And it returns to theaters looking – and sounding – better than ever: The film has been re-imagined in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos, and will play in select locations for a single week. (And yes, we know it s been 11 years, technically, since it hit theaters – but the pandemic scuttled plans for an anniversary re-release last year.)To celebrate the return of Scott, Ramona, the Evil Exes, Knives, and Sex Bob-omb, director Edgar Wright sat down with Rotten Tomatoes for an exclusive and extended deep dive on how he and his creative team brought Bryan Lee O Malley s beloved comic strip to life. Why was Cera the perfect Scott ? How did he convince Beck to help out with the music? And whose teeth were they on the floor, lost in all those coins?Wright reveals all in the extended interview above – and check out highlights from the oral history below.(Photo by Kerry Hayes/©Universal/courtesy Everett Collection)“They cornered me and they said, ‘It s like John Hughes meets Kill Bill.’ I said, Well, I like that idea.’” Scott Pilgrim came into my life after a screening of Shaun of the Dead. It must ve been, I guess, in the summer of 2004, and the producers Adam Siegel and Jared LeBoff, who were producers on Scott Pilgrim, cornered me, and they had a copy of the first book, which was the only one out at the time, Scott Pilgrim s Precious Little Life: Volume 1, and they cornered me and they said, ‘This is your next movie.’ I was like, ‘Okay!’ They said, ‘It s like John Hughes meets Kill Bill.’ I said, Well, I like that idea.’ So they gave me the comic, and, they were half right, because I did make it into a movie, but it wasn t my next movie – I made Hot Fuzz next – but I really responded to the material.I loved the metaphor of the book. Bryan Lee O’Malley had written this book about how dating life and relationships and having to be mature in relationships was like a battleground; charting this journey to being with the woman who you think you re in love with is like a tournament in a martial arts film. I thought that was really interesting, the idea of fighting for a relationship, dealing with the baggage of a new partner, all of those things that you deal with in real life, but to do it in a really fantastical way. (Photo by Double Negative/©Universal/courtesy Everett Collection)“If we’d have cast super-fit Zac Efron, it s not quite the same movie.” Michael was the only person that I thought of for Scott Pilgrim. Anybody that was more – and this sounds like a sort of criticism of Michael, but it s not – but anybody who was more obviously studly and macho, didn t seem to me like the right thing for Scott Pilgrim. If we’d have cast super-fit Zac Efron, it s not quite the same movie, because it would seem like Zac Efron could handle himself in a fight, because he s like ridiculously ripped, whereas it was more funny and more relatable watching somebody like Michael A) be like a Romeo, and B) be like this amazing fighter. That to me was inherently funny. “She came in and auditioned against some more established people and just wiped the floor with them.” Brie Larson had been like a sort of child actor and even a teen pop star, but I remember she came in and auditioned against some more established people than her, and just like wiped the floor with them. Her audition, if you ve ever seen it on the Blu-ray, was just like extraordinary – and she was like 19. I remember I was in the room when she auditioned, and I was with Jared LeBoff, and we looked at each other and it was like, ‘We gotta cast her. Like, she was just amazing. (Photo by Double Negative/©Universal/courtesy Everett Collection)“They used to call me ‘the blink Nazi’ on set.” I wanted it to feel surreal, a bit like anime, and in animation, people don t really blink so much. There s [also] a thing, like Michael Caine, his school of acting, page one is, ‘Don t blink on a close-up,’ it s like classic Michael Caine technique: ‘Never blink on a close-up, it disempowers you, and it makes you look weak.’ And it s true, if somebody doesn t know their lines, they re blinking like crazy, so I sort of thought it was a good thing [to ask for no blinking]. If you look at Brie Larson s performance, particularly, she s so strong and so unblinking, so we got into this thing not blinking during takes, and they used to call me the blink Nazi’ on set. (Photo by Double Negative/©Universal/courtesy Everett Collection) I thought maybe Beck wouldn t wanna do it, because he s Beck and it s too small for him. Nigel [Godrich, the movie’s composer] was the one who said, ‘You should just ask Beck – Beck would love doing this; he would love reconnecting with his low-fi slacker roots.’ And so, it was Nigel who suggested Beck [write the music for Sex Bob-omb], and I thought maybe Beck wouldn t wanna do it, because maybe he s Beck and it s too small for him. But he loved it. Over one weekend, he basically did this demo of, like, 27 songs or something crazy. We d put artwork all around his studio, in his house, and he did it with like an 8-track, and it was just him and one other musician, Brian LeBarton. I remember on Sunday night Nigel texted me and said, ‘Hey, we ve got something,’ and then we went round, he had the CD, and then we drove around Los Angeles in the car listening to Sex Bob-omb, and basically that s the only real work that Beck did on the movie. Because here’s the thing: the demos that he d done were exactly the right sound, and Nigel said, ‘Why would you finish them anymore than this?’ – because this is what Sex Bob-omb could do. Sex Bob-omb wouldn t sound super polished, why don t we just use these? (Photo by Double Negative/©Universal/courtesy Everett Collection)“If you’re gonna make a musical, or a martial arts film, no two fights should be the same.” One of the things I really liked about martial art films from the 70s and 80s – the work of Jackie Chan particularly, and also early John Woo films – is that they had this kinda structure that was like an MGM musical. If you watch a Jackie Chan film from the late 70s through the 80s, you can see that there are elements where they ve got the structure of like a Gene Kelly musical. So if you’re gonna make a musical, or a martial arts film, no two fights [or musical numbers] should be the same, the number of combatants in a fight should be different every time. There should be some new novelty every time, or some new setting, or something that makes it interesting. So we sort of had to think of it in those terms: the second fight, with Lucas Lee, isn t really a fight with Lucas Lee, it s Scott Pilgrim fighting his henchman, you know, like in a video game; the third fight is a face-off; or the fourth fight is not really between Scott and the ex, it s mostly between Roxie and Ramona, and then Scott gets brought into it. Just imagine doing a gym session with Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman. There s amazing stunt work by doubles in the movie, but also everybody that s in the fight scenes – Mary, Michael, Mae, Jason, Ellen – really worked so hard on those sequences. Probably my fondest memory of the entire shoot was actually before we started filming, the stunt training we did every morning with the stunt team – just working out with the whole cast was really funny. Just imagine doing a gym session with Michael Cera and Jason Schwartzman, and Chris Evans, and Brandon Routh, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. (Photo by Kerry Hayes/©Universal/courtesy Everett Collection) Then the teeth are on the floor, but also on the floor are thousands of coins. Michael Cera was incredibly safety conscious, as you should be if you re doing fight scenes, but like maybe above and beyond. If he was doing a scene with a sword, he would have a short version of the sword, and he would be swishing around with the short version, and then for the effects part we would get a stunt double and bring in the long version, and be swishing that around.Michael was doing this take where he s fighting the henchman in the club, and Michael is saying like, ‘Am I I m not too close, everybody okay?’ and they re like, ‘Yeah, you can t hurt us, go as close as you dare, it s gonna be fine, don t worry.’ So Michael s doing his thing, being very conscientious. He then goes off to get a coffee, we do the take with the long sword, and then in the first take – bam! – one of the stuntmen gets hit in the teeth with the long sword and it knocks the teeth out. Then the teeth are on the floor, but also on the floor are thousands of coins. One of my most surreal memories of the shoot, is like myself and the entire stunt team looking on this nightclub floor for two front teeth in the middle of a bunch of coins. (Photo by Universal/courtesy Everett Collection)“I don’t understand how we made that movie.” I re-watched Scott Pilgrim with my editor Paul Machliss, who was one of the two editors on the movie, and who’s done my recent film, Last Night in Soho, and I sat there afterwards and I was thinking, ‘How the f k did we make that? It’s not so much it s something that you feel new about [when you watch it again], it s more like: ‘Wait, I don t understand how we made that movie!’ Scott Pilgrim vs. the World is screening exclusively in Dolby Cinema at AMC Theatres starting Friday, April 30, 2021. 2. 公平游戏环境
(Photo by Valerie Macon/AFP via Getty Images)It seems not even a pandemic can stop awards season. Some films like Dune are still a question mark to finish in time for a theatrical 2020 release, but with the Academy extending the window for eligibility and allowing films to bypass a theatrical roll-out, the show will go on even if the show is virtual. Bringing back our series of Ridiculously Early Oscar Predictions, we start the 2020-2021 awards season with the gentlemen. We admit it s a little early, but this isn t exactly a normal Oscar year. Our early Best Actor predictions list is still a bit tenuous, as several films have yet to be screened by critics groups and voters before the February deadline for Oscar submissions. No matter what happens, the upcoming season will make history as the first in which films will not have to screen in theaters to contend for Hollywood s top prize, which sets up some intriguing possibilities for what films could break through and snag a nomination. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced earlier this summer that the Oscars would be postponed by two months to April 25, 2021, and extended-release date eligibility rules to February 28, 2021, in addition to allowing streaming-only submissions and making all eligible films available on the Academy screening library, forgoing the typical Oscar voter screenings.Despite being already dubbed The Netflix Season by many of those in the know, fierce competition is a-brewing for 2020. A number of the films likely to be in the conversation have already screened and earned Tomatometer scores, and pundits are already singling out the major standout performances in them. Our list does include performances nobody has seen, but for which pre-release buzz and expectations are high. With that said, some on this list may end up in the Supporting Actor category.Whether we like it or not, the campaigns are quietly underway, the conversation has started, and we re now ready to join it. If history and basic math tell us anything, it is that most of these names won t make it to Oscar night, but we re pretty confident many of them will be right up there in awards chatter. So please read on as we break down our ridiculously early picks for 2020 Best Actor contenders.Don t agree with our picks? Have at us in the comments.Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield, Judas and the Black Messiah (2021) 96%LaKeith Stanfield and Daniel Kaluuya are two of the most electrifying young actors in Hollywood. Working with acclaimed directors like Denis Villeneuve, Rian Johnson, Destin Daniel Cretton, Jordan Peele, Steve McQueen, and Ryan Coogler (who serves as a producer on Judas and The Black Messiah), both actors have amassed impressive filmographies and varied work in just a few short years. After working together for Jordan Peele s Oscar-Winning masterwork Get Out, Stanfield and Kaluuya reunite here to portray two pivotal if not well-known names from the Black Civil Rights movement. Stanfield plays William O Neal, a petty criminal-turned-informant who agrees to work for the FBI to take down Fred Hampton (Kaluuya), the leader of the Illinois chapter of the Black Panther Party. Catapulted into the conversation by a fiery new trailer, the film has all the right pieces to make a deep run, come awards season. A tragic true-life tale with sociopolitical undertones featuring a former Best Actor nominee is the stuff Oscar campaigns are made of. The only question mark now is whether or not the film which has an unspecified 2021 release date will premiere before the February deadline to be eligible for 2020 accolades.Delroy Lindo, Da 5 Bloods (2020) 92%There have been dozens of Vietnam War films over the years to compete for Oscars, but none like Da 5 Bloods, Spike Lee s follow-up to his Oscar-winning hit BlacKkKlansman. The film features stand-out performances from Clarke Peters, Norm Lewis, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Chadwick Boseman, and Lovecraft Country star Jonathan Majors, but the most actorly performance belongs to Delroy Lindo, who s likely to compete for the Best Actor prize. As the bombastic member of Da 5 Bloods tasked with returning to Vietnam to bring home the remains of a comrade lost during the war and perhaps a hidden fortune Lindo is transformative. Despite a career that spans nearly five decades and over 70 credits, it s surprising that Lindo has never been in the awards conversation, and his role here as the Trump-supporting Vietnam vet with PSTD is his best shot. Spike Lee is coming off his Oscar win for BlacKkKlansman, and his cachet with voters has never been higher. With its timely message, the film could be a huge play for Netflix, which is assumed to do well in this streaming-friendly season.Timothée Chalamet, Dune (2021) 89%Jacqueline ColeyIn the four short years since he broke out into the mainstream with his Oscar-nominated performance in Call Me By Your Name, Timothée Chalamet s name has percolated in the awards conversation. This year he has the enviable position of having two films that could earn him a nomination: Wes Anderson s The French Dispatch and Denis Villeneuve s Dune. His turn in Dune, however, is what we re banking on for him and Arrival director Villeneuve to weave some Oscar magic, with a long-awaited adaptation of the award-winning science-fiction novel by Frank Herbert, poised to be a far cry from David Lynch s much-derided 1984 adaptation. Villeneuve has been on an unbeatable streak with critics and has a proven track record for crafting genre films that capture voters attention, scoring nominations for four of his last five Certified Fresh features, though he failed to secure an acting nomination for Amy Adams in Arrival. It stands to reason that if Dune lives up to even half of its hype, it could equal the accolades of George Miller s Mad Max: Fury Road and perhaps top it with an acting nomination for Chalamet. Starring alongside Oscar Issac, Zendaya, Jason Mamoa, and Javier Bardem, Chalamet is currently in Budapest filming re-shoots; a trailer is expected by the end of the month, and Villeneuve recently said that Dune could be this generation s The Lord of the Rings, so anything is possible.Anthony Hopkins, The Father (2020) 98%(Photo by Sony Pictures Classics)Since The Father s debut at the Sundance film festival earlier this year, Anthony Hopkins has been penciled in at the top of just about every Best Actor tip sheet by awards prognosticators. Still Fresh at 100% on the Tomatometer, the film, which is based on a French play, has seen acclaimed adaptations for Broadway, the London West End, and the French stage, and in each iteration, the actor playing the titular Father has taken home the best acting prize. Adapted and directed by the original playwright, Florian Zeller, the film is a poignant and disturbing journey through the deterioration of a man s mind. Suffering from Alzheimer s, an aging man stubbornly refuses his daughter s aid despite the grown evidence he is losing his grip on reality. A difficult watch, Hopkins work is incomparable with Gregory Ellwood of The Playlist calling it his best work this century. It should bring Hopkins back into the Lead Actor conversation following his supporting nomination last year playing retired Pope Benedict for The Two Popes, and it could be the role that brings him back to the winner s dais for the first time since he won in 1991 as the iconic and terrifying Hannibal Lecter in Jonathan Demme s The Silence of the Lambs.Andrew Garfield, The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021) 66%Televangelists Tammy Faye Bakker and her husband Jim were two of the most salacious personalities of the 1970s and early 80s, and this drama, based on the award-winning documentary The Eyes of Tammy Faye Bakker, chronicles their rise and very public fall. The story, filled with drugs, fraud, sexuality, and, of course, Jesus, is as legendary as it is incredulous and should place both Jessica Chastain (as Tammy Faye) and Andrew Garfield (as Jim) on the lips of many prominent voices in awards punditry. It also doesn t hurt that it was directed by Michael Showalter, who was in the director s chair for the 2017 Oscar-nominated film The Big Sick. This is another film without a solid release date, so it could be pushed back to 2021, but it will likely still screen in time for the 2020 season. Keep an eye out for an I, Tonya-styled campaign strategy for the previously nominated Garfield and two-time nominee Chastain.Ben Affleck, The Way Back (2020) 84%Ben Affleck has been unfairly maligned as mediocre despite two Oscars and acclaimed work in award-winning films, including Shakespeare in Love, Argo, Good Will Hunting, Gone Baby Gone, and The Town. Following some personal and professional hardships, Affleck kicked off the year with a celebrated performance that mirrored his personal struggles. The newly single father of three plays Jack Cunningham, a former high school basketball phenom who never lived up to expectations and buried his pain at the bottom of a bottle. Forced to take a coaching job at his alma mater years later, he focuses himself on helping the young team, which might be his final shot for redemption. It was a surprisingly well-received entry during the typically lackluster releases of January, and critics raved about the film s feelgood story arc and Affleck s heartfelt performance. Currently rated Certified Fresh at 83% on the Tomatometer, the comeback drama has a built-in awards-friendly storyline, based on true events that are similar to the recently sober star s own personal battles with alcohol exactly the type of narrative strategists love to parrot to voters during the season.Eddie Redmayne and Sacha Baron Cohen, The Trial of the Chicago 7 (2020) 89%(Photo by Netflix)Produced by Steven Spielberg and written and directed by Oscar-winner Aaron Sorkin, The Trial of the Chicago 7 was thought to be a surefire awards contender for Paramount earlier this year. However, difficulties arising from COVID-19 prompted Paramount to sell the film to Netflix, giving the streaming giant yet more ammunition for an impressive haul in what many are dubbing the Netflix Season. The story of seven men charged with inciting a riot outside the Democratic convention in 1969 as part of a larger protest to the Vietnam War is another film tailor-made for awards in an election year. It features key figures from the time, including Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton (the center of the aforementioned Judas and The Black Messiah) as well as political activist Bobby Seale and famed members of the Chicago 7 Abbie Hoffman and Tom Hayden. Hoffman and Hayden are played by Oscar nominee Sacha Baron Cohen and Oscar-winner Eddie Redmayne, respectively, and both men are poised to rise above the already stacked cast that includes Succession s Jeremy Strong, Micheal Keaton, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Willliam Hurt.John David Washington, Tenet (2020) 70%At several points in the past few months, there was some question whether or not Christopher Nolan s latest psychological action film, Tenet, would even reach theaters; as of now, it looks like it will, at least internationally. Never in doubt from a production standpoint, as the film has been long finished, the only question was if the global pandemic would prevent the film being screened in theaters. As Nolan is a staunch advocate of the theatrical experience, it was unlikely that it would shift over to a streaming platform or VOD, especially since Nolan has gone on record to say the films is most designed for the audience/big-screen experience. Appearing alongside our next Batman, Robert Pattinson, and Elizabeth Debecki in what seems to be a mind-bending Inception-style action flick, the star of the film is John David Washington, who looks to achieve what he was unable to garner for his breakout film, Spike Lee s BlacKkKlansman. The plot of  Tenet has been kept tightly under wraps even the name of Washington s character, which is currently listed as the protagonist but expectations are high, as Nolan, like Dune s Denis Villeneuve, is a director known for his ability to rack up Oscar nominations for genre films. As last year s Best Actor prize went to a role-based off a comic book character, it s reasonable to believe that this year, an exceptional performance from a genre thriller could do the same.Tom Hanks, News of the WorldIf it s Oscar season and Tom Hanks is in a movie, he s likely in the conversation. However, his Supporting Actor Oscar nomination last year for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood was his first in nearly 20 years. After flirting with a nomination for Sully, The Post, and Captain Phillips, Hollywood s favorite dad is back in in the conversation with two pictures: Greyhound, in which he plays a captain for the third time, and News of the World, where you guessed it he plays yet another Captain. Hanks earned positive reviews for Greyhound, which he also wrote, but his best shot at a Best Actor nomination is likely for Paul Greengrass adaptation of the 2016 novel News of the World. Written by poet and author Paulette Giles, the novel set off a bidding war when it was optioned in 2017, eventually landing at Universal pictures. Unlike Netflix and smaller streamers, large-scale studios like Universal might be at a bit of a disadvantage at voting time, as their tried and true method for promotion cocktail parties, Q As, and craft showcase events will no longer be viable in the days of COVID-19. After three straight years with a favored film in the Best Picture race (Get Out, Green Book, and 1917), one of which was a winner, it will be interesting to see how Universal and the other large studios fare in the new landscape, and the Oscar push for News of the World and Hanks, in particular, will be a strong indication of whether or not they can stay nimble and adapt when forced to find innovative ways to reach voters. Also in contention: Gary Oldman MankLiam Neeson Ordinary LoveDenzel Washington The Tragedy of MacbethBenicio Del Toro The French DispatchMatt Damon StillwaterAnsel Elgort West Side StoryMichael Fassbender Next Goal Wins亚博最新APP官网下载哈利波特魔法觉醒是一款哈利波特原著官方授权的正版手游,采用的是卡牌组合玩法,和电影画面风格有些类似,不同的卡牌组合会释放不同的技能,有着独特的魔法特效烙印在玩家心中。这款游戏的剧情画面和配音都非常有代入感,后期卡牌的策略和升级很重要,快来自己体会吧!

2.26.4 5月喜迎1. Hallelujah As anyone who has ever watched a televised talent competition will tell you, Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” has been subjected to its fair share of abuse over the years. Nowhere, though, has the song been more thoroughly beaten up than in this scene from Zack Snyder’s Watchmen, an otherwise fascinating superhero flick that has its hardcore defenders. What was a powerful moment in the graphic novel is laughable here, as Nite Owl (Patrick Wilson) and Silk Spectre (Malin Akerman) trade grunty-faces in their steampunk binoculars-looking sex pod all while the booming voice of Cohen… booms. Just when you think it can’t get any worse, the pod shoots flames at the moment of climax. Disagree, passionately? Let us know in the comments, and share your favorite so-bad-they re-good movie sex scenes.

Ghcxuf Season 1 of AMC horror anthology series The Terror took viewers north to the Arctic in the mid-1800s and stranded them there along with a starving, desperate expedition crew that was slowly descending into madness and a ferocious, definitely-not-a-bear creature that tore at survivors bit by terrifying bit. The season – which starred Jared Harris, Tobias Menzies, and Ciarán Hinds as officers on the doomed expedition – has a 93% Certified Fresh Tomatometer score, was hugely popular with Rotten Tomatoes visitors, and seemingly grew its audience through strong word of mouth.“I like to joke, ‘If you loved season 1, you ll get none of it in season 2,” season 2 showrunner Alexander Woo told Rotten Tomatoes ahead of The Terror: Infamy premiere. This time, the setting mostly sticks to U.S. soil, but rather than a giant, bounding beast of teeth, claws, and fur, the new season takes a more subdued tack; its terror comes in the form of a haunting.“The yūrei is very specific. It s the thing crawling out the television set in The Ring. It s the spirit of a dead person – usually, in the folklore, a woman who has been wronged in life and has come back with this insatiable rage, this all-consuming hunger that cannot be – it is literally impossible to quench,” Woo explained.(Photo by AMC)The spirit of season 2 then lies in the genre of kaidan, old-fashioned Japanese ghost stories, which U.S. audiences have not seen much of on TV, aside from genre films playing on cable or on streaming services or in Japanese series available online. This story starts at Terminal Island, between San Pedro and Long Beach in California, ahead of the bombing of Pearl Harbor, and follows Japanese families into internment by the U.S. government during wartime. Woo and his team didn’t have a book to follow, as season 1 executive producers David Kajganich and Soo Hugh did in adapting Dan Simmons’ 2007 fictionalized account of the doomed Arctic expedition, but were able to research eyewitness accounts from about 125,000 internment camp survivors from archives and organizations, like the Japanese American National Museum and Densho at Heart Mountain, which was one of the camps. The goal was to recreate the world of the internment camps.“We were the beneficiaries of some real, real geniuses on the show who built a world out of Vancouver, which is not a small task. Vancouver s a very modern city. It doesn t look like 1940s anything. To create not only a period world which spans two continents, and many, many states, it is no small feat,” Woo said. “To do it in a way that doesn t fall into those images you get in your mind of World War II period pieces — it s drab, you know? I didn t want it to feel drab. I wanted it to feel very present, and very alive. They created a visual signature with this piece. John Conroy and Barry Dunleavy, our cinematographers, created this really gorgeous cinematic visual style that was really lush, and moody, and atmospheric.“Then, Jonathan McKinstry, our production designer, went into painstaking detail to recreate the world from archival photos. So much so that when George Takei walked into our set, he said, ‘This is exactly how I remember it, with one exception.’ With the exception of some plates that we had, which were not chipped enough. We went and chipped them up so they would look a little more worn,” Woo recalled.(Photo by AMC)Takei plays Yamato-san, an 80-year-old living on Terminal Island who warns members of the younger generations of the danger of the yūrei.“Early on in the season, the characters use a bunch of different terms because they re not entirely sure what it is.,” Woo said. “Early on they use terms like ‘obake,’ which is a term for a spirit, which is kind of neutral. It could be even benevolent. It could be benevolent, or malevolent. Then, they use the term bakemono’ a little later on, which refers to something a little more malevolent.”Infamy’s story focuses particularly on 22-year-old Chester Nakayama (Derek Mio), who has dropped some of the elder generations’ cultural observances – like believing in yūrei – for his own American experience, including dreams of becoming a Life magazine photographer and a relationship with Mexican-American Luz Ojeda (Cristina Rodlo).“The genesis of this comes from my co-creator Max Borenstein, who had actually heard George Takei give a talk 20 years ago, and was inspired to pitch this idea to AMC of telling an internment story through this genre lens, and specifically using the kaidan – or Japanese folk tales/Japanese ghost stories – at the center of it, and that would be the genre component of it,” Woo related.“You see in the first few episodes, to the immigrant generation, the older generation, the ghosts are very real. They are as real as you or I,” he said. “It is not a figment or a superstition or any sort of made up hoo-ha. To Chester s generation, this is just some sort of weird old-country belief that he does not believe, until [a point when] he s pretty sure it s real now. But early on, he completely pooh-poohed the notion. And that, to me, is a great illustration – one of many – of the rift between the immigrant generation and the American-born generation, the Issei and Nisei, in our show.”(Photo by Ed Araquel/AMC)Chester feels confined and complains early on that his parents moved from one island to a smaller island, but he thinks of himself as wholly American with access to all of America, Woo said.“Chester is, for me, an illustration of what it s like to embrace a country that doesn t embrace you back, you know? As we find out in subsequent episodes, his Americanness is challenged,” Woo said. “And so the yūrei represents something that is organically part of the culture of his father s generation, and he has to confront his own Japaneseness in order to deal with it. He has to accept it and then understand it and then find a way to confront it. And that s why we felt that that was an appropriate angle into the supernatural part of the story.”The series also stars Kiki Sukezane as Yuko Tanabe; Shingo Usami and Naoko Mori as Chester’s parents, Henry and Asako Nakayama; and Miki Ishikawa as Amy Yoshida. Casting was done in the U.S., Canada, and Tokyo, resulting in a cast made up of actors from Japan and those of Japanese ancestry. George is arguably the most notable living person who s ever lived with the internment. He s also a working actor in our business. It seems obvious, and natural for us to at least offer him a role in our show. He says he s made it his life s work. He s declared this many times, that this is his life s work: to bring awareness to this period in history because there s so many lessons from that that could be taken from that to the present. To our delight, he agreed enthusiastically to be part of our show, Woo said.“The casting of the rest of the show was a monumental feat by our team of casting directors. We have Carrie Audino here in L.A., and she s won Emmys for Mad Men and West Wing,” he said. “We had Yôko Narahashi in Tokyo, and we had the casting directors in Vancouver as well: Corinne Clark and Jen Page. That entire team scoured four continents to find the cast where — we re very proud of this —every single Japanese and Japanese-American speaking role is portrayed by an actor of Japanese ancestry. The original idea behind that was, there s a lot of Japanese focus in the show. Obviously, we need people who could speak the language.(Photo by Ed Araquel/AMC)“As we were going through the casting process, we found that so many Japanese-American actors, or Japanese-Canadian actors, had such a personal connection to the internment, which is probably not surprising, because, if your family has been here since the ’40s, you lived through the internment [and/or] your family lived through the internment. So many people had such deep investment in it that we felt we should just cast wall-to-wall with actors of Japanese ancestry, because they brought such an investment to the material.”Woo noted that he is himself of Chinese ancestry and feels connected to the heart of the story: the inevitable rift between a generation that immigrates to a new country that will perhaps never accept them, and their children born in that country who lose pieces of their cultural identity in their assimilation as naturalized citizens.“There are resonances for almost anyone who has a generational connection to having an immigrant experience,” he said. “In this country, frankly, you don t have to go very far back to get to an immigrant in anyone s family. This story, as we came to explore and meet with people and talk with people, is the story of the Japanese-American people, but it s not specifically exclusively a story for the Japanese-American people. There re lessons from this that speak to anyone whose family has been touched or shaped by the immigrant experience, which really is just about everyone.”(Photo by Ed Araquel/AMC)Production designer McKinstry returned to the series from season 1, but other contributors to season 2 are new, including co-costume designers J.R. Hawbaker and Tish Monaghan.“The world really came to life in the costumes,“ Woo said, describing how Hawbaker met with Terminal Islanders and found archival photos of clothing worn during the period to help define each character over the course of several years. “[They] were able to build a world using both vintage pieces and pieces they created.“The kimonos, specifically, which are incredibly labor intensive — it usually takes over a year to build a kimono, and we had to build several of them, and the multiple versions, because you need one for the double, you need one for the stunt person. They get dirty, they get bloody,” he said. “There were these fabrics that J.R. specifically found that had this shimmer to it, this ghostly shimmer to it, which it was really astonishing. … We had an entire kimono team … The kimono wrangler, the kimono designer, the people doing the dyeing. It was its own production; I don t even remember how many people, but it was a large team just to deal with the kimono.”Even with elaborate costuming and exacting production design from another time, Woo wanted the story to come alive for modern viewers. The idea of using a supernatural element to begin with, the idea was to use that genre toolbox as a way for the audience to access the emotions of the historical experience, he said. Because when you re doing a period piece, there s frequently a danger of it feeling like a museum piece, of feeling that 😈😈

Jordan, as Creed successfully introduced the world to another scrappy underdog in the Rocky saga, Adonis Creed. That film was a critical and commercial success, but it was just the first chapter of Adonis Creed s journey. This week, the franchise returns to one of its most iconic moments the tragic fight between Russian boxer Ivan Drago and Adonis Creed s father Apollo in Rocky IV  for Creed II, a tale of revenge and redemption that bridges the generations and ties the new champ s story to Rocky s legacy.RT editor Jacqueline Coley sat down with director Steven Caple Jr. and stars Michael B. Jordan, Tessa Thompson, Dolph Lundgren, and Florian Munteanu to chat about the new film; talk about the growth of Adonis, Bianca, and their relationship; explain how difficult a language Russian is; and discuss training montages and music collaborations. Also, we learn about Sylvester Stallone s on-set shenanigans.Creed II opens in theaters on November 21.

ptation of the sixth novel, Confess, Fletch, which Hamm is both starring in and producing. It also turns out that Confess, Fletch will be a Mad Men reunion project for Hamm, as he has cast John Slattery, who played Don Draper s boss and eventual partner Roger Sterling. Other Confess, Fletch co-stars will include Marcia Gay Harden, Kyle MacLachlan, and Annie Mummulo (Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar).7. CHRIS PRATT TO STAR IN KARATE COMEDY THE BLACK BELT (Photo by Chuck Zlotnick/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)For most of the last seven years since Chris Pratt scored two big hits in 2014 with The LEGO Movie and Guardians of the Galaxy, his big screen output has focused on big franchise action movies like his various movies as Marvel s Star-Lord and  the Jurassic World franchise. Pratt s first real big break, of course, was as the goofball Andy Dwyer on the NBC sitcom Parks and Recreation, and it looks like he may channel the spirit of Andy again, as he will star in a karate-themed movie called The Black Belt for frequent Saturday Night Live sketch director Paul Briganti. Pratt will star in The Black Belt as an eccentric uncle who trains his shy teenage nephew in the ways of karate. The role of the nephew hasn t been cast yet.8. LANCE REDDICK TO REPRISE CONCIERGE ROLE IN JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 (Photo by ©Summit Entertainment)When it comes to franchises with recurring casts, it s easy to take it for granted when it s announced that a particular actor is indeed returning for the next movie, but that doesn t mean it s not news. Prolific TV actor Lance Reddick (The Wire, Fringe, LOST) has been in every John Wick movie thus far as the mysterious Charon, the concierge of the Continental, where international assassins come to mingle and rest up, and he will do the same again in John Wick: Chapter 4. Reddick and star Keanu Reeves will be joined by a cast of new co-stars that includes Donnie Yen, Shamier Anderson, Hiroyuki Sanada, and pop star Rina Sawayama.9. COLD PURSUIT AND GREENLAND SEQUELS THAWING (Photo by ©STX Entertainment)Despite the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the movie business, two actors who showed they were still able to attract audiences (on some level) were Scotland s Gerard Butler (with Greenland, Certified Fresh at 78%) and Northern Ireland s Liam Neeson (with Honest Thief and The Ice Road). Just before COVID-19 struck, Neeson also starred in the action thriller Cold Pursuit (Fresh at 69%), and this week, the news broke that Studiocanal is moving forward with plans for a Cold Pursuit sequel (along with lots of other new projects announced at Cannes on Tuesday), which will presumably find Neeson s snowplow driver again in some sort of danger. Cold Pursuit 2 wasn t the only snow-themed sequel to make the news this week, as Greenland: Migration was confirmed to start filming in 2022, with Butler, Morena Baccarin, and director Ric Roman Waugh all returning for the sequel, which will focus on the family from the first film coping with life (spoiler) in the post-apocalyptic world following the events of Greenland. On an Apple device?
