沙巴体育游戏采用百度引擎1(Baidu 8)(Photo by Sony/Columbia Pictures)This fall marks the 10th anniversary of the release of Zombieland, the well-reviewed horror comedy that entertained while instructing how to survive a zombie apocalypse. This fall will also see the long-awaited release of the hit movie’s sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap. That’s right, it’s time to nut up or shut up again and follow our favorite city-named characters as they re-kill some undead and maybe even search for more Twinkies. What’s in store for Columbus and the rest of the gang? What have they been up to this past decade? Will they accidentally murder anymore Hollywood icons? Here’s everything we know about the follow-up so far. What s Taken So Long?(Photo by Sony/Columbia Pictures)Ten years is a long wait for a sequel to a movie as popular as Zombieland, which grossed more than 0 million worldwide back in 2009. Everyone seemed ready to do another one soon afterward, but the usual Hollywood hurdles got in the way, some of them rather positive. The filmmakers and cast have all had a good and busy decade since the release of the original.Jesse Eisenberg became an Oscar nominee. Woody Harrelson, who had previously been nominated for a Best Actor Oscar, earned a couple more nominations for Best Supporting Actor. Emma Stone was not only nominated for two Oscars herself, but actually won one for Best Actress in 2016, and she was just nominated for a third time. Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick hit it big with Deadpool and Deadpool 2. Director Ruben Fleischer did a few more movies, including last year’s box office hit Venom, and a lot of television.(Photo by Official Zombieland Twitter)As it turns out, this was perfect timing for the cast of Zombieland to return for a sequel, if only for the fact that they could promote the project through a popular meme. On January 29, the official Zombieland Twitter account revealed the new title for the sequel in a tweet that also featured a new poster, with Eisenberg, Harrelson, Stone, and Breslin recreating the one-sheet for the original. The image of them all older — and in Breslin’s case, taller — is a perfect entry in the #10YearChallenge trend of comparing how we look now with our 2009 selves. Also, this isn’t the first return to Zombieland. Back in 2013, Amazon Studios debuted a pilot for Zombieland: The TV Series alongside 13 other pilots and asked viewers to help decide which series would be picked up. Unfortunately, fans weren’t into the small-screen version of Zombieland, which was scripted by Reese and Wernick but featured a new cast, and Amazon opted not to produce any more episodes. “You guys successfully hated it out of existence,” Reese tweeted at the time.Everyone Is Excited to Be Back(Photo by Sony/Columbia Pictures)Despite all the success and elevated prestige the cast and creators have experienced in the last decade, everyone is back on board for this crazy ride. Eisenberg, Harrelson, Stone, and Breslin will reprise their respective roles as Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita and Little Rock. And Fleischer is again at the helm, directing another script by Reese and Wernick, who are this time joined by The Expendables writer Dave Callaham. When Sony greenlit the sequel last summer, studio president Sanford Panitch said of the reunion: “No one wanted to see it happen more than Emma, Woody, Jesse, and Abigail. These are some of the most in-demand actors, and I think they are making this movie because they love these characters. We are thrilled Ruben was willing to come back to direct the sequel, as his work on Venom has been truly amazing.”Fleischer himself also spoke excitedly to Fandango last fall as he was prepping for the sequel. “I m thrilled,” he said. “I’ve been scouting and storyboarding and getting it going, and to get to work with that cast again is just an absolute dream come true. It s been really exciting starting to think about that movie, and to get to work with Emma, Jesse, Woody, and Abigail once again is truly a dream come true. Yeah, we re just at the very early stages, but we have an amazing script, and we re going to start shooting in Georgia in January.” Whatever the full synopsis and cast list entails, they’re up and running as of now filming began for Zombieland: Double Tap on January 21, 2019, in Atlanta, Georgia.New Locations, New Friends, and New Zombies(Photo by Sony/Columbia Pictures)What is the foursome up to this time around? The plot is being kept under wraps, of course, but does it really matter what the story is? All a Zombieland sequel needs to have is more hilarious zombie action and horror — not too complicated. We do know that Zombieland: Double Tap will involve another trek through the United States of Zombieland, however, this time taking the gang from the White House to the former American heartland. The film will also feature some new players in the game of zombie bashing, and yes, they’re also all nicknamed after places special to them. Rising star Zoey Deutch is Madison. Avan Jogia (TV’s Victorious) is a bad boy musician named Berkeley. And Rosario Dawson is Nevada. Hopefully we learn why her moniker is an entire state rather than a city.According to sparse details spreading about the premise of the sequel, Berkeley will be a love interest for Breslin’s Little Rock, who has separated from the rest of her group, and Nevada is a zombie hunter who connects with Eisenberg’s Columbus after some drama between him and Stone s Wichita further splits up the original cast.(Photo by Sony/Columbia Pictures)Meanwhile, as the four main characters have managed to stay alive for a decade by hunkering down in the presidential home, the hordes outside have also been surviving. According to reports of the plot, the gang will be facing “new kinds of zombies,” including smarter and stealthier varieties. I mean, it s been 10 years, so who knows what the world will look like at this point? Fleischer hinted to Fandango last fall. While it’s unconfirmed if Bill Murray will also return for the sequel as “himself,” rumor has it that his old Ghostbusters co-star and fellow Saturday Night Live alum Dan Aykroyd will make a cameo this time around as “Dan Aykroyd.” Would that mean we could look forward to Ernie Hudson or Sigourney Weaver in Zombieland 3?It ll Be Worth the Wait(Photo by Sony/Columbia Pictures)Ten years is a long time to wait for a sequel, and anticipation has just been building and building. Will it meet our expectations? Certainly there’s no pleasing everyone, but the decade delay has hopefully been for the best. Fleischer thinks so, as he told LRM last month: I think collectively we all felt very strongly that the only circumstance we’d be willing to make the movie is if it’s as good or better than the original. And none of us were willing to compromise on the quality of the movie. We worked on the script real hard to make sure that it was up to par with the original. And so, that was just a stipulation that we were all completely on the same page about. I’m proud to say I think our script is really great, in that the movie will be as good as the original if not better, and that’s why we’re all back. Zombieland: Double Tap  is currently scheduled to hit theaters on October 11, 2019.

Patrick didn t want to put handcuffs on us in a way by saying I don t wanna do this, and I don t wanna do that,' Kurtzman said. He said, I want you to have the freedom to explore this character from a new perspective, and I will always know in my gut if it feels like something he would or wouldn t do. And that s a conversation that we have as we re building it scene-to-scene. We ve started to internalize his thinking about Picard. And because that conversation is literally daily, either on email or in the room in person, I think we feel confident that we re making choices that he would be happy with. And is happy with, because ultimately he s a producer on the show too and he gets as much of a say. The first thing that we all said is it has to feel grounded, he continued. No matter what choices we re making about portraying the future, it has to feel grounded. Because I think one of the things people have loved so much about Next Gen is that it is a very emotional, thoughtful, grounded piece of entertainment. The easy thing to do is come up with, you know, crazy floating skyscrapers and all the cliches of science-fiction, and we ve tried to avoid that across the board. So, in the production design, in the look of it and in the feel of it, it s always about the small, intimate, personal details that you can still connect to now even though it s taking place so far in the future. Development is well underway with shooting, starting in April, occurring in America, Kurtzman said. Given his eight-month estimate for effects on an episode, the earliest the series might hit would be in early to mid-2020.But Kurtzman wasn t willing to give up all his secrets; he confirmed that the destruction of Romulus plays into the new Picard storyline, but when asked how, he replied, No way. 6.94.4 3月喜迎This Week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering new titles like Firestarter, The Lion King 2, and Thing One and Thing Two.This WEEK S TOP STORYJAMIE FOXX WILL RETURN AS VILLAIN ELECTRO IN SPIDER-MAN 3(Photo by ©Columbia Pictures)For the most part, the recent Spider-Man movies starring Tom Holland have made it distinctly clear that they don t take place in the same world as the previous Spider-Man movies starring either Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield. On the other hand, there have been some small hints, including the re-introduction of J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson in Spider-Man: Far from Home (Certified Fresh at 90%) and, of course, the whole notion that Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is about alternate reality Spider-heroes, that might have indicated otherwise. The latter movie might indeed be the best way to explain yesterday s news that Jamie Foxx is set to return as Electro in the next solo Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland. Foxx previously played Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Rotten at 51%), which was the last film to feature the Andrew Garfield version of Peter Parker. For now, we re left to wonder exactly how Foxx s Electro fits into the new film, but the two most obvious explanations are either that his Electro will be introduced as a new character (as if The Amazing Spider-Man 2 never happened), or Electro will come from another alternate reality (such as the Andrew Garfield movies). Of course, the second option would be something of a fake-out, since much of the marketing of Spider-Man: Far from Home hinged upon the idea that the evil villain Mysterio (Jake Gyllenhaal) was actually a superhero from another dimension. The third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland doesn t have a title yet, but it does have a release date of November 5, 2021 (COVID-19 delays notwithstanding).Other Top Headlines1. DISNEY RECRUITS BARRY JENKINS TO DIRECT A LION KING SEQUEL(Photo by Steven Ferdman/Everett Collection)Let s start this story by specifically addressing some language, because you will see all sorts of answers online. The version of The Lion King (Rotten at 52%) that Walt Disney Pictures released last year is probably best described as being photorealistic CGI, and not live action, since all but a few seconds of the movie was computer animated. Although that Rotten score may have stung a little, the film was absolutely an astounding success for Walt Disney Pictures, ending 2019 as the year s second-highest-grossing box office hit, behind only Avengers: Endgame (the highest-grossing movie ever). So it s perhaps not at all surprising that Disney is moving forward with plans for a sequel. The studio, possibly hoping to earn a stronger critical reception this time around, is upping its game by hiring director Barry Jenkins, who is probably still best known for his 2016 film Moonlight (Certified Fresh at 98%), which won three Academy Awards, including Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Supporting Actor, and in a historic reveal, Best Picture. It s not yet known if the Lion King sequel will serve as a remake in any way of the sequels that the original animated movie received, which included The Lion King II: Simba s Pride (Fresh at 62%) and The Lion King 1 1/2 (Fresh at 78%). Early word seems to suggest that instead of adapting either of those sequels directly, at least some of the film will serve as a prequel depicting the early years of Mufasa, Simba s father. The Lion King sequel is being written by screenwriter Jeff Nathanson, who also wrote last year s film.2. RECENT EMMY WINNER ZENDAYA NABS LEAD IN RONETTES BIOPIC(Photo by Lev Radin/Everett Collection)Zendaya became the youngest person ever to win an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for HBO s Euphoria on September 20th, and within nine days, she has already scored her next major lead role. Recent awards-friendly distributor A24 (Moonlight, Room, The Florida Project) is preparing an adaptation of the memoir Be My Baby by 1960s pop music icon Ronnie Spector of the singing group The Ronettes. As part of the deal, A24 has attached Zendaya to star as Spector, and for Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Jackie Sibblies Drury (Fairview) to adapt the screenplay. Similarly to the way in which Aretha Franklin endorsed Jennifer Hudson to portray her in the upcoming biopic Respect, Ronnie Spector reportedly personally chose Zendaya to depict her in the film. The role of music producer Phil Spector will also be a major one in the film (possibily like that of Ike Turner in What s Love Got to Do with It?), but it has not been cast yet. Zendaya will next be seen in Dune (12/18/2020), the drama Malcolm Marie (with Tenet star John David Washington), and as M.J. in the next Spider-Man movie (12/17/2021).3. IDRIS ELBA WILL TAKE ON A KILLER LION IN BEAST(Photo by Michael Gibson/STX Entertainment)It s probably a coincidence, but the new Idris Elba movie announced this week bears some surface similarities to not just one, but two of Elba s most famous films. Beast (not to be confused with Beasts of No Nation, Certified Fresh at 91%) will be a survival thriller about a killer lion (not to be confused with last year s Cats). Although more specific details of the premise are being kept secret for now, Universal Pictures is comparing Beast to the shark thriller The Shallows, except that it s set in the African savannah, and the threat is a killer lion instead of a killer shark. Beast will be directed by Baltasar Kormákur, who has plenty of prior experience with survival stories like Everest (Fresh at 73%) and Adrift (Fresh at 69%) both true stories, by the way, presumably unlike Beast  and the screenplay was adapted by Ryan Engle (co-writer of the video game adaptation Rampage, Rotten at 51%). In related news, Idris Elba will also reunite with John Cena (one of his co-stars from next year s The Suicide Squad) in an Amazon Studios action movie Heads of State.4. IT LOOKS LIKE WE RE GETTING AN ANIMATED DR. SEUSS CINEMATIC UNIVERSE(Photo by ©Universal Pictures)During his career as a children s author, Dr. Seuss (A.K.A. Theodor Geisel) wrote and illustrated dozens of books that might seem perfect for adaptation as feature films, but there have actually been only a handful of them: How the Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cat in the Hat, Horton Hears a Who!, The Lorax, and The Grinch. J.J. Abrams Bad Robot production company is teaming up with Warner Bros. to correct those omissions, starting with two animated features to be released in 2026 and 2027. The goal appears to be something like a Dr. Seuss Cinematic Universe, (also possibly to be called the Seussiverse ) which will start with an animated adaptation of The Cat in the Hat in 2024 (separate from the Bad Robot productions), and then be followed by a spin-off of that book called Thing One and Thing Two in 2026. The third animated movie will be an adaptation of Oh, The Places You ll Go! (also the last Dr. Seuss book to be published during his lifetime), which Warner Bros is targeting for release in 2027.5. OSCAR ISAAC AND JAKE GYLLENHAAL TO CO-STAR IN FRANCIS AND THE GODFATHER (Photo by Eli Winston, Jason Smith/Everett Collection)Although this year s awards season has been shaken up COVID-19, some Oscar-friendly movies will still see release, and one of them that appears more pandemic-proof is David Fincher s Mank, about the making of Citizen Kane, because it s a Netflix film, so streaming is built into its model, pandemic or not. Time will tell if Mank will indeed be one of the year s major awards contenders, or whether it will find its audience (which was always part of the problem with Citizen Kane, too), but Hollywood is already preparing for another movie about the making of one of its greatest epic dramas. Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal are both attached to star in the drama Francis and the Godfather, which will tell the story of how young film director Francis Ford Coppola (Isaac) struggled with Paramount chief Robert Evans (Gyllenhaal) to get his vision of The Godfather (Certified Fresh at 98%) produced, including his fight to get the studio to back his casting of Marlon Brando in the title role. Francis and the Godfather will be directed by Barry Levinson, whose own classic films include Rain Man, Good Morning Vietnam, and Wag the Dog.6. BLACK ADAM FINDS ITS HAWKMAN IN ALDIS HODGE (Photo by Jess Miglio/©Paramount)One of the most enticing revelations about the upcoming Shazam! spinoff Black Adam (starring Dwayne Johnson) is that it will also serve as an introduction to the first live-action big-screen appearance of DC Comics original superhero team, the Justice Society of America. The first of the JSA members to be cast was Atom-Smasher, who will be played by Noah Centineo. That was a few months ago, but we now know that Centineo will also be joined by Aldis Hodge (The Invisible Man, Hidden Figures) as Hawkman, who, unlike Atom-Smasher, was one of the original JSA members back in the 1940s (Atom Smasher s JSA membership is much more recent in the comics). Hawkman is one of DC Comics heroes with the longest and arguably most convoluted backstories, and because he has been depicted a number of ways over the last 80 years, and it s unclear which version will appear in Black Adam. Black Adam is expected to start filming in either late 2020 or early 2021 for a release date of December 21, 2021. As this piece points out, the introduction of Hawkman and the Justice Society of America in Black Adam may eventually lead to the team (or some of its members) getting their own spin-off movies as well.7. BLACK-ISH STAR YARA SHAHIDI TO PLAY DISNEY S LIVE-ACTION TINKER BELL(Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)The two young actors who play Anthony Anderson s sons on Black-ish (Marcus Scribner and Miles Brown) have mostly stuck with just doing the show, but the actresses who play their sisters have been much more active, as Marsai Martin starred in last year s Little (Rotten at 46%), and Yara Shahidi starred in The Sun is Also a Star (Rotten at 51%), as well as getting her own spin-off series, Grown-ish. It s also relevant to point out that ABC (the network behind Black-ish and Grown-ish) is owned by Disney, which may be relevant to the news that Walt Disney Pictures has cast Yara Shahidi to be the new Tinker Bell in their live-action remake Peter Pan Wendy. As suggested by the title, this new take on the classic Disney animated feature Peter Pan (Fresh at 81%) appears to place an extra emphasis on the friendship between Peter (Alexander Molony) and his friend Wendy Darling (Ever Anderson), in addition to the regular bits about the villainous Captain Hook (Jude Law). Peter Pan Wendy will be directed by David Lowery, who also previously worked with Disney on their 2016 remake of Pete s Dragon (Certified Fresh at 88%).8. ZAC EFRON TO STAR IN REMAKE OF STEPHEN KING S FIRESTARTER (Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)Author Stephen King had such a flurry of successful novels in the 1970s and 1980s (and so many of them were adapted as films) that it s easy for some of them to be forgotten over time, as more attention goes to titles like The Shining, Carrie, Pet Sematary, Creepshow, and The Dead Zone, and not so much to movies like Cujo, Silver Bullet, and Firestarter. Released in 1984, Firestarter (Rotten at 34%) was far from a critical darling, but its cast was relatively impressive, as the title character was played by a young, post-E.T. Drew Barrymore, her caretaker was played by George C. Scott, and in a smaller role, her father was played by David Keith (An Officer and a Gentleman). The first casting news for Blumhouse s Firestarter remake seems to suggest that the father character may have more screen time, as Zac Efron has signed on to play that role. That character was also more central in Stephen King s novel, but the 1984 movie relegated most of his story to flashbacks; the choice of Efron suggests that the remake may stick closer to Stephen King s original narrative. Firestarter will be directed by Keith Thomas (The Vigil, Fresh at 91%) from a screenplay adaptation by Scott Teems, co-writer of the upcoming sequel Halloween Kills.9. 2020 IS NO TIME TO DIE FOR JAMES BOND AS HIS LATEST OUTING MOVES TO 2021 (Photo by MGM)It might feel like a lifetime ago, but it was less than seven months ago that the James Bond movie No Time to Die was one of the first major films to delay its release several months because of the COVID-19 pandemic, as it was moved by MGM from April 10th to November 25, 2020. Following the disappointing box office of recent films like Tenet, MGM announced today that they will be delaying the release of No Time to Die until Easter weekend next year, April 2, 2021. That was the same weekend that the next Fast and Furious movie, F9, was set to release, before Universal quickly responded by also pushing back that film more than a month to May 28, which is about a year after the film s original release date back on May 22, 2020. The delaying of No Time to Die also means that there will be no major Hollywood films between now and Pixar s Soul on November 20, and then after Soul, there are only two major blockbuster-level films still scheduled for 2020: Dune (12/18/2020) and Wonder Woman 1984 (12/25/2020). Will those three films hold on to their release dates, or will they also be delayed? And if they are delayed, what impact will the loss of most of 2020 have on the theatrical exhibition industry? We ll have to wait and see.On an Apple device? Follow Rotten Tomatoes on Apple News.
The cast of the Amazon superhero show The Boys got together for a Comic-Con@Home panel about the upcoming Season 2 (9/4/2020), including a look at an action-packed scene featuring The Deep (Chace Crawford) riding atop a massive whale (apparently a real prop). In addition to the returning cast members from Season 1, the panel also featured Aya Cash, who is joining the show in Season 2 as the superheroine Stormfront. Towards the end, producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg joined the fun to announce that Amazon has already picked up the show for a third season, although Rogen had to say, When can we film season 3? Anyone s guess! Hope sometime this decade. Aisha Tyler, who hosted the panel, was also announced to be the host of a new aftershow called Prime Rewind: Inside the Boys, which will debut online on August 28 with a special recapping the events of Season 1.

(Photo by © Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection)When Ben Affleck first burst onto most moviegoers’ radars alongside childhood best friend Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting – and collected a screenplay Oscar for his efforts – he seemed destined for a venerable acting career. Damon may have been the hit movie s lead, but Affleck pulled focus in fascinating ways. Next to Robin Williams’ conversation by the pond, and the famous “it’s not your fault scene,” Affleck  delivered one of the film’s most affecting moments when his character – a construction worker – rebuked Will for not maximizing his potential as a mathematician. The then 25-year-old s ability to move people, and his offbeat and mysterious charisma, had many critics predicting a bright future in prestige projects with a regular awards-season presence. He was going to be more DiCaprio than Stallone. And then something happened. From 1998 to 2006, studios attempted to fashion Ben Affleck into a prototypical leading man and his career went a decidedly different way than many had foreseen. First, he went the American hero route in Michael Bay’s jingoistic disaster movie Armageddon, and was largely accused of overacting as Liv Tyler’s love interest. Then came Force of Nature opposite Sandra Bullock, Reindeer Games with Charlize Theron, the lover’s triangle of Pearl Harbor, and a failed first run at superhero glory in Daredevil. There were bright spots – among them Shakespeare in Love and Changing Lanes – but they were the exceptions. In 2003, his turn in one of the worst films ever made, Gigli, and the next year’s sentimental Jersey Girl, had many forgetting what they originally saw in the promising young actor. (Photo by © Columbia/courtesy Everett Collection)Though Affleck is now lauded as an award-winning filmmaker, his stretch of questionable heartthrob and action-hero film roles during the early aughts instilled the widely held perception that he was a terrible actor. Forbes declared him Hollywood s biggest disappointment; others said he should stay behind the camera for good. But lately, with acclaimed turns in films like The Way Back, Affleck is reminding critics and audiences of the promise he showed early in his career, and his singular ability to portray forlorn and damaged characters seeking redemption. For those who ve watched his career closely, though, there has always been great work. It s about time we reconsider Affleck’s acting ability and recognize him as one of his generation’s great performers. Following Daredevil and other public failures, it was another superhero role of sorts that showed us again what Affleck was capable of. In 2006, the actor sharply shifted gears when he played former Superman George Reeves in Allen Coulter’s tragic biopic Hollywoodland. Here, Affleck played an actor trapped by the limited perceptions of his talent – a subject which presumably felt near to Affleck at the time. Reeves comes to hate the fame Superman brought to him, and turns to wrestling in the vain hope of revitalizing his career. The movie closes with a visceral sequence in which Reeves commits suicide with a Luger pistol. We watch as Affleck despondently stares into the distance as a tear grips his cheek; upon a close-up, he slightly turns his head, and the anger and hollowness of the man play vividly in his eyes. Few actors evoke the catastrophe of the soul as well as Affleck does here.(Photo by ©Warner Bros. Pictures/Courtesy Everett Collection)After the triumph of Gone Baby Gone, his first film as director, Affleck leaned into portraying miserably flawed men. In the taut political thriller State of Play, he’s a Congressman implicated in the death of his lover; in the exhilarating crime caper, The Town, which he also directed, his character severs himself from the love of his life after a botched robbery; in The Company Men, he explores corporate America’s apathy toward the middle-class worker. And though he plays the hero in the Oscar-winning Argo – a CIA specialist extracting American citizens from Iran during the hostage crisis – his character’s family life is fractured. Affleck s Tony Mendez loves his son, but so often misses the most important events in his life; when he tells Lester Siegel (Alan Arkin) he has a child, his voice cracks with regret. In these roles, Affleck rarely gets the girl, but he always claims the heartache. Affleck s most fantastically flawed and fascinating creation came in David Fincher’s unnerving thriller Gone Girl. An anti-romantic lead performance, Nick Dunne is neither suave nor appealing. Instead, the role turned the tables on everything studios wanted the actor to be during the late 1990s and early 2000s – America s heartthrob – by transforming him into the disturbing and philandering husband accused of murdering his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike). (Photo by Merrick Morton/TM and ©Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation. All rights reserved./Courtesy Everett Collection)While Pike rightfully earned a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her turn as the psychotic Amy, and the film was lauded for its skillful direction and shock twists, Gone Girl’s most memorable scene – and its iconic image – centers on a subtle acting moment from Affleck: The actor simply standing, feigning a smile while posing with the missing person’s poster of his wife. Dressed in a rumpled shirt and clearly exhausted, his half-hearted grin intimates both guilt and foolishness at once, a feeling that carries through his whole performance. When Nick goes on a talk show to apologize to Amy, hoping to coax her out of hiding through contrition, Affleck plays his remorse as perfectly canned, and when the blood-stained Amy returns home, his look of awestruck misery zings. And then, of course, came Batfleck. With Robert Pattinson now cast as Batman, there’s a keenness from some to forget Affleck’s caped crusader. Many fans are hoping Pattinson, following his psychologically violent roles in indie flicks like Good Time and The Lighthouse, will deliver some damaged goods and help them erase the memories of Affleck s Dark Knight and the movies in which he featured. But many fail to remember the promise the actor showed when first cast by Zack Snyder – and why he was, in many ways, so perfectly cast. (Photo by © Warner Bros. / Courtesy Everett Collection)The Batman in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a haunted loner born from the tragic milieu of Gotham, encompassed many of what audiences had seen in Affleck’s prior career highlights. Hollywood’s onetime golden boy, driven by failure toward darker material, fit perfectly into the older and more jaded mold Snyder crafted. Moreover, Affleck’s past as a romantic leading man, though spotty in quality, informed the belief he could adeptly capture the billionaire playboy persona of Bruce Wayne. And he largely succeeded in the role, ultimately, bringing the hardened edges grief provides, though his performance languished under a flawed script. This year, Affleck channeled a career’s worth of demons and struggles into Jack Cunningham, the basketball coach at the center of Gavin O Connor’s Certified Fresh dark sports drama, The Way Back. Though Jack’s an alcoholic father, still reeling from the collapse of his marriage and the death of his adolescent son from cancer, he’s recruited by his former Catholic high school to coach a now-crestfallen team. The onetime basketball star, now a construction worker, reluctantly grapples with his addictions for a chance at redemption. (Photo by © Warner Bros. / courtesy Everett Collection)The role resonated with much of what we know about Affleck’s personal life, and it gave him great freedom, too. In Dawn of Justice, when he leaned into Wayne’s tragic past and infamously screamed “Martha,” he was lampooned; as Coach Cunningham, Affleck had the independence to sketch those shades of grief and regret differently. Whether attending a triggering birthday party for his son’s best friend, or later during his drunken spell through a quiet neighborhood, he heartbreakingly portrays the destructive depths of grief and addiction. Critics and audiences took notice: Slashfilm s Hoai-Tran Bui described Affleck’s performance as “tremendous” and “raw,” while Christy Lemire described his portrayal as “the best work” he had done. The Way Back has even garnered the actor some quiet Oscar buzz. The film s success is fitting considering Cunningham, a construction worker, is a mirror of what Affleck’s character in Good Will Hunting might have become after Will left: a working stiff punching the time clock of life without the steady guidance of his friend. By looking toward the past, in concert with his past triumphs, Affleck proves both then and now his generationally great talent. The Way Back is available to rent or buy on FandangoNOW, Vudu, Google Play, and Amazon Prime.

This week s Ketchup brings you more headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles as Blade the Vampire Slayer, Captain Marvel 2, and Face/Off.This WEEK S TOP STORYA WIZARD OF OZ REMAKE IS IN THE WORKS(Photo by Everett Collection)Although the Oz books by author L. Frank Baum are well known, one could argue that the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz left such a strong legacy that it kept the number of later Oz movies to a relative minimum, including The Wiz (Rotten at 42%), Return to Oz (Rotten at 53%), and 2013 s Oz the Great and Powerful (Rotten at 57%). With this week s news, however, there are now three major productions in development based on or inspired by those books. Just last week, the Wicked movie (based on the stage musical prequel) received a breath of fresh air in the form of Crazy Rich Asians director Jon M. Chu, who joined the project. And then, this week, the animated adaptation of the spin-off book Toto: The Dog-Gone Amazing Story of the Wizard of Oz made its next step toward production via a new deal between Warner Bros. and the animation studio Animal Logic. As big of a deal as both Wicked and Toto might potentially be, however, the third project announced this week has the potential to be the biggest, as New Line Cinema is now developing a new adaptation of L. Frank Baum s original novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, which was the direct inspiration for the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. New Line has hired director Nicole Kassell (The Woodsman, Certified Fresh at 88%) to start development on the film, which unlike other adaptations can use elements from the 1939 movie, like the ruby slippers. Kassell also recently directed three episodes of HBO s Watchmen.Other Top Headlines1. SANDRA BULLOCK JOINS BRAD PITT S ACTION MOVIE BULLET TRAIN(Photo by ©Warner Bros.)Sandra Bullock and Brad Pitt have been two of Hollywood s biggest stars since the 1990s, but they ve never appeard together in the same movie. As of this week, that s about to change, as Bullock has joined the ensemble cast of the action movie Bullet Train, alongside Brad Pitt, Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2), Aaron Taylor Johnson (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Michael Shannon, Brian Tyree Henry, Joey King, Logan Lerman, and Masi Oka. David Leitch (Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, Fast Furious Presents: Hobbs Shaw) is directing Bullet Train from a screenplay by Zak Olkewicz (in what may be his first released film) adapted from the novel Maria Beetle by Japanese author Kōtarō Isaka, which tells the story of five assassins aboard a bullet train in Japan who discover that their targets are all related. Although Pitt is expected to be one of the assassins, it s not yet clear if Sandra Bullock is playing one, too.2. VELVET BUZZSAW ACTRESS CAST AS MYSTERIOUS CAPTAIN MARVEL 2 VILLAIN(Photo by ©Strand Releasing courtesy Everett Collection)The Marvel Cinematic Universe occasionally recruits its villains from relative comic book obscurity. In addition to major villains like Thanos, Dormammu, Hela, The Red Skull, and Ultron, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 gave us Ayesha, and the various Black Order villains in Avengers: Infinity War weren t even introduced in the comics until as recently as 2013. So, when an MCU villain is cast, but Marvel doesn t say who it is, we re left wondering if it s someone iconic or someone even diehard comics fans might need to look up on a wiki site. That leads us to the news today that Velvet Buzzsaw co-star Zawe Ashton has been cast as the main villain in Captain Marvel 2 (keeping in mind, of course, that Marvel movies frequently have more than one villain). Ashton is joining a cast that already includes Brie Larson (obviously), Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau from WandaVision), and Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan from the upcoming Disney+ series Ms. Marvel). Captain Marvel 2 will be directed by Nia DaCosta, whose highly anticipated sequel Candyman (8/27/2021) is due out this year after a delay prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Marvel Studios currently has scheduled Captain Marvel 2 for release on November 11, 2022.3. JACK BLACK WILL VOICE CLAPTRAP IN THE BORDERLANDS MOVIE(Photo by Hopper Stone/©Columbia Pictures)The Borderlands video game franchise is built around several characters who represent standard gaming tropes, but probably the most popular character in the games is the comedic robot NPC (non-player character) Claptrap. The first time we ever heard about casting for the Borderlands movie was in May of 2020, when Cate Blanchett started negotiations to play Lilith, the Siren, which established that the Borderlands movie is aiming for A-list stars. That was a trend we saw continue two weeks ago when Kevin Hart also joined the project as Roland, the Soldier. The third cast member to be announced was Jamie Lee Curtis (who also has two more Halloween movies coming in 2021 and 2022), who will play the scientist Dr. Tannis, another NPC in the games. That news was followed this week by the news that Jack Black will provide the voice of Claptrap, meaning that both characters cast this week aren t any of the games playable characters. Like Blanchett, Jack Black previously worked with director Eli Roth on the kids movie The House with a Clock in its Walls (Fresh at  65%), and more recently, he co-starred alongside Hart in the sequel Jumanji: The Next Level.4. WATCHMEN SCREENWRITER TO ADAPT MARVEL S BLADE STARRING MAHERSHALA ALI (Photo by ©New Line Cinema courtesy Everett Collection)One of the most surprising announcements at Marvel Studios San Diego Comic-Con presentation in 2019 was the news that the vampire hunter Blade would be rebooted for the MCU with two-time Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali attached to take over the role. This week, Blade took its next step forward by hiring screenwriter Stacy Osei-Kuffour, who previously worked on the HBO Max superhero show Watchmen. Blade does not yet have a director or a release date, but Kevin Feige confirmed in 2019 that it would be part of Marvel s Phase 5 (we re currently in Phase 4). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the title of the film will be Blade the Vampire Slayer (not to be confused with Buffy the Vampire Slayer). In somewhat related news, Hong Chau, who co-starred in Watchmen as the (borderline) antagonist Lady Trieu, has joined Brendan Fraser in The Whale, the next film from director Darren Aronofsky (The Wrestler, Black Swan), about a man who weighs over 600 pounds.5. ELISABETH MOSS JOINS MOVIE ABOUT THE MAKING OF THE GODFATHER (Photo by Mark Rogers/©Universal Pictures)One of the projects that Armie Hammer s dropped out of following his recent downfall was the Paramount+ series The Offer, about the behind-the-scenes drama behind the making of The Godfather (Certified Fresh at 98%). The true story of the making of The Godfather was to be both a series and a feature film, and Oscar Isaac and Jake Gyllenhaal have both been attached to star in the untitled feature film for a while now, as director Francis Ford Coppola and Paramount executive Robert Evans, respectively. This week, the film gained its third cast member, as Elisabeth Moss has joined the untitled project as Francis Ford Coppola s wife, Eleanor Coppola, who later went on to have her own directorial career. Whatever it ends up being titled, this making-of-The-Godfather feature film will be directed by Barry Levinson, whose recent films The Wizard of Lies, and Paterno were also based on true stories.6. MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ JOINS DUNGEONS DRAGONS (Photo by Giles Keyte/©Universal Pictures)Last year marked the 20th anniversary of the first live-action Dungeons Dragons (Rotten at 10%), and about the fifth anniversary of the start of development on a new reboot of the franchise (not counting the two direct-to-video sequels to the 2000 version). In 2017, Dungeons Dragons moved from Warner Bros. to Paramount Pictures, where the latter s Star Trek star Chris Pine signed on in December. This week, Dungeons Dragons signed two more stars, both of whom have had their biggest box office successes with Universal Pictures franchises. Fast and the Furious star Michelle Rodriguez and Justice Smith (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Detective Pikachu) have both signed on to co-star in Paramount s reboot of Dungeons Dragons, based on the popular role-playing game franchise. As with Chris Pine, the specifics about what sorts of characters they will play hasn t been announced yet. Dungeons Dragons (5/27/2022) will be directed for Paramount Pictures by the team of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, who previously directed the Vacation reboot (Rotten at 27%) in 2015 and the much better received 2018 comedy Game Night (Certified Fresh at 85%).7. ADAM WINGARD WILL DIRECT A REBOOT/SEQUEL OF FACE/OFF(Photo by ©Paramount Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)It feels like decades now that Hollywood has been obsessed with rebooting, remaking, and reimagining the movies of the 1980s, but slowly, gradually, the focus is turning to the much-maligned decade of the 1990s. If one movie is an iconic example of the 1990s action movie, there s a strong argument to be made for director John Woo s 1997 film Face/Off (Certified Fresh at 92%), starring Nicolas Cage and John Travolta as two men on opposite sides of the law who literally exchange faces. Director Adam Wingard (The Guest, Blair Witch, Death Note) most recently directed the upcoming monster movie Godzilla vs Kong (3/31/2021), so he s currently looking towards future projects, and one of them will be a reboot of the Face/Off franchise that will take the form of a sequel to the original film with a new cast. Of course, if any movie lends itself to being both remade and sequelized at the same time, it s Face/Off, since the premise basically negates any continuity issues.8. RUMOR CONTROL: SUPERMAN WON T BE IN SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS AFTER ALL (Photo by Clay Enos/©Warner Bros.)After the DC Comics movie Shazam! (Certified Fresh at 90%) ended with a comedy beat featuring a body double as Superman, fans were probably not at all surprised by online speculation and rumors that Henry Cavill would be co-starring as the Man of Steel in the sequel Shazam! Fury of the Gods (6/2/2023). Well, Variety debunked that rumor this week, as the trade publication has confirmed that Henry Cavill will not be joining Zachary Levi and Asher Angel in Shazam! Fury of the Gods as Superman. Shazam! director David F. Sandberg also Tweeted recently that halfway through shooting Shazam the plan was still for Cavill to be in it. Scoopers could have scooped that and been right at the time but wrong in the end. 9. ANIMATION STUDIO BEHIND ICE AGE, RIO, AND THE PEANUTS MOVIE TO SHUT DOWN(Photo by ©20th Century Fox Film Corp.)Walt Disney Pictures was already a massive hive of competing subsidiaries (including both Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios) before the 2019 finalization of the acquisition of the various Fox TV and film properties. So, this week s news is not particularly surprising, but it is still always sad to hear about the shutdown of a major employer, and for over 20 years, Blue Sky Studios was exactly that, with nearly 450 employees. Blue Sky released 13 animated feature films, including Ice Age and its four sequels, Rio (and Rio 2), Dr. Seuss Horton Hears a Who, The Peanuts Movie, and most recently and finally, Spies in Disguise. Specifically, the reason for Blue Sky shutting down is the COVID-19 pandemic. Although the Blue Sky library is still part of Disney, as are their intellectual properties, one project which will be canned is the animated adaptation of the Nimona webcomic by creator Noelle Stevenson, whose Lumberjanes was also at one point in development at 20th Century Fox as an animated feature. Nimona has previously been scheduled for release on January 14, 2022, and when it was cancelled, the film still had 10 months of production left.On an Apple device? Watching the Harry Potter movies in order, seeing the story unfold chronologically in-universe, used to be as easy as finding the one where Daniel Radcliffe looks youngest and starting from there. But the series has expanded now with the Fantastic Beasts movies, set some 70 years before The Sorcerer s Stone. So to watch the Harry Potter movies in order, your journey now begins with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, set in 1926 and starring Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scarmander. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is set in 1927. The third Fantastic Beasts intends to release July 2022, with two more movies to close out the Scarmander and Grindelwald saga. Then the story of Harry himself begins, starting with Sorcerer s Stone and concluding in the second-part of The Deathly Hallows, for eight Certified Fresh movies in a row. Do the stars of aspiring holiday classic Last Christmas know their classic holiday movies? We put Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, who headline Paul Feig s new Christmas flick, to the test with a special edition of our game, Name the Review. The game is straightforward enough: The duo reads one-liners from movie reviews of holiday classics and have to guess which movies are being reviewed. Simple right? Not as simple as it sounds. Check out Clarke and Golding as they struggle – hilariously – to guess Yuletide classics from It s A Wonderful Life to The Santa Clause.

沙巴体育游戏 50 States of Fright: Season 1 (2020) 85% (Quibi)Quibi’s first set of splashy “movies in chapters” mostly failed to connect with critics and audiences, but its second wave has been more promising — especially this epic Sam Raimi–produced horror anthology series. The idea is simple but ambitious: a horror story for all 50 states, each directed by a different horror filmmaker or filmmaking team, and each unfolding in two-to-three chapters that can run no more than 10 minutes. The Golden Arm (Michigan), directed by Raimi himself and starring Rachel Brosnahan and Travis Fimmel, is the best of the five stories released so far, a strange tale of just how far a man will go to please his wife. (Hint, he might just melt down a bunch of gold to make her a very fancy prosthetic that she definitely does not want to let go of!) But even the lesser entries – America’s Largest Ball of Twine (Kansas), among them – are elevated by sharp writing and direction, great visual effects, and the presence of big-name stars like Ming-Na Wen and Asa Butterfield. Now, if only I could cast all this terror to my TV! – Joel Meares, Editor-in-ChiefWhere to watch: QuibiCommitment: 1.5 hours (five stories so far)Detroiters 94% (Comedy Central )If you re having a hard time waiting for the second season of I Think You Should Leave to arrive on Netflix, you should definitely check out Detroiters with Tim Robinson and Sam Richardson. Detroiters may be more accessible to the average viewer than I Think You Should Leave, but it s far from being a traditional 30-minute sitcom. The series ran for only two seasons on Comedy Central, but quickly developed a cult following thanks to its rich, extremely quotable, semi-fictional world with its esoteric characteristics, businesses, and local celebrities. Tim and Sam play well, Tim and Sam, lifelong best friends who run an advertising business in their hometown of Detroit. They also live next door to each other, and Tim is married to Sam s sister. The kind of low-budget commercials they create are instantly recognizable to anyone who grew up with a local television station — Mad Men this is not. Sam, Tim, and their clients spirit of entrepreneurship and wholehearted investment in literally everything they do, however, sucks you in completely. Detroiters is a beautiful balance of the randomness of sketch comedy and the groundedness of a particular place. Sometimes I wonder what Tim and Sam would be up to now if they were still on the air, and console myself with the fact Netflix has picked up canceled shows before. – Sara Ataiiyan, Review CuratorWhere to Watch: FandangoNOW, Comedy Central, Amazon Prime Video, Vudu, iTunes.Commitment: Approx. 7 hours (across two seasons)Mrs. America: Miniseries (2020) 96% (FX on Hulu)Cate Blanchett portrays conservative activist Phyllis Schlafly with relish in the FX on Hulu series about the movement to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment. The two-time Oscar winner’s performance would alone be worth the binge, but she is joined by an all-star cast appearing as some of the era’s most iconic women, including Rose Byrne as Gloria Steinem, Margo Martindale as Bella Abzug, Uzo Aduba as Shirley Chisholm, Elizabeth Banks as Jill Ruckelshaus, and Tracey Ullman as Betty Friedan. The cast also boasts Sarah Paulson, John Slattery, Jeanne Tripplehorn, Ari Graynor, Melanie Lynskey, and Kayli Carter. Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (Captain Marvel) direct four of the nine episodes. Come for the star power, stay for an engaging exploration of the 1970s culture wars that divided the country, and the repercussions of which the U.S. still feels — sometimes painfully endures — today. – Debbie Day, Sr. TV EditorWhere to watch: FX on HuluCommitment: Approx. 8 hours (with one more episode dropping next week)No Passport Required  (PBS)Hosted by chef Marcus Samuelsson, PBS’s No Passport Required takes viewers on a culinary tour of immigrant communities nationwide. Each episode focuses on a single community in a single city — from Seattle’s thriving Filipino culinary world to the Nigerian–West African community that’s redefining the Houston dining scene — diving deep into the history, culture, and context of each. Along the way, Samuelsson encounters plenty of chefs, but also poets, musicians, business people, and other community members, each of whom fleshes out a new nuance or historical nugget. It s a refreshing reminder that food is not just for eating, but rather an essential part of community building. Samuelsson (Chopped, Iron Chef) is the perfect host, bringing energy and enthusiasm to every interview and new plate of food (all while sporting an impressive wardrobe that will make you wish you were a hat person). In a time when it’s hard to feel connected, No Passport Required provides a hopeful reminder that together we can get through just about anything — especially a good meal. – Haña Lucero-Colin, TV Curation ManagerWhere to watch: PBS, Amazon Prime Video, iTunesCommitment: Approx. 11 hours (across two seasons)Psych 89% (NBC)Psych contains all the gripping mystery elements of your favorite police procedural — think Castle or The Mentalist — but tempers it with the whimsical comedy of Scrubs or Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Shawn Spencer (James Roday) has an extraordinary gift for detective work — a gift drilled into him by his strict policeman father during childhood — but he only uses that gift to impress women and make a meager living calling in tips to the Santa Barbara PD for rewards. Until, that is, the police become convinced Shawn could have only gotten his highly specific information from the inside. Unable to prove his innocence, Shawn “admits” he solved the crimes using psychic abilities and, impressed by his “paranormal” gift, the SBPD contracts Shawn and his bookworm best buddy/partner, Gus (Dulé Hill), to help solve crimes when normal methods won’t work. Psych’s cult following is so strong, the cast and crew have managed to reunite for two TV movies after the show was canceled in its eighth season; 2017 saw the release of Psych: The Movie on USA Network, and Psych 2: Lassie Come Home will debut on NBC’s Peacock streaming service in July, so now’s the perfect time to watch every episode and hit the discussion boards with other Psych-Os before that big day!– Tyler Lorenz, Media CoordinatorWhere to watch: Amazon Prime Video, FandangoNOW, iTunes, Vudu,Commitment: Approx. 88 hours (eight seasons, one extended musical episode)Check out our regular May Binge Guide. Thumbnail image: © Quibi, © Comedy Central, Sabrina Lantos / © FX
