After my first viewing of 42, I remember being enthralled with Chadwick because he made me feel like I finally knew Robinson beyond what I had learned of him through documentaries and books. I left the theater with a greater appreciation for someone who had already had such a significant impact on my life long after his death. I can only imagine how seeing 42 as a child would have further inspired me, connecting me to an ancestor by reminding me that it was a flesh-and-blood human being who did these extraordinary things. It brings me great joy to know my child and so many other children will have this humanized, knowable version of Robinson thanks to Chadwick’s incredible performance. The same can be said for his portrayal of Civil Right activist and eventual Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in Marshall. Chadwick brought the same personable touch he displayed in 42 to a man who had always been larger than life for my entire existence because of his impact during and well after the Civil Rights Movement.Chadwick brought an incredible degree of care, and purpose, to the table when he took on such legendary roles. In interviews, he discussed his understanding of the impact these heroes had and what they meant to us; on screen you can feel the responsibility he felt playing them. He was such a gifted vessel, bringing such a humanity to these figures without making them feel any smaller than their places in history. It’s easier to connect and learn from those who came before you when you can see parts of yourself in them. Chadwick knew this.(Photo by ©Warner Bros. Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)While his depictions of real-life heroes hold great significance, and earned him great acclaim, his most powerful work came from a fictional character whom he made feel real as these legendary men.Chadwick Boseman will be remembered mostly by young Black children as T Challa, the Black Panther. The humility he brought to this powerful character made him relatable in ways that inspired record-breaking numbers of moviegoers. He made the Black Panther indestructible to time. The world of Black Panther became something incredibly special thanks to Chadwick and everyone involved in bringing its characters to life. Because of Chadwick and his fellow creatives, Wakanda is no longer just this fictional place, it s a connection for all of us across the diaspora to come together to celebrate each other and share joy in what this level of representation meant collectively and individually. You may remember the many campaigns created to raise money to take children to see Black Panther in theaters; these educators, parents, and others understood the importance of what it means for kids to see people who look like them being superheroes. These ordinary people became heroes within their communities. The way the young, the old, and everyone in between dressed in costumes or their Sunday Best to go to the movies in celebration is something I will never forget. And the beauty of it all is that the momentum continues. For years to come, Black Panther will continue to release the energy it absorbed through our jubilant commemoration of it, just like the suit Chadwick wore on screen.(Photo by D. Stevens/©Universal Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection)I am so happy that, as a community, we celebrated Black Panther the way we did and never reined in our love. I hope Chadwick felt the force of that love and that thoughts of it brought him some comfort when he needed it most. I hope when he made his walk into the ancestral planes to take his place alongside long-lost loved ones and the legends he immortalized, he was enveloped with the same love and passion he left for us here on the other side.I hope he knows that he inspired so many to be the hero of their own stories because we were all able to witness him be the hero of his own.

(Photo by Dimension Films/courtesy Everett Collection)All Hayao Miyazaki Movies RankedBeyond the awards, beyond the box office, how do you know the films of Hayao Miyazaki are beloved and universal the world over? Scroll through his filmography on Rotten Tomatoes and you ll find nary a Rotten rating. In fact, there isn t even anything below 80%! It s a sign of how far-reaching and influential his works are, made alongside his band of mad, merry animators at Studio Ghibli, whose tales of empathy, kindness, and bravery touch far beyond the borders of Japan.Though Miyazaki is synonymous with Studio Ghibli, here we re focusing only on his efforts as a feature film director, which started in earnest even before Ghibli was formed. 1979 s Castle of Cagliostro was a calling card that a talent had broken through the ranks of TV (where he had worked for two decades as an animator), adapting the long-running Lupin the 3rd charater into a rousing, action-packed heist adventure. By the time Miyazaki s next feature came out, 1984 s Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Studio Ghibli was up and running to deliver everything the film required, elements that would become Miyazaki s trademarks: a female-centric story, fleets of airborne transportation, plenty of lush flora and cute fauna, and an ecological bent exploring man s frequently destructive relationship with nature. What followed was a veritable hit parade of classics: Castle in the Sky, the closest Miyazaki ever got to working in Spielberg mode; Kiki s Delivery Service, a sweet and charming coming-of-age witch story; Porco Rosso, a deeply romantic tale of cursed pigs and dogfights over the Adriatic; and Princess Mononoke, the violent action epic of the war between the natural world and human technological progress. It all reached its arguable cultural zenith with Spirited Away, the Alice in Wonderland-esque tale of a young girl lost in a world of spirits, which won the Best Animated Feature Oscar and topped our list of 140 Essential Animated Movies ever.Miyazaki has spent the last two decades oscillating between retirement and returning to Studio Ghibli every time the pull of delivering another animated masterpiece became too strong (it s appreciated!), giving the world the likes of Howl s Moving Castle, Ponyo, and The Wind Rises. He s currently back in not-retired mode, working since 2016 on How Do You Live?, an adaptation of the 1937 children s novel of the same name. As Miyazaki turns 80, we rank all of his movies by Tomatometer!

3.73.9 8月喜迎With Thanos (Josh Brolin) presumably neutralized at the conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, it will be time to introduce a new Big Bad for the surviving members of the team to confront in two-to-four years time. And if Marvel Studios continues to import things from the comics, it is possible that character will appear in an Endgame stinger scene, much the same way Thanos flashed his winning smile at the conclusion of the first Avengers film.Considering the studio has trained us so well to anticipate the next big thing before the current story’s end, let’s take a look at some potential foes the Avengers — in what ever form they take after Endgame — may face. Some may be familiar faces while others are only possible thanks to Disney s purchase of 20th Century Fox. But all would be formidable foes in Phase 4.Baron Mordo(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)First Comic Book Appearance: Strange Tales #111First MCU Appearance: Doctor StrangeBig Bad Potential: Like Loki (Tom Hiddleston) before him, Mordo could emerge as a much larger player in the MCU thanks to the talents of actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mordo’s brand of binary justice. Those sorts of characters inevitably clash with funky teams like the Avengers. As seen in the Doctor Strange post-credit scene, he has determined the mystic arts corrupt all who use them and that he must eliminate all remaining sorcerers. Of course, that suggests he will come after Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) sooner than later, like in the Doctor Strange sequel. But complete defeat may not be in his future and his use of the Living Tribunal’s staff may lead him to amass more power to further to his cause. At that point, he would be an Avengers-level opponent.(Photo by © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)First Comic Book Appearance: Journey Into Mystery #101First MCU Appearance: Thor: RagnarokBig Bad Potential: Continuing with the Loki theory of Big Bads emerging from established antagonists, Hela (Cate Blanchett) is a worthy adversary for the team — particularly if Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is not around to help them defeat her. She’s an accomplished fighter who wiped out the Warriors Three and most of the Asgardian defense forces with hardly a sweat. She is also powerful enough to destroy Mjolnir. Of course, there is one pesky problem with this potential Big Bad: she’s dead. Killed by Surtur during the final battle in Asgard, she would seemingly be unavailable. But then, consider the way the gods of Asgard experience death and rebirth. Loki regularly cheats death and he’s but a mere trickster. She is the god of death, and presumably has a say in how long she rests in peace outside the nine realms.Considering it took destroying one of those realms to stop her last time, the Avengers would need a lot of extra strength to even hold her in a stalemate.Doctor Doom(Photo by @ 20th Century Fox )First Comic Book Appearance: Fantastic Four #5First MCU Appearance: N/A, but he has debuted three times in three different attempts at starting a Fantastic Four film series.Big Bad Potential: With Disney’s recent purchase of the 20th Century Fox film studio, the film rights to The Fantastic Four revert to Marvel. And even though Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has said they will not use the X-Men for a long time, that does not mean there isn’t room for one of the greatest Marvel villains to make his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. For instance, there is a Doctor Doom film script written by Legion executive producer Noah Hawley while Fox was still in control of the character. Hawley even recently said that Feige asked about the script in the run-up to the Disney/Fox deal closing. He described the story as a something of a political thriller with Doom already established as the ruler of Latveria. Which would make him a markedly different threat than any other that the Avengers have faced. What do you do when your enemy is not only a world leader, but one beloved by his people? The team would have to fight a war of perception as much as fight with their powers. And that s a pretty appealing reason to integrate the character into the MCU, even if the other former Fox-controlled properties sit on the bench.Fin Fang Foom And/Or The Mandarin(Photo by @ Marvel Comics, Strange Tales #89)First Comic Book Appearance: Strange Tales #89 (Foom), Tales of Suspense #50 (The Mandarin)First MCU Appearance: N/A, though an image of Foom appears in Iron Man. Trevor Slattery (Ben Kingsley) and Aldrich Killian (Guy Pearce) both claimed to be the Mandarin in Iron Man 3, but as the Marvel One-Shot released with the film on Blu-ray revealed, the true Mandarin has yet to be seen.Big Bad Potential: Predating Marvel Comics superheroes by a handful of years, Foom was one of the monsters created by Jack Kirby and he is just a delight to behold. Initially presented as a dragon of Chinese legend, Foom was later revealed to be an alien shapeshifter after he was finally integrated into the Marvel Universe in the 1970s. While the rest of his alien brethren set out to conquer the world early in human history, Foom, as the navigator of their starship, laid dormant for centuries. Eventually, his ship was discovered by a man who stole 10 sophisticated control rings from the ship and set himself up as The Mandarin. Foom eventually woke up and caused plenty of trouble for superheroes across the planet. The Mandarin entered MCU history in Iron Man 3 while the Ten Rings debuted as a terrorist organization in the first Iron Man film. But Foom represents a much larger threat should a defeated Mandarin awaken him from his long slumber to challenge the Avengers. It is the kind of villain team-up we ve always wanted to see. But it also implies the Mandarin is a foe worthy of the team s attention. We re already convinced he will be the villain in Shang-Chi, so it is entirely possible he will pose a worldwide threat in the not-too distant future. Provided, of course, Marvel wants a more human Big Bad with a pet dragon.Adam Warlock(Photo by @ Marvel Comics, The Infinity Watch #1)First Comic Book Appearance: Fantastic Four #66-67 (as “Him”), Marvel Premiere #1 (as Adam Warlock)First MCU Appearance: The cocoon seen at the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is probably a gestating Adam Warlock. He was supposed to appear in the film at one point.Big Bad Potential: Hear us out. While typically presented as a protagonist, Adam Warlock has made some questionable choices in the pages of Marvel Comics, particularly when in possession of the Infinity Stones. And presuming the Infinity Stones are not destroyed by the conclusion of Endgame, it is possible he will end up with them and attempt to purge the universe of evil, as he once attempted to purge the evil within his own soul, creating a version of himself known as the Magus, in the comics. The consequences on a universal scale could be disastrous. And perhaps, unlike Thanos, this change will be initially imperceptible to our heroes. It would be something of a slow burn for the overall MCU film series, which may be a nice change of pace after Endgame. The Celestials(Photo by Chuck Zlotnick/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)First Comic Book Appearance: Eternals #2First MCU Appearance: Guardians of the GalaxyBig Bad Potential: Thanos has set the precedent for Big Bads in the MCU, but there is always the possibility for Marvel Studios to go bigger. How does one go bigger than the Mad Titan? Well, there are the Celestials. These are beings of immense power. One is shown wielding the Power Stone when Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) and Gamora (Zoe Saldana) visit the Collector (Benicio Del Toro) in Guardians of the Galaxy. Peter’s own father Ego (Kurt Russell) lists himself as a member of the cosmic-level race.Back in the comics, the Celestials are a key component of the Marvel Universe’s secret origin. They went from planet to planet creating beings like the Eternals — soon to be featured in their own Marvel Studios film — Deviants, and others. Their tinkering led to the Skrull ability to shapeshift and, ultimately, the appearance of superheroes on Earth.Though humanoid, they tend to appear around 2,000 feet tall to human eyes. And in the pages of Marvel Comics, they are said to be indestructible, with the few who have been defeated instantly regenerating. That power may make them too absurd of an opponent for the Avengers, but then again, Ego was defeated and Knowhere, the space port where the Collector kept his collection, is said to be the skull of a dead Celestial. So while they may be more vulnerable in the MCU, just one of their number would post quite a challenge to the Avengers.Galactus(Photo by © Marvel Comics, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #6)First Comic Book Appearance: Fantastic Four #48First MCU Appearance: N/A, though he did make an appearance as an alien death cloud in Fox’s Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.Big Bad Potential: If there is one certainty in big budget studio filmmaking, it is this: Galactus will be a MCU Big Bad in the fullness of time. It is only a matter of when. One of the early cosmic-level entities devised by Jack Kirby and Stan Lee, Galactus famously came to Earth to consume all its energies to satiate his enormous appetite. But in a curious twist, this does not make him inherently evil. Like all sentient life in the universe, he must consume other life to survive. Unfortunately for the rest of us, he exists on such a massive scale that a planet like Earth is a good dinner. This definitely sets him apart from Thanos as the Avengers — and likely the Fantastic Four — would have to weigh their consciences between stopping him and respecting the right for such a being to survive. Also, as with his comic book appearances, the heroes will have to come up with a pretty clever reason for him to skip his Earth-sized meal. But will all of that compel Feige to steer a MCU Galactus toward Earth in the near-future? That remains to be seen. As with the X-Men, Galactus may be a character not included in the five-year plan the studio will reveal after the release of Endgame. At the same time, he is the sort of character who could be seeded as early as Endgame’s stinger scenes and lay in wait, like Thanos, across the span of six years. As we said before, Galactus is an eventuality.Like this? Subscribe to our newsletter and get more features, news, and guides in your inbox every week.
(Photo by Paramount Vantage, 20th Century Fox, Universal Pictures)“Know Your Critic” is a new column in which we interview Tomatometer-approved critics about their screening and reviewing habits, pet peeves, and personal favorites. When David Fear moved to New York 16 years ago, he was intending to continue freelance writing and keep his “day job.” Fate had other plans. He decided to move from California on a Friday, and on the following Monday, a position opened up at entertainment and “things-to-do” magazine, Time Out New York. When it came time for his move across the country, things fell right into place: By the time he got the call for an interview, he could already tell them his new address in the city.“You can be a film critic anywhere,” he told Rotten Tomatoes, “but there really is something about being in New York and being at the Film Forum, seeing a recently restored version or our print of Army of Shadows that you really just kind of feel like, Oh, I m in Film Nerd Heaven.”David Fear is now a Senior Editor and critic at Rolling Stone, and the former Film Editor of Time Out New York. What’s your personal record for most movies seen in a day? When I was younger and much, much more full of piss and vinegar, I think I did a six-film day at Sundance once. It might have been my first or second Sundance back in 2004, 2005. I don t recommend it.If you ate six meals in a day, they could be the greatest meals in the world. They could be five-star chef meals. But you ve stopped tasting it after a while and it just becomes shoveling food into your mouth and going, Oh my God, when is this going to end? I found that when I would start doing more than three, maybe four movies a day at a festival, I would stop tasting the food.Do you prefer 3-D or non–3-D screenings?Do you even have to ask that? I ve actually gone out of my way to see to 2-D screenings because, here s the thing, with very rare exceptions, there s only really three movies that you absolutely, positively need to see in 3-D.There’s really no point to seeing Avatar unless you’re seeing it in 3-D. It s a bad movie, but how he uses 3-D to really immerse you in a bad movie that he s made is remarkably impressive. Are you pro– or anti–note-taking?I don t understand how you can do this gig and not take notes. If you re really serious about potentially wanting to do this, practice writing stuff in a notebook without looking at your notebook. I m very, very pro-note taking – so long as it s not with one of those light pens. Man, f k those light pens. You’re sitting down to write. Would you prefer a shot of espresso or alcohol? What’s your spirit of choice?Espresso for writing and then bourbon for transcribing. It makes the activity of transcribing so much less painful.
M. Night Shyamalan seems to have delivered the first disappointment of 2019 with Glass, the much-anticipated sequel to both 2000’s Unbreakable and 2017’s Split. The first two installments, which stand mostly alone from one another, were received rather positively (69% and 76% Tomatometer scores, respectively, with the latter Certified Fresh). Unfortunately, Glass, which stars Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Sarah Paulson, looks to be another one of Shyamalan’s duds (initial score: 40%) based on the buzz from initial reviews. Here’s what the critics are saying about Glass:Does it meet expectations?Glass is a major disappointment. Germain Lussier, io9Shyamalan always swings for the fences… This time, though, it’s a swing and a miss. Alissa Wilkinson, VoxGlass shatters under the weight of Shyamalan’s ambition. It’s a messy, muddled, often downright stupid movie. It broke my heart. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmThe movie, watchable as it is, is still a disappointment… more dutiful than necessary. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyOne of the biggest personal disappointments I’ve ever experienced in a theater. Mike Ryan, UproxxIs it not satisfying to see the gang all together?Instead of having his two earlier movies dovetail to create something deeper and richer, it quickly begins to feel like subtraction by addition. Chris Nashawaty, Entertainment WeeklyIn Unbreakable, David and Elijah went together like a lock and key. Here, everyone feels like spare parts. David Ehrlich, IndieWireIts first hurdle is telling a story that connects everything in a satisfying, logical way. To that end, the film succeeds…the film’s first act is absolutely excellent. Germain Lussier, io9(Photo by Universal Pictures)Will die-hard comic book fans appreciate it?Glass certainly feels like it’s made by someone who both hates superhero movies and also has never seen one. Mike Ryan, UproxxPrice’s adulations of comic tropes… [feel] as if they were scripted by someone who’s only read a few comic books and is pretty sure they know what they’re about. Alissa Wilkinson, VoxAlthough he’s made three movies about them, Shyamalan doesn’t actually seem to know much about comic books, and he’s certainly got nothing to say about their journey to cultural dominance.  Sam Adams, SlateI’m sure M. Night Shyamalan has read some comic books in his day. I do sometimes wonder how many, though.  Matt Singer, ScreenCrushIs it full of Shyamalan s trademark twists? This one will not start, or go, or end like you think. Vinnie Mancuso, Collider[There are] a bunch of big reveals to unmask Scooby Doo style and a greater universe to ta-da! unfurl like one of his many, not-always-successful magic tricks.  Rodrigo Perez, The PlaylistAnd the ending?I can also confidently predict that the ending is going to piss more than a few people off. Vinnie Mancuso, Collider[Glass] throws its own three-film buildup under the bus for the sake of a twist and an open-ended non-resolution that can be seen coming down the pike from miles away. Karen Han, PolygonGlass is a good ending to the Unbreakable trilogy, but it may not give you the conclusion you were hoping for. You ll probably either love or hate the ending. Kirsten Acuna, InsiderThat ending— which can’t really be explained, for lack of time, space, and to avoid spoilers— is really something, but suffice it to say, it’s a bit baffling. Rodrigo Perez, The Playlist(Photo by Universal Pictures)What about the positives? It’s not a bad film. Don Kaye, Den of GeekGlass is still a spectacle, but in a singularly un-Marvel manner… Think The Flash getting caught in a traffic jam or The Hulk filing a W-2. Vinnie Mancuso, ColliderGlass feels like a giant middle finger to the very people who would be excited to see Glass. That, on its own, is inherently fascinating. Mike Ryan, UproxxEach time Glass seems like a lost cause, Shyamalan pulls something truly affecting out of his hat. Karen Han, PolygonThere is enough experimentation — such as the stirring POV shots during the fight scenes — that shows a director still pushing his craft to bring his viewers something new. He’s not done surprising us. Monica Castillo, The WrapGlass looks great… Shyamalan and cinematographer Mike Gioulakis compose each frame — sharp and crisp — with a careful offness. Richard Lawson, Vanity FairHow is Bruce Willis return as David Dunn?Willis is phoning in his performance. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmJackson and Willis fit back into their older characters like well-worn gloves, both of them knowing what to do and how to move, although Willis gets less to do than the others. Don Kaye, Den of Geek(Photo by Universal Pictures)And Samuel L. Jackson as Mr. Glass?Jackson is clearly having a blast playing such a devious character. But it’s almost too little, too late. Chris Evangelista, Slashfilm[Jackson is] devilishly fun as Mr. Glass but is ultimately only given a few moments to truly shine. In a movie called Glass, you wish there was more of him. Germain Lussier, io9Although the movie is named after his character, Jackson really doesn’t shine until its final third. He’s delightful in a maniacally sinister way. Monica Castillo, The WrapFor a good third of the film, Jackson outacts anyone sharing his scenes without even saying a word. Kirsten Acuna, InsiderIs James McAvoy still amazing as The Horde ?He’s more fun to watch now that he doesn’t have to be the whole show. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyMcAvoy is once again top notch. He lights up the screen with his eerie physicality every time he appears, and cascades crazily through the Horde’s personalities like a human radio with a dial that can’t stop spinning. Don Kaye, Den of GeekMcAvoy’s acting abilities… are pretty extraordinary, considering we meet even more of Kevin’s many personalities this time around. Germain Lussier, io9(Photo by Universal Pictures)How are the action scenes?Every clash between David Dunn and The Beast is bone-crunchingly satisfying. Vinnie Mancuso, ColliderThe action sequences in Glass are the best of the filmmaker’s career. Chris Evangelista, Slashfilm[There is] a fight scene that’s filmed with all the excitement of a knitting circle. David Ehrlich, IndieWireAt least we can always enjoy the first two movies, right?[Glass] manages to diminish both Unbreakable and Split in retrospect. Alissa Wilkinson, VoxShyamalan now takes a huge, unfortunate step backwards, tarnishing the legacy of Unbreakable, his best movie, in the process. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmGlass opens everywhere on January 18.

Like Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut before it, Zack Snyder s Justice League reflects (for the most part) the original intentions for the film as it was devised during its production in 2016. In the years since, both the DC Films initiative and Warner Bros. Pictures have undergone tremendous shifts in priorities, leadership, and even corporate owners – AT T s desires for a superhero universe do not exactly align with the ones director Zack Snyder and former DC Films bosses Geoff Johns and Jon Berg intended to build. As a consequence, the four-hour epic Snyder released on HBO Max this week is filled with ghosts of that abandoned cinematic universe.Recommended: Zack Snyder Talks Cyborg, Joker and Batman, and FandomRecommended: Zack Snyder s Justice League First Reviews Are In Recommended: Costume Designer Michael Wilkinson Breaks Down the Justice League LooksJoin us now as we take a look at those ghosts, where they were meant to lead, and what s become of those possible stories in the current WarnerMedia DC Films paradigm. It Established Darkseid As The Villain Of the Justice League Sequels(Photo by HBO Max)As seen in Zack Snyder s Justice League, Darkseid – the undisputed ruler of Apokalips – is the real menace at the core of Snyder s plans. Part 2 would have seen the League teaming with the Green Lantern Corps to make a preemptive strike against the Alpha Predator. Their attempt would have ended in defeat with the third film taking place in a world where Lois is dead, Superman is in Darkseid s thrall, and the Batman plots a time travel quest to prevent the Great Darkness from sweeping the Earth. The finale would have seen all the heroes and military might of the planet uniting against Darkseid.Currently, there are no plans for another Justice League. Snyder s interest in returning to superhero films seems to rise and fall with each interview he gives. Darkseid, meanwhile, is slated to be the primary antagonist of Ava DuVernay s New Gods film, which will likely re-imagine the Mother Boxes, the Anti-Life Equation, and all the other New God elements utilized in the Snyder Cut.It Positioned Deathstroke As the Dark Knight s Foe in The Batman (Photo by HBO Max)Where the theatrical version of Justice League saw Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) and Deathstroke (Joe Manganiello) plotting a league of their own, Snyder s version featured a very different twist on the scene. To make Deathstroke s visit worth his time, Lex gave him the civilian identity of the Batman (Ben Affleck). The tease undoubtedly would have led to a confrontation between Batman and Deathstroke in The Batman. At the time the scene was filmed, Affleck was planning to direct, co-write, and star in that project. Early on, word broke indicating Deathstroke would be his main adversary. In light of the Snyder Cut scene, it is clear the plot would have seen Slade Wilson (Deathstroke s real name) systematically destroying Bruce Wayne. That s a really great idea for a film and we re sad the changes in studio priorities and Affleck s very valid need to walk away prevented it from happening. After Affleck departed from the director s chair, Matt Reeves took over The Batman and re-conceived it as a year-two tale with Robert Pattinson playing a younger version of the character. It is due for release on March 4, 2022.Manganiello, meanwhile, tried to keep the Deathstroke dream alive. The plan would ve included an appearance in a Suicide Squad sequel and a solo film. At one point, The Raid: Redemption s Gareth Evans was in discussions about the film, but it evaporated some time ago. Then, the original plans for the Suicide Squad sequel, to be directed by The Accountant s Gavin O Connor, changed into James Gunn s The Suicide Squad. In the fullness of time, Deathstroke will get a meaty role in a DC film someday. It just won t look like anything Snyder planted in his Justice League. It Built Cyborg Up For A Solo Adventure(Photo by HBO Max)Key to Snyder s vision was setting up Cyborg s (Ray Fisher) solo adventure. So much so, he went to great pains to embed the character s origin into Justice League so the first Cyborg film could tell a completely new story. That film was intended for release in 2020, but no creative team ever emerged to shepherd it through development. For years, the only person attached to the project was Fisher himself. Then, last summer, the actor began a campaign to reveal abuses allegedly perpetrated by Joss Whedon, who directed the Justice League reshoots in the summer of 2017. Although it is clear something occurred during that photography, stepping forward ultimately cost Fisher a role in the upcoming feature film version of The Flash and any chance of starring in his own film.Although, considering the film was announced in 2014 and never saw much development beyond that, it is unclear how committed the studio s then-management really was to making Cyborg happen. It Teased An Unhappy Ending For Joker Harley(Photo by Zack Snyder / Vanity Fair)At one time, Suicide Squad was going to spin off Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) and the Joker (Jared Leto) into their own interconnected film series. The rough plan included a Gotham City Sirens – which would eventually become Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipaton of One Harley Quinn) – as well as a solo Joker film, and a Joker Harley project. While Leto s appearance in Zack Snyder s Justice League is newly shot material, it is unclear if Affleck s contribution to the scene was from 2016 or 2020. If the former, then Snyder always intended Batman s lines about Harley to be part of the second Knightmare. Would it have led to her film series ending in tragedy? It would ve been bold, but so little about those projects is known that it might ve been a whole lot of maybe with Harley s death contained only within the Knightmare world of Justice League. In the end, Birds of Prey emerged with Robbie returning as Harley for The Suicide Squad this August. Leto s interest in continuing on as the Joker changes with the wind.It Presented A Green Lantern Allied With The League(Photo by © Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection)The final scene of Snyder s League features the Martian Manhunter (Henry Lennix) offering his aid to Batman s team. But in a recent interview, the director revealed that scene was rebuilt from a similar one meant to introduce a different superhero. Considering a Green Lantern Corps film was on the development board at the time Justice League was shot – and Snyder s plan to include members of the Corps in Justice League 2 – it s a safe bet a Green Lantern was originally in J onn J ozz s place.Adding to that notion: Snyder also said Ryan Reynolds was game to reprise his Hal Jordan role from the much maligned Green Lantern.Details about the Green Lantern Corps film are vague. No one knows if it would have incorporated ideas from Green Lantern or started over with one of the other many members of that group in the lead position. It is still apparently in development, but with HBO Max working on a Green Lantern series with some of the same people involved in both Lantern film projects, it seems unlikely we ll see a big-screen return anytime soon.Perhaps this motivated Snyder to change the scene to the Martian Manhunter, whose absence from the project up until now was always strange. J onn has been a part of nearly every iteration of the League since its debuted in 1959. Also, since it is a new element, it is always possible we will see Lennix as the character again someday. It Laid the Ground For A Modern-Day Wonder Woman 2 (Maybe)(Photo by HBO Max)This one might be more speculation than anything else, but with all of Diana s (Gal Gadot) references to shutting herself off from everyone for 100 years, we think it s safe to assume Wonder Woman 2 was originally envisioned as a post-Justice League movie. How this fit into Snyder s grand vision of the Great Darkness is harder to determine, but as both he and producing partner Deborah Snyder are executive producers on the Wonder Woman films, we imagine they would have made it work somehow. One guess: the Amazons would have left their island to confront Darkseid in Justice League 3, so maybe Hippolyta s (Connie Nielsen) command for Diana to return to her would ve been an element of that film.It Pointed To Decidedly Different Versions Of Aquaman and The Flash(Photo by HBO Max)Perhaps the most intriguing element of Zack Snyder s Justice League – at least from the standpoint of the projects it teases – is the way it establishes different version of the Aquaman film we eventually received and The Flash film we ll ultimately get.The key difference in visions for Aquaman stems from Arthur s (Jason Momoa) scene with Vulko (Willem Defoe). Besides the obvious design differences in Defoe s character, his attempt to coax Arthur into taking up his mother s trident suggests a different tone and objective for that eventual film. This Vulko seems more committed to getting Arthur on the throne of Atlantis than his short-haired counterpart in James Wan s picture. Additionally, Arthur s problem with his mother is a different type of abandonment issue, indicating their reunion was meant to be more of a confrontation than it ultimately turned out to be. Add to that Mera s (Amber Heard) British accent and her statement that both her parents are dead, and you get hints at a film more in line with the darker parts of The Lord of the Rings than the high adventure tale Wan ultimately delivered.(Photo by HBO Max)Also, we fully believe Lex was meant to sail up in his yacht and rescue Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) during Aquaman s stinger scene. No matter what Aquaman was supposed to be from the standpoint of Zack Snyder s Justice League, the eventual film was a success with a sequel due on December 16, 2022.The Flash, meanwhile, is the most mysterious. From the added scenes, we get that Barry s (Ezra Miller) involvement with Iris (Kiersey Clemons) would be a key plot point, as would his continuing efforts to be less of a shut-in and get his dad out of prison. But those hints speak to a film director Rick Famuyiwa left in late 2016 over the same sort of creative differences which led Seth Grahame-Smith and Game Night directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to depart as well. Currently, It director Andy Muschietti is scheduled to helm the film for a November 4, 2022 release. Curiously, the film will see Barry using his speed abilities to visit other realities in the DC Multiverse and will seemingly establish the many worlds to explain away films like Joker, The Batman, and even Zack Snyder s Justice League itself.Zack Snyder s Justice League is now available on HBO Max.

Fan Favorite Actresses 2020Last year, Scarlett Johansson ran away with the Fan Favorite Actress award by tallying nearly a third of all the votes cast, and we weren t certain anything similar would happen this year, just because it seemed the competition was too good. Maria Bakalova came out of nowhere to stun everyone in Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm; Carey Mulligan, Frances McDormand, and Viola Davis all powered films to potential Oscar glory; and Anya Taylor-Joy became a household name with a trio of titles, including the massively popular The Queen s Gambit. As it turns out, Zendaya actually managed to thwart them all by matching Scarlett Johansson s impressive win last year. The star of HBO s Euphoria became the youngest winner of the Lead  Actress Emmy for her role in the series and starred in the filmed-in-quarantine drama Malcolm Marie, earning 31% of all votes in our poll. The order below reflects the number of total votes cast for each actor by users in a poll that ran on RT from March 10 to April 13.« Previous Category Next Category »ZendayaThe singer-turned-actress not only found time during quarantine to make a movie (Malcolm Marie), but she also became the youngest Emmy winner in the Lead Actress category for her outstanding work on HBO s Euphoria.Anya Taylor-JoyAnya Taylor-Joy has been ready to break out in a big way for a couple years now, and 2020 gave her the opportunity to flex her versatility in a period piece (Emma.), a superhero movie (The New Mutants), and a wildly popular miniseries about a chess prodigy (The Queen s Gambit).Margot RobbieMoving up one spot from her fourth place finish in last year s poll, Robbie proved without a doubt that she was the best thing about the 2016 Suicide Squad movie, as she headlined 2020 s Birds of Prey in all its candy-colored glory.Carey MulliganMulligan blew the doors wide open with her performance in Emerald Fennell s Promising Young Woman, helping the film to earn five Oscar nominations, including Best Picture and a Best Actress nod for herself.Sarah PaulsonSarah Paulson has been one of the most dependable character actresses of her generation, and in 2020 she was the face of malicious intent in the psychological thiller Run and the Netflix series Ratched.« Previous Category Next Category » David Fincher’s first movie since 2014’s Gone Girl is a throwback to Old Hollywood, even recapturing some of the look and sound of films from the 1940s. Mank is also a passion project, a biopic scripted by his father, Jack Fincher, and focused on screenwriter Herman Mankiewicz and the creation of Citizen Kane.According to the first reviews, the movie won’t exactly go down in history as famously as the Orson Welles classic it’s about, but with great performances by Gary Oldman as the titular protagonist and Amanda Seyfried, plus its unique retro aesthetic, it’s sure to be very popular with Netflix subscribers and awards organizations alike. Here’s what critics are saying about Mank:How does it compare to David Fincher s other films? It’s one of David Fincher’s finest works.  Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendOne of his most personal – and most beautiful… it would be tempting to say this is his Citizen Kane.  James Mottram, South China Morning PostHis best movie since The Social Network and one of his most audacious filmmaking experiments since Benjamin Button.  Eric Kohn, IndieWireThe film is pure Fincher — technical and artistic mastery, combined with a script that is perhaps too cerebral or self-referential for many viewers.  J. Don Birnam, Splash ReportMank is, markedly, the least-enjoyable film he’s ever directed.  Nick Newman, The Film StageWill fans of classic movies like it?Mank is a tale of Old Hollywood that’s more steeped in Old Hollywood than just about any movie you’ve seen, and the effect is to lend it a dizzying time-machine splendor. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyThe most gorgeous piece of cinema you ll see anywhere…meant to match the look and feel of its era, as if it s eight decades ago and you just bought a ticket. Peter Travers, ABC NewsThis is a film that transports you back in time. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmCatnip for devotees of Turner Classic Movies… Mank [is] necessary, if not entirely fulfilling, viewing for film lovers. Alonso Duralde, The Wrap(Photo by Netflix)Will it have broad appeal?Mank’s premise and subject matter would seem to appeal only to a cinephile or fan of a bygone era, but there also lies powerful themes of addiction, genius, collaboration, betrayal, and painful political home-truths. Lewis Knight, Daily MirrorThere’s a way that it’s almost more inside baseball than it needed to be. And that could limit its appeal. Owen Gleiberman, VarietyIt will not be everyone’s cup of tea… a film about people sitting around talking, discussing scripts, or even intrigue, is not superficially appealing. J. Don Birnam, Splash ReportDo you need to see Citizen Kane first? While seeing Citizen Kane before Mank isn’t mandatory, you’ll have a greater appreciation for Fincher’s craft and technique when you can clearly see how he’s echoing the style of Welles’ seminal picture. Matt Goldberg, ColliderThere is some pleasure in spotting the winks and legends and shout-outs, but… you have to give the unfamiliar viewer reasons to care. By the end of Mank, even I wasn’t sure any of this mattered all that much. Jason Bailey, The PlaylistBut does it honor that film s legacy? It only enhances one’s appreciation of the genius 1941 movie at the center of its plot. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendThose looking for a movie about the development of Citizen Kane will likely be disappointed and would be better suited watching the 1999 TV movie RKO 281. Matt Goldberg, Collider[It] never fully nails how the dream of Kane came to be. Owen Gleiberman, Variety(Photo by Netflix)How is Gary Oldman s central performance? One of the greatest performances of his career – which is a statement that should be taken with extreme weight. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendA performance every bit as immersive as his Oscar-winning Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. James Mottram, South China Morning PostAs is usually the case with the actor, he grabs hold of the role and shakes the life out of it. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmOldman is giving one of his more engaging performances in recent memory. Alonso Duralde, The WrapSomebody younger should have portrayed the Oscar-winning screenwriter.  This isn’t to take anything away from Oldman’s performance, but to each their own. Danielle Solzman, Solzy at the MoviesWhat about Amanda Seyfried?Amanda Seyfried is a wonderful scene-stealer. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendIt’s the best thing she’s done in her career. James Mottram, South China Morning PostAmanda Seyfried, as Marion Davies, is by far the most human presence, the closest to a lifeblood. Nick Newman, The Film StageHer awards-worthy performance is likely to score her a well earned Oscar nomination. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendThe script is punchy and not afraid to lean into melodrama, and Fincher is clearly having fun bringing his father’s words to life. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmFincher’s script is wildly uneven, however, but when it hits, it really hits. Jason Bailey, The PlaylistWhat the script never quite cracks is the machinery of the creative process. Leah Greenblatt, Entertainment WeeklyPerhaps it’s inevitable that a screenplay about the screenwriter of Citizen Kane could never live up to its subject’s greatest work. Anna Menta, DeciderHow does the film look? It’s possible to go into a kind of trance at just how beautiful this film looks. Peter Bradshaw, GuardianThe style opens the doors to all varieties of callbacks to the specific and memorable aesthetics of Citizen Kane, instantly making you fall back into the time period. Eric Eisenberg, Cinema BlendYour eyes may see the black and white color as too crisp and intelligible to fully believe this is an 80-year-old movie, but Fincher and his team come deliriously close. J. Don Birnam, Splash ReportThe commitment to immersing us into a 1930s/1940s mood is impressive but I wish cinematographer Erik Messerschmidt had adopted the classic Academy ratio of the time as well. Erik Anderson, AwardsWatchWhy does [Fincher] shoot digitally, on the Red Monstro Monochrome, rather than 35mm, giving the picture an unmistakable (and sometimes unfortunate) digital sheen? Jason Bailey, The Playlist(Photo by Gisele Schmidt/Netflix)And how does it sound? The audio here is not what you’re used to hearing from a Netflix movie… it sounds like the type of audio you’d hear were you watching Mank in some grand movie palace. Chris Evangelista, SlashfilmTrent Reznor and Atticus Ross imbue their score with that same level of commitment to the period that’s unlike anything they’ve ever done. Erik Anderson, AwardsWatchAtticus Ross and Trent Reznor also deliver a seamlessly blended and moody score befitting the origin story of Welles’s directorial masterpiece. 环球体育下注 This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering new films from the Academy Award nominated directors of Black Swan and American Hustle, and more. This WEEK S TOP STORYCHRIS EVANS TO RETURN TO THE MCU, BUT HOW?(Photo by Jay Maidment/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)When it comes to big-budget superhero movies, press releases will frequently keep some details hidden or vague in the interest of not spoiling the film s premise or story beats. This week s big news, however, was possibly a rare example of film speculation run amok. Let s start with the baseline story, which is that Chris Evans is expected to return for at least one more Marvel Studios film after ostensibly leaving the role of Captain America in Avengers: Endgame (Certified Fresh at 94%). Most sources reporting the announcement filled in the blanks to assume Evans was returning as Steve Rogers, but the original story didn t actually say that. The other possibility to consider is that Evans could be reprising his role as Fantastic Four member Johnny Storm, A.K.A. The Human Torch, possibly in a small cameo role. Kevin Feige confirmed just a few weeks ago that he is currently casting the Fantastic Four reboot, and we ve also heard recently about the next Spider-Man movie bringing in actors who played villains in the Spider-Man movies starring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. So, it seems plausible that alternate realities or a multiverse could be at play in the future of the MCU, and Chris Evans could have a cameo as someone other than Captain America (it would also explain why Evans tweeted News to me in response to the Captain America speculation). Having said that, if Evans is returning as Captain America, the obvious explanation would involve time travel. We already know from the Loki trailer and the casting of Jonathan Majors as the time-traveling villain Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania that the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will likely feature be very wibbly wobbly timey wimey. We ll just have to wait and see.Other Top Headlines1. ROBERT DE NIRO, RAMI MALEK, CHRIS ROCK, ZOE SALDANA, ANYA TAYLOR-JOY JOIN BIG ENSEMBLE(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough, Jason Mendez/Everett Collection)Director David O. Russell doesn t always work with big ensemble casts filled with famous names, but he definitely has done it a few times (American Hustle and I Heart Huckabees, for example). We still don t have a title for his next film yet, which has already signed Christian Bale, Margot  Robbie, and Tenet star John David Washington. The cast expanded twice this week, starting on Wednesday with the news that Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) and Zoe Saldana (Marvel s Gamora) had signed on. The very next day, the cast grew even bigger with the additions of Robert De Niro, Mike Myers, Alessandro Nivola, Timothy Olyphant, Andrea Riseborough, Chris Rock, Matthias Shoenaerts, Michael Shannon, and Anya-Taylor Joy (The Witch, The Queen s Gambit). The project is currently filming in Los Angeles, but details are being kept vague as to what it s actually about, except that Christian Bale and Margot Robbie are playing a doctor and a lawyer (not necessarily respectively). Whatever the movie ends up being titled, the end result will be distributed by 20th Century Studios, possibly as a late 2021 awards season release.2. DARREN ARONOFSKY CASTS BRENDAN FRASER AS THE WHALE (Photo by ©Lionsgate)After taking a few years following his most recent film, 2017 s mother! (Fresh at 68%), director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan) appears to be getting closer to filming his next, an adaptation of the 2012 play The Whale by playwright Samuel D. Hunter. For the lead role, Aronofsky has cast Brendan Fraser to play a six hundred pound recluse hiding away from the world and slowly eating himself to death. A24 will be distributing The Whale, but the project does not currently have an announced production start date, so we don t have a firm idea of when it might be released, either.3. BEN AFFLECK JOINS DISNEY TO DIRECT KEEPER OF THE LOST CITIES (Photo by Universal Pictures)Author Shannon Messenger s 2012 children s fantasy novel Keeper of the Lost Cities has become a series of nine books (and counting), including a few New York Times bestsellers. Walt Disney Pictures obviously hasn t gotten out of the live-action fantasy movie business, but aside from something like Artemis Fowl, many of their films in that zone lately have been remakes of their animated classics. In that light, it makes total sense that Disney is moving forward with a Keeper of the Lost Cities movie, but what s more surprising is that it s Ben Affleck (Argo, Certified Fresh at 96%) who they ve hired to direct and co-write the adaptation. Studio-wise, the hiring of Ben Affleck is sort of a get for Disney, since he has worked quite a bit for Warner Bros. in recent years, including appearance in a few recent movies (and an upcoming HBO Max mini-series) as Batman.4. THE GOOD WIFE WRITER TAKING ON SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN BIOPIC  (Photo by Robert Spencer/Getty Images)This coming August 25th will mark the third anniversary of the death of U.S. Senator John McCain, whose other accomplishments include surviving five years as a prisoner of war in Vietnam and his two campaigns for president in 2000 and 2008. McCain s life has been detailed in a number of books, and this week, three of them (The Luckiest Man: Life with John McCain, Faith of My Fathers, and Worth the Fighting For) written by former McCain speechwriter and chief of staff Mark Salter were optioned by Stampede Ventures to be adapted into a bigraphical feature film. Stampede Ventures is also the production company currently developing Frosty the Snowman starring Jason Momoa and the Walter Cronkite drama Newsflash. Salter will also co-write the adaptation with producer Craig Turk (TV s The Good Wife, F.B.I.), with McCain s widow Cindy McCain acting as the project s executive producer. Faith of My Fathers was adapted as a TV movie in 2005 with John McCain portrayed by Shawn Hatosy, and Ed Harris also co-starred as McCain in the HBO film Game Change (Fresh at 67%).5. FIRST FEMALE DIRECTOR ALICE GUY-BLACHÉ GETTING HER OWN BIOPIC (Photo by Everett Collection)We recently started a new year, which also could have offered a good jumping off point for the #52FilmsbyWomen challenge, during which movie fans commit to watching at least one movie from a female director every week for a full year. Although male directors ha obviously dominated the industry for much of the last 120+ years, the very first female film director, Alice Guy-Blaché, made her debut in 1896 with the short film The Fairy of the Cabbages (note: in 1896, all movies were short films). The life of Alice Guy-Blaché is now being developed as a biopic from the same filmmakers who also adapted her life story as the 2018 documentary Be Natural: The Untold Story of Alice Guy-Blaché (Certified Fresh at 95%). At the time a secretary for the Gaumont studio, Guy-Blaché was actually in the room when the Lumiere Brothers held their very first public screening in 1895, and within a year she was making her own movies. This eventually led her to America, where she directed over 1,000 short films during the Silent Film Era, working with stars like Lionel and Ethel Barrymore. Jodie Foster narrated the Be Natural documentary, but it s not yet known if she will also be involved with the biopic.6. CARDI B TO MAKE HER LEAD ACTING DEBUT WITH ASSISTED LIVING (Photo by Stephane Cardinale - Corbis/Getty Images)Rapper and pop star Cardi B has had a lot of success in her musical career, but it has been less than three years since her first studio album came out, and only 16 months since she made her feature film acting debut in Hustlers (Certified Fresh at 87%), starring Jennifer Lopez and Constance Wu (admittedly, Cardi B s screentime in Hustlers is almost blink-and-you ll-miss-her). With all that in mind, she s ready to take on a lead role, as she is now signed to star in a Paramount Pictures comedy in the vein of classic funny films like Tootsie, Sister Act, and Mrs. Doubtfire called Assisted Living. Cardi B will play a small-time crook on the run from the law who finds refuge disguising herself as an elderly resident at her grandmother s nursing home. Assisted Living got its start at Paramount as a spec script by TV producer and writer Kay Oyegun (This is Us). Cardi B will also have a supporting role in Fast Furious 9 (5/28/2021, tentatively).7. ANNA PAQUIN JOINS SHAZAM! STAR IN FOOTBALL BIOPIC AMERICAN UNDERDOG (Photo by Jason Smith/Everett Collection)One of the last films to have a wide release in the USA in 2020 before COVID-19 shut down theaters was the faith-based romance I Still Believe (Rotten at 51%), which still managed to earn back its production budget (.4 million against million). That film was the first from a new faith-based production company called Kingdom Story Company, and their second and third movies will both feature Shazam! star Zachary Levi. The teen drama Unbreakable Boy is currently filming, and production will soon start on the football biopic American Underdog: The Kurt Warner Story. Zachary Levi will star as Warner, who overcame a series of hurdles (including having the bad luck of trying out for the QB job for the Green Bay Packers early in Brett Favre s career) to become the only person inducted into both the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the Arena Football Hall of Fame. The news this week is that True Blood and The Piano star Anna Paquin has also signed on to co-star as Brenda Warner, Kurt Warner s wife. American Underdog will be directed by Andrew and Jon Erwin (who also directed I Still Believe) and the film will be distributed by Lionsgate.8. MICHAEL PEÑA JOINS ROLAND EMMERICH S DISASTER MOVIE MOONFALL(Photo by @ Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)After trying a few other genres (Anonymous, Stonewall), disaster movie specialist Roland Emmerich has been getting back to his roots more recently (Independence Day: Resurgence and the war movie Midway), and will especially do so with Moonfall, which is about exactly what it sounds like. The Moonfall ensemble cast will include Halle Berry, Charlie Plummer, Donald Sutherland, Patrick Wilson, John Bradley (Samwell Tarley from Game of Thrones), and until this week, Transformers star Stanley Tucci. Tucci had to drop out of the production due to recently imposed travel restrictions preventing him from flying from the U.K. to Canada where the film is being produced. Instead, Ant-Man MVP supporting actor Michael Peña has signed on for Tucci s role as a a wealthy car dealer who is married to the ex-wife of Patrick Wilson s character. Presumably, some of those used cars are about to get demolished by some big old moon rocks.9. ARMIE HAMMER DROPS OUT OF J.LO ROMCOM SHOTGUN WEDDING (Photo by Daniel Smith/Warner Bros.)Armie Hammer became the focus of an online controversy this week, the nature of which we won t get into. The news came out just before Hammer was about to spend four months in the Dominican Republic filming the romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding with Jennifer Lopez, but the production will now need to recast the role, as he has dropped out. This will actually be the second time the role will be recast, as it was originally supposed to be played by Ryan Reynolds (who is still executive producing Shotgun Wedding). Lopez and whoever-replaces-Armie-Hammer will star in Shotgun Wedding as a couple having a destination wedding in the Caribbean who then begin to get cold feet, just as everybody in the wedding party also gets taken hostage. Shotgun Wedding will be directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect, Sisters) from a screenplay by Liz Meriwether (No Strings Attached) and Mark Hammer (Two Night Stand), who as far as we can tell, isn t related to Armie Hammer. On an Apple device?
