This week s Ketchup brings you another 10 headlines from the world of film development news (the stories about what movies Hollywood is working on for you next), covering such titles as The Batman, Venom, and The Matrix 4.This WEEK S TOP STORYZOE KRAVITZ POUNCES ON CATWOMAN FOR THE BATMAN, PAUL DANO RIDES FOR RIDDLER(Photo by Gregorio T. Binuya/Everett Collection)Going into this week, the only actor that we had heard was in talks to play a villain in The Batman (6/25/2021) was Jonah Hill. Now we have two people confirmed, and none of their names is Jonah. Zoe Kravitz is Catwoman. On Thursday, the news broke that Hill had dropped out of talks to play a Batman villain, potentially because Hill had asked for million, twice what Warner Bros. was paying Robert Pattinson to be Batsy. Whatever his role was, The Riddler is now on the scene, who has signed on Paul Dano. Meanwhile, the search is still on for the third villain: Penguin. In related news, Robert Pattinson also made a surprising revelation this week, saying that his version of The Batman is not a hero.    Other Top Headlines1. MATRIX 4: NEIL PATRICK HARRIS IN, JADA PINKETT-SMITH IN TALKS(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)Last week, we learned that Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Black Manta from Aquaman) had been cast in a new lead role (AKA not Morpheus, etc.). And this week, we heard about two other possible new additions, plus a returning cast member from the two sequels. Let s start with Jada Pinkett Smith, who is now in talks with Warner Bros to reprise her character Niobe, the ship captain. Jada Pinkett Smith s recent roles have included Bad Moms, Girls Trip, and this summer s Angel Has Fallen. One of the new characters will be played by Neil Patrick Harris; various guesses online include a Mr. agent, the adult Spoonboy, or a younger version of The Architect. The third name in play this week is Jessica Henwick, who is probably best known for playing Colleen Wing in Netflix-Marvel s Iron Fist series. 2. ROBERT EGGERS  VIKING EPIC THE NORTHMAN ATTRACTS THE WITCH AND THE LIGHTHOUSE ALUM(Photo by A24/courtesy Everett Collection)This month s spooky black-and-white drama The Lighthouse is only director Robert Eggers second feature film (after 2015 s The Witch), but already the guy appears to be developing his own regular cast of actors. Eggers next film will be a Viking revenge film set in 10th century Iceland, and stars both previous and new to his troupe have been announced. Let s start with the new: Nicole Kidman and brothers Alexander and Bill Skarsgård. The previous: Anya Taylor-Joy and Willem Dafoe. In related news, Willem Dafoe also this week officially joined Guillermo del Toro s Nightmare Alley remake. 3. GAL GADOT TO PRODUCE AND STAR IN WORLD WAR II POLISH UNDERGROUND BIOPIC(Photo by Priscilla Grant/Everett Collection)It has long been a Hollywood tradition that when movie stars get to a certain status, the opportunity opens up for them to guide their own careersand potentially, those of others) through their own production company. Gal Gadot, whose next major film will be next summer s Wonder Woman 1984, has formed a company with her husband Jaron Varsano called Pilot Wave. The first announced film for the new company will be Irena Sendler, a historical thriller about the life of Polish Underground leader, whom Gal Gadot will also portray. Sendler s organization worked in the Warsaw ghetto of World War II to save over 2,500 Jewish children, among other anti-Nazi efforts.4. JOHN KRASINSKI AND RYAN REYNOLDS TEAMING UP FOR IMAGINARY FRIENDS(Photo by Paramount /Courtesy Everett Collection)After two indie films (Brief Interviews with Hideous Men and The Hollars), actor-turned-director John Krasinski had a surprise blockbuster hit with his third film, the sci-fi thriller A Quiet Place (in which he starred with his wife, Emily Blunt). Krasinski quickly moved ahead with a Quiet Place 2 sequel (3/20/2020), but with this week s news, Krasinski appears ready for another original movie. Krasinski will both direct and costar in the comedy Imaginary Friends, with Ryan Reynolds. The high concept comedy will tell the story of a man (Reynolds) with the magical ability to see other adult people s imaginary friends, some of which, lacking love and friendship, turn to the dark side. 5. JURASSIC WORLD 3 RECRUITS NEW STARS FROM SHE S GOTTA HAVE IT AND SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS(Photo by Netflix / courtesy Everett Collection)A few weeks ago, one of the big stories of that week was that original Jurassic Park stars Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum, and Sam Neill were all returning for Jurassic World 3 (6/11/2021). This week, Universal Pictures appeared to be focusing instead on casting new roles. The first announced was Mamoudou Athie, who is probably best known for his role in Facebook Watch s Sorry For Your Loss, as well as in The Get Down and Patti Cake$. Then, earlier today, Variety also reported that DeWanda Wise of Netflix s She s Gotta Have It is now in talks for a leading role. It s not yet known what sort of roles either Athie or Wise will be playing when Jurassic World 3 is released on June 2021, the same month as Micronauts, Sesame Street, and The Batman.6. THE ADDAMS FAMILY SEQUEL ALREADY IN DEVELOPMENT FOLLOWING MILLION OPENING WEEKEND(Photo by MGM / courtesy Everett Collection)MGM probably had ideas in the work for a sequel to The Addams Family far before its release last week, but following its million opening weekend, it s go time. MGM has scheduled The Addams Family 2 for October 22, 2021, which is the weekend after Halloween Ends. It s not yet known if the original voice cast is also signed  to return for the sequel. 7. NAOMIE HARRIS JOINING WOODY HARRELSON S CARNAGE IN VENOM 2 AS SHRIEK(Photo by Kristin Callahan/Everett Collection)We ve known since the ending of Venom that Woody Harrelson would be costarring in next year s Venom 2 (10/2/2020) as the crimson symbiote-powered serial killer Carnage. It wasn t until this week that it was revealed that Tom Hardy s Venom and Woody Harrelson s Carnage would actually be joined by a third symbiote-possessed character,  in the form of the female villain Shriek. Sony Pictures didn t delay much after letting that news out, however, as just before we went to press today, we learned that Shriek will be portrayed by British actress Naomie Harris (Moonlight, Skyfall). 8. DANIEL KALUUYA WANTS TO GIVE THE WORLD A NEW BARNEY THE DINOSAUR MOVIE(Photo by Polygram Filmed Entertainment/courtesy Everett Collection)Last year marked the 20th anniversary of Barney s Great Adventure, which attempted to take the then-popular kids TV show, Barney Friends and turn it into a movie franchise. The plan didn t work and the TV show went off the air in 2009. Even so, Barney Friends obviously is remembered with some nostalgia by the now-adults who watched the show during its 90s heyday. And so perhaps it s not surprising that a Barney reprise is now in development. British actor Daniel Kaluuya, who is probably best known for both Get Out and his role in Black Panther, has teamed up with Mattel Film (via his 59% production company) to start development on a live-action Barney movie. It s not yet known in what form Barney will be depicted in this movie, but three possible options are: #1 a big purple foam costume like the original TV show, #2 a computer animated (but still cartoony) purple dinosaur, or #3, a full-giant-sized purple Tyrannosaur Rex (the original dinosaurs stood anywhere from 12 to 20 feet tall).

The Holiday Movie Season is here (hooray!), and it s not off to a good start (boo!). But save your panic, because this is still the season when The Rise of Skywalker, Frozen II, and a new Jumanji are going to make about a billion-and-a-half alone domestically. This weekend, despite four new releases, gives us a Top Ten that isn t even going to cross 0 million. Three of those releases weren t expected to set the box office on fire, but the numbers that the new Terminator film put up is likely to make Paramount a little nervous as they stare down their second big-budget sci-fi misfire in a row.King of the Crop: Terminator: Dark Fate is Tops, but the Bar is Low(Photo by Paramount Pictures)The Terminator series has, without question, been waning in popularity over the years. James Cameron and Linda Hamilton left after the second film. Arnold Schwarzenegger left after the third. The global sensation that was Terminator 2: Judgment Day remains one of the great action films of all-time. 12 years later, Arnold gave it another spin with Rise of the Machines, which opened to a healthy million and grossed over 0 million domestically. (T2 would amount to about 6 million in ticket sales today.) The reboot of Terminator: Salvation in 2009 with Christian Bale and Sam Worthington opened to .5 million and finished with 5 million. Then, in 2015, Terminator: Genisys opened to .1 million from Weds-to-Fri or million from Fri-to-Sun and then failed to reach million stateside. Now, 35 years after Cameron’s The Terminator premiered and four years since Cameron endorsed Genisys as the “real” Terminator 3, we now have Terminator: Dark Fate being sold to audiences as the “real” Terminator 3. And audiences are not buying. A million opening is well below the low-40s projections we’ve been hearing for weeks, and it comes out to only a ,097 per-theater-average. (T3 T4 were each over ,000.) Critically, the film is holding steady at 69% on the Tomatometer (the same number for the real “real” Terminator 3; the last positively-scored film in the series.) But nobody at Paramount can be thrilled with the dollar figure, given a 5 million budget, especially coming right after the failure of Ang Lee’s Gemini Man, which has grossed just 5 million worldwide to date on a 8 million budget.Consider that only four films have ever opened in November to a PTA under ,500 and grossed over 0 million, and all four were animated – The Polar Express (2.77 million), Bolt (4.05), The Princess and the Frog (4.04), and Rise of the Guardians (3.41). That is bad news for a film that is in the same boat as Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and needs over a half-billion dollars before we come even close to talking profit. Disney’s film only just crossed 0 million worldwide on Thursday. Genisys, the highest-grossing international Terminator to date, made 0 million and squeaked out a tiny profit. But Dark Fate may be living up to its name as it has grossed just million total overseas so far.Fresh Surprise: Focus Features Earns Another Solid Debut with HarrietRyan FujitaniSpeaking of per-theater averages, Focus Features is having a bit of a moment. Downton Abbey has grossed over million and has become their highest-grossing domestic title ever. This weekend, Kasi Lemmons’ Harriet opened to million and notches another top ten finish in Focus’ record books. While not a giant number, Harriet’s ,828 per-theater-average is the sixth best ever for Focus when they launch a film in over 2,000 theaters. It ranks behind The Strangers, Insidious: Chapter 3, Coraline, Burn After Reading, and London Has Fallen, and is now ahead of Atomic Blonde, The Forest, and The Boxtrolls. A pair of Jet Li films (Unleashed and Fearless) represent the low bar of Focus’ films opening to million or higher, as each grossed .53 and .63 million, respectively. The Forest is their only release to open over million and fail to gross at least million.Rotten Returns: Motherless Brooklyn and Arctic Dogs Flop Spectacularly(Photo by Entertainment Studios Motion Pictures)The two remaining new releases are downright Goldfinchian. Edward Norton’s Motherless Brooklyn, also released by Warner Bros., cost million and grossed just .6 million. That is just a ,682 per-theater-average in 1,342 venues. That is comparable to STX’s The Best of Enemies from April, which had a ,608 average in 1,705 theaters and finished with just .2 million. Norton said that he cashed in every favor in Hollywood to get this film made, so there may be a lot of Italian Jobs in his future. Then on the animated front, Missing Link can rest easy that it no longer has the weakest opening of the year. That now belongs to the -million budgeted Arctic Dogs from Entertainment Studios. Its .1 million start is the lowest for an animated film released in over 2,000 theaters since Disney’s Teacher’s Pet (.46 million) back in 2004. That start is also the lowest ever for one released in over 3,000 theaters, replacing 2015’s Strange Magic, which opened to .5 million and finished with just .4 million. Arctic Dogs is now destined to join a list of animated films in 2,000+ theaters to gross less than million that includes Ratchet Clank, Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return, Rock Dog, Doogal, The Wild Life, Early Man, and Teacher’s Pet.The Top 10 And Beyond: Joker and Maleficent Hang on to Second and Third(Photo by Niko Tavernise/© 2019 Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.)Joker fell back to second place this week and is now just shy of 0 million domestic. It has become the 59th film in history to cross the 0 million line and is approaching the list of the 50 highest-grossing films of all time. At 9 million, Joker is ahead of where DC’s Suicide Squad was on Day 31 (7.32 million) and beat its fifth weekend .90-to-.91 million. That should fill in at least another -30 million as Todd Phillips film is headed past 5 million. At 4 million worldwide, even without another international dollar, Joker is going to join this list of the Top 50 grossers of all-time.The aforementioned Maleficent: Mistress of Evil earned another .1 million this weekend for a total of million domestic. That may be the 15th best total for an October release after 17 days and the 14th best third weekend, but it is still well in the red. It has a chance to reach 0 million domestic but even with another 8 million worldwide (which it has now) it is still about 0 million away from talking profit. United Artists Releasing’s The Addams Family, however, is headed exactly there. With another .4 million, the movie has passed 0 million globally and it is all IHOP gravy from there.Neon continues to make the most out of Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite (Certified Fresh at 99%). They expanded the film into 461 theaters and it grossed .6 million. That puts it in the vicinity of The Favourite, which moved into 441 theaters in weekend four and grossed .605 million, as well as Birdman, which was in 460 theaters and made .31 million. Both films from Fox Searchlight went on to become Best Picture nominees and grossed .36 and .34 million, respectively. Parasite’s total stands at .5 million.(Photo by Fox Searchlight Pictures)Speaking of which, the Fox specialty division now under Disney has Jojo Rabbit. Taika Waititi’s film was expanded in 256 theaters this weekend and grossed .4 million. That is also in the vicinity of Birdman’s third weekend (.39 million in 231 theaters) but also a little behind Searchlight’s (500) Days of Summer (.77 million in 266 theaters) and A24’s Lady Bird (.51 million in 244 theaters.) Those three films grossed between -49 million with a pair bolstered by their Oscar campaign. Still, if they can keep up interest and get the film to around million, that will be a solid victory. Its total is currently .2 million. Finally there is The Lighthouse (Certified Fresh at 92%) which A24 expanded again into 978 theaters, but fell back from last week’s Top Ten gross of .02 million back to million. That’s a gross on par with 2017’s The Beguiled (.06 million in 941 theaters) just as it was last week suggesting a final total around that film’s .7 million is in the cards for Robert Eggers’ follow-up to The Witch. This Time Last Year: Bohemian Rhapsody Destroys the CompetitionThree new films led the box office but only one turned into a phenomenon. Bohemian Rhapsody began its run towards the Oscars and history with a million opening, more than the next three films combined. They included the Disney bust, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (.35 million), Tyler Perry’s Nobody’s Fool (.74 million) and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born ( million) which passed 5 million this weekend. David Gordon Green’s Halloween also passed 0 million in fifth place. The biggest per-theater-average of the week went to Joel Edgerton’s Boy Erased (,411 in 5 theaters). The Top Ten films grossed 9.38 million and averaged 57.2% on the Tomatometer, while this year’s Top Ten grossed an estimated .3 Million and averaged 51.5% with critics. On the Vine: Heeeere s Ewan! The Holiday Movie Season is undeniably frontloaded this year, with everyone trying to get their piece of the pie before Frozen II and The Rise of Skywalker dominate. The favorite going into next week is Mike Flanagan’s two-and-a-half-hour adaptation of Stephen King’s sequel to The Shining, Doctor Sleep, with Ewan McGregor. Roland Emmerich is back to blow things up with a real-life war story in Midway. For the romance fans out there, Paul Feig is teaming up Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding in Last Christmas and for families looking for an amuse-bouche before Anna Elsa, John Cena plays a babysitting fireman in Playing with Fire. Also in limited release is Shia LaBeouf’s acclaimed autobiographical story of his relationship with his troubled father in Honey Boy.The Full Top 10: November 1-3Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) 70% – million ( million total)Joker (2019) 68% – .9 million (9.6 million total)Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019) 39% – .18 million (.3 million total)Harriet (2019) 73% – million ( million total)The Addams Family (2019) 45% – .5 million (.3 million total)Zombieland: Double Tap (2019) 68% – .35 million (.3 million total)Countdown (2019) 26% – .85 million (.77 million total)Black and Blue (2019) 52% – .1 million (.44 million total)Motherless Brooklyn (2019) 64% – .65 million (.65 million total)Arctic Dogs (2019) 12% – .1 million (.1 million total)

New Moon makes it a triangle with the arrival of Jacob (Taylor Lautner), he of a rival werewolf pack. The real battle begins in Eclipse, come to a bed-smashing head in the two-part Breaking Dawn. See below for our guide on how to watch all Twilight movies in order.
140 Essential Animated Movies To Watch NowThe origins of the whiz-bang animated wonders we see today in the likes of Toy Story, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and How to Train Your Dragon date back more than a hundred years. Flip books and zoetropes revealed the mesmerizing power of animation to humans before movies were even invented in the late 19th century. And if you really wanted to journey back in time, look to prehistoric cave art where animals drawn with excessive pairs of legs created the illusion of motion when illuminated by fire – it might be considered the first animation. So it was inevitable, practically human nature, that animation grew in tandem with cinema from the beginning. And it was only inevitable in the Internet age that someone, somewhere would pile up all the best feature-length animated films from the 20th century and beyond, rank them, and call the guide something like the 140 Essential Animated Movies Ever to Watch Right Now! Which is what you ll find below. All forms of the medium are featured here, from cel (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, The Land Before Time) to 3-D (Toy Story, Shrek), rotoscoped (Tower, A Scanner Darkly) to stop-motion (Chicken Run, Fantastic Mr. Fox), and oil canvas (Loving Vincent) to mixed media (Waltz With Bashir). Animation is frequently associated with specific studios, and to that end we have represented Disney (Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty), Pixar (WALL-E, Finding Dory), DreamWorks (How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda), Studio Ghibli (Princess Mononoke, Kiki s Delivery Service), and more. How did we decide on the Essential 140? We looked at reviews, other best of lists, cultural impact, and applied some editorial discretion. They didn t have to just be good – in fact, some are not so Fresh at all! – but they had to play a part in the history of the medium. These are the movies that have been passed on for generations, no matter how much style and artistic tastes change year-to-year. They re the ones that parents and kids watch together, frequently becoming part of the family tradition. They re the movies that pushed animation forward, and that inspire people to pick up the pen, pencil, or stylus and try to make their own mark in history with their own colorful stories.Tomatometer scores were not a factor in ranking (besides the fact that it needed to have one), only feature films were considered, and movies with some live-action thrown in (The LEGO Movie, James and the Giant Peach) were fine, as long as the majority of their runtime was animated.Whatever tickles your toon, you ll find it s type here. Get drawn to the 140 essential animated movies ever!Check out the 140 Essential Animated TV Shows #140
(Click to enlarge.)After six intense rounds of voting, we finally have our winner in the HBO Original Series Showdown, and thanks to all of you who voted, Game of Thrones has officially taken the crown as the Greatest HBO Original Series! In the end, the final match-up between GoT and Westworld wasn t particularly close, with the former taking a whopping 74% of the vote and reaffirming the immense popularity of the fantasy series, even despite the final season s massive dip in both critical (58% on the Tomatometer) and audience reception (31% Audience Score). All things considered, Westworld made it much farther in the bracket than we here at RT expected, especially paired up against classic heavy hitters like Deadwood, Veep, and The Wire, but that s exactly why we run these brackets: it s fun to see how the final results upend our expectations.Once again, big thanks to everyone who participated and voted in the bracket! We always look forward to seeing the great debates and discussion that these showdowns inspire.

King of the Crop: Captain Marvel Vanquishes DoubtersDebbie DayWhen it comes to proving its worth among domestic audiences, Captain Marvel s numbers reveal the truth of this heroic box office tale; the Marvel movie s million Friday-to-Sunday take is the 17th best second weekend in history and the second best ever in March. The 6 million it amassed to date is the 19th best total for a film in its first 10 days. Does this mean 0 million is inevitable? Not quite, but the odds are very much in its favor given that 20 of the 24 films to gross over million in their second weekend reached the milestone. Only Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, Alice In Wonderland, It, and 2016’s The Jungle Book came up short.  Jordan Peele’s Us is likely to take the top spot next weekend, but anything above million will keep Marvel on track to become the seventh 0 million domestic grosser. It is already the 17th Marvel property to pass 0 million worldwide.Rotten Returns: Captive State Sets New Low For Focus(Photo by Focus Features)Just two weeks ago, Focus Features took Neil Jordan’s psycho-thriller, Greta, into over 2,400 theaters. The unfortunate result was the lowest opening weekend for a film released by the studio into a 2,000-plus screen launch. This week they released Rupert Wyatt’s million sci-fi thriller, Captive State into 2,548 theaters — only this time without screening its film for critics. Though it has scored just marginally lower (47%) than Greta (54%) on the Tomatometer, Captive State now owns Focus’ low-water mark for such a release with a .1 million start for just a ,240 per-theater average. That is the worst PTA for a wide release launch in the studio’s history and the eighth worst among all of their releases. The five worst PTA’s of 2018 in a 2,000-plus theater launch were: Life Itself (4), Gringo (,132), Action Point (,176), The Hurricane Heist (,259), and Early Man (,279). Replicas still owns that title in 2019 with a ,020 average.Top 10 and Beyond: Only Dragon a Success Among Animated Films(Photo by Universal Pictures)Leading the newbies this week was Paramount’s Wonder Park. The near 0 million production, which was started back in 2014, arrived without an official director’s credit (after the original one was fired due to complaints of inappropriate conduct against women). The studio was certainly hoping for more than a 30% Tomatometer score and a million start, putting it in league with film’s like Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga Hoole, which finished with just million and million, respectively. In other animated news, The Lego Movie 2 finally passed the 0 million line (the first film took nine days), but it is nevertheless also a bust for Warner Bros. with just 1 million worldwide; their biggest since 2017’s Justice League. How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World is anything but though for Universal, already into profit with over 6 million worldwide.CBS Films and Lionsgate’s release of weepie teen romance, Five Feet Apart (52% on the Tomatometer), made a very respectable .1 million. Not too shabby on just a million budget. Also making its way into profit for the studio is Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral, which, after 8 million in 17 days, is headed to become the third-highest-grossing film of his career. Back in 2016 Lionsgate and Pantelion opened No Manches Frida to .67 million. This weekend it opened No Manches Frida 2 to an estimated .89 million in just 472 theaters — or less than 19% of the theaters that Captive State played in.In other limited release news, the top PTA of the week went to Sony Classics’ The Mustang (95% Tomatometer score), which made ,000 on each of its four screens. Fox Searchlight’s The Aftermath (27% Tomatometer score) grossed ,500 for a ,500 average. That is just the 19th film in the studio’s history to register with less than 30% on the Tomatometer. The last was 2013’s Baggage Claim, with a 14% Tomatometer score, is one of only five films Searchlight released in over 2,000 theaters in its opening weekend. Neon’s documentary, Apollo 11 (100% Tomatometer score), expanded into 588 theaters and grossed another .22 million. It’s total stands at .54 million. This Time Last Year: Black Panther Gets Five-Peat(Photo by Marvel Studios)Black Panther remained on top of the charts for a fifth straight week in 2018. The Marvel film’s .6 million was just enough to knock back the debut of the rebooted Tomb Raider (.6 million). But one of the biggest box office successes of the year, I Can Only Imagine, opened in third place to .1 million. Love, Simon opened in fifth with .7 million. In milestone news, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle passed the 0 million mark and Peter Rabbit reached into 0 million territory. Armando Ianucci’s The Death of Stalin had the top per-theater-average (,797) in just 32 theaters. The Top 10 films grossed over 8.8 million and averaged 59.6% on the Tomatometer. This year’s top 10 grossed an estimated 8.2 million and averaged 59.5% on the Tomatometer. Currently sitting at 100% on the Tomatometer, can the new film maintain its perfect score over Get Out’s spectacular 98%? It is likely to surpass Get Out’s .4 million opening, but can it surpass its predecessor’s 6 million domestic total? Either way, Us is poised to become one of the most successful horror films of all time. Also on tap, Bleecker Street’s true-life terrorist drama, Hotel Mumbai, opens in limited release. But it also proved their faith in series creator Jon Favreau and the contributions of Star Wars Rebels creator Dave Filoni was rewarded. And as both reiterated throughout the presentation, they are both giant fans of Star Wars.“I was born in 1975, so I’m a product of this,” added star Pedro Pascal, who recalled meeting with Favreau and Filoni before he was cast. Describing a room filled with storyboards and illustrations of the proposed series, he said his immediate reaction was “What do you want me to do? Play that bug or that robot?” only to be overwhelmed when they said they wanted him to play the Mandalorian. Pascal mimed fainting to describe the sensation of being offered the lead role. But that was just one of the surprises unveiled during the presentation, complete with a Mandalorian sizzle reel exclusive for those inside the Celebration Stage in Chicago. Luckily, we were there and can offer you some of the things we learned about the show.1. Pascal Is the Mandalorian With No Name(Photo by Lucasfilm)Filoni and Favreau are fans of Star Wars, but they’re also found of the series antecedents in Western movies and samurai films. Maintaining a tradition from those genres, Pascal’s Mandalorian has no name. It is unclear if his identity will be revealed later, but Filoni, Favreau, and Pascal referred to him only as “The Mandalorian.” He’s a mysterious, lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy,” Pascal explained. “Some would say he has questionable moral character.”In one of the exclusive clips shown, the Mandalorian takes a meeting with Greef Carga (Carl Weathers), the leader of a bounty hunters guild in that section of space. During the meeting, the Mandalorian tries to take all of the bounties Carga has on offer, which the guild leader finds excessive. But it echoes back to the gunslingers from the Westerns Pascal said Favreau assigned him to watch as part of the preparation for the series.“He’s a badass,” Pascal added. “[Jon and Dave] have created an incredible, iconic character.”In an extended clip shown only at the Celebration Stage, fans heard the Mandalorian speak for the first time. In a detail which will thrill long-time fans, his cadence matches the one Boba Fett spoke with back in The Star Wars Holiday Special and the original versions of The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. Of course, that cadence is inspired from another iconic film persona. “He’s got a lot of Clint Eastwood in him,” Pascal said.2. Carl Weathers Plays a Bounty Hunter Guild Leader(Photo by Lucasfilm)For an added surprise, Favreau revealed Weathers’ involvement in the series and introduced him to the stage. After a spontaneous outpouring of love from the crowd — who started cheering for the Apollo Creed actor by that character’s name — Weather’s found himself overwhelmed.“Nothing comes close to this,” he said after the roar died down.Weather’s Greef Carga is “looking for someone to bring back a product for a client which is very valuable,” Weathers explained. “He finds the Mandalorian, and that guy gets done what needs to be done.”In the clip, Carga refers the Mandalorian to a “sensitive client” who demands face-to-face contact with the bounty hunter. Despite the tense situation, their interaction seemed friendly enough. Or at least as friendly as one can be when talking to a masked man with no name.3. Werner Herzog and Giancarlo Esposito Are Imperials(Photo by Lucasfilm)The client turns out to be the character played by Werner Herzog. The legendary director, who recently turned to acting in things like The Mandalorian, recently said he plays a “small part” as a villain, but in the clip, it turns out he represents a faction of the deposed Empire.“It was really compelling to me what happens after the celebration of the Empire falling,” Favreau explained before the clip. “The revolution was successful, but then what happens?”As it turns out, the answer is at least partially inspired from the Expanded Universe interpretation of the post-Empire era. Factions known as the Imperial Remnant continue to flex their might in sectors not as tied to the Rebellion or the emerging New Republic. In the clip, the Mandalorian finds Herzog’s character guarded by stormtroopers. The gleam may be off their white armor, but they still appear battle ready when another Imperial agent (played by Omid Abtahi) enters the room. Guns are drawn, but Herzog defused the situation. He also offers the Mandalorian a few details about his quarry; offering him a locator and the last four digits of the bounty’s gene marker. The preference is to bring the bounty in alive, but Herzog tells the Mandalorian he will accept proof of the mark’s death for a reduced fee. The other Imperial is not impressed by this change in their plan.In the subsequent sizzle reel, Herzog can be heard asking “are things better since the revolution?” Amid scenes of violence and fire (all narrated by Herzog stating his belief in the Empire),  Giancarlo Esposito’s character appears. While also unnamed, his uniform also identifies him as part of the Imperial Remnant. He orders a stormtrooper to ignite his flamethrower and flush out someone from a dwelling. A subsequent shot also reveals Esposito in a TIE fighter.4. The Show Will Feel Gritty(Photo by Lucasfilm) While Favreau and Filoni kept name-checking the campy Holiday Special as an inspiration — indeed, the Mandalorian s rifle is a direct lift from the Special s Boba Fett cartoon — Filoni mentioned the show will have a gritty feel to it. This came through in the sizzle reel, which included dusty village streets, old stations covered in snow, and plenty of run-down technology abandoned and weathering. The overall look evokes the original Star Wars — right down to one shot which may or may not be the original film’s Mos Eisley cantina — which was very much the thing Favreau said he wanted to accomplish with The Mandalorian. But he added that Filoni is making him more of a fan of the Prequel aesthetic as well.5. Gina Carrano Plays Ex-Rebel Shock Trooper Cara Doone(Photo by Lucasfilm)The sizzle reel also offered the first clear look at Gina Carano’s Cara Dune.“She’s an ex-Rebel shock trooper,” Carano explained. “[She’s] a bit of a loner — which is a stretch — and [she] is having a bit of trouble reintegrating into society.”In the preview, the Mandalorian spots her in a cantina, much to his displeasure. The two end up fighting in an alley and eventually draw blasters on one another. It is unclear if this is the beginning of a partnership or a rivalry, but her Mando-inspired shoulder guards suggest there may be some sort of bond.Well, provided the Mandalorian really is what he claims. In his scene, Herzog s character infers the person under than armor may not be a true Mandalorian.6. The Mandalorian’s Ship, the Razorcrest, Is a Practical Effect(Photo by Lucasfilm)Glimpsed briefly in the clip shown early in the presentation, Favreau offered a few details about the Mandalorian’s ship, the Razorcrest. Details he said “most people won’t even know, but we knew you’d appreciate it.”The twin-engine ship will be the title character’s key vehicle, but making it was a labor of love between Favreau, Filoni, and the group at ILM when the executive producer made one request: “Can we shoot a model?”Stymied in using old-school techniques on movies like Iron Man, he was thrilled when Lucasfilm let it happen and the ILM crew became obsessed with creating the ship as a miniature. Parts were kit-bashed from other model kits, just as they did back in the 1970s, while other elements used cutting edge techniques and 3D printing. Members of the ILM team manufactures long-retired motion-control camera rigs in their garages while higher-ups like John Knoll sat in on planning meetings to bring the Razor Crest to life. That dedication to detail was one of the key things Favreau wanted to pull off with The Mandalorian. On screen, it means little throwbacks to the film series. In the extended clip, a food vendor can be seen roasting Kowakian monkey-lizard — Salacious Crumb’s species — and in the sizzle reel, a droid who may or may not be legendary bounty hunter IG-88 gets in on the action as he swivels his torso to take on attackers in a 360-degree arc of fire. Additionally, plenty of familiar aliens are realized with creature effect make-up. There s even a gonk droid hanging out with the Imperials.“We used a lot of tech from Iron Man, The Jungle Book, and even The Lion King,” Favreau said. “But Star Wars, at its core, has to feel handmade. So there are animatronics and puppetry.”“All that passion trickled down,” Carano added. “Jon would well up with tears explaining how much a scene meant [to him], and you felt like you were part of something special. Everybody in every department would be there for 17-hour days. And you wanted to be there because it was worth it. It had this magic. I always want to work with is people passionate about what they’re doing.”That sense of passion was clear from the material Favreau brought to stage. With the film series taking a pause after Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, The Mandalorian will be the key live-action Star Wars product and it looks like it will be a worthy torchbearer. The Mandalorian will launch on Disney+ on November 12, 2019.

开元娱乐棋牌5558cc It shouldn’t be much of a surprise that a film from the Harry Potter universe is the most anticipated of November, but it wasn’t quite the runaway favorite one might have assumed it would be. See, there’s also a sequel in the Rocky universe coming this month, as well as a rock biopic of a legendary band and its iconic frontman. This month’s poll also featured a tie between a couple of animated films and a J.J. Abrams-produced horror thriller, so there’s a little something for everyone. Read on to see the Most Anticipated Movies of November!1. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (2018) 36%(Photo by Warner Bros. That said, Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterston return for this follow-up, joined by Jude Law as a young Dumbledore and Johnny Depp as the nefarious Gellert Grindelwald. This one rated high on all of our social platforms and on our site, which wasn t too much of a surprise.Watch Trailer2. Creed II (2018) 83%(Photo by MGM, Warner Bros. Jordan s Adonis Creed, the son of the late Apollo Creed. In particular, look for an impressive performance from Rami Malek as Mercury and an exhilarating climactic recreation of Queen s appearance at Live Aid in 1985. It didn t rank as high as Creed II on our social platforms, but its popularity on our site placed it right behind it at #3.Watch Trailer4. This time, it s a World War II horror-thriller about a group of soldiers who come across a secret Nazi lab full of monsters. Overlord (and the rest of the films in November, really) had no chance against the top 3 choices, but it did well enough on Instagram and Facebook to make it to our fourth slot, and it s already tracking impressively high on the Tomatometer.Watch Trailer5a.
