Talbert’s lavish and energetic new musical, Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, might just be a modern Christmas classic. The story of a toymaker (Forest Whitaker) and his granddaughter’s (Madalen Mills) quest to recover his most incredible creation yet, after it’s stolen by a rival (Keegan Michael-Key), is full of elaborate musical numbers, heartwarming holiday moments, and songs from the likes of John Legend; critics are eating it up and saying it could go down as a new holiday staple. Ahead of the movie’s release, Rotten Tomatoes Editor Jacqueline Coley spoke to Talbert and stars Whitaker, Key, Mills, Phylicia Rashad, and Anika Noni Rose to ask why music and Christmas are such a perfect pairing, how the cast and crew produced the film’s ambitious musical set pieces, and to discover their personal favorites when it comes to holiday movies.Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey is available on Netflix from Friday, November 13, 2020. Few industries enjoy taking really, really long extended holiday vacations quite like Hollywood, and when we get to this time of the year, there s rarely much in the realm of movie development news to discuss. Last week, we covered the year s biggest Fresh news stories, and this week, we re looking at the ones we deemed most Rotten instead.JANUARY: KEVIN HART PASSES GO, WILL COLLECT (AT LEAST) 0, IN MONOPOLY(Photo by Warner Bros.)Kevin Hart s Tomatometer has been getting better in the last few years, starting with his partnership with Dwayne Johnson in Central Intelligence (which carried into their Jumanji movies), and including his voice role in Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie (Certified Fresh at 88%). Before 2016, however, his track record mostly carried a broad series of Rotten splotches, with only a few Fresh tomatoes, and most of those were for his comedy concert films. Hart had several new movies announced in 2019 (including Black Friday, Extreme Job, and remakes of Scrooged and Uptown Saturday Night), but it all started in January with the long-in-development board game adaptation of Monopoly. The idea of a movie based on the classic Monopoly board game has been kicking around for over a decade, including a time when Ridley Scott was attached, but the Monopoly movie we ll actually get sounds a drastic switch. Kevin Hart will star in Monopoly for Lionsgate and Hasbro, with his Ride Along director Tim Story also on board.FEBRUARY: BRAD PITT S ZOMBIE FIGHT ENDS WITH SCRAPPING OF WORLD WAR Z SEQUEL (Photo by Jaap Buitendijk/Paramount Pictures)If you were a big fan of Brad Pitt and director Marc Foster s zombie movie World War Z, February brought some bad news. After years of near-starts and delays, Paramount Pictures finally, apparently definitively, pulled the plug on a World War Z sequel. Pre-production was reportedly already well underway for a six month shoot in Atlanta and other nations around the world, but that also meant the budget exploded to over 0 million, and that was the breaking point for Paramount. Technically, it sounds like World War Z might come back, even with a sequel, in the future, but if it does, it would be with a much lower budget, without Foster directing, and possibly without Brad Pitt as well. [Editor s note: an earlier version listed David Fincher as editor of World War Z. This has been corrected and we regret the error.]MARCH: DISNEY/FOX MERGER LEADS TO SHELVING OF PROMISING X-MEN PROJECTS (Photo by 20th Century Fox Film Corp.)In March, Disney finalized its .3 billion deal to acquire the entertainment assets of the Fox film and TV studios. The deal was widely applauded by Marvel Comics fans who are eager to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters and properties now available for Marvel Studios in their future movies (though probably not until after 2022). However, that also meant that some/many of the projects that Fox had been developing would be shelved, including X-Force, X-23, Kitty Pryde, and Madrox the Multiple Man. We ll never know what those movies might have been like, and it s definitely possible some would have been Rotten (given Fox s record on recent X-Men movies). They re good examples, however, of the wide scope of Marvel movies we would have gotten if Marvel and Sony also had Fox developing movies every year. How long will it take now for Marvel Studios to go deep enough into their catalog to greenlight movies like Kitty Pryde and Madrox the Multiple Man?APRIL: THE BAD MOMS MOMS TO GET THEIR OWN MOVIE(Photo by STX Entertainment)After Bad Moms earned 3 million globally in the summer of 2016, it was followed by the sequel A Bad Moms Christmas in 2017. That second film introduced grandmother characters played by Christine Baranski, Cheryl Hines, and Susan Sarandon, and in April, we learned that they re going to get their own movie called Bad Moms Moms. It s not yet known if Kristen Bell, Kathryn Hahn, and Mila Kunis will reprise their roles as well, or if the third movie might introduce the next set of older great-grandmas (who could then get their own movie called Bad Moms Moms Moms). Both Bad Moms and A Bad Moms Christmas earned Rotten Tomatometer scores at 58% and 30%, respectively.MAY: SONIC THE HEDGEHOG TRAILER BACKLASH SPARKS REDESIGN (Photo by @ Paramount Pictures)Some of the year s most Rotten stories represent missteps that were eventually corrected, but we are looking at these stories as they were at the time. In this case, Paramount appeared to get the message within the same week, but still, at the time, the reaction was very negative. After all, Paramount Pictures should ve seen this one coming. In April, the first Sonic the Hedgehog trailer debuted, and the collective fan backlash against Sonic s design was even louder this time. (The eyes are too small, the nose is at the wrong angle, and the teeth. Where to even begin on the teeth?) The Sonic the Hedgehog missteps were only accentuated by the timing of the trailer in the same week as the first Pokemon Detective Pikachu reviews, as that film has not one but dozens of video game characters that look pretty much exactly like they do in the games. The good news, however, is that Sonic the Hedgehog director Jeff Fowler quickly responded on Twitter, The message is loud and clear you aren t happy with the design you want changes. Those changes came later in the year as we got a new Sonic the Hedgehog trailer in which he did indeed look a lot more like he does in the games. Sonic the Hedgehog is now scheduled as a Valentine s release on 2/14/2020.JUNE: SECURITY CAMERAS TO BE HAUNTED AGAIN IN PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 7 (Photo by Paramount Pictures)It s now been over four years since 2015 s Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension earned the franchise s lowest box office to date, domestically earning one fifth less than the first film. The Paranormal Activity movies were also relatively affordable to produce, so it was probably inevitable that Paramount Pictures would want to start making them again. Producer Jason Blum (of Blumhouse Productions) is now developing Paranormal Activity 7 for Paramount, although the premise isn t yet known (though it seems obvious that it will probably be another found footage horror film). The Tomatometer scores for the last three films (24%, 39%, and 15%, respectively) don t offer much hope for the next installment, unfortunately. Since this news broke in June, Paramount has scheduled Paranormal Activity 7 for release on March 19, 2021, up against the second Tomb Raider movie starring Alicia Vikander, and the week before The Boss Baby 2.JULY: LOOK WHO S REMAKING LOOK WHO S TALKING(Photo by TriStar Pictures courtesy Everett Collection)One of the oddest examples of movies that ended up getting two sequels to justify it becoming a trilogy might arguably be 1989 s Look Who s Talking (Rotten at 59%), which was followed in 1990 by Look Who s Talking Too (Rotten at 14%), and in 1993 by Look Who s Talking Now (Rotten at 0%). John Travolta and Kirstie Alley starred in those movies about talking babies, and in the third movie, talking dogs. Despite those critical drubbings, Sony Pictures is now developing a Look Who s Talking reboot to be written and directed by Jeremy Garelick, whose 2015 comedy The Wedding Ringer earned a Rotten score at 27%. It s not yet known if Bruce Willis or any of the other voice actors might return for the reboot (but they probably won t).

(Photo by New Line/courtesy Everett Collection)All Guillermo del Toro Movies Ranked by TomatometerOne easy way to get that Best Picture win at the Oscars? Spend your burgeoning directing career on strange and grotesque genre pictures, then hook up with a major studio to work on Lord of the Rings, with hundreds of millions of dollars in budget. Obviously! It worked for Peter Jackson, whose Dead Alive and Meet the Feebles movies did little to suggest he would one day get the gold trophy for The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. And it worked for Guillermo del Toro, whose success with cult cinema fanatics led him to toil for years on The Hobbit movies. Del Toro didn t win anything for those movies hell, he didn t even end up directing them. But he did get the top prize for The Shape of Water, an unlikely win for the unlikeliest of love stories, which currently puts a lovely bow on a career characterized by dark fantasy, big sci-fi, and creature features, of visions where the lines between dream and nightmare blur.Del Toro got his start in his native Mexico in the early 90s with the mythological Cronos, featuring Ron Perlman in the first of several collaborations. As with many international filmmakers with a hit on their hands, del Toro was wooed to Hollywood to do exactly his thing except, of course, with tons of studio interference, notes, and meddling. The result was the compromised Mimic, whose lackluster reception was enough to get del Toro to go back abroad for his next film. The Spain set-and-shot The Devil s Backbone was another cult hit, again enough for him to get tempted back to the States. What followed was Blade II and Hellboy, which gave the pre-Marvel Cinematic Universe era of comic book movies an unpredictable shot in the arm. The latter film reunited him with Perlman, along with physical artist Doug Jones, who he first worked with on Mimic and would be crucial on his journey towards The Shape of Water.2005 s Pan s Labyrinth was a cross-cultural phenomenon, a grim fantasy and political commentary that s still heavily watched today. Then 2008 s Hellboy II: The Golden Army had the unfortunate luck of being released a week before The Dark Knight. It took del Toro five years to return with the mech brawler Pacific Rim, which was followed by the Gothic ghost love story Crimson Peak. And then we come to The Shape of Water, his tender ode to Creature from the Black Lagoon.Del Toro is currently prepping noir-thriller Nightmare Alley for a December 2021 release. Now, we re ranking all Guillermo del Toro movies by Tomatometer!
(Photo by Zade Rosenthal/Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures)All Jeremy Renner Movies RankedJeremy Renner got his worst movie out of the way early with National Lampoon s Senior Trip, his feature debut which notched an impressive 0% in 1995. Renner essentially vanished from the big screen for years, notably returning in 2002 as the title Jeffrey in the Dahmer biopic. Obviously, this was going to be one dynamic, unpredictable movie career. He s since done well in Certified Fresh efforts like Arrival, The Town, and The Hurt Locker which got him a Best Actor Oscar nom. Renner was also for a time the guy you apparently hired when you re trying to figure out how to extend the life of your franchise. Think Bourne Legacy, which he starred in before Matt Damon decided to return to the spy series. Or how about Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, where he was obviously being groomed to take over for Ethan Hunt, until Tom Cruise and Christopher McQuarrie decided to throw the series into overdrive with Rogue Nation and Fallout.Even his Hawkeye in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has had a strange trajectory, like an arrow curving around in the wind. It started with an odd cameo in Thor, being brainwashed in the first Avengers, and becoming quip-master general in Age of Ultron. And in case you thought he was under-appreciated, his absence from Infinity War led to half the life in the universe whipped to dust. Of course, everything got all wrapped up in Endgame, so now we re ranking the best Jeremy Renner movies (and the worst) by Tomatometer!
bob欢迎您 Disney’s live-action remakes have made collective billions at the box office. Although it’s early, the latest entry, Tim Burton’s dark take on Dumbo, could be the first failure among the recent films. Meanwhile, Harmony Korine s latest film fails to make a Spring Breakers-level splash, and Us and Captain Marvel continue to impress.King of the Crop: Dumbo Leads But Is Still Very Far Behind(Photo by Disney)While Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book and Bill Condon’s Beauty and the Beast made a collective billion-plus worldwide, it was Burton’s Alice In Wonderland that really began the live-action remake trend back in 2010. That film remains Burton’s biggest success, a billion-dollar spring hit that was also the second-biggest opening in Disney’s history at the time. (It is now the 17th.) Though Dumbo was not expected to challenge that 6.1 million start, it was also expected to do a lot better than million this weekend. With a 0 million production budget, Dumbo is clearly counting on the international dollar to save it. Even with optimistic projections domestically, no live-action film opening between -49 million stateside has ever reached 0 million. (Disney’s Wild Hogs came closest with 8 million.)Don’t blame critics on this one, as Dumbo’s 50% score on the Tomatometer is not much lower than Alice in Wonderland’s 51%. But that film was also able to market a very bankable (at the time) Johnny Depp, putting him front and center on every poster. Meanwhile, the trailers for Dumbo almost went out of their way to reveal more of the circus than the film’s high-flying star. We’ll update its progress next week.Rotten Returns: The Beach Bum(Photo by NEON / VICE)Neon had a great little story this year with the documentary Apollo 11. With .65 million in the bank, it is the company’s third-highest-grossing title after I, Tonya ( million) and the documentary Three Identical Strangers (.3 million). Harmony Korine s The Beach Bum (51% on the Tomatometer) is likely to become the fourth-highest-grossing film in its catalog, but the 1,005-theater launch only produced .8 million this weekend. That’s the fourth-worst per-theater average for Neon ahead of just Borg vs. McEnroe, Revenge, and the million Sundance pickup Assassination Nation, which had the studio’s widest launch (1,403 theaters) and opened to just .05 million for a per-theater average of 3. In March 2013, A24 released Korine’s last film, Spring Breakers, into 1,104 theaters in its second weekend, where it grossed .85 million on its way to .1 million total. The Top Ten And Beyond: Captain Marvel and Us Continue to Impress(Photo by @ Universal)Last October, Blumhouse released David Gordon Green’s Halloween, which grossed 6 million in its first ten days. Last week, the company released Jordan Peele’s Us, which has now grossed 8 million in its first ten days. Halloween finished its run with just 9.3 million even as it grossed .4 million in its second weekend. However, Us second weekend made .6 million — a smaller drop (52.7 percent) than Michael Myers’ (58.8 percent). Of the 21 films to have grossed between 3-133 million in their first ten days, only six have failed to reach 0 million. Halloween was one of them. Us is forging a path to another incredible milestone, and it has already grossed 4 million worldwide.Captain Marvel maintained its impressive pace with another million this weekend, the 27th-best fourth weekend ever for a wide release. With more than 3 million, it is the 21st best-performing film of all time after 24 days and well on its way to 0 million. Every film to have grossed 0 million in 24 days has reached 0 million, and Captain Marvel’s fourth weekend was higher than six of them (The Dark Knight Rises, Captain America: Civil War, Iron Man 3, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen.) In other milestone news, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World passed 0 million worldwide this weekend.PureFlix’s abortion film Unplanned made the top five with .1 million, the second-largest opening in the Christian-based company’s history after God’s Not Dead 2. Five Feet Apart continues to enjoy a rather healthy stay in the top five, dropping just another 26.9 percent to .2 million for a running total of nearly million — not bad for a million production. Tyler Perry’s A Madea Family Funeral passed million and may just have enough in the tank to surpass Boo! A Madea Halloween to become the second-highest-grossing film of his directorial career. Finally, Bleecker Street expanded its harrowing true-life terrorist drama Hotel Mumbai to 924 theaters, and it grossed .1 millon. Where does that rank among the company’s wide launches in more than 650 theaters?A solid fifth, following Logan Lucky (.6 million, 3,031 theaters), Eye in the Sky (.9 million, 1,029 theaters), Megan Leavey (.8 million, 1,956 theaters) and Unsane (.7 million, 2,023 theaters). Hotel Mumbai (.1 million, 924 theaters) finishes ahead of The Lost City of Z (.8 million, 866 theaters), Beirut (.7 million, 755 theaters), Danny Collins (.4 million, 739 theaters), Pawn Sacrifice ( million, 781 theaters), and Trumbo (1,068, 660 theaters). This Time Last Year: Audiences Were Ready For Player One(Photo by Warner Bros)Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One had the second-highest opening of 2018 to date with .7 million. Tyler Perry’s Acrimony placed second with .1 million. Black Panther passed 0 million, and Isle of Dogs for the second straight week had the top per-theater-average (,839), grossing .9 million in just 165 theaters. The top ten films grossed 5.25 million and averaged 55.2% on the Tomatometer. This year’s top ten grossed an estimated 8.30 million and averaged 58.7% with critics. On the Vine: Shazam! To Lead, But Pet Semetary Could Surprise(Photo by Warner Bros. Pictures)The latest offering from the DC side of the aisle opens with some glorious reviews so far. Shazam has 93% to date on the Tomatometer just three weeks before Avengers: Endgame opens. That’s certainly enough to take the top spot at the box office — and audiences can take it from there. Also blessed with strong early reviews is the new adaptation of Stephen King’s Pet Sematary. It boasts a 91% thanks to reviews from closing night of SXSW, and with a solid opening weekend could end up becoming the third-highest-grossing King adaptation to date. Finally, STX releases the educational drama The Best of Enemies with Taraji P. Henson and Sam Rockwell, but in fewer than 2,000 screens. The Full Top 10: March 29-31Dumbo (2019) 46% – million ( million total)Us (2019) 93% – .60 million (8.22 million total)Captain Marvel (2019) 79% – .50 million (3.80 million total)Five Feet Apart (2019) 53% – .25 million (.87 million total)Unplanned (2019) 42% – .11 million (.11 million total)Wonder Park (2019) 34% – .94 million (.88 million total)How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (2019) 90% – .23 million (2.96 million total)Hotel Mumbai (2018) 76% – .16 million (.27 million total)Tyler Perry's A Madea Family Funeral (2019) 11% – .70 million (.03 million total)The Beach Bum (2019) 57% – .80 million (.80 million total)

bly worth tuning in. Gunn will be answering fan questions about the reboot, and the panel description states that the members of Task Force X (i.e. The Suicide Squad) will join for a fast-paced, no-holds-barred Squad Showdown that tests every team member’s Squad knowledge — and survival skills. What that means is anyone s guess, and while no names are listed in the description itself, we know that Margot Robbie, Idris Elba, Alice Braga, John Cena, Pete Davidson, and Nathan Fillion are scheduled to show up, among others (and they re in the trailer). The Snyder Cut of Justice League(Photo by DC Entertainment)When: 2:30 pm (PT)Length: 25 minutesThe fans who clamored for the mythical Snyder Cut of Justice League are finally getting their wish, as the purest version of director Zack Snyder s film is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max in 2021. With that in mind, Snyder will answer fan questions and welcome a few surprise guests likely at least Gal Gadot and Ezra Miller, both of whom have panels before this one.The Flash (TV)(Photo by DC Entertainment)When: 2:54 pm (PT)Length: 16 minutesOne of only two TV-specific panels that were moved to the Hall of Heroes presentation after FanDome was split into two days, The Flash panel will feature executive producer Eric Wallace and stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Danielle Panabaker, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Nicolet, Kayla Compton and Brandon McKnight as they reminisce over Season 6 and look ahead to Season 7. In addition, they ll also preview a sneak peek at the black-and-white noir-themed episode Kiss Kiss Breach Breach, which was supposed to have run as part of Season 6 before the pandemic hit. It should be noted that this panel has been dramatically shortened to 16 minutes to fit into the Hall of Heroes schedule, so we may not get everything described above on August 22, but it looks like the full 40-minute presentation will be broadcast on September 12.Black Adam(Photo by DC Enteratinment)When: 3:10 pm (PT)Length: 15 minutesWe re finally getting the Black Adam movie in 2021 or we expect to get it in time for Christmas, anyway and star Dwayne Johnson will be doing a Q A session to give fans a taste of what his first comic book superhero movie will look like. The description for the panel also mentions a few surprises, so we may get some info on how the film may tie in to Shazam! (more on that movie below).Titans (TV)(Photo by Warner Bros.)When: 3:50 pm (PT)Length: 15 minutesThis is the second television series, along with The Flash, that was deemed worthy to move from its original placement in the WatchVerse module to the prime Hall of Heroes lineup, so that already hints that the panel will deliver something special for the fans. However, also like The Flash, the length of the panel has been cut down from its original 30-minute slot in order to fit here, but when it resurfaces on FanDome s September 12 broadcast, we ll get the whole shebang. With all of that said, the panel is set to include stars Brenton Thwaites, Anna Diop, Teagan Croft, Ryan Potter, Conor Leslie, Curran Walters, Joshua Orpin, Damaris Lewis, with Alan Ritchson and Minka Kelly as they talk about the upcoming third season and possibly unveil a premiere date.Aquaman(Photo by Warner Bros.)When: 4:05 pm (PT)Length: 10 minutesSure, Aquaman has been out for a couple of years now, so a retrospective look at the film may not be the most earth-shattering thing on your list. That said, director James Wan and co-star Patrick Wilson will be on hand for a brief look back at the world of Atlantis with some behind-the-scenes material, and that could potentially lead into some new info or some sort of a teaser for either Aquaman 2 (due out in 2022) or the horror-themed spinoff The Trench (reportedly due out sometime before Aquaman 2), both of which are in active development right now.SHAZAM!(Photo by DC Entertainment)When: 4:40 pm (PT)Length: 10 minutesLike Aquaman, Shazam! has already come and gone from theaters, but unlike the panel for that film, the description for this one specifically teases that star Zachary Levi and co-stars Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Granger, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, and Mark Strong will discuss what the next movie might be about, along with surprise guests. Again, this could all point to the eventual Black Adam/Shazam! crossover everyone is expecting. The Batman(Photo by @mattreevesLA)When: 5:30 pm (PT)Length: 30 minutesThe primetime evening slot goes to Matt Reeves The Batman, possibly the most anticipated film of the event, if only because we ve gotten a fair amount of detail about Wonder Woman 1984 but still don t know a whole lot about the latest iteration of the Caped Crusader. Reeves will be joined by FanDome host Aisha Tyler to talk about the upcoming film, and while the description mentions a surprise (or two), we know that Robert Pattinson is supposed to show up at some point, so there could be some big reveals in store.DC FanDome s Hall of Heroes presentations begin at 10:00 am (PT) on Saturday, August 22.
