted scenes together don t work quite as well as when they re pranking people. Ian Sandwell, Digital SpyI found myself disappointed by the relative lack of Cohen’s unscripted brilliance. Matt Oakes, Silver Screen RiotThe dispiriting truth is that Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm’s staged pranks can’t compete with our awful reality. Josh Larsen, LarsenOnFilmIt’s important to acknowledge that in an era of deep fakes, it’s not always clear what Baron Cohen got away with and what has been shaped in the editing room.
