epath Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and synthezoid Vision (Paul Bettany) after their lives as Avengers. Premiering January 15 on Disney+, the show opened with the two living a The Dick Van Dyke Show–inspired dream existence of dinner parties and wacky neighbors. It has since bounced forward to different eras of TV as audiences (maybe) get closer to the truth of how the duo might actually be living in a The Stepford Wives version of suburbia — especially since, well, he’s dead.(Photo by Disney+)WandaVision has been a hit with critics and audiences. The first season is Certified Fresh with a 93% Tomatometer rating and an 80% audience score. But what do these design aesthetics all mean? How do they fit into the larger MCU story? To try to get to that, we talked to production designer Mark Worthington, who explained that the sets and dialogue aren’t supposed to be “exactly like any other sitcom set from the ’50s [or another era].” He said his hope, however, is that “it evokes that feeling.”“It s more about a sort of memory, in a certain way. What is our memory of those sitcoms? What, as an audience, what would help cue that?” he explained. This is true for both the audience watching WandaVision who may spot similarities to programs they grew up watching either in real time or in reruns on channels like Nick At Nite and for a lot of the characters who have no choice but to follow orders not to change that channel.(Photo by Marvel Studios)The sets are also meant to evoke the emotions of the story. An example: The third episode, entitled “Now in Color,” blasts Wanda and Vision into the 1970s and a The Brady Bunch–style ranch house, complete with wood paneling and a sunken living room. It may seem to be one of the happiest episodes because this is when Wanda and Vision welcome their twins.“Obviously, the content of the episode drives that as well,” Worthington said. “It s colorful, it s very ’70s era, and, yeah, there s this fun positive thing that happens in the episode. So all that tracks really well.”But don’t get too distracted by the bright and shiny nostalgia. That episode also plays up the false domesticity of The Brady Bunch, with its fake, fenced-in lawn and happy homemaker lifestyle (aside from some screaming and a burst water pipe, Wanda continues early TV s tradition of having one nice and tidy birthing moment and is right back to a size two with a flawless blow-out by credits end). And, while many new mothers are protective of their young, Wanda is particularly careful of letting anyone get close. Neighbors Herb (David Payton) and Agnes (Kathryn Hahn) aren t allowed to know she s pregnant and have to secretly whisper to themselves about any bizarreness in the neighborhood. Geraldine (Teyonah Parris) pays the price for getting too close to a Wanda at a vulnerable moment and gets zapped far, far away. In the actual Brady Bunch show — as well as similar ones like The Partridge Family — the emphasis was on perfect, non-messy family values (the Brady kids didn t even have a toilet) even though off screen, those kids were not so squeaky clean.(Photo by Marvel Studios)Then there are the clues — or possible clues? — hidden among sets and the costumes, which are designed by Mayes C. Rubeo, and other factors. In the Halloween-themed sixth episode, Wanda s soccer mom take on a simple superhero costume is the shade of a mid-life-crisis red convertible with sharp horns and a cape — the character s original 1964 X-Men comics look complete with Jack Kirby headgear (which she explains as a traditional Sokovian fortune teller’s outfit). Is this connected to her line that she seemed to conjure this world because she made a deal with the devil ? And how does this connect to WandaVision s family sitcom with the upcoming seemingly more action-packed titles like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier? Judging by that show s trailer, it will have more guns, flying and explosions than TV dinners and trick-or-treating.“We have done Easter eggs,” Worthington said of ties back to the MCU grand plan.亚博APP苹果版LOL手游已经上线有两个多月了,随着官方一直在完善手游的各种细节和新增英雄,还有各路俱乐部组成LOL手游

iler to her wowzer fashion statement around the 1:28 mark, it is clear the film version of the Cheetah will experience several transformations. But it remains to be seen if this is of her own accord or something beyond her understanding.2. Maxwell Lord Wants A Better Tomorrow, And His Scheme May Involve Infomercials(Photo by © Warner Bros. )Rich industrialist Maxwell Lord is re-framed here as an early pioneer of the infomercial. But from the pitch we see in the trailer, his product is less a Ron Popeil-style gadget than a fully-realized American Dream. Over the years, Max has pulled off a number of schemes – including a corporatized Justice League – but they all ended when Diana snapped his neck. Both hero and villain since his 1987 introduction, Max’s final evil days overshadow his more heroic years. Of course, any perception we have of him as a hero may be down to his telepathic suggestion. The trailer implies he will be an out-and-out villain, what with him saying he will “take what I want in return” and the shot of him holding a sinister-looking crystal. Also, considering the 1984 setting, a mogul like Maxwell Lord can only be the villain – right? What we do not see, though, is the real scope of his plan or how he will use those infomercials to obtain it. Maybe he s found a way to embed telepathic commands in them? His directive to imagine “everything you ever wanted” may be a clue. And it will likely lead to the chaos near the Capitol.3. It’s Definitely Steve Trevor And He’s The Fish-Out-Of-Water This Time(Photo by © Warner Bros. )Right before the trailer’s debut at CCXP, director Patty Jenkins said the story could not be told without Steve Trevor. So, we’re excepting Diana’s embrace of him in the middle of the trailer as proof that this is, indeed, the real Steve Trevor who died in 1919 magically returned. But perhaps more interesting is the trailer’s stinger, in which Steve mistakes a modern trash can for a piece of modern art. Between that and the fanny pack, it’s clear Steve will take Diana’s place as the fish-out-of-water in Wonder Woman 1984. It is a fitting reversal and a chance to highlight all those goofy 1980s advancements like digital watches and frozen yogurt. It might be the most obvious scene to reprise, but Steve almost has to tell a fro-yo vender “You must be very proud” at some point during the film. Also, Steve s the world needs you line late in the trailer suggests we may loose him again well before the end of the film.4. Diana Does Some Old-School Superheroics at the Mall(Photo by © Warner Bros. )Sure, Diana may have completed a traditional rescue in Justice League, and her actions in the first film are quite heroic, but the trailer offers a glimpse of Diana’s crime-stopping abilities as she disarms two would-be thieves at a mall. The brief shots of the scene – which include her jumping into the center-court atrium and smashing pistols with her bare hands – look like the sort of DC heroics we expect in films like Wonder Woman 1984, even if crime takes a back-seat to New Gods, old gods, and would-be tyrants. But we couldn’t help but notice the seemingly odd inclusion of Diana using her tiara to smash several security cameras. It seems the film will still play with the idea – established in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – that Diana was incognito from the end of World War I to Doomsday’s attack on Metropolis. How she can possibly keep herself secret with that costume and the very public events glimpses in the Wonder Woman 1984 trailer is a questions we cannot wait to see answered.5. Full. Armored. Diana.(Photo by © Warner Bros. )We’ve know about Diana’s armor since an earlier poster for the film was released. But the trailer gives us the full view of Diana’s incredible Golden Eagle Armor. Based on a design by Kingdom Come artist Alex Ross, it originally appeared as Diana’s final costume in that story’s bleak future. But it is such an impressive design, it eventually found its way into mainstream DC Comics continuity. It s appearance, though, always suggests this is Diana’s true battle garb – a suit of armor meant for war.Of course, war has a particular meaning to Diana as the God of War is her uncle. Okay, at least in some stories, Ares is her uncle. And that leaves a big question mark in the world of the Wonder Woman films. Did Ares (played by David Thewlis in Wonder Woman) survive or has someone else taken his place as the God of War? The lighting-heavy skies seen at 2:00 certainly echo Ares’s effect on the atmosphere during the first film’s climax, but it is also possible his seat in the Pantheon is still vacant. And, as it happens, Diana took her uncle’s seat in recent DC Comics storylines …It could also just be the gear she needs to take on Max and Cheetah during the final confrontation. Or maybe it s in the film just because it looks cool – with the wings or without.Bonus: Blue Monday (Photo by © Warner Bros. )New Order’s classic 1983 single “Blue Monday” isn’t just a random piece of music chosen for the trailer. It also appears to be the official theme of the film’s early publicity. The song cemented the group’s transition from a post-punk act to a dance band. Curiously, its life began as a track the band could automate on their synthesizers and leave the stage in lieu of an actual encore. In the year since, it has become their encore song, but they remain on stage to play it.The song’s association with the film’s early marketing efforts – and the great symphonic rendition used in the trailer – suggests it may be a key element of the film itself. But considering New Order lyricist Bernard Sumner writes inscrutable words and, sometimes, portentous-sounding filler to accompany the more important music, “Blue Monday” may not be an easily deciphered clue.Although, we can guess key lines like “And still I find it so hard/To say what I need to say” could reflect Barbara’s state of mind. Alternatively, “Blue Monday” is just the sound of the 1980s in seven minutes and 29 seconds – provided you’re listening to the original 12’’ release.Like this? (Photo by JSquared Photography/The CW)With its glitz, glamour, and can-do attitude, The CW’s Katy Keene may seem more like an echo of the network’s Gossip Girl than an extension of the emerging Riverdale universe. And that difference may cause fans of the mothership series – or its Netflix cousin, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina – to look at it with some pause. Some of those fears may be unfounded, as Katy Keene charts a new corner of the Archie Comics world on television. Join us as we examine some of the program’s unique details and why it fits in both The CW’s lineup and a place not too far from Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead (Cole Sprouse). It s Got A Magical Tone(Photo by Barbara Nitke/The CW)From his earliest discussions about the program, executive producer Robert Aguirre-Sacasa promised it would have a magical tone. In much the same way Riverdale’s atmosphere stems from film noir and the series occasionally flirts with horror tropes, Katy Keene’s sense of magic seems to come from romantic comedies in which the world itself is, on the whole, a good place. The city Katy (Lucy Hale) walks through is brighter, its denizens smile widely, and a song could break out at any moment. And although the series would seem to set up romantic travails for its four principal characters and each has someone in their lives their truest romance is with the city itself and the sense that anything can happen there. Compared to the way the Riverdale gang seem to loathe their hometown and the soul of Greendale seems a secondary concern for the Sabrina characters, the love of place is a refreshing change – but it might drive those less enamored with New York a little crazy. It s Set Sometime In Rivedale s Future(Photo by Barbara Nitke/The CW)Though the program avoids specifics in its early episodes, the show takes place sometime in Riverdale’s future. Some reports indicated a five year gap exists between them, but we saw no indication of that. Early on, Josie McCoy (Ashleigh Murray) makes references to the time spent between leaving town with her father (as seen last year on Riverdale), but avoids elaborating too much on where she’s been. Additionally, Katy herself is a contemporary of Veronica Lodge (Camilla Mendes) – who availed herself of Katy’s costume-making skills on Riverdale earlier this season – but tells the viewers in the first episode she has been working at Lacy’s Department Store for three years. Perhaps her guest appearance on the February 5th episode of Riverdale will clear up the question of time. If Katy is already working at Lacy s when Veronica heads to New York for some catching-up and shopping, then we know the two shows are within three years of each other. At the same time, the lack of a precise time gap offers both shows some flexibility in terms of future crossovers or characters making long-term migrations from one series to the other. It also means events on Katy Keene are less likely to conflict with Riverdale. Luckily for both shows, Sabrina takes place in an alternate reality and keeps its Devil far from The CW.Katy Is Your Narrator(Photo by Barbara Nitke/The CW)Like Jughead before her, Katy narrates the goings-on of the story. Although, from the episodes we’ve seen so far, she is only privy to her own thoughts and her own life. But also like Mr. Jones, she seems to have some omniscience or future knowledge about her life and may be speaking from some future point in time.Created by Bill Woggon and first debuting in 1945’s Wilbur Comics #5, Katy was a popular character in the Archie stable for roughly 15 years. She appeared in various Archie Comics titles and, eventually, her own self-titled comic, in which the twenty-something character aspired to become a model, actor, and singer. Reader engagement was high, as the company encouraged fans to submit their own dress ideas for Katy to wear. But as the character’s popularity declined in the early 1960s, along with other female-focused comic book genres, she is not as well known as Archie, Sabrina, or Josie. After a short-lived revival in the 1980s (spearheaded by fans of her 1950s exploits), she disappeared once again into Archie trivia. The television series re-imagines her as a would-be fashion designer who has a major talent as a personal shopper at Lacy’s. Seemingly mentored by department head Gloria Grandbilt (Katherine LaNasa) – who reminds us of Sabrina’s Aunt Zelda (Miranda Otto) a great deal – Katy appears to be caught between these two aspects of her chosen industry, much as her comic book counterpart vacillated between three facets of the entertainment industry. At times, she has a Veronica Lodge energy to her, so it’s not a huge surprise she’s the de facto leader of her group of friends, but we wonder how she and V really got along all those years ago.The Poppy Dialogue Remains(Photo by Peter Kramer/The CW)Like Riverdale and Sabrina, the fast, poppy dialogue remains a fixture, but with its references to Broadway, legendary recording studios, and fashion labels, viewers more aligned with the other shows’ reliance on film history and the macabre  may find themselves missing some of the jokes. Nevertheless, Aguirre-Sacasa’s constant voice means fans of Riverdale and Sabrina will just pick up new knowledge bases as the series progresses. It s Also A Josie And The Pussycats Show(Photo by Barbara Nitke/The CW)While Valerie and Melody are nowhere to be seen so far – and have been missing from Josie’s life since sophomore year of high school – Katy Keene features a lot of ideas from the Josie comic book and animated series. Pepper Smith, her original best friend in the comics, is one of Katy Keene’s four principal characters. Played by Julia Chan, she’s been re-imagined as a new media hustler with something of a shady past. Alexandra Cabot (Camille Hyde), complete with a white stripe in her hair, emerges as Josie’s first real antagonist on the series. Alexander Cabot (Lucien Laviscount) appears as a possible romantic interest for Ms. McCoy with a more idealistic vision for a record company than his comic book counterpart s scheming for success and Josie’s affections. Nevertheless, Josie’s encounters with the Cabot siblings ring familiar from the comics, and Alexander s interest in making Josie a star may lead to a reformed Pussycats at least, we hope it does. Other Josie supporting characters like Albert and Sock are still missing, but maybe they’ll pop up at some pint. Long time Josie love interest Alan M. Mayberry is reportedly set to appear on the show (in the form of actor James Maslow), so it is possible the entire Jose and the Pussycats cast will populate Katy Keene. But considering the traditional Katy Keene cast is pretty much limited to Gloria Grandbilt, her boyfriend K.O. Kelly (played on the show by Zane Holtz) and Katy’s sister (who has seemingly been erased for the TV show), the Josie group is a worthwhile set of characters to import into Katy’s orbit. Well, that’s presuming she’ll be an active participant in Josie s story.Riverdale-Style Musical Numbers Abound(Photo by Barbara Nitke/The CW)Riverdale likes its music. Whether it be Kevin Keller’s (Casey Cott) annual school production or the entertainment Veronica programs at La Bonne Nuit, the show has relied on both reality-breaking musical numbers and more diagetic performances designed to showcase the chops of its cast. But even with the excuse of the speakeasy and Kevin’s love of musical theater, Riverdale is somewhat limited in the amount of singing it can credibly feature; keeping such scenes down to one every few episodes.Katy Keene takes it to a whole new level, with several musical interludes per episode. Some may just feature a single person playing piano and singing, while others take to the stage at Molly’s Crisis – the favorite spot of Katy’s circle – but it’s a definite uptick from the amount of singing one might find on Riverdale. This is by design, of course. Initial descriptions of the series noted its intention to be a “musical dramedy.” And while it may not feature as much choreography as an episode of Glee or even the level of production one might see at La Bonne Nuit, Katy Keene is very much about its cast singing. There Are Theatrical Struggles(Photo by David Giesbrecht/The CW)Of course, it can’t all be magical nights filled with song on Katy Keene. Drama still must occur. And in lieu of murder or witchcraft, Katy Keene’s dramatic hooks come from the characters trying to make it while maintaining their romantic notions about life. And though the show is trying to play this material in a more whimsical way – particularly with Katy’s story the struggles are there.Jorge Lopez (Jonny Beauchamp), in particular, has it tough as the program’s only character trying to make it on the Big White Way. Like so many before him, he wants to be a dancer in Broadway shows, but his seemingly fluid gender presentation and his drag act as “Ginger Lopez” may cause him any number of difficulties, to say nothing of the way the theater eats hopefuls of all stripes.Meanwhile, Pepper’s real story has yet to reveal itself. Early press materials suggested she has a secret business plan, but if it’s the one she expressed in the episodes we saw, it will lead her into some rough times in the very near future perhaps even the greatest struggle of her life. But the presence of these struggles will, hopefully, underscore the sense of magic Katy Keene wants to cultivate about New York and establishing oneself in their 20s. Sure, the show may only be paying lip service to things like rent or the rigors of finding a career in the entertainment field, but it is trying to be a hopeful show. At the same time, we wouldn’t be surprised if it makes some sort of pivot into darker material. It is a Riverdale adjacent show, after all.Katy Keene Season 1 premieres on Thursday, February 6 on The CW.
(Photo by Jackson Lee Davis/AMC)Despite leading a show like The Walking Dead, in which any character can die at any time, Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) has survived for nine years. But now that Lincoln has left the show — and will star in his own series of The Walking Dead movies — Daryl (Norman Reedus) is stepping up and a whole new crew of survivors is populating the post-apocalyptic world. An older, Walker-wise Judith Grimes (Cailey Fleming) and new characters Magna (Nadia Hilker), Yamiko (Eleanor Matsuura), Connie (Lauren Ridloff), Kelly (Angel Theory), and Luke (Dan Fogler) are among the new blood the series has brought in to fill TWD s Rick Grimes–shaped void. The Walking Dead is only the latest show that has had to move on in the wake of a major cast member departure. Throughout TV history, shows have dealt with losing their stars for various reasons — and in some cases the shows grew stronger with the new cast. Not all benefitted from a cast swap, however — there are certainly some duds on Rotten Tomatoes list of the most famous television replacements. Read on to find out who was replaced and why, along with how their departure was explained on screen.22. Beverly Hills, 90210 (Photo by ©Aaron Spelling Prod./Courtesy Everett Collection; Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Brenda Walsh (Shannen Doherty, pictured right)The Replacement: Valerie Malone (Tiffani Amber Thiessen, pictured left)The Reason: In 2015 Tori Spelling revealed that she eventually made a call to her father, producer Aaron Spelling, asking him to fire Doherty over her conflicts with the cast and crew. The Explanation: Brenda left for drama school in London. Valerie Malone, a bad girl from Minnesota, came to live with the Walshes for seasons 5 through 10 of 90210. In 1994, Thiessen told press on the set she thought she was cast because “they heard I had a reputation for being easy to work with.”21. Charmed (Photo by ©Warner Bros/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Prue Halliwell (Doherty)The Replacement: Paige (Rose McGowan)The Reason: According to the New York Daily News, Alyssa Milano gave producers of the original WB show (not to be confused with the 2018 reboot) an ultimatum: It was either her or Doherty. The show’s producers said Doherty wanted to leave, and they let her.The Explanation: Prue is killed by demons, and, shortly thereafter, the Halliwells discover a long-lost fourth sister, Paige, who ended up sticking around from season 4 through the show s remaining eight seasons. There s no bad blood on McGowan s part, however: The actress wrote to Doherty via Instagram when Doherty underwent cancer treatment: “The men brainwashed women in our business made it so we couldn t be friends. I regret that.”20. Baywatch (Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: C.J. Parker (Pamela Anderson, pictured)The Replacements: Donna Marco (Donna D’Errico) and Lani McKenzie (Carmen Electra)The Reason: Anderson left Baywatch to focus on being a mother. The Explanation: C.J. Parker got married off the show, and it took two new lifeguards to fill her sandy footprints. While Carmen Electra told Esquire, “I don’t think I was hired as a replacement,” costar Kelly Packard recalled auditions for “a room of Pamela Anderson–looking women” and Traci Bingham said Donna “thought she was Pamela.” Electra was only on the series for one season and D’Errico for two, but the casting proved that a rotating roster of lifeguards could survive long into syndication.19. Anger Management 23%(Photo by FX)Outgoing Character: Kate Wales (Selma Blair)The Replacement: Dr. Jordan Denby (Laura Bell Bundy, pictured)The Reason: TMZ reported that Blair complained to the producers about Sheen’s unprofessional behavior, and Sheen demanded she be fired. Sheen told Jay Leno that Blair was written out because viewers expected the show to be about their relationship. The Explanation: Charlie Goodson (Sheen) stopped seeing Kate for anger management therapy, but went into business with Dr. Denby. Reviews for Anger Management were never all that Fresh (season 1 has a 23% score on 35 reviews), so the switch didn’t seem to change much on the series — except perhaps, given season 2 s three meager reviews, that most critics stopped paying attention.18. Lethal Weapon 89%(Photo by Fox)Outgoing Character: Martin Riggs (Clayne Crawford)The Replacement: Wesley Cole (Sean William Scott, pictured)The Reason: Warner Brothers fired Crawford for abusive behavior, which Crawford insisted was only in response to difficulties with costar Damon Wayans. The Explanation: The character of Riggs survived four films and a perma-rumored fifth, but on TV he was shot and killed. Scott told EW, “For a lot of fans that are upset that they’re not going to see Riggs, which I totally understand, I really believe they’re going to feel ‘OK, they handled it in a way that’s really respectful to that character and what he means to the show.’”17. Criminal Minds (Photo by CBS)Outgoing Character: Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin)The Replacement: David Rossi (Joe Mantegna, pictured)The Reason: Patinkin said that the violent subject matter of the murder-centric series was “destructive to my soul.”The Explanation: Mirroring Patinkin s own experience, Gideon also left the Behavioral Analysis Unit due to emotional distress. His former partner Rossi has filled in ever since and continues to lead the show in its 14th season.16. Chicago Hope (Photo by CBS)Outgoing Character: Dr. Jeffrey Geiger (Mandy Patinkin)The Replacement: Dr. Kate Austin (Christine Lahti, pictured)The Reason: Patinkin wanted to be with his family in New York, while Hope filmed in Los Angeles. The Explanation: Geiger resigned after he couldn’t save Alan Birch (Peter MacNicol) from a gunshot wound, although the show insisted Dr. Austin was not replacing him. Unlike Criminal Minds, Patinkin did return for guest appearances on Chicago Hope.15. Nashville 91%(Photo by CMT)The Character: Rayna James (Connie Britton)The Replacements: Alyssa Greene (Rachel Bilson, pictured) and Jessie Craine (Kaitlin Doubleday)The Reason: When the series was canceled by ABC and moved to CMT, Britton decided to leave the show, working with the writers to give Rayna a dramatic finale. The Explanation: Rayna died in the hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Doubleday s singer/songwriter Jessie Craine and Bilson s Highway 65 record label exec Alyssa Greene joined the cast in the series fifth season, with Bilson leaving at the end of that season and Doubleday staying on through the sixth and final year.Doubleday prepared for the worst when she entered the show, she told The Boot: “If everyone hates me, it doesn’t matter. It’s a paycheck. I’ve felt pretty at home since the day I got here.”Interestingly, Britton left 9-1-1 after only one season, and Jennifer Love Hewitt stepped in as a new call center operator. She also appeared in only the first of eight seasons of Ryan Murphy s American Horror Story anthology series, while other stars from season 1, like Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Jessica Lange, formed something like a troupe and continued with the show.14. CHARLIE’S ANGELS(Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Jill Munroe (Farrah Fawcett, pictured left)The Replacement: Kris Munroe (Cheryl Ladd, pictured right)The Reason: When Fawcett left the show, she said it was because it prevented her from growing as an actor. Producer Aaron Spelling sued her for million. The Explanation: Jill resigned from the Angels to become a race-car driver, and — wouldn’t you know it? — she also has a sister named Kris who s fresh out of the police academy. Ratings held steady enough with Ladd, but dwindled when other new Angels started to rotate in during the final seasons, including Shelly Hack replacing Kate Jackson, and then Tanya Roberts replacing Hack.13. Beauty and the Beast (Photo by ©Paramount/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Catherine (Linda Hamilton, pictured)The Replacement: Diana (Jo Anderson)The Reason: Hamilton left the series, which ran from 1987 to 1990, when she was pregnant. The Explanation: Catherine was killed, leaving her love, Vincent (Ron Perlman), heartbroken. Diana offered a potential new love interest, but many fans felt the magic left with Hamilton. Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin wrote for the show and told THR, You can’t do two seasons of telling the world, This is a love story for the ages, this is Romeo and Juliet, and then suddenly third seasons say, Juliet? Forget Juliet. It’s Romeo and Harriet.' 12. THE HOGAN FAMILY(Photo by ©Lorimar/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Valerie Hogan (Valerie Harper, pictured)The Replacement: Sandy Hogan (Sandy Duncan)The Reason: Wrongful termination, as Harper was vindicated in court. The Explanation: You would think star Valerie Harper would be safe playing Valerie Hogan on a show called Valerie, but Valerie Hogan died in an automobile accident. Michael Hogan’s (Josh Taylor) sister Sandy came to live with Valerie’s Family, later renamed (again) The Hogan Family. At the time, Duncan told UPI she didn’t know there was any controversy: “The story I got before I agreed to do the show was that Valerie had left the series. Valerie and I have known each other for years. And while we were never friends, we were friendly. And I m relieved to know she has told people the dispute is not my problem. I refuse to be on the hot seat.”Despite Harper’s victory, the show lasted four more seasons, including one on CBS, without her.11. M*A*S*H (Photo by ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Henry Blake (McLean Stevenson)The Replacement: Sherman Potter (Harry Morgan, pictured)The Reason: NBC promised Stevenson more money, but subsequent shows bombed and Stevenson regretted leaving M*A*S*H after just three seasons. The Explanation: Blake was tragically shot down while returning home. Sherman Potter joined the M.A.S.H. unit for the rest of its eight seasons, and its spinoff AfterMASH. Morgan had impressed the producers when he guest-starred as a different character in the third season premiere.10. Three's Company (Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Chrissy Snow (Suzanne Somers, pictured)The Replacement: Cindy Snow (Jenilee Harrison)The Reason: Somers got fired for asking for pay equal to John Ritter in the fifth season. The Explanation: Chrissy also had a sister we’d never met before. The show went on for eight total seasons and a spinoff, Three’s a Crowd.9. Spin City 67%Outgoing Character: Mike Flaherty (Michael J. Fox)The Replacement: Charlie Crawford (Charlie Sheen)The Reason: Fox’s real-life battle with Parkinson’s.The Explanation: Mike became an environmental lobbyist for senator Alex P. Keaton (if only we’d gotten a scene of them together!), and Mayor Winston (Barry Bostwick) got a new deputy, Charlie Crawford (Sheen). Sheen earned the show a younger audience, according to The New York Times. Sheen told the paper, “I’m just glad people are responding. I can’t comment on what they’re responding to.” Spin City went two more seasons and Fox returned as a guest star.8. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit 78%(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Det. Elliot Stabler (Meloni, pictured)The Replacement: Det. Nick Amaro (Pino)The Reason: Meloni and NBC couldn’t come to terms on a new contract. The Explanation: Stabler retired, so Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) needed a new partner. Nick Amaro was that partner, and stayed on the job for four seasons. SVU has made it to 20 seasons, matching the original Law Order.7. Law & Order (Photo by NBC)Outgoing Character: DA Benjamin Stone (Michael Moriarty)The Replacement: DA Jack McCoy (Sam Waterston, pictured)The Reason: Moriarty claimed he was forced out for speaking out against a meeting Janet Reno had with NBC, believing the Attorney General would impose restrictive laws on television. The Explanation: Stone resigned and McCoy took over. Now it’s hard to imagine the show without Sam Waterston as DA Jack McCoy, and he’s who you’re most likely to see in a syndicated rerun. In 1995, Waterston was on speaking terms with Moriarty. “I have nothing to say about his reasons for leaving,” Waterston told The New York Times. “But I’ve talked to him since, and I think we’re OK.”6. 8 Simple Rules 58%(Photo by Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Paul Hennessy (Ritter, pictured)The Replacements: Jim Egan (James Garner) and C.J. Barnes (David Spade)The Reason: Ritter’s sudden death at the age of 54.The Explanation: In the aftermath of Ritter s (and his character s) death, the show added Garner as widow Cate s (Katey Sagal) father, and then Spade as her nephew who came to live with them. The show completed three seasons with the new cast.5. ER (Photo by ©NBC/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Doug Ross (George Clooney, pictured)The Replacement: Luka Kovac (Goran Visnjic)The Reason: Clooney fulfilled his five-year contract with ER, even as he ascended to movie stardom. The Explanation: Ross moved to Seattle after a dispute over being caught helping a mother euthanize her terminal son. The next year, Luka Kovac joined the E.R. an attending physician. Luka even dated Ross love, Nurse Hathaway (Julianna Margulies) until the two reunited (with a surprise Clooney cameo) when Margulies left the show too. The series ran for 10 more years, ending after its 15th season (during which Clooney and several other cast members returned).4. NYPD Blue 83%(Photo by ©20thCentFox/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Det. John Kelley (David Caruso)The Replacement: Det. Bobby Simone (Jimmy Smits, pictured right)The Reason: Caruso got a taste of the movie business and asked for a raise that NYPD Blue brass didn t agree to — especially after only one season. The Explanation: Internal Affairs pushed Kelly off the force, and Simone became Sipowicz s (Dennis Franz) new partner. Eventually, Rick Schroder joined the cast as well. Once Caruso was on CSI: Miami, he admitted he made a mistake leaving NPYD Blue. The modest Smits wouldn’t take credit for the ratings bump after he joined the show. “I don’t think I solely am responsible for that,” Smits told SF Gate in 1995. “But the people at the network are happy.”3. The X-Files 74%(Photo by Shane Harvey/FOX)Outgoing Character: Fox Mulder (David Duchovny, pictured)The Replacement: John Doggett (Robert Patrick)The Reason: Duchovny’s contract was up after seven years, and he was also suing Fox for syndication earnings. He would later return full-time in the 10th season. The Explanation: Mulder got abducted by aliens, of course. Agent Doggett became Scully s (Gillian Anderson) new partner, but without the seven years of rapport and back story, Patrick s Dogett just didn t have the same spark. Some critics, however, are reconsidering his seasons. In 2017, Patrick told People TV he knew the fans weren’t interested in him at first, but “we won ’em over and we got two seasons out of it.” It worked out for X-Files fans, though: Duchovny and Anderson starred in two feature films and then two additional seasons over a decade later.2. Two and a Half Men 65%(Photo by CBS)Outgoing Character: Charlie Harper (Sheen)The Replacement: Walden Schmidt (Ashton Kutcher, pictured)The Reason: Sheen’s public meltdown and lashing out against creator Chuck Lorre. The Explanation: Charlie was murdered by an ex, and the heartbroken billionaire Walden Schmidt took over his share of the rent. Kutcher said after his arrival that he drew a younger and more international audience to the show.“The demos for the show have actually started to skew a little bit younger,” Kutcher said in 2012 after half a season. “I can see a reflection of that on on the social media surfaces. You can actually see the international markets that are going to pop with the show. I think we just opened in Germany this week, and it was double.”Even Angus T. Jones (the titular half-man) left the show for a while after disparaging it publicly. Two and a Half Men was always critic-proof, so it lasted four more years with Walden Schmidt.1. Cheers 87%(Photo by ©Paramount Television/Courtesy Everett Collection)Outgoing Character: Diane Chambers (Shelley Long, pictured left)The Replacement: Rebecca Howe (Kirstie Alley, pictured right)The Reason: Long wanted to pursue a movie career and left after five seasons. The Explanation: When Diane left Sam Malone (Ted Danson) before their wedding, he sold the bar to a corporation that put Rebecca Howe in charge, making her Sam’s new romantic foil. It worked. Cheers ran for 11 years total and Alley is arguably even more closely identified with it than Long. The show previously had to fill a void when Nicholas Colosanto died during the third season, which is when Woody Harrelson joined the series.Did we leave out your favorite replacement? This week in TV news brings you behind-the-scenes drama on one of DC Universe s biggest 2019 launches, major video game adaptation casting news, and much more in the world of TV.TOP STORYTrouble in the Water for Swamp Thing?News broke earlier this week that production on DC Universe’s upcoming series Swamp Thing had been halted after five months of shooting. Some reports — including the initial story from one of the local news outlets, the Wilmington Star-News, that brought the story from the Wilmington, North Carolina set to national attention — noted that the shut-down was actually a pause so creators could “rewrite an ending” that would shave the series’ initial episode order from 13 down to 10. But others included the seemingly unfounded speculation that the move marked not just a creative shift for the series, but certain doom for the streaming service altogether.DC Universe’s response to that? Nah. The company’s metaphorical mic drop of a response involved releasing the very first teaser for the series, which noted that it would arrive on its original, already-announced release date: May 31. Watch it above. We Can See Your Halo(Photo by Elizabeth Goodenough/Everett Collection)American Gods star Pablo Schreiber has landed the coveted lead role in Showtime’s upcoming adaptation of Halo, based on the popular Xbox game. He’ll play Master Chief, Earth s most advanced warrior in the 26th century and the only hope of salvation for a civilization pushed to the brink of destruction by the Covenant, an unstoppable alliance of alien worlds committed to the destruction of humanity. The series will introduce a new character to the Halo universe, too: newcomer Yerin Ha will play Quan Ah, a shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both. Production begins in Budapest, Hungary, this fall.Stranger Things Lawsuit Heads to Court(Photo by Netflix)A lawsuit against Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer alleging that the filmmaker brothers stole the idea for their hit series is headed to trial next month. A Los Angeles judge ruled against a petition for summary judgment that the Duffers and Netflix had submitted, ensuring the matter would proceed to trial. (A summary judgment means the judge would rule on the matter without a full trial.) Plaintiff Charlie Kessler alleges in his lawsuit that he pitched the Duffers a project at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival based on “various urban legends, and paranormal and conspiracy theories,” and that he’s owed a third of the show’s profits. The Duffers allege that the casual, 10- to 15-minute chat “is the sole bases for the alleged implied contract at issue in this lawsuit and for Kessler’s meritless theory that the Duffers used his ideas to create Stranger Things.” Check out more on the suit at The Hollywood Reporter.Lena Waithe on Westworld, Mike Myers on Netflix, and more Casting News(Photo by Dee Cercone/Everett Collection)Lena Waithe is the latest star to join the currently filming third season of Westworld, according to Entertainment Weekly. She joins fellow new cast member Aaron Paul in a top-secret role.Comedian Mike Myers will executive produce and star in a new comedy series for Netflix. The half-hour limited series will see the Austin Powers star play multiple characters over six episodes.Joel Edgerton will play a slave-catcher named Ridgeway in Amazon’s upcoming series from Barry Jenkins, The Underground Railroad, Variety reports. The series is based on Colson Whitehead’s book of the same name, which follows a young slave escaping her Georgia plantation only to find a literal underground railroad system, and will consist of 11 episodes (all directed by Jenkins). And finally, three new actors have joined CBS All Access’ upcoming Picard-focused Star Trek series: Alison Pill, Harry Treadway, and Isa Briones. The three will all be series regulars alongside Sir Patri

The 33 Best Boxing Movies of All TimePugilists have been popular camera subjects since the start boxing, at the time, being arguably the most interesting thing you do to another person in public. In the odd century-plus that s passed since, boxing cinema has evolved past mere punching for spectacle. It s about personal toil. Training. Strength. Sacrifice. Undying commitment to the physical vision. And then it s about hitting somebody for money. Or respect, sure.Tonight s title bout: The best-reviewed boxing movies ever! In one corner, we have heavyweight classics like Rocky and Raging Bull. In the other, hungry newcomers like Creed and Million Dollar Baby. And in another corner (we have a lot of corners): hard-hitting documentaries, repped by When We Were Kings and Unforgivable Blackness. And, yes, we re going international in this corner: see Knuckle all the way from Ireland, and China Heavyweight, all the way from, er, China. To be a contender, the movie needed to put up a Fresh rating after 20 reviews, before we ranked them with our weighted formula calculating a film s Tomatometer score, its number of reviews, and year of release.Think you got what it takes to take on the champs? Hit em where it counts! Hit em right in the 33 Best Boxing Movies of All Time! What it is: Victor is a teen who doesn’t quite know himself yet, as so many teens are: a high schooler in a new district whose family unit seems to be dissolving while he’s coming to terms with his sexuality, he’s got a lot on his plate! Love, Victor, from creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, is his story. Why you should watch it: What’s not to love about Love, Victor? A welcome expansion — and in some instances, a subtle course-correct — on Greg Berlanti’s boundary-pushing studio feature Love, Simon, the series is a funny, touching, awkward, and at-times sexy ode to modern-day teendom in all its shades, featuring a standout, grounding performance from newcomer Michael Cimino. Season 2 premieres June 11 on Hulu.Where to watch it: HuluCommitment: Approx. 5 hours (for the first season)
