What was it that interested you about the film and the script?Neve Campbell: Well, I think it s a very important topic. The subject of the opioid crisis is very important at the moment. I think over half a million people have lost their lives to the opioid crisis and it s tens of thousands of people a year, still. And I think so few people really realize how easily people can succumb to these medications and how dangerous they can be if not taken appropriately. So, for me that was really important.I hadn t seen Joey Klein s work before, and when it was brought to me, I watched his movie The Other Half. I don t know if you ve seen it, but it s stunning. The performances are amazing and the time that he allows actors to go to where they need to go to and the vulnerability that he gets out of actors is a beautiful thing. Joey himself is an actor, and it s always nice to work with directors who are also actors, because it s a different language, and it s sort of nice to be able to relate in that way when you re being guided.Rotten Tomatoes: Was there something that you learned about the opioid crisis or how people get access to these drugs while making this film that surprised you?Campbell: I watched a bunch of documentaries once I got the film, when I decided to do i

Watch: David Yates on the final battle of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 above.In 2019, Rotten Tomatoes turns 21, and to mark the occasion we’re celebrating the 21 Most Memorable Moments from the movies over the last 21 years. In this special video series, we speak to the actors and filmmakers who made those moments happen, revealing behind-the-scenes details of how they came to be and diving deep into why they’ve stuck with us for so long. Once we’ve announced all 21, it will be up to you, the fans, to vote for which is the most memorable moment of all. In this episode of our ‘21 Most Memorable Moments’ series, director David Yates breaks down the Harry Potter franchise s defining, climactic battle between good and evil.VOTE FOR THIS MOMENT IN OUR 21 MOST MEMORABLE MOVIE MOMENTS POLLThe Movie: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011) 96%Movies rarely come with the kinds of lofty expectations that were foisted upon the Harry Potter franchise, but movies are also rarely adapted from existing properties that are widely beloved, pop culture-defining global sensations. Thankfully, Warner Bros. found the right people to place both in front of and behind the camera to bring J.K. Rowling s Wizarding World to cinematic life, and the result was one of the most critically and commercially successful film franchises ever to flicker across the big screen.David Yates has served as the series go-to director beginning with the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; he s since helmed every movie in the franchise, including the two recent Fantastic Beasts spinoff installments. His biggest challenge lay in bringing the original series to a close in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and Part 2, the latter of which was to feature the climactic battle between Daniel Radcliffe s Harry Potter and Ralph Fiennes Lord Voldemort. But Yates had a specific vision in mind for the final book in the series.(Photo by Jaap Buitendijk/Warner Bros.)“I read the book and it felt, to me, that you could create two interesting films.” It was Lionel Wigram, who s one of our lovely producers, who felt maybe this movie could fall into two parts, because it was quite an extensive book. I read the book and it felt, to me, that you could create two interesting films. One was very much the kind of blockbuster, entertaining conclusion to the whole series, which had lots of bells and whistles and lots of battles and a great deal of scale, and then the first one  when Harry, Ron, and Hermione are out in the real world for the very first time, away from school, having to learn some really hard life lessons that, to me, felt like it could operate almost as an independent movie on its own terms. Very small-scale, very delicate. A much more intimate movie, if you will.I used to joke with Steve Kloves, who adapted Hallows Parts 1 and 2, that we were probably making the most expensive European art house movie ever with Hallows Part 1, because it didn t feel like a big movie, with all the bells and whistles. It felt much more intimate and much more delicate than that. And then, of course, with Part 2, we were able to finally round out the series, and that felt much more appropriate that we sort of went out with a bang. You stick with what you feel is right and what s true, fundamentally. And I think we did it. There was this feeling that, there had been seven movies, and you had to kind of come out in a way that fulfilled everyone s expectations. Especially your own, in terms of turning this epic story that Jo had created. So I think that was probably the biggest challenge, and knowing that expectations were sky high, and that people wanted to have a properly satisfying emotional resolution to this series of stories. Knowing that you have those expectations on your shoulders, you follow your instincts, and you stick with what you feel is right and what s true, fundamentally. And I think we did it. Just sitting with an audience in all the test screenings as we were finishing the film, you could feel it in the room that people who had stuck with you on that journey across all those movies felt moved and elated by the end. It was a very satisfying feeling. The Moment: Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort DuelBeginning with the first film in 2001, each of the Harry Potter movies came somewhere between four or five years after their source novels were published. In other words, when Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 arrived in 2011, book readers already knew what was coming: an epic showdown between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. As Yates explains, he made a conscious decision to deviate from the book.(Photo by Warner Bros.)“I always felt it would be wonderful to give this confrontation almost the feel of a Western.” This relationship has been ongoing throughout this series of stories, but it s only really in this final movie that we get to spend some substantial time with them finally facing each other. In the book, that confrontation takes place in the Great Hall, and I always felt that it was important, in a way, having waited seven movies for this confrontation to finally take place, I always felt it would be wonderful to give this confrontation almost the feel of a Western. So it s very iconically defined by these two figures in this vast courtyard, facing off with each other. Not with necessarily a big audience, as took place in the book, but something that felt much more singular, and the architecture and the landscape of the school was very much like a Western.Harry sort of carries the spirit of Voldemort, in part, and they have this unity, and I had this idea that Harry and Voldemort are at the top of a school tower, and as they confronted each other Dan would grab Ralph, and actually pull him off this tower, and they would apparate around the school together, and as they apparated around the school together, we d explore this weird visual synthesis that exists between the two of them, and they d eventually tumble down into the courtyard. The sequence became about a boy facing down this demon that had haunted him right throughout his childhood. So, I always wanted to get it out of the Great Hall, away from an audience, so the sequence became much more about a boy facing down this nemesis, this demon that had haunted him right throughout his childhood. This is the figure that had killed his parents. And so it became a much more iconic, singular battle between these two figures. I like that singularity and I like that simplicity, because you could really focus right into Harry s eyes and Voldemort s realization, in the moment when he loses the Elder Wand, that he s beaten. So for me, I like taking it into this down and dirty place, where it was literally a scramble in the mud to finally decide who was gonna win that battle that had been going on for such a long time. And that leanness and earthiness was always something that I felt was right for that final confrontation. The Impact: Fantastic Success and How to Find It(Photo by Warner Bros.)J.K. Rowling s Harry Potter novels were a worldwide phenomenon unto themselves, but the film series launched that phenomenon even further into the stratosphere. The so-called Wizarding World now includes a spinoff film series, theme park attractions, video games, and even a West End stage production that follows up on Harry Potter s story 19 years after the events of Deathly Hallows. The series early and frequent success spawned a mad rush to find the next Young Adult-aimed sensation, and others like The Hunger Games, Twilight, Divergent, and The Maze Runner as well as a slew of unsuccessful would-be franchise-starters followed in its footsteps. The Harry Potter series is also one of just a handful that can boast Certified Fresh installments from beginning to end, signaling consistent critical acclaim, and it ranks as the third highest-grossing of all time, behind only the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Star Wars saga. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the culmination of seven movies over the course of a decade, and to put it in context, it s not only the best-reviewed film of the series at a Certified Fresh 96% on the Tomatometer, but it s also the highest-grossing of the bunch, earning a massive .3 billion at the global box office. That was enough to make it one of the top 10 highest-grossing films of all time until the recent release of Avengers: Endgame knocked it down to number 11. Still, that s no small feat.Of course, for those who can t get enough of the Potterverse, there s still the Fantastic Beasts films, the most recent of which opened just last November. It s unlikely that series will be able to replicate Harry Potter s extraordinary accomplishments, but as David Yates  Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 so clearly demonstrated, it takes time and a whole lot of careful craftsmanship to build to a fantastic, emotionally gratifying finale. Given another decade s worth of thoughtful storytelling, Fantastic Beasts may yet earn its own Harry vs. Voldemort moment.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was released on July 15, 2011. The Way Back (2020) 84% Underdog sports stories have been a reliable staple of the movie industry for a long time, so much so that they ve been molded and refined to fit into a fairly predictable formula. With that in mind, it usually takes something extra to make one stand out, and critics say this week s The Way Back has that in an outstanding performance from Ben Affleck. Affleck stars as Jack Cunningham, a construction worker who was once an elite high school basketball player but now spends his days and nights binge-drinking. When he gets an unexpected call from his alma mater to coach their hoops team, he reluctantly takes them up on the offer and begins a slow healing process as he attempts to shepherd his kids to a few meaningful wins. Critics say what makes The Way Back effective is that it s not merely an inspirational sports story, nor is it merely one about addiction, but a carefully crafted hybrid that doesn t provide easy answers or overly sentimental triumphant moments. It s also notable that, prior to filming the movie, Affleck himself endured some very public battles with addiction, and as a result, he brings a personal gravity to his role that leaps off the screen. Audiences will no doubt come to The Way Back with certain expectations, simply based on the fact that it s a story about a troubled new coach learning to bond with his team, but if this doesn t hit all of those familiar beats in a predictable way, it still offers a worthwhile character study that might surprise a few moviegoers with its depth.

The two actors – who last shared the screen in Michael Mann s Heat – have been getting plenty of Oscar buzz for the movie in which Pacino plays infamous Teamster leader Jimmy Hoffa and De Niro plays his right-hand man, Frank The Irishman Sheeran. If either wins big this awards season, they will be adding to an already heaving trophy shelf. But who between Pacino and De Niro is the ultimate king of the big screen? 9.48.3 7月喜迎(Photo by Marvel Studios)The Falcon and the Winter Soldier ran its last episode last week, but some questions about its finale and themes still linger: from production realities of a series made during the pandemic to whether or not John Walker (Wyatt Russell) is a hero.Series director Kari Skogland took a few minutes this week to talk with Rotten Tomatoes about the show and some of its facets, including the thinking behind Sam s gesture for Isaiah Bradley (Carl Lumbly) and the visual tricks used to make Walker s disposition more ambiguous. She also addressed a rumor about a deleted storyline and outlined some of the ways the COVID-19 pandemic had an impact on completing the show. How the Pandemic Complicated Filming of The Falcon and The Winter Soldier(Photo by Marvel Studios)In the run up to the finale, word began to spread that the COVID-19 pandemic had done more than just delay production of the series. According to the reports, a plot involving Karli (Erin Kellyman) and the Flag Smashers was dropped during the months of delays. Skogland denied such a storyline ever existed.“There was no virus storyline,” she said. “The pandemic did not change our storyline, because we knew what we were shooting before[hand]. We were always telling the story we were telling.”Production began in October 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia, continuing apace through the year. Filming moved to the Czech Republic during spring 2020, where it was shut down a few weeks short of completion: “We had shot 75 percent of it when we got shut down,” Skogland said. The production shutdown did impact the series in other ways, though; for one, post-production began earlier than expected, leading to some of the program’s extra polish, according to Skogland.

To movies that they’ve grown up with, movies they’ve spent dozens of holiday seasons sprawled out in front of, digesting Thanksgiving and Christmas and other holiday dinners. But there are a number of holiday-themed and holiday-set movies released in the last 20 years that are just as worthy of your Yuletide viewing as those tried-and-true favorites. These are the world’s modern Christmas classics – or should-be-classics – and we think that this year, once that bell rings and the angel gets its wings for the umpteenth time in your household, you should try something Fresh for your festive viewing. We compiled this list of modern Christmas classics using a very simple set of criteria: the movies had to be about Christmas or set firmly during the holiday; they had to have been released after the year 2000; and they had to have a Fresh score with a minimum of 20 reviews. Some are titles you will no doubt be familiar with, movies from the earlier years of the 21st Century that have already assumed the “classic” label in the ensuing years – we’re looking at you Elf and the ever-divisive Love Actually. Others are Certified Fresh gems that have gone totally under-appreciated in our opinions. (Why Arthur Christmas, at 92% on the Tomatometer, isn’t every kid’s go-to holiday flick is beyond us.) Others still are off-beat foreign gems, like the scary, weird, and wonderful Finnish killer Santa movie, Rare Exports, or the anime  Tokyo Godfathers. And with our most recent update, we ve added Klaus, Jingle Jangle, and the 2018 Grinch, which is just barely Fresh. Because we can t make green meanie too happy, right? If you’re looking for something different this season, slip a sack-full of these charming/hilarious/weird/heartwarming/scary flicks into your holiday rotation.Best Christmas Movies | Worst Christmas MoviesBest and Worst Christmas Horror | Best Foreign Christmas MoviesRotten Christmas Movies We Love | Modern Christmas Classics
This Week s Ketchup brings you another ten headlines from the world of film development news, covering such titles for this Friday the 13th as the horror reboots of Dracula and and Scream, as well as Disney s live-action remake of Peter Pan Wendy. This WEEK S TOP STORYBLUMHOUSE EYEING DRACULA AND FRANKENSTEIN REBOOTS AFTER THE INVISIBLE MAN (Photo by Jasin Boland/©Universal Pictures)Much has been written about how the relative disappointment of 2017 s The Mummy led to Universal scrapping its plans for a Dark Universe featuring their classic Universal monsters. Since then, Universal has changed course with those characters and franchises, including Paul Feig s Dark Army project, a possible Monster Mash musical, and the recent reboot of The Invisible Man (Certified Fresh at 91%), starring Elisabeth Moss. The box office opening of million for the latter (from a budget of just million) is seen as a relative success in a period in which other movies like The Call of the Wild and Pixar s Onward had openings that were perceived as more disappointing. The Invisible Man was produced by Blumhouse Productions (Get Out, The Purge, Insidious, Sinister), and it s sounding like Universal wants Blumhouse to revive their other classic Universal monsters. Blumhouse and Univeral are now teaming up on a Dracula reboot (which is bad news for Dracula Untold star Luke Evans) to be directed by Karyn Kusama (Destroyer, The Invitation). (Incidentally, the Hollywood Reporter ran a piece this week about how Dracula can be rebooted for the 2020s.) Producer Jason Blum has also been talking up his interest in rebooting Frankenstein recently, though nothing official has been reported on that film yet. In related news, Aquaman director James Wan is now developing a non-Blumhouse project inspired by Universal s monster legacy (however one wants to interpret that).Other Top Headlines1. THE TEAM BEHIND READY OR NOT ARE READY TO SCREAM (Photo by Fox Searchlight Pictures)From 2003 to 2010, Michael Bay s Platinum Dunes production company began a series of horror movie reboots that would eventually include some of the most iconic franchises, like Friday the 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Amityville Horror, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. That eventually led to other horror franchises being rebooted (like Halloween, Child s Play, and this year s Candyman), but one that has quietly still been waiting its turn is Scream, the 1996 movie that arguably first suc

Updating their long-term release schedule on Tuesday, The Walt Disney Company revealed one key detail about the future of Star Wars: a trio of films will arrive across the decade. The release dates slot untitled Star Wars films for the Christmases of 2022, 2024 and 2026. And unlike their ambitious plan to release a new Star Wars film every year in the wake of Star Wars: The Force Awakens success, a bi-annual cycle appears to be the amount of Star Wars moviegoers will accept. But at the same time, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker claims to be the end of the Skywalker Saga began in 1977’s Star Wars. If that is the case, what will the 2020 story cycle be and who are the creative participants behind it? We have some guesses gleaned together from various announcements. We also have one or two ideas we have to call “wishful thinking.” But let’s take a look at the places Star Wars could go in the 2020s.Rian Johnson Makes His Trilogy(Photo by David James/ © Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/Lucasfilm Ltd. /Courtesy Everett Collection)Shortly after the departure of The Rise of Skywalker’s original director, Colin Trevorrow, many speculated Star Wars: The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson could pick up the slack and make Episode IX. He quickly dispelled this notion, stating he had no interest in making that film. Looking back on it now, we bet this was because he was thinking about the trilogy of films he and Lucasfilm were already discussing.  In November 2017, the plan was formally announced. Johnson would write and direct the first film and then hand off the heavy-lifting to a new group. The initial press release also stated the trilogy will “introduce new characters from a corner of the galaxy that Star Wars lore has never before explored.” That could mean anything from a story about droid manufacturing to a nature documentary about Porgs.Very few details about his plans have emerged in the time since. The only significant rumor to surface centered on whether or not it is still happening at all. In February, Johnson took to Twitter ( I m still working on the trilogy ) to dispel the rumor, dashing the hopes of Last Jedi haters everywhere.Nonetheless, the lack of any other updates indicates the trilogy may be further off in the distance than anyone wants to admit. Johnson is still hard at work on Knives Out, his Daniel Craig-starring Last Jedi follow-up set for a November 27th release. Presumably he will return to the galaxy far, far away after that.David Benioff and D.B. Weiss Launch Their Own Fleet(Photo by Kevin Winter/Getty Images)First announced in February of last year, a series of Star Wars films from Game of Thrones executive producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss is on the way. It is unclear if they will claim the 2020s release dates, but after completing Thrones, Star Wars is their next job. The series will be separate from both the Skywalker Saga and the Johnson Trilogy. In fact Lucasfilm avoids the word “trilogy” when discussing their plans, indicating Benioff and Weiss will supervise more than three films.Rumors also indicate their story will take viewers back to an ancient time in the Old Republic before the Sith clouded the judgment of the Jedi and the government was stable. Sure, it sounds tranquil and dull, but even the most peaceful eras of the Republic still featured wars, unrest with certain planets, and ambitious Darths hoping to seize control of everything. Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) was not the first Sith Lord to scheme on that scale – just the most successful. And while it might seem a more primitive version of the Star Wars galaxy would be a good fit for the Game of Thrones boys, it should be noted the universe of Star Wars is oddly stagnant in terms of technology and fashions. Maybe “DnD” as some GoT fans call them will shake up that perception and redefine the look and feel of the Old Republic era.The rumors also suggest the first film in their series will be ready to shoot soon, making this the most likely the project to claim the 2022 release date.A Mixture of Those TwoConsidering Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy’s comments about “the next ten years of Star Wars,” it is possible the Johnson and DnD plans will run concurrently with the first Benioff/Weiss film claiming the 2022 slot, and Johnson s debuting in 2024. The two story cycles would then leap-frog the bi-annual release dates until 2032 when Johnson’s trilogy would presumably end. Such a schedule would prevent the audience fatigue which plagued Solo: A Star Wars Story from seeping in, but will viewers want to wait four years between chapters?Continuing the Story in Episode X and Beyond(Photo by Bantam Books)Yes, we’ve been told repeatedly that The Rise of Skywalker will be the end of the saga pictures. But we were also told Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was the final production, making Return of the Jedi the final episode of the story. The precise placement of “the end” has been a topic of debate since creator George Lucas first began discussing his plans for the series in the late 1970s. The 9-episode cycle was the most talked about version of the idea – at least until Lucas started making the Prequels and said the Saga would only be 6 episodes – but some of the earliest interviews indicated a 12-episode plan. That bare shred of an idea could justify a continuation of the mainline series. And, to be honest, it’s not hard to imagine another trilogy set 30 some years after The Rise of Skywalker. It is a time with no Jedi and no Sith. An age of smaller republics (and empires) coexisting in an uneasy detente while Force-sensitive people continue to help where they can. Some may form tight-knit, Jedi-like cells while others operate independently. But with the old hierarchies gone, people throughout the galaxy try to live their lives without the worry of another pan-galactic war. Throw into this scenario a new menace and you have something familiar and new because all of the old terminology and symbols are gone. While we’re at it, make the new menace something not in tune with the Force at all. Sure, we’re reaching back to the role Admiral Thrawn had in Timothy Zahn’s 1990s novel cycle, but there’s a reason that character remains an enduring figure. While unlikely, Disney and Lucasfilm can always find a way to do this. And if not in the 2020s, then in the fullness of time.Adapting Knights of the Old Republic(Photo by LucasArts)File this one under wishful thinking, but we would love to see a proper film adaptation of Bioware’s Knights of the Old Republic video game series. With strong characters like Darth Revan, Bastila Shan, Canderous Ordo, and G0-T0 – to say nothing of the beloved assassin droid HK-47 – there’s plenty to work with. And, as it happens, a KOTOR film trilogy could do something the video games never did: end. A potential KOTOR III teased the return of Revan as he faced off against “The True Sith.” But as Bioware became more invested in its home-grown series Mass Effect and Dragon Age, Revan’s fate became material for the company’s Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO, a different style of game which could never replace a real KOTOR III.And as all of the Star Wars video games sit outside of official Lucasfilm continuity, the characters and situations could be molded to fit the needs of the right filmmakers.Considering Benioff and Weiss’s familiarity with adapting established material, this could be the backbone of their planned film series. But then considering how the concluding chapters of Game of Thrones are being received, maybe its best they avoid this story for another tale of the Old Republic.Keeping The Anthology Series Alive(Photo by 2002 Lucasfilm Ltd., courtesy Everett Collection)Plans for A Star Wars Story films based around Boba Fett and Obi-Wan Kenobi seemingly evaporated after Solo underperformed. But Lucasfilm never throws an idea away and it is always possible for the Star Wars anthology format to return in some form. Even before the concept had a name and the company joined the Disney stable, there were plans to develop a feature film centered on Yoda and whatever incident left Palpatine and Darth Maul looking for revenge in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. These sorts of side stories are clearly of on-going interest to Lucasfilm. If paced properly – say every two years – films centering on established characters or briefly mentioned incidents in mainline Star Wars films could find an audience. And who wouldn’t want to see Ewan McGregor back in his Jedi robes and having a solo adventure sometime before he rescues Luke (Mark Hamill) from Tusken Raiders? At the same time, the response of Solo is also a key indication the fans want these stories to remain in the purview of comics, novels and animated series. It is a fair compromise, indicating the return of A Star Wars Story is the least likely way Disney will use its Star Wars release dates through the next decade.

亚博网站官网 Marvel Studios released a second full trailer for April’s Avengers: Endgame on Thursday. And now that Captain Marvel is out in theaters, it finally establishes Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) will be part of the roster as they take the fight back to Thanos (Josh Brolin). But as with so much of the Endgame publicity, it plays coy with the actual plot. For instance: we assume the mission takes them to that garden planet Thanos relaxes on at the end of Avengers: Infinity War. It is a solid guess based on shots in previous trailers and the later part of Marvel Comics’ The Infinity Gauntlet, but we don’t really know that it is part of “whatever it takes” to win the day. Some believe the Avengers will go elsewhere and even elsewhen to undo the Mad Titan s brutal Snap.Nonetheless, the trailer offers a few more clues to the film’s overall shape. Here are five of the things we gleaned from it.Tony Pulls Off One More Surprise(Photo by Marvel Studios)Despite both long-form trailers opening with Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) recording a final account to Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow), Tony can be spotted in the group shot toward the end – which features the team in Avengers-branded uniforms reported to allow them access to the Quantum Realm. Since that slow-motion group walk, featured in some form during every Endgame trailer (more on this later), takes place at the Avengers HQ, this means Tony makes it back to Earth before the final act of the film. We’re going to assume the Benatar (the Guardians of the Galaxy s ship) makes its way to Earth in that scene from the “Big Game Ad” in which Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), and James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) look up at something mysterious. At the time, we thought Carol might be assisting the ship in landing, but eagle-eyed fans online noticed a mysterious gap in the composition between Rhodey and Bruce which could be Carol erased from the ad to conceal her presence in the film. With that in mind, we’re guessing either Thor (Chris Hemsworth) found them or Tony really did pull off one more surprise.Of course, there’s always the possibility the message will be delivered to Pepper after the Avengers complete their endgame. But we really don’t want to think about that yet.The Past Matters(Photo by Marvel Studios)The trailer opens with a very pointed reminder that Tony built the first Iron Man suit from scraps in a cave. It moves on to remind the audience of early moments from Captain America: The First Avenger and Thor. Rumors suggest time travel will help the Avengers defeat Thanos, so these shots may support that plot thread. Alternatively, the trailer could be setting up a big sacrifice as the three original Avengers with solo movies face down their endgame. It is no secret that Downey, Hemsworth, and Evans plan to walk away from the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the film makes its worldwide debut, but will their time within the studio s overarching story really end with their characters boldly dying to save the universe? That’s kind of epic, but we want more Thor after Thor: Ragnarok reset his tone.Scott’s Escape From The Quantum Realm May Be Ill-Timed(Photo by Marvel Studios)One thing we still don’t know about the film is just how much time has passed since the final moments of Infinity War and Endgame. According to some reports, it could be years. We’ve always subscribed to the thought that Endgame takes place a year later – more or less in real time with our world. There’s a nice extra-cinematic symmetry to that. But no matter how long the interval, it is clear Scott Lang’s (Paul Rudd) escape from the Quantum Realm will see him facing down the grim new reality without the Pym clan to explain it. Y know, since they all turned to ash in the Snap. The one featured shot of him in the new trailer sees him reacting to missing posters in the wake of the Snap; which means he will no doubt determine his family s survival before making his way to Avengers HQ. Some believe his ability to access the Quantum Realm will offer the Avengers a time travel portal, but in this scene, it is clear Scott has no ability to muck with time and must endure the pain of the Snap. But considering our next topic, Scott may join the Avengers sooner rather than later.Black Widow’s Going Back To Red(Photo by Marvel Studios)With all all the talk about time travel and the gap between the two films, it’s time to talk about Natasha Romanoff’s hair. That might seem silly, but the new trailer features Nat with a variety of styles, lengths and colors. And if anything marks the progression of time within the film, it is the return of the classic Black Widow look. But tracking that progression is not easy within the context of the second trailer. Going from Black Widow’s last appearance in it – when Thor meets Carol – her hair is short and blond as seen in Infinity War. In her first appearance in the trailer, in which she reconnects with Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) it seems to be longer, but still blond. Then, when Cap invokes the “not us” phrase from the Big Game ad, it’s clear she’s letting the blond grow out. When we see her again, suited up aboard a ship we presume is the Benatar, there are only a few streaks of blond remaining in her braided hair. During the hero walk, her hair is also predominate red, but we also see her with blond hair in the firing range sequence from the earlier trailers. Although, it does appear to be the length from the Clint Barton scene. Clearly, the film covers more time than we anticipated. Perhaps it covers the entire gap year and possibly more. It may also track the changes to the timeline should time travel come into play.Going back to Scott for a second, we noticed Nat’s hair is short in the Scott Lang stinger from the first trailer. If we assume her hair will be longer and red by the time the Avengers are ready for Thanos, Scott’s Quantum Realm exile following the Ant-Man and the Wasp stinger scene may not be that long at all. Perhaps his apparent mastery of the Quantum Realm will be a key part of the plan.Marvel went out of its way to hide Nat’s changing hairstyles until this trailer – we even suspect her key moment with Cap toward the end of the first trailer was altered to maintain her Infinity War hairstyle so giving it away now is rather telling. The Hero Walk Evolved(Photo by Marvel Studios)Also, while double-checking Black Widow’s appearances in the previous trailer and the Big Game ad, we noticed the hero walk featured in the new trailer and the TV ad actually appears in the first trailer as a completely empty Avengers HQ hangar bay. The addition of people across the first trailer, the Big Game Ad, and the second trailer feels as purposeful as revealing Nat’s hair color in the new trailer. The empty shot also occurs once more in this new preview. But in lieu of cutting to the profile shot of the group in the Big Game Ad, we see close-ups of the assembled Avengers in their coordinated uniforms. Cap leads the charge with Tony, Scott, Nebula (Karen Gillan), and Nat closely behind. Clint can also be seen alongside Rhodey; whose War Marchine armor has been painted to match the white-grey-red Avengers color scheme. In the Big Game version, the silhouettes include Cap, Scott, Nat (with the shorter hairstyle), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Clint, Rhodey, and one completely mysterious shadow we’re going to assume is either Carol or Thor. Even though this scene keeps getting altered with each trailer, we’re going to assume this is nearly the full complement of heroes heading out into space to fight Thanos.(Photo by Marvel Studios)Of course, that leaves a few questions. For one, Bruce is notably absent from every version of the hero walk. Where is he? He could always be the mysterious shadow behind Rhodey. It is also possible Bruce’s arc needs to be obscured for reasons we will discover next month. Perhaps the heroes missing from the most recent version of the slo-mo walk are part of a frontal assault with a heavy-hitter team like Thor, Carol, and the Hulk, this is a possibility while the others go back in time to set up the tools necessary to undo the Snap.We also wonder why the team lacks for Wakandan representation. That nation definitely needs to repay Thanos for his “kindness,” and at least one capable Wakandan fighter survived the Snap. There’s still the question of Shuri’s (Letita Wright) survival following the Snap. She’s seen among the missing in a blink-and-you’ll-miss it moment from the first trailer. But considering all the alterations we discovered by just examining Black Widow’s hair, it is possible her very brief inclusion in the first trailer is there to obscure her Endgame situation; whether it be ascending to the throne or replacing Tony as the team’s tech wiz. And even if she did end up turning to dust, we hope the Avengers will extend an invitation to Okoye (Danai Gurira) to join them in the final conflict. Her face is on the new poster, after all.Avengers: Endgame opens everywhere on April 26.Like this? Subscribe to our newsletter and get more features, news, and guides in your inbox every week.

Fans starving zombie-like for a second helping of Zombieland will get their fill this week when the 10-years-in-the-making sequel to the 2009 hit finally lands in theaters. The original Zombieland cast – Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, Jesse Eisenberg, and Abigail Breslin – all return, along with original director Ruben Fleischer. And for Double Tap, they re joined by newcomers Rosario Dawson and Zoey Duetch. With the movie lurching into theaters on Friday, Rotten Tomatoes correspondent Mark Ellis sat down with the cast to talk about the new film and their own tips for surviving a zombie apocalypse. It turns out the best places to hide might be your local foodcourt – or Woody Harrelson s house.

ay be difficult for Sam, it will be a nightmare for Bucky — he’s been legally dead since the 1940s!Also, he’s still a wanted criminal for his activities as the mind-controlled Winter Soldier. Though one imagines the Avengers may have smoothed over some of that following the Endgame battle. If that turns out to be the case, both Sam and Bucky still face acclimating to a world which moved on without them. It’s something Spider-Man: Far From Home glossed over, but feels like prime material for a limited-run television series. It might also be the place to establish what the Avengers look like post-Endgame. Well, provided they exist in any form. Are Sam and Bucky involved in their activities or are they, as it always seems, on their own? What Is The Falcon and the Winter Soldier About?(Photo by Zade Rosenthal/©Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures/courtesy Everett Collection)Beyond the aspects of the post-Endgame MCU we’d like to see clarified, the show will revolve around Sam s decision to take over the as Captain America from Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). His feelings on the matter are complicated, naturally enough, and that character-driven choice is the sort of thing Feige wants the Marvel Studios television shows to focus on. Disney+ is going to give us this opportunity to tell even deeper stories on characters you already know and love … in a new type of cinematic way that we haven’t done before, Feige said at CCXP19.Making things tougher for Sam, the U.S. government appears to be less than thrilled with Steve’s choice to give him the vibranium shield. In lieu of Sam, John Walker (Wyatt Russell) appears to be their preferred choice. The character is based on the Marvel Comics antihero and sometimes-villain U.S. Agent. Initially presented as a foe for Captain America, Walker took over the heroic identity for a time and served on superhero teams like the Great Lakes Avengers as U.S. Agent. His complicated past leads us to suspect his MCU counterpart will have an equally difficult path, which will no doubt lead him into fighting Sam before they potentially team up to fight a more shadowy enemy. Also, because of Walker’s affiliations in the comics, we expect The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will also address the state of the Sokovia Accords and whether or not costume heroes have to register with the government.Of course, it still leaves us with the central question: Will Sam become Captain America? He did for a time in the pages of Marvel Comics, so it is a possibility. But it is also possible the question will remain unresolved by the end of the series.Who Else Stars in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?(Photo by Disney+)Outside of the title characters and Russell as Walker, the series will feature the return of Captain America film series characters Sharon Carter (Emily VanCamp) and Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl, pictured). As revealed back at SDCC 2019 – and shown extensively in the 2021 Super Bowl trailer – Zemo will wear the comic book character’s famed purple mask. But other details of his appearance and current circumstances are unclear. Is he the real mastermind behind the government’s skepticism toward Sam? Will he try to activate Bucky to break him out of jail? Did he get snapped or did he live those five years? The material Marvel and Disney+ have unveiled to date leaves that last question very much up in the air, but it is possible his new fashion sense comes from years in isolation. He does announce in the latest trailer that he has some unfinished business. And considering his rather complicated lineage in the comics, it is possible the series may devote some time to him discovering a forgotten claim to a Sokovian barony. Although, the MCU Zemo strikes us as a “smash the aristocracy” type and any sort of noble lineage may be his secret shame.VanCamp’s return as Sharon Carter may represent the closest tie the overarching Phase 4 story. On the run since Captain America: Civil War (although she was counted among the lost during the five-year gap), it is possible she found her way back to S.H.I.E.L.D. – an organization whose status definitely needs to be clarified in the MCU with Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. ending this summer – or contacted Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and hooked up with his secret space force. As we remain hopeful S.W.O.R.D. (an extra-planetary defense force dedicated to keeping Earth safe from aliens) will be introduced in Phase 4, her story could be an opportunity to establish it and its role. Beyond those things, though, the series also presents the opportunity for Sharon to actually have a story all her own.Other actors joining the MCU with the series include Adepero Oduye, Desmond Chiam, Miki Ishikawa, Noah Mills, and Carl Lumbly is still-classified roles; although, knowing Marvel, we will probably know their character names by the release of Black Widow later this April.Who Is Writing and Directing The Falcon and the Winter Soldier?(Photo by Alberto E. Rodriguez/Getty Images for Disney)Orchestrating Sam and Bucky’s next journey is Malcolm Spellman, a veteran of the television series Empire. He also, curiously enough, wrote The Sopranos: Road to Respect video game. He serves as showrunner and head writer, while Kari Skogland takes on the task of directing all six episodes. With a resume which includes episodes of Family Law, Boardwalk Empire, Vikings, The Handmaid’s Tale, and The Punisher, she seems well-suited to the task. John Wick writer Derek Kolstad is also a member of the writing team.Filming began in October 2019 in Atlanta, home of various Marvel productions like the more recent Avengers films and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The series planned to move to Arecibo, Puerto Rico, in January, but earthquakes delayed the scheduled shooting. Currently, the production is shooting material in Prague. How Else Does The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Connect to the MCU?(Photo by Marvel Studios)Beyond the obvious ties to various MCU films by way of casting and plot, The Falcon and the Winter Solider may offer other connections to projects or added greater depth to the ongoing metanarrative. In the Marvel Comics universe, Taskmaster trained John Walker, making him a formidable opponent to anyone he crossed. The character is set to make his debut in Black Widow and could, theoretically, be partly responsible for Walker’s training in the show. Of course, as the film is set shortly after Civil War, Taskmaster would have to survive the plot to be around and train U.S. Agent. Granted, Walker could’ve been in training prior to Black Widow as well.As it happens, Walker often worked for the Commission on Superhuman Activities, a presidential taskforce aimed at supervising American superheroes, in the comics. They have a far reach and could potentially debut in the series as a new pressure for Sam and Bucky, but also for film heroes like Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), Spider-Man (Tom Holland), and Thor (Chris Hemsworth). And since Walker’s arrival into the MCU creates so many possibilities, could a Great Lakes Avengers series be far behind? The often comical adventures of, to be frank, second-string heroes would be an interesting place for Marvel to go with television. In fact, it would allow them to build an ongoing series with a new set of characters while continuing to make limited-run programs with the more expensive film stars. The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is available on Disney+ from March 19, 2021.
